I had just finished a cross stitch piece and I needed it framed on an abbreviated time line so I could give it to the recipient who lives out of town and I happen to be meeting up with in another week. We called around and everyone said "two to three weeks" It looks like we were shipping and I get really nervous about shipping handcrafted stuff since USPS lost a beaded shawl I had made for a friend. Then we called Ashburn Art and Framing and yeah, it's usually two weeks. But the owner, Nick, took the next step and asked why we needed it so fast. We told him. "Can you get here tonight?" He was going on vacation the next week, so Nick finished it in two days so that I could give my friend her present. It's stunningly beautiful work and Nick has a perfect eye for this stuff. He was also careful of needlework, which can be more temperamental than framing a photo. Any and every time I need something framed, I am going here. And I'm giving Nick all the time he wants. Frame shops are a dying breed. Like much in retailing, many have been put out of business by the "Big Box" stores like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. But fortunately, Ashburn Art & Framing is doing a brisk business by competing on a plane that the Big Boxes can't match, and that's with quality and customer service. My father-in-law passed away earlier this year. He was a longtime parish priest, who had received the "Bishop's Cross" from the presiding bishop, in recognition of the multiple churches he planted during his career. I wanted to have the cross framed, along with his photo and the bishop's letter, to display at the funeral. The problem was that most frame jobs take about two weeks (and this shop had a sign to that effect posted.) I came in on a Monday night, waited my turn, and explained my predicament to the owner, who happened to be on duty that evening. I asked him if there would be any way he could do the job by Friday, so that I could have the piece in time for the Saturday funeral. He didn't hesitate and simply said, "I am so sorry for your loss. It would be an honor." We spent about 20 minutes as he patiently suggested various framing and matting options. (He had a wide variety of choices in stock, so we wouldn't have to wait for materials to be ordered.) We settled on what I wanted, and the price was very reasonable. He didn't even charge me a rush fee. That Wednesday, the owner called and said, "I have your piece finished. You said 'Friday,' but I knew this was important and I wanted you to see it and have time for me to make any changes if it wasn't perfect. Is there any way you could come over tonight?" I went over right away and the piece was indeed perfect. My wife was ecstatic and it received several compliments at the reception. As I wrote above, there are not a lot of framing shops around any more. He had a huge area of finished work waiting to be picked up, and a sizable stack of project orders in the queue, so it wasn't like he had nothing better to do. The next time I need framing done, you can bet I will go straight to Ashburn Art & Framing....and I will be thrilled to wait the full two-weeks. read more

Firstly, if you have never had something professionally framed, do yourself a favor and experience it. You can't imagine the difference a really good mat and frame make, and there is just no comparison between a professional job and something you buy off of Amazon or at Walmart. That being said, this place is among the best of the best. The staff is great, and they have the ability to take my basic ideas and make them spectacular. I've framed everything from martial arts gear to diplomas to magazines to military challenge coins - every single thing comes out in breathtaking fashion, and I have had multiple compliments and comments on each and every piece. I can't say enough about how awesome this company is!! I took my 11x14 print to Micheals to get matted and they were going to charge me $70 for a single basic mat!!!!! I decided to try a local business instead and took it here and they did a double mat WITH mounting saved me a TON of money- not to mention when I picked it up a few days later it looked AMAZING!!!
