I had a very disappointing experience with Ash Automotive and would not recommend them based on the customer service we received. My son called ahead and was specifically advised to bring the vehicle on Thursday before the end of the day for drop-off. We made arrangements accordingly and arrived as instructed. However, when we got there, no one was present at the office initially. After waiting, someone finally arrived, but instead of assisting us professionally, we were greeted rudely and asked, "Why did you come at this time?" We calmly explained that we came based on the instructions provided to us over the phone, yet the individual continued with an unprofessional attitude and ultimately refused to accept the vehicle for drop-off. We understand businesses can get busy and scheduling issues can happen, but respectful communication and professionalism should always be maintained, especially when customers are following the guidance given by the business itself. When I moved to the Webster/Clear Lake area 16 years ago, I left the only mechanic I would trust with my cars behind... I tried another well-known mechanic/tow shop in the area and kept having to spend thousands of dollars and more over and over again when they should have just told me it was unfixable. At church, a fellow congregant told me about Mr. Ash and I won't let anyone touch our cars ever again (or at least as long as we live in this neck of the woods). We've had times when we picked up the car and something wasn't right, but as soon as we brought it to Mr. Ash's attention, he would fix it personally. (You could hear him fussing at whoever messed it up, but he fixed it and it stayed fixed.) Sure there is turnover. There is turnover at every mechanic shop. There are unsavory characters who "pre-schedule" the work for you but sabotaging things here and there. But not at Ash. We've been involved in accidents (who hasn't in Houston?) and a couple of times I was sure the car was finished, but he and his team and associates reconstructed a purse from the sow's ear. If it is isn't fixable, or would cost more than the car was worth, he tells you up front. He does not play the games other people play If it is going to cost more than he initially says, THEY ALWAYS CALL FIRST! Ash is the only place to get your car fixed here. And he will be the only one to fix my car here. Period. And don't be fooled by the mechanic who has taken up residence in Ash's OLD location next door to his new shop (of about 6-7 years)...because they are not related and you won't get the same results. This guy doesn't respect his customers from my experience. Don't know if all these other reviewers are paid off or but I got a bad vibe from my recent first visit here. First off, there's 0 precautions being taken for the ongoing pandemic , my job really isn't any more glorious then that of a mechanics - probably less so honestly , but we have to take them at our job , doesn't seem like the guy running this place wants to put any effort in in that regard . Second , asked a few questions regarding the repairwork and he wasn't all that transparent , and there definitely seems like there's some shady upselling going on. I know times are rough , so maybe they're desperate and engaging in some shadier business tactics now , but the utter lack of professionalism makes me want to go elsewhere next time. My wife took her Honda to the dealer to check on a noise in the under carriage. After a test drive the Service Writer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $2,500 to $4,000. Being skeptical she took it to the place where her son Brad gets his cars serviced; Ash Automotive. After checking it over Ash called and stated that the catalytic converter cover was loose; it had a broken mounting bolt. $150 later all was well. That was 75,000 miles ago and the transmission is doing just fine; and the replacement for the loose plate is doing well too. Many kudos to you Ash. read more

