I went to a jewelry store a block away prior to visiting Hap Yen and I brought in 2 necklaces on the first visit for an exchange for a longer necklace. And was quoted that i would need to pay an additional 1K in addition to the 2 necklaces. He said if I had other jewelry at home, i could consider trading those in. I did so the following week, bringing in one necklace that weighed the same as the 2 pieces I brought earlier. He said, great, you just need to pay an additional $450. So basically I would be giving him the 20 grams of gold for $450. Somehow this didn't make any sense, gold chains similar to this retails for 2K . I understand that I wouldn't be getting $1200, but that's a significant difference. I went to Hap Yuen the following week, and they quoted me a fair deal for the same gold chain as the other jeweler had offered. There was no pressure or fast talking, confusing calculations here. It should be simple: here is what we'll pay you for the gold you brought in. Choose what you want to exchange it for and that's your cost. I bought these beautiful quality gemstone or ivory necklace and bracelet jewelry for between $100-$250 10-20 years ago. Her costs of repairs were between $125-$175 each. They are made with very thin and fine hooks, so they broke easily. What she said Were you boxing is not a nice comment. I feel she wasted my time as I stood there for 10-15 minutes, not being straightforward in letting me know the costs. I guess she wanted me to know why her cost of repair is high.
