This review is from a Guardian's perspective. We have been a Guardian for the past 5 years and have to say what a wonderful experience it has been raising our girl Sydney's puppies. Working with Christina has been so easy as she makes it "super simple" if you follow the guide that she provides. Once the puppies are delivered (by Christina) and you get them home a couple days later, the experience is wonderful and you have clear guidelines on what to do when. The biggest issue is not wanting to keep a puppy with each litter. We failed at that goal the 1st litter and have one of Sydneys puppies now. I would highly recommend being a guardian, but make sure you have kids/grandkids around so the pups get lots of socialization with people. read more

After seeing the mix of reviews, I thought I would give my own positive experience. We picked up our puppy in September 2020. We were last on the list so we were not able to choose, just took the last puppy of the litter. My experience with communication and pickup was good - Christina appeared very busy (peak covid time so lots of people buying puppies) but she was still communicative and helpful during the process. Her house was very clean and we never felt rushed during pickup. Our dog is now 3 and while we have had some of the same health problems as I see in other reviews (food sensitivities and seasonal allergies), multiple vets have told us these are very normal for labradoodles, as both poodles and labs are very prone to allergies. Our dog is more on the sensitive and anxious side, and while I wish he was more outgoing, I know all dogs have different personalities. He is also the most loyal and loving dog I have ever known. He sleeps at my feet while I work, and wants to sit on my lap all the time. People on the street often comment on how cute and calm he is, and we are overall very happy with him and our experience with ASD. read more

