Absolutely deplorable service! I was quoted prices that were inflated by $2-300 from the price actually tagged on the machine! Salesperson refused to demonstrate the sewing function of the machine because it was set up for embroidery. The absolutely worst sales service I have ever had. Please avoid this store. I have been coming to Ashby Sewing Machine for years. I even took some of their classes which I really enjoyed. I purchased my Brother Luminaire 2 from them. They service my machine and do a fantastic job. I know they have new owners and I have met both the husband and wife. They are expanding some material in the store. I always go there for my embroidery thread. They have Floriani which I love. They have the whole collection of their thread. It would be nice if they started to carry Aurfil it would completed my selection of threads that I need. Also Superior thread for my longarm. It is a great store, I go there for all of my Brothers needs but they do carry other machine. I did order my sewing table from them, smooth transaction, they recommend a moving company who picked up and delivered to my house. Great customer service! The value I paid from my machine and sewing desk were competitive prices. Great value for my bucks. Remember nothing is cheap nowadays if you want good quality! read more

I previously posted a glowing review of this store and planned to use them for any needs going forward. However after how I was spoken to today I will no longer be using them and I need people to be aware of the type of people who work here and how they choose to speak to people I have a janome 6650 machine and my old bobbin went out and I needed a new one. The original machine came sealed from the manufacturer with a yellow dot bobbin case. I tried to find some to get here in time but all I could find was a red dot off brand. I decided to try it anyways but it still did not seem to work. I called Ashby to ask if they had a janome yellow dot in stock and the lady on the phone was very kind. She mentioned that usually yellow is for embroidery and the red dot is usually the standard. The guy who was helping her was so incredibly rude, asking her to ask me if it was new or used, scoffing at me, and acting like I had no idea what I was talking about. I was going to let it settle but I decided to ask if I should try the red dot Janome brand, and that perhaps mine did not work because it was not a Janome product. This rude man once again scoffed and said "well yeah" obviously. As if I can't hear him next to this lady on the phone. I told him that this was not acceptable, that I can hear you, and that I decided to purchase an after market product simply because it could be quickly gotten to me. I told them the comment was not necessary. I am SO INCREDIBLY livid. How dare you treat customers this way? People come to you to ask for assistance and you mock them? What is wrong with you? Grow up, you are all far too old to be acting like children. Whoever the lady was on the phone was very pleasant and she apologized but I hope whoever the man was sees this and changed his attitude accordingly. I'm sure he won't care a single iota, he doesn't seem to be the type to care about anything anyone says, but if I can stop someone from going here and being spoken down to then I will. I have visited Ashby's Sewing on four different occasions due to repair work needed to my Janome sewing machine and each time the customer service I received was horrible. When it comes to patronizing establishments that provide me with personal care or service of my personal items' how I am approached, addressed and treated upon stepping across the business's threshold is imperative. At Ashby's never was I greeted by staff who were visibly present at each of my visits. On one of the visits my husband accompanied me to view the sewing machine tables (as a possible gift to me). He browsed and looked at the tables for approximately 15-mins, yet he was never greeted or approached by an Ashby's associate. Needless to say, no sale there. The lack of customer service is not only a trait of the front-line staff but their service technician also. I am sure he is skilled in his craft; however, I experienced a condescending, overbearing, know-it-all attitude. I felt he was unwilling to listen to my problem. I was continuously cut off when attempting to describe the issue. He immediately told me what Janome America (headquarters) would do and not do without consulting them (which I later discovered was contradictory to what I was told to me by Janome America). I was told that because my machine was not purchased from Ashby's there was nothing he could do (so then what is the purpose of authorized Janome dealers). I was even told that he had not had any communication with Janome America which is inconsistent to what Janome America told me (I reached out to Janome America on several occasions, and they informed that they had provided the Ashby's service technician with instructions regarding my machine for repair). I really expect much more from a small business that offers a specialized service. With very few authorized dealers in the area the options are few for service but one thing for sure, I will not be back to Ashby's. read more

First time visiting this store with my mother in law looking to see how to take advantage of the sewing classes that they advertise. UNFORTUNATELY, with the number of people in the establishment talking (4/5)NOT ONE PERSON acknowledged that we had entered the store nor even spoke. We continued to walk around the store looking and once again NO ONE even gave common courtesy to ask us if we needed any help or anything. I have never been so disrespected in any store that I have visited in the Kennesaw area since I moved here a year ago. Needless to say, they missed out on the potential revenue that we could have provided to this store as we were very interested in taking a sewing class and purchasing the necessary items including a machine. Be mindful before visiting, you might not get any customer service. read more

Ashby Sewing Machine - First and last time visiting! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Kennesaw, Georgia

