I came here early on a Saturday after checking out a few shoe sole repair locations on Yelp. Mak had great reviews, so I decided to come early and get a quote since they were open on Saturday. I needed to get my boots' soles replaced and was thinking about completely swapping the soles too. Mak provided me a reasonable quote for the rebuild and was also very knowledgeable in the shoe care tips he shared with me. He said he would complete an entire rebuild of both leather boots' soles within the day, and I was able to come before closing time to pick them up. I accepted and left my boots and contact information. Separately from my experience with the shoe repair, a couple came in after me to do a watch repair as I was leaving. Within seconds, Mak was able to identify the problem and said it'd take 10 minutes to fix. Talk about someone who knows their craft very well! He sent a text less than 2.5 hours later letting me know they was ready for pickup. I came before the store closed to pick them up. The boots' soles were revitalized, I put them on and walked around the store with them. I was very happy. Mak is awesome, gets your shoe repair done quickly with reasonable prices, and I will absolutely going to Mak for any shoe repairs I may have in the future! read more

I messaged this shop on Yelp first and got a prompt response, which made me decide to stop by. I came in around 3:00 PM on a Thursday for shoe resoling. After being quoted $90-$120 elsewhere, I was pleasantly surprised to learn his pricing is $35-$50 per pair, depending on whether the bottom heel also needs to be soled. I ended up bringing in three pairs of shoes (two with top heels done, one with both top and bottom heel soled). He told me to come back in 1.5-2 hours, and when I returned around 4:30 PM, all three pairs were ready. The work looked clean, professional, and well finished--I was really impressed. I also had him replace a watch battery. When I got home later that day and realized it still wasn't working, I messaged him right away. He responded the next day, asked me to come back in, and fixed it within minutes--he even offered a refund if it couldn't be resolved. Fair pricing, fast turnaround, quality work, and honest service. I recently came back from a European vacation and needed repair on my very nice Coach bag. Midway through my trip, the anchor stitching that secured the leather bound ends of my bag where my strap would be used and connected to starting to come unraveled. Since this is a hefty luxury bag, going to my clothing alteration shop wouldn't work as I was recommended to go to a cobbler as they would have the machines necessary to fix a bag. Fortunately, for me when I got back home, I found MAK & CO which came highly recommended and was near to where I lived. I contacted MAK via the online quote portal on yelp. He immediately responded with his number and said to text him directly with some of the images of the bag damage. I contacted him and sent him the photos of the damage and he quoted me $20 per end and said he could take care of it pretty fast. I took the bag in on New Year's Eve and MAK took a quick look at it and said he could get it done in two hours. I was completely surprised and I reminded him he didn't have to get it to me that fast. He said it wouldn't be a problem. Not only was he able to turn around the bag within a few hours he said the total repair would be only $20 for both ends and not $20 per end. This was half the amount which I was expecting to pay. Totally happy with what he said I left and came back maybe about five hours later near to when he was about to close. He gathered the bag and showed me his repair which he did very securely and tight. I have no doubt that this repair will last hopefully forever. The total amount was only $20 as he said, and I walked away very happy and appreciative. MAK & CO was very professional, quick with the turnaround and very affordable. I for one will definitely be back as I have many shoes that I have been waiting to get repaired. He definitely is an artisan. read more

Needed to have my heels replaced in a pinch, and I saw a review that mentioned a quick turnaround time. Took 2 pairs of Louboutins that were worn down to the metal heels and the leather scraped back. The owner promised me a 1-hour turnaround time for the heels and that he would try his best to fix the leather. Indeed, I was able to pick up my shoes at the promised time, the heels replaced, and the leather pulled back! So pleased with how they came out. Very reasonable pricing. Quick and solid service in the heart of FiDi! I came to Mak & Co to get some new leather shoes stretched. I came in, asked for what I needed, and was told to come back the next day -- in and out in just a couple of minutes. When I picked them up, they were definitely roomier! Not a whole lot larger, but enough for me to be able to break them in! The price was $20, which I think is fair. What I appreciated is the owner/worker being clear on what he can't/shouldn't do. It was clear he had the best outcome for the shoes in mind, as he recommended breaking them in more than anything, rather than pushing for an upsell. Mak & Co's hours are also really great if you work in FiDi because you can come before or after work. EDIT: SHOE FIXED AND FOAM REMOVED WITHOUT EXTRA CHARGE - I asked to repair the sole in the way that would best preserve the Prada shoe (and if there's any way to preserve the sole and the slight elevated heel.) when I picked them up, parts of the red leather is stained with tar and there is visible gapping between the rubber and the foam on both sides. The foam and the rubber are two different shades and is messily sanded away. Even the leather itself is sanded away in some areas. (See photo #7) The heel is much more dramatic than it was in the beginning and is sloped like a wedge instead of beveled. I would have much preferred it without the foam- it cheapens the entire shoe. I was not consulted about the foam. Parts of the red leather of the original shoe were sanded away. When I pointed out the foam the shop owner says it's the same technique he uses for Vans Sneakers. This is not a van sneaker!!!! This whole experience was $95 dollars. I cried when I got home. read more

UPDATE: Wow. Someone from Mak & Co just responded to my review saying that he spoke to me and I did not respond. That is simply not true. I spoke two times after he interrupted me. This man clearly does not want my business, which is fully within his rights, but just really really weird (and so very hurtful). Glad he was great with others, but he was shockingly unkind and unprofessional to me. I never actually got my shoes repaired because the person working was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered at a business. I said hello and he rolled his eyes, and then as I was started to say that I had some shoes that I wasn't sure were even repairable, he rolled his eyes a second time, sighed, and interrupted to me to say irritably that he would have to see the shoes in order to comment. I had been in the store all of maybe 6 seconds. I do not know why this man was so rude; I have never been to the shop before. It was truly shocking and, frankly, hurtful. I was taken aback and said, oh, never mind, I will just leave. And he didn't try to stop me so *shrug* who knows what that was about. The place gets such good reviews, and I was really excited to try them, so very disappointing all around. Since I was meeting my daughter there, I decided to bring the coin purse to see how much he would charge me to fix it.
