Again a nightmare...the Auburn New York office. Manager and office staff rude and manager dressed in clothes that were filthy and smelled as though she was not washed and food smelled. Eating lunch at the front desk. I asked for an adjustment and was loudly addressed to the fact I was dismissed as a patient. She seemed to be really proud of the control she thought had in front of the one patient in the waiting room. Office smelled of fried food. Horrible presentation of a dental office, I left and was happy I did. I had a confirmed appointment for a simple tooth bonding repair--something I've been treated for before. Despite having an appointment, the dentist / owner Jose Alvarez refused to see me for no reason, even though I arrived on time and had clearly explained what the appointment was for when scheduling. Staff suddenly told me I had been "scheduled incorrectly" and could not be seen. I waited nearly 20 minutes to speak with a manager, who told me the dentist had simply decided he wasn't going to see me. I drove 40 minutes each way for nothing. When I returned the next day for the rescheduled appointment, the denist repaired the tooth in 5 minutes - proving the procedure was quick and straightforward. When I asked what went wrong the day before, he was extremely rude, dismissive, and offered no apology. He told me he was "busy" and dealing with walk-ins, implying that walk-ins were prioritized over a patient with a confirmed appointment. His tone and attitude were completely unprofessional and showed no regard for my time or experience. This level of disrespect and disregard for patients at this location is unacceptable. I would not recommend this office to anyone. The dentist's behavior, in particular, was shockingly unprofessional and has completely destroyed my trust in this establishment. read more

I went in to see how much it would be to get dentures. The lady doing X-rays was very kind but hard to understand. The dentist was ok . didn't really do to much. Siad hee recommendation's and I was back in the office. They actually wanted me to spend $48,000 ! I almost fainted. They couldn't get a hold of my insurance company and told me as soon as they did they would call me to see if there something less they could do. I went home and contacted my insurance co who called the office. I still as of today almost a week later have NOT heard from them. Why should I call them when they said they would call me. Beware and be ready to get SOAKED and scammed Cicero and Dewitt offices have the same dentists association and the two offices work together to bilk customers. The Dewitt office did my annual check up and suggested that I need periodontal disease treatment which would be scheduled at the Cicero office because they had no hygienist at that location. Once at the Cicero office, they said that I did not need this treatment - but charged me another $68.00 at the door and then another $38.00 "Co-Pay" for the work that they did do - scaling. The Cicero office assured me that I would be refunded the $190 by the Dewitt office.. LOLOLOL Not happening.. Of course, you cannot talk to an actual billing person, so I went through my insurance company and three times, promised a refund that would be coming. In all three phone calls, my insurance provider confirms that payments for services were covered and paid, and no co-pay was needed. .. and then I get a bill for $106. that does not even mention the fact that I had already overpaid $296.00 and the services were covered by my insurance. read more

I would give them a zero if I could. My daughter had 4 wisdom teeth removed with sedation. she went in at 5:30 out in the car at 5:53. No written instructions or extra gauze which they told her to change if it got bloody( it did)! As a nurse no written instructions for a patient that has sedation and they can't remember a thing. That is a safety issue. I have worked with both pediatric and adult surgical dental patients and with sedation you should be watched for at least 30 min. I wouldn't recommend them at all. I arrived at the office at 7am for a walk-in appointment with severe pain on one side of my mouth. Brian, the Office Manager was kind and welcoming and told me that it would be a while but they would fit me in. While the entire process did take a while, I was impressed with the service. Dr. Mercuri- having never seen me before- saw that I was in pain, and after taking one look at my x-rays she was willing to do a root canal for me on the spot so that I wouldn't be in pain, and the Assistants Lile & Danielle were wonderful throughout the process. I will definitely be going back to them from now on. read more

I went to my scheduled cleaning in May. The hygienist said I wouldn't be able to see the dentist for an exam cause she was very busy. The hygienist looks in my mouth, does some picture thing to show a 3D model on the computer and tells me I need scaling done. I asked more about it and a man was brought in to tell me my insurance will not cover it. Then suddenly the Dentist finds the time to come in for my exam and very rudely agrees I need scaling. (Cause at least they will be able to bill the insurance for that exam). I told the hygienist I would need to think about it because of the cost. I was then brought into a separate room to talk the financial side. I went home and thought that I didn't feel the scaling was needed. I called 2x for 2 days waiting for the hygienist to get back to me. I told her I just wanted a regular cleaning and she refused to do it! Saying that was against her recommendation. Now since they did an exam and no cleaning it would be difficult to go to a new dentist for just a cleaning in the near future. I recently switched dentists and told them my experience with aspen. They said I definitely didn't need scaling and my teeth were just fine I just need to focus on flossing better and not brushing so hard. The dentist and hygienist at aspen made me feel awful and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. All they are focused on is selling product and expensive procedures. read more

