Turbo Tax had given me the runaround and passed me from one tax preparer to the next for a month if not longer, only to finally inform me that they could not prepare my returns. They said it was because I would not pass their quality process check or something to that effect, due to my books not being in the best order. Fortunately, they filed an extension on my behalf. I took that opportunity to seek help elsewhere. That's where Lesley came in. She's all about business, thorough, communicative, expressing exactly what she needed, via email and phone conversation when necessary. I initially thought Saxon's Bookkeeping was a startup business because her profile bio and makeup lacked what I normally see in business profiles from which I acquired services. But what she said in her bio drew my attention. She referenced how other CPAs charge an arm and a leg for their services and she was absolutely right. Her rates, however, were very reasonable, an obvious a selling point. Initially, I'd just planned to have her clean up my books. But when she offered to do my taxes as well and at such a reasonable rate, I couldn't refuse. To make a long story short, she cleaned up my books for my business in which I partner with other members. She cleaned up my books for my sole owned business. And she prepared the tax returns for both, as well, as for me personally. This was all at a rate much less than her competitors, including Turbo Tax. Now, I'm not the most savvy when it comes to this kind of thing. So, if at some point down the road I get audited, this review will obviously change. But for now, as far as I can tell, excellent work! I highly recommend Saxon's Bookkeeping for your financial organizational needs. Thanks Lesley!

When we finally decided to pull the plug, we found out that they signed us up for quickbooks and we are now being forced to pay a bill for 2 years we had tried to sign up for but were never given the information needed for. I don't think it would be wise for him to accept new clients. Several disappointing things happened in this experience. It started off with my dropping off my tax documents in February. His front office staff contacted me soon after to tell me that only $2,500 of deductions would be applied for the 2022 instead of $98,000 because they didn't understand how long term capital gains taxes work! This issue was fixed but it stressed me out thinking it wasn't going to be right because I had to explain it to them. Jay left off thousands of dollars in deductions on charitable donations which he had the receipts for and which were included in an orderly fashion. It was fixed when I pointed it out but I FOUND the issues myself. Why am I paying an accountant to make HUGE financial mistakes? The difference in my tax bill had I not found the mistakes was roughly $1500 that I would owe (between federal and state!) That's significant!!!! Several times in the process, I'd ask a question and he'd meet with me a..."this form would need to be filled out. Do you want me to fill it out?" Well...I want you to fill out whatever necessary forms need to be filled out! Considering this is your job, you should know the proper forms and make it happen. Never have I ever had to tell my accountant what form I want them to fill out. With my previous accountant, he would call me to go over things to make sure we were on the same page and to clear up any issues. I only changed from him because 1) he was scared of Covid and didn't want to meet in person and 2) he had made a few errors. But goodness, at least he was quick to call me, apologize, and immediately fix the issue. Well, I sent Jay an email asking if we could go over it since he wasn't there when I picked it up the first time. To which he responded "he's just too busy this time of year to meet with people." Yet, he wasn't too busy to send me a $650 invoice for an incorrect tax job. $50 of this invoice was for a meet & greet where he basically sold himself to me on how aggressive he is and how he will ask all of the right questions, etc. Mind you during the actual process, I had to ask ALL of the questions, find the mistakes, and basically do the work. It was an expensive fee for very little communication (emails could go a week without being answered), very few of my questions being answered, errors galore, and a 2 month long tax process. In the end, he did make the changes but it was not an efficient process. We had to pick up our documents twice since they don't do anything electronically either. It was the most expensive accountant bill that I ever received, with the least amount of work done. And, I received my corrected taxes back 2 days before the deadline. Talk about stressful. I would have been better off using Turbo Tax and doing it myself. This was an expensive lesson learned!

I'm always super nervous about messing up anything related to taxes (I don't even do my own!) so when I prepare our quarterly forms, they are really great about reviewing and responding with any changes, usually on the same business day. OEF recently became the nonprofit sponsor of a regional STEM alliance and WMET has been very helpful in helping me set up the entries needed in Quickbooks. Accounting firms are, from my research, not the most affordable, but this is one expense our organization cannot bargain shop for because STEM education is too important to our future. I don't want to be responsible for not fulfilling our students' and teachers' needs because I flubbed a return or incorrectly entered an expenditure or didn't follow certain accounting guidelines. Accounting isn't my thing but thankfully, it is their thing at WMET!

Then I received an email asking to schedule an appointment for an extension and for financial advising. I requested an appointment and she responded they are not taking new clients. People have the right to ask questions and understand pricing for a service. I went to another company that was able to tell me exactly how much for 2 w2s over the phone and provides a military discount for my friends on base. They are absolutely amazing! If you need recommendations, please let me know. Avoid this place if you have questions because his wife will be annoyed and then in a polite way tell you that you are too poor for their services.