5/1/18 We picked up our Savannah the weekend before Thanksgiving 2017 so she is already 7 months old. I know I drove Christina nuts with all my texts and emailed questions. I was a nervous wreck on choosing the right puppy. Our last 3 dogs lived to be 15 years old and we hadn't gotten a puppy in forever. I should have known... YOU WERE RIGHT!!!! I needed to calm dawn and enjoy the process. We got the perfect dog for our family. She sleeps between my husband & I has always slept all night. Our 4 grandsons (the youngest is just a year old) can get wild around her and she is so sweet with them. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She travels well in our RV and loves to explore with us. She can go out front with us without a leash and never runs away. Did I mention she doesn't beg either? She sits at my feet while I work at the desk and if I go in another room & shut the door she lays at the door. I don't write reviews, but after discovering this page on Yelp about Christina, I am compelled to tell our story and offer a more-balanced perspective on ASD. My partner and I adopted a puppy from Christina in May 2017. We we were referred to Christina by a friend of ours who adopted a dog from her about five-years-ago. We had boarded our friend's dog, Penny, several times and fell in love with her. She is a healthy, beautiful, intelligent, sweet, loving and playful girl. After hearing only the nicest things about Christina from our friend, we decided that we had to have a Penny of our own. We originally reached out to Christina in the fall of 2016 with many questions, and she was immediately responsive, professional, friendly and informative. It took us several weeks to decide on a litter, throughout which time, Christina was remarkably patient and helpful. We finally decided on a litter, but then at the last moment, changed our minds and postponed the adoption. When we told Christina, we were brought to tears of gratitude by her response. She said that postponing was not a problem, as she only wanted us to be happy with our decision and confident that the litter and timing of our choice were right. Several months later, we adopted and brought home Norman. During the first few months of having Norman, we emailed Christina several times with questions. Each time, she replied within a day either by email or phone, with a tone that was both patient and understanding, and with an answer that was as helpful as she could possibly provide. Norman is now nine months old. He is -- and has always been -- a healthy, happy, sweet, smart, loyal, playful, outgoing yet calm, and very handsome puppy. He loves all dogs and people, and we could not possibly ask for a better, more well-balanced puppy. He is simply perfect in every way, and we are eternally grateful to Christina. I am truely happy that so many reviews have found the companion they wanted with ASD doodles. Although, that was not our experience. I hope our experience will give others some information we wish we would have had. To give some background we are an experienced dog family, we have/have had 5 dogs from different breeders and this was by far the most negative experience we have had. We have thought about this review for many months and do not take it lightly. Because of dismissed concerns and the strongly worded contract, we are stuck in our situation. 1. The breeding: It is done with some regard to behaviors/temperament but seems more about the coloring/looks . Because we know a "guardian family" who is close to some of her helpers we learned that some guardian dogs are chosen for their coloring/markings and bred even though they have temperamental issues (submissive urinating, territorial, social anxiety, etc.) In all fairness the breeder may not even know that some of these issues exist, as sometimes she is only with the guardian dog for a couple of weeks if that and the families are afraid that they will loose their pet or have to pay for it if it is no longer in the breeding program. Our dog has exhibited all of these behaviors and even as a puppy drew blood when someone tried reaching for her when she was in an anxious state. Also Guardian dogs with ASD Companion Labradoodles (some of which we know personally) are typically removed from the puppies once they are weaned around 6 or so weeks, which is much too early according to our vet, because some puppies really need that extra time with their mother to prevent long term social/behavioral issues. 2. The selection process: We communicated that we would like to train our puppy to be a service dog and were assured that ALL puppies are bred to be excellent choices (should have been a red flag, as many puppies even specifically bred puppies are not able to be trained service animals). There was an average sized litter but two were held to be breeder puppies so we only had two puppies to choose from. We chose a puppy the was social enough to come to us, but calm and fell asleep in our lap. Little did we know that the puppy had been worn out from playing with the many children in the home all morning and had been given antibiotics (preemptively) which could have made it lethargic. We were only made aware of this as we were heading out the door. 3. The marketing: The "ASD" labels used for these dogs are false advertising. After putting our dog through significant training we were made aware of the fact that very few labradoodles "make the cut" when it comes to service dogs. Their energy, and playful nature make it difficult for them to focus enough to do the job of a service dog. We feel like the past years and so much money (the puppy, vet visits, training, etc.) have been spent on our family pet (who does not fit well with our family) when we needed to spend it on a service dog for our child with ASD. 4. The policies: There is a ridiculous 72 hour policy. How can a person even know if a dog is incompatible with their family while they are adjusting to their new environment. How could we have known that its nervous peeing wasn't just puppy accidents? How could we have known that it's anxiety and hiding wasn't just because it was in a new unfamiliar place? How could we have known that its high energy wasn't just part of being a puppy? We are calm, quiet people which is why we choose the puppy we did. And our child who is on the Autism spectrum needed a dog to help them regulate and calm themselves when they are over stimulated, not make the problem worse. We did puppy classes and obedience training (dog does well 1/1 with treats, but quickly gets distracted with other people and dogs around), walks 2-3 times per day and lots of stimulation through the day (stay at home parent and homeschooled kids), and after a consultation/evaluation with a specialized trainer (works with one of the leading service dog training companies in the whole US) who specifically trains service dogs for children we were given the news that our dog did not come close to qualifying for service dog standards. This was a huge disappointment, because they wouldn't even evaluate our dog until it was a year old, we tried again at 2 and the results were nearly just as bad. If you are wanting a family pet (with the possibility of being stuck with whichever puppy is left after all others are chosen) and don't mind the possibility of time consuming and costly training down/out behavior issues, then by all means choose ASD Companion Doodles, but if you are looking for a trained companion to work with individuals with ASD (as they advertise), go somewhere else. read more

We're thrilled with the adorable labradoodle, now named Rosie, we purchased from Christina at ASD. The process was smooth and professional. Even more importantly our beautiful puppy came to us at just 7.5 weeks clearly well taken care of and mostly house trained! Rosie is smart, soft, beautiful, easy to train (after two weeks she already knows sit, stay, and come), and a cuddly companion we wanted for our kids. Some of this is probably just great luck (what puppy only has 2 accidents the first couple weeks home ?!?) but I think a lot of it is good breeding too. read more

