Asbury Woods is such a gem! This review is only for the hike, but I will definitely come back to check out the nature center and everything else Asbury Woods has to offer. TL;DR - Free parking, Greenway Trail is the longest, is not very strenuous (just a few hills) is very shaded (unless you continue into the meadows, which is beautiful, you should go!), there are boardwalks on the trail which is pretty nice so your shoes don't get as muddy, you can customize trail distance if you don't want to do the whole Greenway (you can take a map at the entrance), Walnut Creek is beautiful and peaceful, and it's dog and family friendly. I saw lots of families on the trail with young kids. So for the details, my bf and I were looking for a place to hike and we tend to go for 2+ mi with some shade along the trail and some body of water, big or small. I browsed the web for info on Asbury Woods trails and saw that they were all short but the pictures seemed really nice and it was within 10 minutes of where I live so I figured I'd give it a shot. While driving here, I noticed there are 2 lots to park, one by the park, and the other is across the street by the main entrance by the nature center. So that's where I parked. We took one of their trail maps by the entrance and decided to go on the Greenway Trail, which we were pleasantly surprised to find is 2.2 mi and crosses Walnut Creek. Along the trail, we realize it is pretty shaded. Checks off all that I look for in a hike! This trail is beautiful!! Once you get to Walnut Creek, you'll realize it is such a gem! There weren't too many people on the trail for a Saturday around noon. The trail takes you across a bridge and into a meadow. Once we got to the meadow, I realize there are multiple places to enter the Woods, but I guess Google Maps took me to the main entrance. (The other way is the barn entrance.) Have fun!! read more

The nature trails of these woods were surprisingly well groomed considering what time of year it was. We were immediately greeted by a friendly worker who directed us to a map on the wall and helped to explain what would be our best course of action given our time frame. Of course the second we got out there /someone/ got distracted by the beauty of nature and we ended up creating a new path, and not getting lost, thanks to the post markers along the way. The modified Winter Wonderland event is open from December 4-31 (except Dec 24&25)! This event offers visitors a stroll through the boardwalk (~1/3 mile) and is lit with holiday lights and decor! On-site donations are also accepted! Overall a family friendly event & masks were worn by visitors & volunteers. read more

I loved the walk. It was flat in the beginning then steep for a short time and then it was a little rugged again. I loved it! Just try to stick to the trails because once you past the devils back bone, it gets pretty confusing. So I would just stick to the trail. And if you go through the water trail it's even better!! Just wear your old sneakers because they're going to get wet!! The entire walk was just beautiful, I'm definitely going again!! read more

My children absolutely loved the Child vs. Wild summer camp. It was a great place to relax and go on a walk. Asbury Woods annual Wine and Dine was the best event of the year. The animal exhibit was a great hit for my 1 year old daughter. My kids loved Ms. Jess's art camp. The trails are great. There are so many different ways to go. The compass trails are so much fun. Geocaching is fun. We found so much. Asbury Woods is my #1 place to walk the dogs, take the kids on walks, kids camp, animal exhibit, and fun events. This is a great nature center...it is fully staffed and pretty extensive. It has an indoor educational area with some exhibits, and a gift shop (which is not bad, for its small size, I might add). But what I like most about this area is the extensive natural area outside the center. There are boardwalks that take you through wet areas, and then paths in the woods behind these areas. Great for birdwatching! Across the main road, there are even larger sections of woods that you can go walking in. I found the staff here very friendly and helpful too. They are very knowledgeable about the area and were very willing to help and give us info! I recommend stopping by this place if you like nature and are in the area! read more

This is a nice place to take the kids for their special events. Their Halloween event really engaged my 4 and 6 year old with facts about nocturnal animals that they could relate to- without being scary. AW is also nice to visit when you have a limited amount of time for an adventure. Boardwalks through the woods are always fun... Right? read more

Asbury is a great place you should visit. Alone, or with your family and friends. They offer great walking trails, interesting classes and events, a gift shop, and people that are happy to help, answer questions, and educate. So what are you waiting for? I totally recommend going to Asbury Woods, taking a walk and visiting with nature. I live in Seattle, but when I come back to Erie, Asbury is one of the places that I go. Besides A walk in a picnic lunch, we went to an evening concert one night which was a lot of fun as well. read more
