They have all the norms - annuals,…read moreperennials, veggies, herbs, roses, shrubs, trees - but the variety within each is like nothing I have ever seen before. So unique! The plants are healthy and thriving. I wanted everything! Gerbera daisies are one of my favorite flowers. With their bright colors of yellow, orange, red and pink, they remind me of happy faces and I always plant them in my containers. In winter months, I buy bouquets to brighten up my space. Typically I buy the yellows and oranges, which I call sunshine colors. At Good News Gardening, they had a variety that I had never seen; the petals were much thinner and in abundance, adding so much texture and whimsy. Even though the tag said Gerbera, I had to ask one of the ladies working there if it was, indeed, a Gerbera Daisy! Next year, this is where I will buy them, no question. As I wandered around, I noticed every section had unique varietals. The dahlias were the size of a dinner plate and the colors of peach, yellow, white and pink in one flower stopped me in my tracks. Only to be outdone by the vibrant orange and white striped variety. In the herb section, options are boundless. At least a dozen types of oregano. Spicy Italian oregano? Yes, please! Dozens of types of mint (plant only in a contained area) and so many varieties of basil. More types of lettuce and tomatoes than I had ever heard of or eaten. This incredulous reaction occurred in every area that I visited. I have been gardening for 40 years and today I learned so much! Wow. Inside they have houseplants and a huge section of seeds. I'm totally into Oregon wildflowers like the delicate blue cornflower, bright orange California poppy, yellow & orange milkweed and yarrow to name a few. They had seed packets of each or mixed. Lots of seeds for veggies, too. The section was extensive! When you are inside you will be serenaded by the dozens of little birds that found their way in and are sitting on the poles or in the rafters singing their songs! Everyone here is happy, and who wouldn't be?! Everyone working there was super friendly and helpful. They genuinely love what they do and are so knowledgeable. They don't just want to sell you something, they want what you purchase to grow and thrive. Shout out to Maria who shared my love for that incredible Gerbera Daisy and showed me all the different colors it came in. Prices are a bit higher but the quality and uniqueness makes it totally worth it. Next year, I will head directly here without even stopping anywhere else. With my limited amount of space for flowers, I only want the best and unique!

I walked in here yesterday because my friend Matt needed to stop and check something in his car. Looks better if I'm "shopping" rather than just lingering in their parking lot. So I went in, and took a look around. I was actually really curious about the store and what they sold. So I was totally game to go in. Who knows what you can find in a store you've never been in? I might have even learned something new! The guy working was helping a customer. Didn't even acknowledge that I existed, so I wandered. The customer left, and I still didn't exist to the guy working. Matt comes in, and the employee makes sure to greet him, ask him if he was looking for anything specific. Not overly friendly, but actually offering him some decent customer service. I'm not a fan of anyone who uses my gender to base their level of customer service on or how much they're going to offer to help me. Which is exactly what happened in here. As Matt and I were walking around, we found some home pond ideas. They do sell the tubs to create a pond in your backyard, which is actually really cool. Now, back to my original serial killer comment... they carry copious amounts of shovels, industrial-grade duct tape, heavy-duty rubber gloves, flags for like sprinklers, and more along those lines. If I were going to murder someone and planned it out, I'd probably come here for all of the supplies to dispose of my victims. Small town, poor customer service because of being a female, unlimited supplies. It's literally perfect for that kind of thing! Which is sadly, the most memorable thing about my visit in here. How perfect this place is if I ever needed those kind of supplies. I don't plan on it, for the record, but that was what I noticed. Would I return? Only if I become a serial killer, as I would actually need this store. Past that, no. I am quite sure I can find the pond supplies much closer to home and with better customer service. For children there are books and stuffed animals. Books for adults, too! Many focused on wildlife, gardening, hiking and nature. Plus sweatshirts, t-shirts, jackets, hats, fashion jewelry, stunning colorful glass ornaments and some really pretty textured throw blankets. Also a few blankets in PNW patterns. In the back corner there is an area dedicated to food and pantry items from Oregon called the Farmers Market. Jams, chocolate, hazelnuts, honey and other items stock the shelves. Soon they will be selling local beer, wine and cider. The store is laid out nicely with lots of room to browse. Customer service was great! The woman working there was very enthusiastic about their products telling me about the history, the foundation and future plans. No surprise, I ended up buying a pair of earrings! I swear I could open my own jewelry store! Will definitely visit again while making my rounds in Oak Street.

I appreciate that they are taking social distancing seriously, but they are the only pot shop in the gorge that won't let you in the door and will have you stand outside in the cold and wind so they don't have to spray surfaces down or something? After my parents passed away I moved back to my childhood home in Hood River where one of the trees was rotting. Because of my past bad experiences with tree trimmers I really dreaded having to use one and put it off until the tree was risk for falling. I had no idea what company to use so I picked A life With Trees because I liked the name of the company and I definitely picked the right company! From my initial contact with them, to the assessment of my tree, to the actual work on the tree, to how quickly and efficiently they performed their work, to their outstanding safety practices, and to all of their communication with me, I found everyone with the company to extremely professional and friendly. The customer service is exceptional! While I'm often there for the typical hardware items for home projects, I can't visit the store without checking out the home area where they often have really nice decor like dish towels, candles and kitchen gadgets. The garden area is also a must visit for whimsical yard art, glass hummingbirds and healthy indoor plants. Parking lot is huge! I love everything about this store.