It will be another lifetime before I ever step into another Aspen dental office. I broke an upper denture on Sunday, The sign on Aspens door said that they would be open at 7AM Monday. I was waiting at 7 Monday morning but they were not open, I waited until 7:30 and left for breakfast. I returned to Aspen at 8:12 and the office was closed, there was a car in the parking lot but it was gone when I left. I returned home and called the number on Aspens web site for the Cicero office and was able to make an appointment for today at 11:00. I arrived at 10:30, waited for 10 Minutes for the receptionist to get off the phone, was told that she was the only one in the office today and the appointment was made by a call center and was for the 18 of August? If this is the way they run, I wonder what the teeth are like. read more

Walked in crying hysterically in excruciating pain, and the women behind the desk watched me pace around the waiting room in pain for about 5 minutes before even greeting me. And then she asked me if I had an appointment and I said "no, it says walk ins and emergencies welcome and I'm in extreme pain..." she then said she might not be able to get me in and I was so upset and in so much pain that I just left... so unprofessional... Here's front dest girls are always didn't want help instead of asking you do to a 800 treatment. They just want you to cost money to get higher salaries. Today 2/1. I come here to do a filling. The girls said my appointment was wrong and I have to pay $800 to do a treatment then do a $40 filling. I said I only want to do filling not treatment. To be honest, the online service can't login for old customers. It can only book as new customers if you don't know your account numbers as old customers you can't login. You must call for make appointment. I have been here few time. Last time I waited three hours for a thirty minute filling. The lady from front desk she didn't want to book another appointment for me. I went in for a new patient visit. I knew that I needed a general cleaning and an evaluation for one particular area that was troublesome. They took 26 xrays and did a periodontal exam. The dentist came in and told me that I needed a special cleaning, deep scaling for $1200 and my bridges removed then additional periodontal treatment if I wanted to save my teeth. She made me feel like a little child that had been bad. I explained that I had periodontal surgery in 1986 and was able to maintain the area since then.She wasn't impressed.Very poor chair side manner. I decided to get a second opinion and found out that laser surgery would be the best option for me, then a general cleaning in the future and no removal of my bridges. I am so glad I got the second opinion! read more

I first thought my trip to the dentist would be great had only heard great things. They were able to get me in with a pretty bad tooth ache! First my apt was sched for 11am they called me at 9am to tell me they would have to move it to 4pm while knowing I was in severe pain, they insisted I come in right then and so I did. I was greeted by a great young lady at the receptionist she got me all set up they then moved me to the room where I waited 20 min in pain until a dentist came in for 2 seconds and instantly said it needs to be pulled, didn't try to discuss anything or really look at it but ok I said remove it. He then waiting another 20min for nova Cain (finally not in paid)(1040am). The dentist was so rough and uncaring literally straining his muscles and shaking while yanking and digging at my jaw with his instruments. Underneath my chin is bruised from where he was holding it with extreme force. It is not even near where my pain was so now I've got pain every time I try to drink or swallow on top of the sore area from the extraction. I was then brought to pay and they tried to set up an appointment I'm assuming just for more quick money and then sent me out. Not a single prescription for Tylenol/Ibprophen, nor any anti infection medication. Very unsatisfied and painful. read more

