Went to this location last year and had an okay experience. I went this year for my cleaning and was told they changed policies and my insurance was now considered an out of network provider and I needed to pay upfront and then get reimbursed from my insurance. This info was not told to me any at the beginning of the year when their policy changed or when the appointment was confirmed...they also asked me to come in earlier and never told me any of this. They wanted me to pay $400 upfront which was something I couldn't do, so I left and took off work for nothing! Would not recommend this place. read more

Last Tuesday, August 19th, I had a full mouth extraction! Im 74, and have Always been so afraid of Dentists, but all my teeth were broken & falling apart from years of antibiotics (Lyme Disease) EVERYONE IN this Office are Friendly, Understanding & Patient. They all smile & say hello to everyone. I had anxiety & fear when I went in, but they talked to me as they were preping me. It was done in about an hour, I came out with my plates already in. I had pain the day of Surgery, the next day I started to feel so much better. Now, a week & 1/2 later, I feel so very good, I'm looking forward to eating the foods I couldn't with my nasty teeth, Especially my Salads. I LOVE this office, I'm not afraid to go in anymore. I just received a surprise bill from this place for x-rays that I thought would be covered by my insurance. When I called them and said I had a question, the woman proceeded to look me up and dismissively told me she'll resubmit to my insurance company. I repeated that I said I had a question and she told me I had said I have a balance. So I asked why they can know upfront during that visit that fluoride and cancer screening won't be covered by my insurance and can provide a quote but can't figure which, if any, x-rays would be covered. She told me that they have no way of knowing until they bill for the x-rays and that the customer needs to tell them upfront if they usually have x-rays somewhere else. Funny, because the previous dentist I went to knew not to do a full-mouth x-ray. This place is such a scam. Other notes: During the intro visit, the dentist came in for 30 seconds, put his gloves on and touched everything in the room before putting his hands in my mouth. Then left. During the cleaning, the hygienist skipped around all over my mouth and it felt like she didn't hit all of my teeth. Then when she went to floss, she flossed six teeth total. When she couldn't get the floss between some of my teeth, she just moved on to the next one. I would never recommend this place. read more

How bad can they be? I went there for an emergency tooth distraction.. they ignored the problem tooth, took X-rays of my entire mouth, then told me to come back in 2 weeks for a 2nd exam with a specialist. I refused, said I'd find another emergency dentist, and I left. Aspen Dental charged me an outrageous fee for the exam and unnecessary X-rays. It's a SCAM! They tried to bill my insurance, got denied, now they are coming after me. They've already hit my credit rating and they've given my account to a debt collector. This is the worst place ever! I had a massive infection in all my front bottom teeth and they gave me amoxicillin and come back in a week and we will pull the bad tooth. By day 3 of the antibiotics, I was in agony; I've never felt this much pain in my life! When I called and asked them to call something in for pain, they flatly refused. This is an acute situation which would call for a narcotic, no more than 10. This would be reasonable and compassionate, but they chose to let me suffer. Here's the kicker.....when I returned to get the tooth out, the same dentist, Stanley Chan, says to me ' sorry, im not an oral surgeon, I can't take it out'. Are you kidding me????? They also hold an $500 credit of mine that they refuse to return. CRIMINALS!! Already filed a complaint with the Board against this Chan for failure to treat, neglect and unnecessary pain and anguish. Oh boy! I went to this dentist for a couple of years. I reqlly liked the dentist but she did do shoddy work. I had a number of fillings that were too rough, so they kept falling out when I glossed. I have the fillings , as they came out in one piece. It's ultra clear that theu are too rough. I went back to have them filled and the dentist was going to charge me . I went back today, after speaking with the corporate office. I recorded both the conversations with the corporate lady and the dentist today. The dentist - who like others have stated is super rude- wanted me to get a crown on a specific tooth. What he doesn't know I'd I already went to the specialist who said it is absolutely not necessary! He was very upset and was no longer interested in treating me. The issue is that these dentists can not get Jobs anywhere else. I woukd have zero issue with paying for something that makes sense. As far as the fillings being too rough, there is one that still exists in close proximity and is reqlly rough. He was going to smooth it as a "courtesy:. Came in an waited 20 minutes before they told me my appointment was cancelled because I had not confirmed it. However I called that morning to confirm myself since they never called me and I was told that yes I was now confirmed for my 3:30 appointment. They said that was a corporate confirmation and doesn't count. Then they said I should have confirmed via text but I didnt get a text from them and I showed them my phone. Then they offered me an appointment weeks away instead of solving the issue appropriately. Gives me little confidence in this business so I won't be back. read more

