This store has such a fun variety of Asian grocery options that are hard to find elsewhere. But more so, the staff is incredible. The owners are so friendly, but I more want to call out the young woman who I see working the register by the door every time I visit. Asia Market is great for various Asian supplies in a clean & well kept up store. Asia Market has a rather diverse selection of Asian goods that include: Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Indian, & others. Along with the De Bu Market twin in the same run down multi-hole in the wall, Stowell Mall, it is very hard to pick out among the zillions of tiny store. Neither one is a classy, nor extensive Asian Market, but still an invaluable find in the Central Coast area between Monterey to Santa Barbara. You really have to go to either the San Jose Area (Story Rd.) or south to Garden Grove in Orange County to find an extensive selection of Vietnamese & other Asian food supplies. Asia Market has a fairly good & clean selection of mainly canned, bottled, & dry packed goods. Many asian staples can be found here (see extensive pics). Yes they do have some refrigerated items, such as Miso & Mochi (which was fresh & delicious), but are lacking in fresh veges.. If you are hankering for fresh Asian veges., baked goods, & more Filipino type fare then you must hit Pismo De Bu on a Friday, around 4-6 PM when they get their fresh shipment in from LA. Since we came to Asia Market on a random day, it is hard to tell if they have a special delivery day for refrigerated items. These tend to sell out right away. The service in the store was friendly & they had a cute little cart to fill up with goodies! If you are in Santa Maria, it is great place to get Asian goods at a fair price for the area. It sure beats driving hundreds of miles for some Mochi! read more

It's been awhile since I last visited this store. And when I heard of my friend's recent experience there, I'll def will NOT be going back. Now I understand why all the Koreans who live locally prefer to travel down to LA and stock up rather than go here. My friend purchased a few items and when she went to pay, she noticed the shop owner overcharged her. When this was brought up to the owner's attention, she was snappy. My friend took here to where the canned item was and the price that was labeled there. To which the owner stated, she labeled the wrong price with no apology. So my friend said she'd like a refund. To which the owner said it was not possible as her card has already been charged. Surely this is illegal?! I like supporting small family businesses. But not with practices like this! read more

Sorry but if your door says 8pm and you close it up and go home at 7:05pm when I'm standing at the door with cash and only need a single item then you get 1 Star. I hate businesses that don't keep the hours they post on line or even worse on the front door of the establishment. I will not return I usually get what I need from a different Asian Market anyway I just wanted to support a locally owed business that I had not tried yet. Your loss! I can't really grasp what the low star Yelpers are talking about. Yes- They get their things from Los Angeles, therefore... they SHOULD charge extra to pay for their gas and time.. otherwise... YOU drive YOURSELF to Los Angeles to get your own Korean ingredients. We are in West Jesus Nowhere, California... what do you expect? You expect there to be a giant H-Mart Market here in Santa Maria to serve the small percentage of folks that want Korean food? Silly! I'm half Korean and just moved here from San Diego (very sad). One of the first things I did when I moved here was Yelped the closest Asian Market with Kimchi access. I walked into this store and was welcomed by a very nice Korean lady (Jenny). She hesitantly admitted that they only have "basic" korean items BUT I was very pleased with the selection. It was far more than what I expected: gochujang, cha jang myeun, moo (pickled daikon), variety sized kimchi, mandu, and even bulgogi/kalbi meat. Most cold items are double priced due to transporting from Los Angeles, but as I said - that's expected and necessary. This will be my go-to place for my "basic" needs to survive here in Santa Maria. We came for items we could not find in the local grocery store, and were incredibly successful. To add to the wonderful selection of items, I was given a step-by-step recipe for miso soup. She even walked me over to ingredients I was missing. I truly appreciate the care the employee gave me and my partner. Definitely making this my go-to! read more

I like having my Asian food shopping options in town. I found the owner nice and he asked me if i needed help finding anything. I didn't see ponzu or shoyu sauce for poke but they had a good selection of other groceries like a good selection of qualifying Mochi ice cream. read more

I just want to know if there is ANYONE out there who can tell me WHY an area as diverse as the Central Coast, which appears to have a sizeable resident population of Japanese, Korean, Northern AND Southern Chinese and Filipinos DOES NOT HAVE a decent Asian market? Since my wife and I made our 'escape' from Orange County, almost every occasional trip back has included a visit to one or another of the fabulous Asian markets...whether it be Mitsuwa, Marukai, Tokyo Central (division of Marukai), H Market, etc. The selection and prices made these places absolutely essential to our larder. Point being, after much diligent searching, I actually found 2 places claiming to be Asian markets, the largest one being THIS one. What a pitiful excuse for an Asian Market. It almost seems, based on the prices here, that the owners actually shopped for their supplies in L.A., buying at full retail, then bring it up here and marking the items up to about double the average prices in the L.A./Orange Co. area. I'm just guessing that maybe the owners are either unaware that they do NOT have the market cornered on Asian groceries, or maybe they DO think that. The service/product knowledge was about what I expected from this place, once I had cruised the aisles...poor and poorer. Apparently, one must be able to not speak English, or any Asian language, in order to communicate one's desires here. Warning to all Asians and fans of Asian food products at actually reasonable prices and selections...AVOID THIS PLACE!! RUN AWAY!...RUN AWAY!! read more

It's got a lot of the basics for Asian cooking, which is good. Not a whole lot, but there isn't a huge market in the area so they can't be blamed for limiting their inventory. I can get my gochugang for Korean Spicy Pork, my frozen unagi for sushi, my miso, my cellophane noodles, my bamboo steam baskets. I'm happy. I probably would have only given them 3 stars but they get an extra one just for existing at all. read more

A small collection of asian and mexican products. Nothing to call home about but I was grateful to see a few personal favorites and incredibly reasonable in price too! They have some cooking staples and mostly convenience noodles and snacks/sweets. I haven't seen the red bean wafer treats I used to eat as a child in a long while so I was excited to see them here. I wish they carried the mung bean cakes too but beggars can't be choosers since this IS santa maria. read more

LOVE this place! they treat me and my girls like family every time we come in! friendly married couple that took over from original owners who had been there for years. they catered to my likings. if they ran low on certain products, they made sure to order more the next time so I was never without. they always have little gifts and prizes for my girls when we go in! genuinely good people. shes even given me free kimchi that she made herself that was btw very yummy. I cant say enough good things about this place. a hidden gem id say. But since ive grown up coming here having an Asian grandmother, I think ive been a bit spoiled being "in the know" read more

If you are Korean & looking for Korean ingredients, this is the place for you. Don't expect a bunch of choices here, but if you need some basic Korean ingredients like pepper paste & powder, kimchi (they get from L.A.), seaweed paper and maybe few other items, it's fine. It's a very small store. Owner is Korean & very nice. English was limited, but I would go back since I live in an area where all the Asian markets, I've gone to, do not really cater to Korean food. read more

Horrible service, the guy that works there is so unfriendly. No one ever asks of you need help. My little boy moved something and set it down a little further on the shelf, I think the guy working there was accusing him of stealing it. I kept insisting he has nothing, I asked him if he moved something to please put it back the guy watched him like a hawk move a pack of gum seriously a couple feet over on the shelf back where it was. Took my money to the better service and more affordable market a couple stores down. Won't be back. read more
