First off, the place is now called 'Angy's'...but, its the same nice cast of characters…read more Best men's haircuts in New Providence...and, the price is right, too. I've been going to this place, through its various name-changes, for over 10 years. In that time, I have tried most of the other salons and barbers in New Providence...but, keep coming back here...as do many of the men and women in New Providence. The folks here are all good at what they do, very pleasant to spend time with, kid friendly and their prices are about the best in town. Being 60 years old, my haircut styles have ranged from the butch-waxed, flattop crewcuts of my childhood...through 1970s long 'mod' hair...to the extremely 'styled' haircuts of the 1980's - 90's...and finally to the 'a lot less hair' that I deal with now. In any of those eras, I would have been happy to bring my noggin to Angy's

Did I really pay $20 for a haircut (where they didn't wash my hair) or did I have a really bad…read moredream? Aryannas is a tiny little beauty shop wedged between a frozen yogurt place (Strawberry Fields) and a Chinese restaurant (Fan Bistro) in downtown New Providence. If you blink, you'll miss it. The shop itself is neat and clean with chairs/mirrors along the walls and a sink in the back. I had gotten my hair cut here several years ago when it was Marleny's or something similar. The Man also regularly gets his hair cut here because it's convenient. Actually, the only reason I even stopped in last week was because it's on my way home - I couldn't be bothered to drive all the way to NYC for a haircut on a weeknight. The place never seems to be crowded. I walked in around 6 o'clock and there was one guy getting his hair cut. I'm pretty sure that's the busiest I've ever seen it. The cut itself isn't bad. I needed the dry ends cut off, so we're talking about 6" here (my hair is long and I typically only cut it once or twice a year). I was expecting them to lead me back to the sink for a wash, so I was surprised when the stylist, Maria, told me to sit in one of the empty chairs. I told her I wanted the ends cut off, 5 or 6 inches. She said it was no problem, and proceeded to spray my hair with a water bottle. Ooooohkay. Not what I was expecting at all, but it apparently worked. In about 8 minutes, she had my hair done and I was walking out the door. I didn't ask for anything fancy, so I had had no problem with how quickly she got me in and out. What I did have a problem with was how the stylist and receptionist stood behind me and talked about me in Spanish, trying to figure out if I had highlights in my hair (the answer is no, it has been almost 2 years since I've colored my hair at all). They could have just asked me. Instead, they whispered back and forth to themselves until I finally just told them the answer. Is this place awful? No, I've definitely had my hair butchered by other places before. Would I make this my regular salon? Not in a million years. They seem to be proficient, but not really spectacular at their jobs (I've had to neaten up The Man's haircuts on several occasions). For convenience, I don't mind stopping in here, but I'd rather go to a stylist who will have an actual conversation with me about my hair and what I want/need done to it.
