The estimate came to nearly $1,000. When I questioned why all of that work was necessary and asked why the existing P-trap couldn't simply be unsoldered and replaced, he responded, "Yeah, that's another way of doing it," and then lowered the price. That immediately made me uncomfortable. If there was a much simpler and less expensive way to do the repair, I don't understand why the nearly $1,000 option was presented as necessary in the first place. I can't say what the intention was, but I left feeling like I had narrowly avoided being seriously overcharged. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion and asking detailed questions before agreeing to any work or additional repairs.