We have two amazing dogs from Christina and have worked closely with her over the past 8 years. Our sweet girls (one 8 and one 18 months) have had no health issues, are perfectly polite, and gorgeous dogs. Christina was very professional and responsive to us. We went to visit her home before considering getting a puppy and she introduced us to the two dogs in her home, explained her Gaurdian family program, and let us even meet her family! She was responsive via text, email, and cell whenever I had questions or concerns. We even decided to be a Gaurdian Family and it has been an amazing experience. Breeder did NOT let us meet any other puppies. We just be ASSIGNED to the one on her waiting list. There is NO chance to meet Puppy's mom and Dad either. I asked her whether we could have a chance to watch videos about how parents behaved, she said" I have SO MANY parents in different home, I cannot show you". After reading these reviews, I cannot help but offer mine. My experience has been painfully similar to the two already posted, and I would not recommend this breeder to anyone. I am an experienced dog owner over the past 40 plus years. Have owned more than 8 golden retrievers, delivered puppies, selected homes for them, and deeply appreciate the time and commitment it takes to provide emotionally and physically healthy dogs. This is NOT the case with ASD. The only question I forgot to ask prior to putting down my deposit, and then paying the non-refundable balance prior to pick up was "what kind of problems have you had with this breed?", knowing full well that all breeds can have their breed specific issues. Very indignant at my question, Christine advised that of course she has had a few problems, " after all when you have had bred seven or eight hundred puppies, things sometimes come up." 700 to 800 puppies???!!! If I could have backed out I would have. This is a high class puppy mill, with little if any care given to temperament, structure, or overall health issues. I love my little girl, and will of course never give her up, but I have had two years of problems with indigestion, vomiting, diarrhea, submissive peeing, extreme timidity and shyness. While I at first contacted Christine about these issues, I experienced the same demeaning and dismissive attitude and recognized she would be of zero help. While I don't care if she meets any show confirmation standards, I do recognize she has an odd structure-she is quite bow legged in front, has hardly any neck, and quite a small head for her body. She is now two, and while we have adjusted our lives to accommodate her sometimes precarious health issues, but I would strongly recommend potential buyers to look elsewhere. It is unfortunate the demand for these dogs is so high, and therefore the money so tempting that less than scrupulous breeders flourish. Find a breeder who owns at least one if not both of the parents, ask how frequently they breed, dial into behavior and health issues, and let them know you expect a dog of the highest emotional and physical characteristics. Get references, speak with them personally, and read all reviews. Good luck! read more

We heard of Christina through a relative who used her for their dog, so we thought we would give it a shot. All seemed to start well. Her home is extremely clean and tidy and you would never guess that she is a dog breeder! Our dog was adorable and we were so ready to have her as a part of our family! We couldn't afford to buy a puppy, but Christina has a program where people can be guardians of her female dogs that she will eventually breed. You house, feed, love, etc. the dog. When dog is ready to breed, you let Christina have her back. She delivers the puppies, and you get your dog back until the next breeding cycle. Once Christina is finished breeding the dog (3-4 times), the dog can be fixed and is "ours". We thought this would be a great situation. We went to pick up our dog in June 2016- she was 3 months old. All was well after we got home, but she was super timid, and we thought she would grow out of it. We enrolled her in dog training classes, socialized her with other dogs, etc. She is now a year old and still very timid, doesn't retain most of her learnings at "doggy school", and even our trainers are surprised at how scared she is of the smallest of movements and noises. She is what the trainers call a "submissive pee-er" (look it up- a real bummer). This wouldn't be such an issue, except for the fact that Christina will not work with you in an effective manner to resolve the issue. She is very accusatory of our home situation, made personal insults to me as a mother, the list goes on and on. I would not recommend her to anyone as a breeder. She has horrible interpersonal skills and cannot wrap her head around effective problem solving. read more