Being afraid of needles aka terrified i live in fear of the dentist. So after much avoidance I finally went and had two cavities to be filled. The staff was awesome. My dentist was the nicest man and I didn't feel a thing. His assistant was so soothing and sweet and calming. They seem to take most insurances and it's always fast. I have been there four times this year ( broke a tooth on kettle chips) and each time they take me and I'm in and out very quick. They also have Saturday appointments and late night ones If you have to work. If you need a new dentist they are the place to go. read more

I will concur with a few of the below reviews where it seemed like Aspen recommended unnecessary work. I haven't been to the dentist in a few years, so I decided to pop in for a cleaning since it was close to work. Mind you, I haven't had any issues with my teeth. I went in for the initial consultation and then bizarrely had the same visit with the office manager where they outlined my very expensive treatment plan. Ok sure I naively thought, they're professionals right? I got the deep cleaning done which admittedly was probably needed. I supposedly had four cavities so made appointments to get them filled. Again my teeth felt perfectly fine. After getting the second cavity refilled, that tooth has been in some serious pain for the last month or so. All they can do is recommend me to one of their partners to do a root canal? No thanks. I will never be back and I would not recommend these guys to anyone. read more

I visited Aspen Dental in Johnston for what I thought would be a cleaning. Upon arrival they said we would first do an exam than schedule a cleaning for a later date, which is understandable. The nurse who took my x-rays and the dental hygienist were great. Both women were extremely kind and listened to my needs. They shared feedback and treatment plans. Then the Doctor Roumiana Kardzhieva arrived and the visit quickly took a turn. She was extremely rude and was not listening to my concerns. Dr. Kardzhieva began questioning who brought me to the dentist. I found this bizarre as I'm as 24 year old adult. She then demanded multiple times to speak with my mother. I, and the nurse, explained to her that I am 24 years old. She combatted that with "Well, you look 13." The negative treatment continued until she left the room. From there I was taken to chat with the office manager to schedule my next appointment and review the costs. I have full coverage dental insurance and the office manager explained to me it would cost nearly $2000 out of pocket for my next appointment. After checking with my insurance upon leaving, I found all these procedures are actually covered. I have never felt so disrespected and unheard by a medical doctor. I will not be returning and would not recommend this location under any circumstances. read more

Butcher shoppe SO I like many other people have a fear of the dentist. I have not been in YEARS. One morning I woke up to awful pain from a wisdom tooth growing in. I'm fairly new to Rhode Island and wasn't sure where to go that accepted my insurance. I thought "sure why not?". Turns out I had an infected, impacted wisdom tooth so I went on antibiotics and scheduled a date to get my wisdom teeth out. They quoted me about $5000 AFTER insurance to which I laughed and said "yeah no way in hell". After all that we knocked it down to $150. First experience I thought, "ok not so bad". Oh but it got bad. The day of my extraction a week later, everything seemed rushed and poorly explained. I left in a ton of pain and confused. Picked up my meds and passed out. Was a little confused that I didn't have an antibiotic. The next three days were excruciating and I didn't sleep. I figured this was normal. Finally I broke and showed up as soon as they opened in tears and I was treated like a pain in the ass and that I was looking for drugs or something. They flushed my incisions and refilled my Vicodin (which I pleaded did absolutely nothing for the pain I was in) and a new antibiotic. I felt fine for a couple of hours and then I was in the worst pain yet. I flushed my teeth with the syringe they provided and two gnarly brown and white chunks flew out along with my sutures. I debated whether I should tough it out till Morning or go to the ER. I foolishly waited until morning because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment. Called instead of showing up because honestly I was in no shape to drive. Was dismissed and told I shouldn't need anything stronger and that I'd have to talk to the other doctor who was at another location in which I haven't been to. Called the other location and he wasn't there yet. Called again was told I'd have to go to the hospital if I wanted some stronger painkillers. I explained that I was in a ton of pain and things were falling out of my head. This went back and forth between two offices for awhile. Finally I got a doctors note for work and was so frustrated at being treated like I was insane I opted to go to urgent care. read more

