Sara did an outstanding job on cleaning my teeth. She took her time and gave great feedback.

Even though I was having all of my upper teeth removed, it was hands down the best dental visit I've ever had. Everyone spoke gently and worked to get me a treatment plan that worked with my budget but would get me out of pain. Dr. Scioscia called me personally that evening to check on me. Highly recommend this office and looking forward to finishing this work up with them in the future!

I ended up with necrotic jawbone on antibiotics for five months. This oral surgeon felt there was no need to prescribe antibiotics before extraction, explained the situation I experienced several years ago and he just brushed it off. Said he would do an antibiotic wash after the removal. Refused to acknowledge my concerns and my past history, so I refused to acknowledge that he knew what he was doing. I then made the appointment to go back into the low country and have extracted the right way with antibiotics. I would never return to this place and I certainly would never recommend it. I would recommend turning running and never looking back. Find another place this is not the one you want. And yes they still gave me an exuberant bill of $230 for one x-ray and a four minute conversation. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere. It is worth the drive to find an oral surgeon that will listen to you, address your concerns and do so without barking at you. I was made to feel like a POS he even went so far I asked to say I did not know what I was talking about so I should leave it to the professionals. I just left and they will never see me again. Be careful how you proceed if you continue using this place

Dr. Nimmich, staff, and, facilities were awesome. We have visited both locations for services since then. The location on Two Notch was our first experience, the location in Camden our second. Both were great, and did not disappoint. Thank you for being who you are, and for what you do with such professionalism, and kindness.

Then we were called back. I was told that I needed a panoramic X-ray and I forgot to stop by our dentist so my son could get one so we got one here which was an extra fee, no biggie. The surgeon came in and was very thorough and explained the whole process and what would be the expectation on the day of surgery and so on. We were asked if we had questions and once we were done, we went back to the front. Now here is where my frustration comes in. We get called back to schedule the surgery, only to be told that they were not in network and I would be paying out of pocket. Now if you had my insurance info for a week, I'm sure you checked to make sure you were getting paid and that it was valid. So why not tell me that you weren't in network? That ticked me off. I took time off work only to not even be moving forward with his surgery. So I paid and dipped! Some places are just getting ridiculous. If I'm scheduling with you and you see I'm not covered, let me know so I can find another provider of the service....not pay you for monies for nothing.

Staff is very helpful and courteous! I have a pre-existing condition and Dr. McGinnis took care to take all of that into consideration (risk of infection, healing, etc.). He easily started an IV on my hand without a SINGLE issue... I have a Bard Power Port on my upper chest wall because my veins on my arms and hands are so tiny and thready (it's hereditary, but some have become damaged due to IV infiltration in the past). The fact that Dr. Michael McGinnis is a former Army Combat Medic is obvious for someone like me who had always needed the Life-Flight Trauma Team or Anesthesiology at Duke University to start IV's on me when my medi-port could not be used for surgery. It took him less than 3 minutes to start the IV, and before I knew it, I was asleep. The cost of wisdom tooth extraction is ridiculous in the industry. However, I'm very happy I chose this office and Dr. McGinnis. I had to pay out-of-pocket (Care Credit account and cash deposit to secure surgery date) because the pain became unbearable, and I couldn't wait for my insurance to approve me seeing Dr. Marks on Alice Drive. They were extremely busy anyway, and told me it would be 4 weeks before Dr. Marks could even see me in a consult for surgery/extraction. That was not going to fly. I could not see straight at times and drive the pain was so horrendous. Far worse than labor pain! My vision would begin to blur when the pain would strike at its worst. I went in on a Monday to have my consult with Dr. McGinnis. Went to Duke on Tuesday to get transfused/apheresis to prevent any issues due to blood loss/anesthesia due to my health history. Thursday morning, those bad wisdom teeth were out! I healed with no issues whatsoever. Care recommendations from the staff were easy to understand, and worked just fine. He did not suture my gums, which was wise since I did have a cavity in one wisdom tooth, and the other has broken off on one side. Gums and bone healed from inside out. Thanks so much to the team at Sumter Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