I took my Mini Cooper to Ash at the suggestion of a good friend. My poor Mini had suffered the "death rattle" and engine damage from the defective timing chain tensioner in the engine. Ash and his crew found a used engine and replaced the dead one with the new one to give my Mini new life. I was pleased with their work for the engine replacement and especially the fact that they took care of the little adjustments needed to fine tune things after the initial repair job. I was looking for a Clear Lake area mechanic and Christine K's review pushed me toward this place. I never would have taken my old truck here because the building looks too new and prefab like the Brake Check next to it. But inside is the very honest mechanic/owner Mr. Ash. The first time I dropped in they were booked and I made an appointment for the next morning. The next day I was describing the horrible shrill squeal my truck was making to the counter guy. Mr. Ash got up from his desk and said "lets take a look". I thought it was a belt component. Mr. Ash immediately found it to be the throttle gasket (under the air filter). So it was a whistle, not a squeal after all and $85 and 1 hour later I was on my way a very happy customer. It was nice to see the master detective at work. But this place is very busy. Well this used to be my mechanic. They came highly recommended to me and to date seemed OK. Recently I had two issues with my car, one very minor and one very major. I was expecting to spend a few hundred. I was mentally prepared. Until they quoted me $1,500 dollars. So, on my way to pick up my car from Ashes, unfixed, I call the dealership. They quote me $600.00 for parts and labor over the phone. That's a $900 difference for anyone taking notes. I dropped my car off at Ash after I discovered that the car would only start at night. Ash quickly diagnosed the problem and gave me a very reasonable quote. However, the next morning the car refused to start again. Ash towed my car FOR FREE to the shop and attempted to solve the mystery. They spent the next few days running exhaustive tests on the vehicle, but were unable to figure it out. I was not charged for anything. I finally took my car to the dealership and they were able to fix it, finding the problem to not be what Ash originally diagnosed. Learning this, I called Ash and prepared for a aggravating battle trying to get even a partial refund. I could not have been more surprised - as soon as I mentioned that the dealership had actually figured out what was wrong, Mr. Ash immediately said I would receive a FULL REFUND before I could even ask for it. tl;dr - Initial cost was fully refunded after repeated attempts to fix my car proved unsuccessful. I have taken my car here twice. The first time my car wouldn't start so I had it towed in. After a few days of them not calling me about it, I was getting annoyed and decided to call them. They informed me that they couldn't find anything wrong with it and it started every time they tried. I suspect that the fuel pump (which I have had problems with before) wasn't working properly and the bumpy ride on the flatbed jostled it enough for it to start working again. I was impressed because they could have told me anything and charged me for it, but I left just paying the tow. The second time I took it in my car wasn't starting again and the engine wouldn't turn over at all. The tow truck driver and myself both tried to jump it to no effect. I got the call the next day that the battery just needed to be replaced. They also informed me that my brakes needed replacing, which I had them do. The reason for the four star rating is that I thought the bill for the battery and brake replacement was a little high, but I will be returning here if I ever need work done again. read more

We've been taking our cars there for at least 15 years and never had occasion to question their work. They earned my loyalty the very first time I contacted them. The engine manifold of my Corolla was cracked and my previous mechanic was offering me used part vs new part options for fixing it, all of which were scary and expensive. When I called for a second opinion, Ash's wife, Kay, looked up my model year while I was on the phone, told me it was covered in a recall, and sent me to the dealership to get it fixed for free. I was basically a bird's nest on the ground, and the fact that they passed up the opportunity to take advantage was a big deal. Ash runs one of the better mechanics in the Clear Lake Area. He's honest and he does a good job, IF - it's a car he's really familiar with or you already know specifically what's wrong. I've found them severely lacking on taking the time to diagnose problems and finding real solutions. I had a few electrical issues with my Mercedes and although he didn't charge me (he's a really fair guy) he also didn't really take the time to find the issue. I got it fixed at a place further in town. I like Ash, and they did some good work on a few of my other cars, but only in cases where we new the exact problem and had a plan of action. read more

This is the worst mechanic I have ever encountered. He is a liar and a thief. His staff members are incompetent, and that's putting it nicely. I already knew what was wrong with my car and I instructed them what to do. They replaced the axel on the drivers side, instead of the passengers side. When I informed him of the mistake, he raised his voice at me and said he would not fix it. I am going to report this business to the Better Business Bureau and I am also considering legal action. This guy is HONEST, HONEST, HONEST!!! We gave our Cadillac Escalade ESV for repairs because the check engine light turned on. Ash asked us to drop off the car 4 days later as that was the earliest appointment. He checked it and told us the gas cap was not on properly so it was showing "small emissions leak" on the computer. I asked what the charge would be and was told "NONE." I was shocked as the dealer told us it would cost $141 just to tell us what was wrong. And the last time the dealer billed us around $400 for this same issue. Also the dealer gave us an appointment a week later. We will definitely be taking all our cars to Ash.
