We engaged Ashley to take pictures at the Chicago Botanic Gardens of a family of over 20 people. She managed the whole affair prepping everyone to be their most photogenic and explaining the different poses. She moved us around the gardens to take advantage of different lighting and different spaces for the various family pictures. Ashley met in our neighborhood to buy us coffee and talk about what my wife wanted in our wedding photographs before we hired her. She got the aesthetic my wife was going for 100%. Ashley was hands down the best wedding vendor decision we made in every way possible. Not only is she incredibly talented, friendly, and always available, but she went above and beyond to make sure my day was perfect. We FaceTimed so many times leading up to the wedding and she made it seem as though I was always her top priority. She even FaceTimed with me on a Friday night and reached out to nearly all of her florist contacts to help me find someone after I unexpectedly had to cancel my contract with my previous florist. Needless to say, Ashley was more than just my photographer, but was a friend/therapist through the entire process and I could not have done it without her. The day of the wedding, Ashley was organized and commanded the whole group to make sure we stayed on schedule. The entire wedding party and all of the parents loved her and she was joyful to be around the whole day. Also, I have been to several weddings where all you notice is the photographer snapping pictures, but somehow she managed to be discreet and blend in with the wedding- and still get all of the pictures! Having my wedding in December, my biggest fear was what the weather was going to be like and how to prepare for it. In true friend fashion, Ashley helped me pick out the "just in case umbrellas" and drove around town the day before the wedding looking for all the potential photo locations. Of course it poured the day of, but we made the most of it and the umbrella pictures are some of my favorites! Every single picture turned out absolutely amazing. I have gotten SO many compliments, and several people have told me they are the best wedding photos they have ever seen. We chose Ashley because of the sterling reviews she had gotten on Yelp, and the images on her website. BEWARE!!! Oh how I wish I had known what the reality of working with Ashley would be like. If I could give Ashley Hamm Photography a ZERO rating I would. She shot our engagement photos and wedding, and in both instances her work was far inferior to anything shown on her website. Despite dozens of conversations and examples of the content that we were looking for in the photos, she completely ignored our wishes. The initial gallery for our engagement photos was completely unedited - and I literally had to sit with her and show her the editing that needed to be done. She was late to our wedding, left early, missed taking photos of half of our guests, never gave us any direction whatsoever, didn't take any pictures of the guests where they were actually smiling for the camera (90% of what we have is people talking to each other or dancing - nobody actually looking at the camera - it's horrible!) - and she missed taking photos of more than half of the guests who were there! She had no family pictures that weren't all of us just lined up in a row (which we SPECIFICALLY asked her not to do), she didn't come prepared with the right equipment (no light meter, no reflector, no second camera body ready to go, no step stool...) ... the list of how many ways she fell short of her promises goes on and on. She was incredibly rude to our family and guests - bossing them around, telling them what they could and could not do (things that had nothing to do with the wedding), insulting them, and refusing to take their pictures when they asked her if she could take one. She didn't follow-through on her promises, and post-wedding has consistently refused to address any of our concerns. She has had every opportunity to do the right thing - to respond like a professional, and to at least try to do something to correct the abysmal job she did for our engagement session and wedding photos. She has done nothing, and consistently takes more than a week to respond to emails. I WOULD NEVER USE ASHLEY AGAIN NOR WOULD I EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TRUST HER WITH PHOTOGRAPHS FOR ANY EVENT OF ANY IMPORTANCE. read more

We were trying to shoot family pictures with the focus being on our newborn son. He was a month old at the time. We hired Ashley to take family photos when our twin girls were six months old. We absolutely loved the photos from that session, and have since brought her back for additional photos when the girls were 9 months, 1 year, 18 months, 2 years, and 3 years. We have a little boy now, and we plan to have Ashley out again to do three month photos of him, plus the rest of the family. Sometimes we have the session in our house, sometimes we are outside the house, and sometimes we meet at some outdoor venue like a local park or the Morton Arboretum.
