Getting there, though, felt like stepping backward in time--partly paved roads, weathered buildings, and aging homes that quietly carry the town's long history. Then, almost abruptly, Sentinel Marfa appears as a striking contrast. The building is crisp and modernist, the kind of clean, intentional design you'd expect in a big-city neighborhood, not tucked into a rugged, historic West Texas landscape. Inside, that contrast continues. The high ceilings and open, airy layout give the space a contemporary calm, while scattered tables display local art, newspapers, and small curios that root it firmly in Marfa's creative spirit. A hallway beside the ordering counter leads to a quieter back room, which in turn opens to an outdoor area shaded by a massive oak tree. The place was buzzing, full enough that we ended up sharing a table with another family, which somehow felt fitting in a town like this. Coffee is ordered at the counter, with both staff and baristas displaying some of that West Texas charm and with a smile. Drinks are picked up at the counter while food finds its way to you. The coffee drinks are crafted with beans from Picacho Coffee Roasters. Straight coffee and lattes were exceptional, and the breakfast tacos, made fresh with fluffy eggs, cheese, and potatoes, delivered exactly what we needed. This is the place where street parking is free and the artist journey in Marfa begins. We enjoyed a proper lunch with Mexican cokes and a very relaxed vibe here. After browsing the books and wares, I picked up a few. I ordered the beef tacos, which are street style with small corn tortillas, plenty of beef, chopped onions and cilantro. The sauce was medium spicy and absolutely worth it. It is a little pricey for what I am used to, but the tacos were just perfect. We will look for this place next time we travel here. read more

I usually get a cold brew with a shot. Sentinel has the best coffee around, a chill vibe and they hustle even when they re busy. Even with a hustle, of it's busy or might be a 20 minute ordeal, so plan accordingly. They also have a delicious London Fog. I could drink that all day! Best cold brew Ive had in a while. We left our basecamp in Alpine and headed to Marfa specifically to visit Marfa Spirits. It was closed. We had heard good things about Sentinel Marfa, so we went. The inside is large and inviting. Oh, it had great air conditioning. We ordered a couple of cappuccinos and they were very good. As we were drinking our coffee we decided to look at the menu and the daily chalkboard. We ordered a steak fajita quesadilla. It was large and plenty to split. Hot and delicious. The kitchen is a small room and two ladies were busy with orders, yet very cordial. The Sentinel also serves cocktails, but we didn't try one. I highly recommend. read more

We walked through Marfa for a morning outing and walked into a taste of the old West with a coffee bar. We ordered a simple breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. It was presented beautifully on a rustic plate. The service at the coffee bar was friendly and helpful. The interesting part of the shop is that it was the location of the Sentinel Newspaper in Marfa. I always enjoy the historical aspects of a location. They are selling local art and reading material, so it's a decent place to pick something up that's unique for your friend or family member that wants something original. Before we headed out of town, I street-parked for my daily caffeine fix on 2.17.2025. The white structure has adobe-meets-bohemian vibes all the way from its decor to its airy, tall ceilings to the art supplies and other artisan gifts for sale on the oversized tables near the front entrance. When my daughter and I popped in, service was friendly albeit a bit sluggish. This would probably be one of my favorite hang outs due to a variety of seating areas including a spot for me and my mostly well-behaved canine on the small patio. This is the home of the newspaper! Well, two newspapers actually (Sentinel and Presidio). We love it here for breakfast when in town. It's a lot larger than it looks too. There is a small outdoor patio at the front door and a small seating area with table when you walk in and order at the counter. But that leads to a larger seating area off to the side and a large back patio too. The architecture is authentic adobe which just adds to the charm. The menu is as inviting as the design and architecture. Offerings include breakfast and brunch fare with a variety of coffee options, teas, cocktails, and mocktails. When I arrived there was just one barista and things were moving a bit slow but they were incredibly friendly and I didn't mind waiting as the space inside was so gorgeous! Music was indie chill and it wasn't too packed to the point where I felt uncomfortable, but just enough people vibing drinking their coffee and hanging on their laptops that made this place feel like a cozy spot to park for a bit. In the middle of their room they advertise merch for brilliant art books, t-shirts for the local newspaper, and other fun trinkets you can take home as souvenirs for family, friends, and yourself! I didn't get a chance to try any of their food since it was later in the day and their specials were out (bummer!) but their iced matcha latte was one of the best I've ever had and my husbands iced coffee was delicious. They also carry coconut milk which is a huuuuge bonus for me! If I'm ever back in Marfa, I would 100% come back here for a morning matcha and brew literally everyday. read more

You get three street style tacos. Easily the best tacos I've had in a very long time. They know how to make them. I ate them faster than I could take a picture! Luckily my wife got a pic for me! We also ordered some sandwiches. The bread was fresh and delicious. The cuts of meat aren't cheap. Arugula. Fresh. They are on the smaller side of things but they pack a flavor punch!
