I've been visiting Marfa for over ten years and each time it seems more commercialized, crowded, and expensive. This shop is typical of the higher end businesses populating Marfa but they had some nice items such as face and hair masks, candles, t-shirts and a fun assortment of unique soft and hard beverages. I felt guilty about only using the bathroom since I wasn't a hotel guest so I bought a hair mask and pretty silk printed bandana (made in Portland). Unlike many of the other places in Marfa, HILIH was actually open on a Wednesday afternoon. Most businesses we tried to visit were closed even though they advertised themselves as being open. This wasn't totally surprising since Marfa mostly caters to weekend visitors. Service was friendly and accommodating.

They warned me the matcha was a bit earthy and suggested adding sweetener, which I did. I always wonder if "earthy" is code for lower-quality matcha, if ceremonial matcha doesn't really need sugar, but with the sweetener it was totally fine and enjoyable. The space itself is cute and very Marfa. It's in a converted gas station that's part coffee shop, part vintage clothing store, with vintage motorcycles to keep the gas station theme going. There are only a couple of tables, and it's not really a place I felt like lingering with a book or a laptop. More of a grab-a-coffee-and-move-on kind of spot. If you're visiting Marfa and heading out to explore, it's perfect for that. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. They were attentive, brought my food to the table even though they initially said it would be window pickup, and the place is dog-friendly, very relaxed, and unpretentious. They make some excellent drinks and the staff is very friendly. The shop is in a old gas station so there is plenty of parking and places to sit inside and out. This is a very chill shop with relaxing vibes in the creative town of Marfa Texas. Marfa, by the way, is a pretty awesome place to visit :)

I had to completely reassemble it because it looked like the staff had a competition to see how far from the actual bun they could put the ingredients, while still shoving it into the carton. Breakfast was wonderful. Fresh ingredients and generous portions. Loved the West Texas omelette, with perfectly cooked hashbrowns, and bacon. My husband had the breakfast sandwich, which was equally as good! Don't when you pass through Fort Davis !