Horrible place. Would rate it a 0 out of 5, very unprofessional (especially since I'm in the health field and can say that). My mom had an appointment here and gave them all her information and was all set weeks ago. When she walked into her appointment they go "nevermind we can't take your insurance anymore because we have too many customers with this insurance". But why would they even schedule and make my moms appointment and tell her they'd take her in the first place?? Very unprofessional. The front desk women was awful towards my mom and gave her a sarcastic "I'm sorry". Be professional and especially kind when you do that to a patient. My mom drove 30mins to even get there. I'd luckily been warned by a friend about going to Aspen, and after my new patient exam the warning turned out absolutely correct. The good - the staff were friendly, competent and quick at their jobs. If it weren't for the bad side I'd be happy to be a regular patient there. The bad - Aspen is a sales mill. They're car dealership sneaky. My friend warned me that they would try to slip in charges. Here's how it goes. The friendly dentist and assistants give you a free exam and tell you that when you come back for a cleaning, you'll "take home an electric toothbrush, special toothpaste and rinse". They avoid saying that it costs extra. They put a screen in front of your chair so you can see your x-rays, but also so you can see any alarming things about your teeth being typed in to help upsell the products. Then you wait, half an hour in my case, for the office manager to schedule your appointment and sign your bill. This is where it gets car dealership. (Watch the small similarities - a professionally dressed person takes you to an isolated office full of "relax-triggers", thank you cards from satisfied customers, photos of the salesperson's family that face only towards the customer, not the salesperson. This office had the thank you cards.) First, I was shown only the total of the charges and was asked to sign and if I wanted to put anything down. I asked how much the toothbrush was that the assistant had mentioned. She said $150. I was expecting this from my friend's warning and asked to have it removed. She agreed easily, then tore the overview bill in half with a barely concealed look of irritation. It's an unsubtle tactic designed to put the patient off of asking to have the bill changed again. I asked for an itemized bill, and watched her carefully tell me I had to sign first before she could print it, which is preposterous. Trying to lock you in before you can see the charges, right? Her computer screen is kept turned away just enough so you can't see what's being done. I hadn't given my credit card and already said I wouldn't pay until the actual cleaning, so I figured sure, why not. I signed, looked over the bill, and spotted the $30 stannous rinse (mouthwash) and $29 neutral sodium gel (toothpaste). Also, they'd showed me the same pamphlet twice about oral cancer screenings but never asked if I wanted it - sure enough, $70 oral cancer screening on the bill. I also noted that the toothbrush and rinse come entirely out of Patient Responsibility, not insurance. At this point I knew I'd never be coming back so I said nothing and left. In short, insist on seeing your bill before you sign or give any payment, because they will try hard to sneak about $279 of unnecessary extras into your upfront payment. I went in because I had a cracked tooth that was painful and I knew that I needed a crown. On my first appointment, the dentist made a mold of my cracked tooth then ground the original tooth down to a nub and put on a temporary cap. She was very high strung and made me extremely nervous (too much caffeine?). The temporary cap fell out that evening. Three weeks later, on the second appointment, the dentist tried to force a crown that would not fit and she had to pry it back off which was painful. She sent the crown out to be fixed. I had to live with a temporary crown, that kept falling out, for another three weeks. The crown still did not fit on my third appointment. She gave me a shot of Novocaine and left the room to work on someone else. When she returned, she started grinding the tooth behind my originally cracked tooth. It hurt like hell. The Novocaine had worn off and and she got mad and gave me another shot. She ground away one half of the tooth behind it to make room (it was a perfectly sound tooth). The new crown still would not seat properly, so she started grinding on the new crown. Finally, after sitting in the chair for just over three hours, she was able to force the crown on. Today, the crown feels awkward in my mouth and it doesn't line up with the opposing teeth. I will NEVER return to Aspen Dental. read more

A couple of years ago I had Aspen Dental make me a partial plate. It was such a poor job that it wouldn't even begin to fit in my mouth. They made me another one made of plastic and I was able to use it for 6 months or so and it broke. It took them almost two weeks to repair it and wanted a lot of money to fix it. I told them that they could keep it as it was just going to do it again as the quality of the plate was of such poor quality. They agreed to make me another one of stainless. I had to go back for an adjustment which is expected. The dentist that did the adjustment was so incompetent that I never went back. I was so fed up with them and thought that I had lost my money. I started using my old plate that was made in 1972. Thats right, over 40 years old. I used that plate for 1-2 years and it started to cut my mouth because it was so worn. I started to wear the plate from Aspen Dental. I went to the dentist that I am now seeing and he adjusted it up for me. I used it for less then 6 months and the two front teeth broke off. l was just amazed about that because it was made of stainless steel. But the spot where the teeth are connected to the plate was so thin I am surprised that it lasted that long. You could tell that the plate hadn't been used long because the dull look to it had hardly shined up from the cleanings. So I took it back to Aspen Dental totally expecting it to be repaired free of charge. I told them what I had come for and the girl at the front desk said I had finally filled it out and after close to an hour I was called in. They said that I had to fill out the forms for insurance and allergies etc. At her incidence I filled it out. I had to have x-rays. Again I told them what I was there for. In order to go forward I had to have the x-rays. After a long wait in the dental cubical a dentist came in and I told her what I was there for and she said that if they fixed it would I come back? I told her that the reason that I had left was because of incompetence. The nurse came back in and said that it was going to cost $158.00 to fix it. And I would have to come back every few months and get it fixed again and again. It was another botched job on their part and they didn't want to make it right. The stainless was so thin that they couldn't have fixed it for that little money. I left my broken plate with them. I would never have another use for it. I will never go back to them. And I will try to tell as many people about them as I can. read more
