I ordered several CGC graded comics from Doug Cegelis, aka HotShotcomics, aka. Asheville Comics and after 2 YEARS OF WAITING, still nothing! Always, "I have no control over CGC and when they arrive, I will let you know". "Rest assured we've got you in the system, we're just not really able to predict when things will return right now because CGC is randomly sending us both comics that they just received, and comics that have been there for nearly 8 months. I know it's frustrating but we have not forgotten about you. Thanks for hanging in there!" That was February of last year. Since then he is no longer responding to any inquiries about the comics... Having visited comic book shops in some of the largest cities in the country. Additionally, I have attended several comic book conventions. I'm telling you I know what a good merchant and product selection look like and whats to be expected from doing business with these brave and enterprising individuals. Having recently come by a vacation residence in the area, I have spent many enjoyable hours driving (responsibly) around this new-to-me-area. One day, on one of my journeys, I found Asheville Comics! Excitedly I parked and ran inside. I was immediately impressed with the size and presentation of the store. It's clean and well lit. The staff is friendly and sufficiently knowledgeable. Asheville Comics has a strong selection of action figures and toys and collectibles. Not to mention, comic books! If they don't have something you're looking for, I THINK they'll see about getting it for you. Any dissatisfaction I feel with this establishment is certainly dissatisfaction within myself with regard to the pitiable state of writing found in the comic books currently on display and on sale in this fantastic store. This guy was extremely rude to my 9 year old daughter today when she was trying to pick up and fix Pokémon cards that had fallen a few times -- which happened because of their poor placement at the edge of a shallow shelf. He should've been happy we spend money there, and that she was trying to help do the right thing, but instead he "barked" at her because she annoyed him. Bought 2 pre-orders from their former eBay account "HotShotComics" in May of 2021. Never received them. Never responded to emails. When I mentioned this on their Facebook page, I got blocked. Ok so I bought a book through these guys EBay shop in January. First off I requested an update on the delivery date since eBay only protects a buyer from 30 days after expected delivery date. I was only asking for a new delivery date. You would think they would understand that as a buyer I am only trying to protect me since they could have kept the item after the 30 days and EBAY wouldn't have been able to help. I am not saying they would have done this though. I am really disappointed in the customer service. So instead of me getting an updated delivery date I get a refund with no explanation or chance to even remove inquiry. Avoid buying from their eBay store! I'm sure going into the store might have a better result. lies about me threatening them. I said I was going to post a review. That isn't a threat. I paid 2100 dollars for a book and I was simple covering myself as a buyer. I don't care how many sales they have. Again. Buyers beware! I explained what I was doing and you guys did nothing but give short crap responses. If anyone wants I will post all of our convo to show I never made a threat. I said because of the crap customer service I would be leaving a review. I don't know of anyone who buys a 2000 dollar comic and wouldn't want to ensure they were covered by eBay money back. They ripped me off. I paid for multiple items online. They charged me individual shipping per item. They combined items into consolidated shipments and kept the shipping cost difference. When I questioned them, they told me I was stupid, making myself look bad and annoying them by even contacting them. Steal from me and not expect to hear from me? Takes a special mind to come up with that logic. Beyond that shipments were poorly packaged and items arrived with damages, insulting your victims takes an incredible low moral character. The most unprofessional, rude and nasty owner I've ever seen from a comic book shop! I pre-ordered a comic which he sent to CGC. After 6 months and CGC still holding the book due to a backlog, I asked for an update and if the book still couldn't be provided, I'd have to get my money back from PayPal since there's no buyer protection after 6 months. I told him in email that if I knew it wasn't his fault that CGC had a backlog and was completely empathetic to his situation, and that I would buy the book again if and when he received it. And if the value of the slab went up by the time he received it, I would pay the higher value within reason. The owner then sends a bunch of vitriolic emails to me calling me every vicious name in the book he could think of, accusing me of trying to "back out" of the deal when in fact Ebay's buyer protection for me had already expired and PayPal's was a mere week from expiring. What was I supposed to do? Wait another 6 months for him to get the book and then hope he sends it to me even though he won't have much of a legal obligation to do so? The owner of this business apparently is a troglodyte with poor social skills and demeanor. The shop itself has a good variety of products, but it's not worth dealing with someone who behaves like this. The owner of this shop uses the ebay handle HotShotComics and no longer sells on ebay because he apparently ticked off one too many customers. My family and I drove 1 and a half hours to Asheville to check out some comic shops. This was our first stop and I have to admit we were pretty excited. Well, we were until we went inside. The guy, who I'm pretty sure was the owner, was rude and standoffish. He was too busy reading a comic or whatever to ask if there was anything we were looking for. He was silent the whole time we were in there and it was completely awkward. It felt like we were invading his personal space. My son saw a few things, but I wasn't going to give my money to someone who blatantly doesn't care what he sells. We will not be going back and I have friends in the Asheville area that said they would have told us not to waste our time going. read more

Like to experience new places with son on weekend and sometimes drive for hours.Usually the destination is s reward in itself.I cant say that was the case for my experience.Having a past in sales and retail I have learned that the customer loves to see happy employees or owners who thrust themselves into their work and give you a vibe about their passion for being in whatever business it is.Eye contact,conversation,more levity the better.I felt like I was in a funeral home or a library as the owner had no interest in me as a customer or strived to spark a direct line of communication to show me he was equally vested in every customer who walked through the door and he was going to make me a return customer.It wasn't there and sadly no money spent but it's more than that.Its a lost opportunity to help everyday people pay Bill's and make new friends and have a unique experience worth driving two hours for.I hope this review helps anyone looking for a collectible/comics shop in Asheville area cause this is not your only option and definitely not the best. read more
