I came here for my friend's baby's first birthday. In Korean culture, a baby's 1-year-old birthday is a HUUUUUGE deal. It's called a Doljanchi or a "DOL"--where the baby wears a hanbok (traditional dress) and there's a ritual (sort of a fortune telling) where a bunch of innocuous objects are placed in front of the baby, ex. a string, a gavel, a coin, a brush, etc. And when the baby picks up the object, say a gavel, then s/he will become a judge...something like that. It's all in good fun. Ironically, the baby did in fact pick up the gavel, which is rare, usually babies pick up the coin or a string since it's lighter and easier to grab. I've seen pictures of my DOL and it's off the hook. There is a bunch of food, especially Korean duk and tons of fruit-- to represent prosperity and long-life. My grandparents (on my dad's side) were so proud to hold me in the photo-- I looked kinda miserable. In fact, I looked like a boy. The reason why DOLs are such a big deal is because traditionally in Korea, most babies didn't survive past their first year of life. Apparently, my mom told me that when I was 3 months old, I got really really sick, and was sick for another 3 months afterward and she was afraid that I wouldn't make it. Dramatic, right? So, when I turned one, she threw a huge party-- "a thankful relief," she said. That's why when I get sick as an adult, I get really sick because my immune system is basically shot. And it's really cute, even today, my mom freaks out when I get sick, because she remembers back to when I was a baby. And always gives me the motherly speech about sleeping more and drinking fluids..and it's one of the rare times I actually allow her to "take care of me." Heck, I think it's the only time I let anyone take care of me. Either way, the celebration was beautiful. So proud of my friend for being such an amazing mother/woman-- and she's really blessed to have such a beautiful child, who will forever love and adore her. Babies are the best, they need you like no other, and I absolutely love taking care of them.

Its rear neighbor is the old city hall that is cracked in half and shifting in two different directions. I love this area for exploring the Hayward Fault. I don't know if this place would survive - its all concrete looking and fragile with age. I love to walk the fault and I walk it often. I hang around the little park next to the Dirty Bird Lounge and then I make my way toward the old city hall. Next I go past the card room and across the street and look at the senior retirement center that is right on the fault line. I think to myself, "if this ever shakes one day those senior citizens will wake up." Then I go to the back parking lot of the Indian Food restaurant. Favorite Indian. I like that place... very classy hostess who always dressed up to impress. Kid brother and Godfather and I used to go there often. That doesn't happen anymore. Too bad. In front there is some green space and lawn - I do think that needs a little help too. Veterans deserve a bit better since this is their memorial building. IDK what are we going to do about this? Maybe we can put a new coat of paint on this building one day. I do think that is what might help.

The actual building itself is a bit old, but you cannot beat the location. You open the patio doors and see the lake right in front of you. The building has chairs and tables provided. There are two restrooms (women's and men's) and a kitchen to prepare or store food. I love the fact that you can utilize both the inside are to store food and have places to sit and the outside area for games or just to enjoy the nice view and sun. Clean up - they require all trash and recycling to be removed and for the floors to be swept clean before you can leave. Parking: can get pretty tight. If you have an event - highly recommend to make it at 12 or earlier to help your guests get priority on parking spots.

Here's the breakdown: - the facility is a 2,000 square feet multi-purpose room that can accommodate about 110 people. - It has large kitchen in the back complete with stove, oven, microwave and large fridge. - it has a women's and men's restroom that is only available for your event (meaning, closed to the Lake-goers in the area). - rental of the facility includes 10 10x2 tables, as well as plenty of chairs. - there is a 6 hr minimum to rent (includes kitchen): $390 for Fremont residents, $510 for non-residents - each additional hour is $65 (resident) and $85 (non-resident) Pros: - booking was a breeze; I did my transactions online and correspondence via email and the contacts were very helpful and responsive! - the facility has lots of windows and overlooks a really great part of Lake Elizabeth. - close to the parking lot and easy to find. Cons: - building is quite old - parking lot can get packed by lunch time Other notes: - allow ample time for set up; the tables and chairs are not set up for you - soap and toilet paper is provided in the bathrooms; dishwashing liquid and surface cleaners however, are not...so bring your own - mops and brooms are located in the supply cabinet by the restrooms - you can serve beer, wine and champagne for a maximum of 4 hours Would book this again!
