Each time I visit this well-stocked, clean and hunger-inducing (!) market, I am pleased by both the variety and price. My bags of basmati rice, Indian snacks, amazing array of seasoning blends or singular spices (the real meal-makers), the excellent array of prepared frozen foods and, of course, the wonderful produce section . . . I could shop here every day. Naan bread with garlic pickle. I am addicted to garlic pickle. Yep. I love this place, and it's riight here in Cromwell. (Tahini! Add tahini to everything. Tahini mixed with honey and spread over oven-toasted naan . . . Heavenly.) I wish I could remember the manager's name, for which I apologize, as he is such a nice, friendly gentlman who, even when obviously very busy, makes time to answer questions, and point in the right direction, even offering menu ideas. I recently rediscovered my love of Indian food. My mother's curiosity has created a buzz in our family. In the last two weeks we have visited two restaurants and two stores. That being said, we decided to check out Asia Grocers today, in Cromwell. Asia Grocers is set back from the road, in a large building with plenty of parking. The store is brightly lit with large amply spaced aisles. The entire left and back walls are lined with freezer and refrigerator cases. The first aisle is produce, some standard veggies and fruit, but mostly things that you wouldn't find in your common store. The rest of the aisles are filled with boxed and packaged foods and items sold in bulk. There is a also a small selection of cooking appliances. The first case that we looked into had numerous brands and flavors of Naan and the likes. Continuing down this aisle we found frozen prepared foods, meal starters, vegetables, ice cream & more. In the refrigerated section I found pocketless pitas (one of my favs), ginormous containers of yogurt, different kinds of cheeses, tofu and desserts. While we were just browsing on this visit, I will definitely be coming back. The prices were decent, the aisles were clean and the selection was great. read more

This is a pretty spacious desi store. Isles are wider than usual ones. One interesting thing is that there is a ton of Kerala food in this store. There were many brands of matta rice. Also there were a lot of Kerala frozen food. There were Kerala frozen fish too. There was banana flower and green mango as well. I think around Onam timeframe, there will be banana leaf as well. Among regular products were multiple varieties of basmati rice and many interesting Indian ice cream flavors. read more

I am an American who happens to love Indian food. What I love about this store first of all, is it's cleanliness. Not only is the store clean and neat, the product expiration dates are checked and discarded if expired. New products arrive regularly and I've witnessed product rotation. Secondly, The produce is fresh and appealing in spite of being imported. Some of the vegetables are grown right on site in season in a huge garden on the side of the market. Thirdly, is the variety of items carried in this market from frozen dinners to Diwali Diyas which I just purchased last week. I have purchased bulk items like rice and dal and also smaller items to make up a gift basket of sweets and chutneys. I would have given this store five stars if it were not for the dent in my wallet. I understand the cost of importing foods but I just wish I could get out the door with change in my purse. Was shopping in the area looking for stores to go to and decided to check for asian groceries and this business came up. It was a couple miles away so we thought why not, and went to check it out. The store es at bank front the road a little so it was kind of hard to see. Large parking lot but not too many cars there. So, the reason for three stars - we went in the hopes of finding a variety of asian foods, but found that the store had only food from the country of India. If we were shopping for this type of food, I would give the store 4 stars, but they had no other area for groceries from any other asian country. Asia Grocers is a great alternative to ADong's because the prices are often cheaper. They carry tons of Indian food. I find they are reasonable for frozen Indian meals if you are on a gluten -free diet. Many of the Indian items are at least $0.50- $1 less than ADong. The store is often cluttered as they associates are constantly restocking the shelves. I see that as a plus because that means the turnover rate is a def plus. I discovered this store while looking for rose water and found it for half the price other stores sell them for. One downside of this store is that the produce department is not consistent. Sometimes they have green mangos other times it's only ripe mangos. read more

These guys are the best! They have an incredibly deep inventory with a wide variety of choices of quality products. A member of their staff asked if I needed help finding things and proceeded to walk me around the store to find what I was after. He asked clarifying questions and offered several options to choose from. Really a pleasant shopping experience and I'll be sure to give them another try. read more

Expired items are sold. Last week got Lays chips. We were not able to see the manufactured date and expired date because of "Nutrition Facts sticker " was sticked on top of the mfg date label. By removing the "Nutrition fact sticker" we got to know it was expired one month back. Please be careful with expired products. read more

Easily the best mango's I have gotten in a long time. I usually buy by the case at a very reasonable $6. Other prices for produce are very good, there isn't a ton of other things that I would get other than the produce at this point but I am still learning. It is usually kind of crowded here even if they are slow, there isn't a great set up and only one cashier working every time I have been here but I can't deny the amazing farm stand prices for veggies and fruits. read more

This store is big and you will get almost all kind of your need but maximum items are not good quality. Maximum item are 2nd grade quality. Last week got one bag rice with full of stone with rice. Once I realize that the rice is not good and asked for that then they told we can't return. Today I got one bag of Mango and after came back home once we cut it, all are not good and I had to throw. I am really happy to discover this place. There is a great selection of spices, legumes, and other dry goods that would cost significantly more at mainstream supermarkets if they are available at all. There is a more limited selection of fruits and vegetables but I was very happy with the mangoes that I purchased. Although this is an Asian market, there are all the familiar brands that are staples in many West Indian and African households. read more

I decided to visit this shop after reading several other positive Yelp reviews. I'm glad I did. I am always looking for good quality Asian veggies. I was impressed by the selection available here. I was able to buy a whole winter melon, and some FRESH ripe jackfruit. Not only fresh, but cut into pieces as well, which was very convenient. (Anyone who had gone through the "ritual" of oiling knives, surfaces and hands whilst cutting up a jackfruit to prevent the sticky sap from the rind gumming up everything will know what I mean! I was able to buy about two weeks worth of veggies, and the prices were excellent. As for non-vegetable groceries, also a good selection here. All of the staples are on hand, such as rice, pickles, noodles, spices and tea. They sell frozen packages of goat meat. That's difficult to find in shops around here, and I'm always on the hunt for it. The store was clean, the staff knowledgeable and friendly. The shop is easy to find, and there's a big parking lot. Asia Grocers in Newington moved to Cromwell, CT. They are even BIGGER now! It's run by a friendly bunch of people and the hep is fantastic. They have a large variety of Asian ethnic foods and their specialty is Indian. Nice fresh produce section. I wish them the best of luck in their new location. read more

This place is good. The vegetables are pretty fresh and you can get a lot of south indian Kerala foods, which is difficult to find elsewhere. It seems they are more reasonably priced than Cosmos. But the biggest downsides to this place is that it is very UNORGANIZED. It is a mess most of the time and the floors could be cleaned more often. Also, the refrigerated foods need to checked for EXPIRED FOODS. You can consistently see moldy sweets in their fridge. No one checks and it has been like this since I was a kid. So we don't get any of the frozen foods. read more