It is hard to rate the person who brought a dog into your life. A dog that you love so much and have expanded so much resources to take care of. The reason of this post is to give customers, new and old, a forum to express their review of ASD Companion Doodles, the breeder from whom I purchased my little boy. I did not have that luxury so I figured this could help people make a more informed decision We bought our dog from Christina about two years ago. As her website states, you fill out an application, put the deposit down, and when the baby arrives and is about to be ready to go home, she will call you per your number on the list to allow you to choose from the remaining litter. I happened to be the first one, so I chose the one that I connected with the most. It's kind of hard to do so from a picture, but I just knew in my heart that this little boy was meant to be home with me. I do not live near Sacramento so I paid extra for the little guy to be flown to me. Everything was fine and we went to the airport to pickup the little guy. Just like any other puppy, it took time for him to adjust. We took him to socialization classes, got him a trainer, and being that Labradoodles are generally smart, he picked up potty training very quickly. The reason why I gave three stars is because of the health issues my dog was experiencing. Although the vet cannot conclude for sure, he said that what my dog has can be genetic. More specifically, at around the 7-8 months mark, my dog started to vomit and have diarrhea continuously. At first we thought it was stress, food he was not familiar with, a bug he picked up on the streets. But it kept going for couple days so we brought him immediately to the vet. We ran everything under the sun (blood tests, stool sample testing, ultrasounds, x-rays, etc), but we could not find the root. We literally did everything that was medically viable, except for open exploratory surgery, which we did not want to put our dog through. The vet strongly suspects our dog to have a severe case of IBS and was switched to an ultra hydrolized diet (Ultamino). It was only after months and months of trial and error that we could get our dog's symptoms under control. Even under Ultamino, our dog was experiencing allergy problems, so we recently decided to put him on a raw diet. It's too early to tell whether or not it'll work, but we remain hopeful. Throughout this ordeal, I emailed Christina a few times and she was very dismissive of the situation. Her basic conclusion was that: "every dog gets sick at one point". Even though she was informed of how severe my dog's IBS was, she offered little sympathy. perhaps it was because I inquired about the health of my dog's parents to see if they, too, had IBS issues. I was left with little support and very underwhelmed. If you look at her website, she is expecting NINE litters, which, although not the same mothers, seems like a lot. I am told the dogs/puppies are all raised with a family, so I do NOT think ASD is a puppy mill (I would never get a dog from one). I am not disgruntled, I am neither a happy nor a discontent customer. I think perhaps spending thousands on a dog hoping that it'll be happy and healthy quickly went out the window. However, at the end of the day, we are thankful to have such a loving dog that we will literally spare no expense to make him feel better. read more

When I started my search for a puppy after my 14 year old lab passed away, I began to ask friends for a referral. We wanted a hypoallergenic dog, that was easily trainable, not too hyper, playful, and a good size for traveling with, not like we were asking a lot ;) We vacationed with a family who had an ASD dog, he was great with kids, friendly, and I was surprised that my normally highly allergic daughter suffered no symptoms. I began following Christina on her website and social media. I was concerned about working with a reputable breeder. I researched health issues of this breed and was concerned about stomach problems, so far my puppy is healthy. Also my friends ASD dog who is now a year old has had no health problems. I did not believe Australian Labradoodles do not shed.. well I can attest after wearing black all day and carrying my white/brown parti dog, THEY DO NOT shed! POSTIVES: -from the beginning Christina was friendly, open, responsive and very detailed in her communications. You could tell she has dealt with all types of dog parents and she handles clients with grace and a dose of healthy understanding -I was able to go sit in her home, see how the puppies interacted. One of her daughters came home from school and addressed the puppy by name and cuddled her, so I knew they had relationships with the dogs and social interaction -She had extensive and professional records of the dogs breeding and line and health history, vet visits, vaccines.. it was all very well organized -her home is clean and well cared for, as were the puppies -she was very good at helping me decide on the puppy selection process. I came in thinking I wanted a female dog with specific markings, and she helped me understand personality and personal connection with each dog. -my dog is sweet, relaxed, playful, and loves to learn. She has had no health problems and I get TONS of compliments on her teddy bear face. CONS: -she had a waitlist, and depending on what pick of litter you wish to be, your will need to be patient.. I think I waited 3 months to be 4th pick. -I live in the Bay Area and had to drive to Lincoln (2 hrs), still easier than flying. read more