First off, I must say this was one of the most well organized stores I've been to and does not give off any inclination of a place "where sewing machines go to die" as said by another patron. Upon entry, you walk in to a showroom of a plethora of nicely displayed sewing machines and accessories and both the owner and woman warmly greets you. I came in because I was in the market for a new machine for sewing class as I am considering on taking sewing on as a hobby this new year. Both owner and woman were very knowledgeable and educated me on the different types of machines available and asked the right questions to help select the perfect machine for me. I didn't walk out with a machine as I had a lot to consider, however I will be back in the future when I'm ready for any of my sewing needs. read more

My sewing machine light blinked on and off and the machine would not power up when the light went out intermittently. I called and Bart immediately diagnosed the problem.... He suggested checking the power plug to be sure it was plugged in. OH MY! It was disconnected! He was quick to give advice over the phone and saved me a trip and a service charge!! Very thankful to find someone who repairs sewing machines if I need repairs in the future! read more

Rude people. Went to have a sewing machine repaired. Didn't notice the sign on the door saying that they are not taking machines. I was struggling with the machine and a baby in a stroller. The employee was right at the front door and didn't offer any help. She could have stuck her head out the door and mentioned that they were not taking machines, could have offered to help hold the door. They don't have any recommendations for repair until they decide to start taking machines again, didn't offer to take my name and number to let me know when they would take machines again. Nothing. This isn't the first time in this shop, I go in a few times a year. Pretty much always the same. Well, I guess I know where my next machine will NOT be purchased. read more

These folks aren't overwhelmingly talkative, but they do a good job at machine repair! I've taken my machines to them for years with great results. Recently I took a machine in that had been literally gathering dust for years at a friends' house. I was somewhat disappointed that when I got it back it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned on the outside. It seems like that would be sensible since if I can't see that you cleaned it on the inside it should sparkle on the outside to reassure me that it has been taken care of. Still, I'm glad they are here because sewing machines are becoming like dinosaurs and soon I'm sure we won't know where to take ours for service because all of our clothes will be 3D printed or something. My advice to these people: chat and be a little friendlier and clean the whole machine. read more

This place was awesome! They have machines and fabric and notions - a sewist's paradise. I brought in a 2-year-old Brother sewing machine that was locked up. The man who does the repairs (I think is also the owner) was very thorough explaining to me what had happened to my machine. He showed me a "skeleton" of the inside of a machine like mine and pointed out all the parts. Very nice and very informative. While I was there I looked at new machines. A wonderful lady - Paige - showed me the machines I was interested in and explained the differences and the prices. I bought a new machine! Great customer service. I left my extra long sewing scissors in perfect condition at Ashby's to be sharpened. I paid when I picked them up and then noticed the tip was broken off on one end. I mentioned it and showed it to the technician and he said I don't remember if they were broken when you left them. I assured him they were not broken when I left them!!!! All they said was sorry! Horrible customer service!! They must have dropped them for the tip to break that much!! Now my beautiful long scissors are basically useless as I use the tip to get under the fabric smoothly. My wife and I have spent thousands of dollars in Ashby's on 2 embroidery machines. We have been a loyal customers for 5 years. We've been happy with the quality of the machines we've bought there, but their customer service is definitely lacking. The staff is unfriendly, and unapproachable, and make you feel like you are doing them a favor shopping there. They make it clear upfront that if you have not purchased your machine from them, servicing will take twice as long. We took our first machine in for servicing and ended up trading that machine in at Ashby's for a brand new machine. A second time we took another machine in to drop it off for a repair and was told we HAD to have an appointment to just drop it off. Ultimately, we took that machine to be serviced at another store, which was more than happy to take the machine in without an appointment and serviced it just as quickly as if the machine had been purchased there. This week, we took another machine in for its first servicing, which was suppose to be free, or at least that's what they tell you up front. I completely understand that they had to replace and charge for a part, which was what I was told by the service person, but we were charged $137 for the servicing. My wife paid her money and left. I called and spoke to several people at Ashby's and was even hung up on by one of them. They could care less about their regular customers who spend a lot of money in their store. I told both people I spoke to that we won't spend another dime in their store and will share with everyone we know how business at Ashby's is handled. read more

Must state up front that i'm an infrequent shopper at this store. I went there today for the 20% discount on "all you can fit in your Ashby bag" per the email i had received. I found the items i wanted to purchase. I was told at the counter that i couldn't use the 20% discount as the sale didn't start until monday - this was saturday. I showed her (owner's wife) the email on my phone, she argued with me about the date, actually commented that "he messed that up" and then she disappeared into another room to talk with the owner. I waited...and waited...and waited...finally told another clerk that it was taking much to long for them to simply resolve this misunderstanding and left. A simple "we made a mistake with the email, but you're here with your bag, please go ahead and make your purchases" should have been offered. What this vendor doesn't seem to understand is that people in the area of sewing and quilting tend to spend money...a lot of money...and we have lots of friends who spend money. He'll never see another penny of mine and i won't have any problem telling my friends about this shabby treatment. As Clark Howard says, "talk with your wallet!" read more
