They certainly aren't used to drop ins at the 5:30am class so I felt like I surprised her a little when I showed up. There isn't a lot of info on their website about drop ins, so I just reached out via email ahead of time to let them know I was coming. They have the coolest t-shirts from american apparel too! I feel like I would drop in again just to get another shirt! The programming was awesome and I got a great workout in! They have fantastic equipment and it's all in wonderful condition. You can tell they take pride in their gym. There is plenty of parking in their lot too, which is always a concern in the urban areas. If you're in the Tacoma area I definitely suggest dropping in at Tacoma Strength!

"what's Crossfit?" I definitely didn't know what I was signing up for when my school [University of…read moreWashington Tacoma] was having a sign-up for something called Cross Fit on their Facebook page. Just in the midst, I have been debating over where to re-join at a gym to start working out [hopefully commit....] it was only a $5 fee for UWT students to attend an orientation and to go in twice a week for I think it was a month or so. I went to the orientation, no one but myself showed up.. kind of embarrassing. When I first stepped in, I felt like Plankton from Spongebob... I was scrawny compared to these extreme work-out people... even the ladies were muscled-up. Since I was by myself, it was more one on one orientation which gave me more space to ask questions and such. I think the person's name was Morgan? Maybe.. I don't remember~ he took me around and showed me the different exercises Crossfit involves. I was really excited to try this out. After the orientation it was a couple weeks after that I attended my first actual session. WOW... I am exercise-impaired, literally... I cannot properly work out for some odd reason despite being "out of shape". It was super embarrassing that I was so slow and had to use a pipe compared to others who had pretty heavy weights attached to their bars. I don't know if Crossfit is exactly what I am looking for when it comes to working-out but definitely I am proud of myself for giving it a go. But just a bit too intense for my level. The trainers and people at the session were super friendly and understanding about my lack of skills and was patient with me as I struggled embarrassingly... back and forth across the gym... with the weight sled thing dragging behind me (:

I have never felt like my effort was meet with results before coming here. I am 37 years old, and this year is the first time I've understood my body's needs and how to give it the best possible circumstances for health and wellness. I use Jeff's virtual Team Training, Serena's Superhero You and nutritional coaching. I'm forty weeks in to recording of nutrition and I don't ever want to stop habits, nor my relationship with Grit. The virtual training is more than just watching a workout. You can workout live with the coaches... and Jeff is ridiculously good and concise with remembering/recommending substitute movements for your limitations or injuries, and very resourceful with helping you utilize the objects you already have in your home. I have many many many public Facebook posts about this place if you're still on the fence about investing in yourself. Oh - and the generous outpouring of support and communication through several channels (fb,insta, email etc) is 24/7. They have really really found a way to personalize your health, while still keeping you part of the group.

Am I working this muscle group enough? Super studios makes sure you leave there definitely feeling like every muscle group has been worked! The classes are small, and the instructors are very nice! So I walked past this place for a good three months before I finally decided to go in and see what…read moreit was. I danced for 15 years and so I knew that Barre stood for a ballet barre, so I assumed it had to be some type of exercise studio. All of the ladies that work here are super friendly. They have a lot of really great packages and programs. Student discounts, Corporate discounts (if you can get five people to sign up), and New Client Memberships. I decided to try it out and purchased a drop in class which was $18.00. Man! This is not for the faint of heart. I had to modify most of the exercises, and had to take multiple breaks the first couple of weeks. I have always been a pretty active person. I played basketball in college (DII NCAA), and danced. I had been doing CrossFit for 10 months, but had taken a break from it due to multiple surgeries. I also didn't like how bulky I got doing CrossFit or that my WOD only took 20 minutes, and I felt like I hadn't worked out long enough. Barre is completely different. It is very challenging! This is not some Zumba class at your local Y. It is a full hour of circuit style barre/yoga/pilates style exercises. You will get your cardio! Don't worry! You will not stop moving for an entire hour. I love that I get a full body workout and my cardio in an hour. The same workout would take 2 hours of weights and then a two mile run just to get the same feeling. As a mother, I don't have three hours a day to spend at the gym. Barre provides variety to avoid muscle memory, and every class is different. I have been taking all of the 12 o'clock classes during my lunch hour (with the exception of Tuesdays). There are different instructors on different days, but even if you get the same person leading the class the workout is ALWAYS different. I usually have class with Trish or Elizabeth's, and I have done one 4:30 class with Dena. Love all of their styles. They are great. Elizabeth and Trish give modifications and really guide you to challenge yourself, and not give up. I literally feel addicted. I am coming 5 times a week, and I can tell on the days when I don't go that I missed a workout. This isn't a fad workout program, and there are a bunch out there. It is hard work, but if you do it, you wil get the results you want and better! I knew the first time I walked into class and saw a small group of women that looked like dancers that I was in the right place. Not because I look like a dancer, but because I want to look like one! lol I already feel leaner and more flexible. Just try a drop in class, you will be hoooked! It is great, tons of fun, and you will be back.