I have never written a single review anywhere but I feel this place deserved all the negative attention I have to offer. Piggybacking off of the other reviews I have to say this is the most sheisty, unethical business going. Like, is this a commission based job where the receptionists make money through trickery and deception on patients? If you are not careful and question your 400 dollar cleaning before it happens, you will be robbed, period. A few years back I went here and got completely hosed when they added in their $130 toothbrush they do not tell you about along with their $40 mouth rinses. I was foolish enough to go back because one was local, I had move and it was Convenient, shame on me. When I tried to set up my cleaning, mind you I am covered through top notch insurance, 2 free cleanings a year they stated I needed a mandatory x ray which was fine. After I got the xray the doctor stated I was fine to get my basic cleaning. When I went to the receptionist it was the same aspen dental song and dance. " Well, your cleaning is going to be $1000 but after insurance it's only $442" ... Not sure why a cleaning was that expensive so I started asking where the charges came from "doctor recommended deep scaling on a this and that area" Which was never mentioned. "Oh we added in another $130 toothbrush" after I had them strip away all their junk it was still 136 so I just got up and left. When your insured for 2 free cleanings a year they're free you pay nothing. This place takes advantage of young adults and people that just don't know any better, they are truly the worst of the worst and win the gold medal for dishonesty. They did it again, this time they charge me more again, I just went for a cleaning I have 113.00 credits on my aspen account at least that's what they told me over the phone before my appointment now going to sit with the girl in the office, she tells me my balance is 150.00 I said OK use my insurance, which went through and my insurance pick up 67.20 and I used my credit to pay the rest which is 36.00 all of a sudden she charges me a the full balance and said that I owe them 150.00 and that's due right now. So I went and call my insurance and they told me everything I don't owe aspen nothing I have a credit balance of 45.00 with them. Then within a few days I get a phone call from them telling me about a balance that's due which is 36.00 dollars and then i ask her what is she talking about "then she tells me that they have to call me back to look up my profile" then they call back and a different person which is she said she's the office manager comes on and starts up about Cigna plan I said huh then all of as-sudden she starts bringing, up about a Cigna discount I had on my account which expired 3years ago which i asked them to delete because Im no longer with that discount company then "she say's well they were giving me discounts" and i told her noway, because I never renewed that card again and I told them this right when it expired. And I don't know what that has to do with my treatment for last month its like she starts going into things that has nothing to do with my balance, "oh we spoken to you about can't use my Cigna plan oh that's expired, oh we spoke about this already," which I don't seem to remember then she goes on and on "well listen OK. Well, you never made any payments oh we don't have any payments on file oh you don't have a credit with us, oh we don't remember taking BcBsri oh we been thru this."I have my statement here with me proving that I have a credit balance of 113.00 I am waiting for my next statement showing that I made my payments and now someone else comes on and another story comes about my pass cleanings from 2010 so i said ok. So i made a quick call to the headquarters and told them situation and they said ok i don't owe them anything they owe me. Need a new dentist because this is bogus to me. What dentist office has that stupid care credit policy that charge the minimum balance of 200.00. The thing im going to miss is here is the bag that she packs with toothbrushes their toothbrushes are nice and soft. Well i called the headquarters back a few days and they told me they put a credit back on my care credit account great that's one thing about aspen headquarters they always gave me a refund when they make a mistake or error problem solved. read more

I went in as a patient for a free initial consultation as I did not have insurance. The price they quoted me was $3500. Three cavities and gum disease. After going through a box of tissues and picking myself off the floor I left in shock. Upon advice of a friend I went to a second dentist for a second opinion. The gum disease is negligible and just needs monitoring. $500 for the three cavities. They are out to get your wallet. At the very least, get a second opinion. read more

Dr. Luu is so personable and really puts you at ease, and I refuse to go anywhere else because Meghan is the best dental hygenist around! She is the sweetest thing and is so thorough. I have never liked going to the dentist before and always had anxiety about it, but I actually look forward to going in to see everyone. I would recommend this location to anyone! read more

I had a bad tooth pain and went for an examination. They did a complete X-Ray and ended up with frightening me more with more cavities and root canals than I could imagein and a huge estimate. The only cheaper option was to pull out all my teeth. They did not come up with a suitable solution to fix my pain for which I had come in the first place. Do not go here. They try to scam you and tell you that you need a bunch of special toothbrushes, products and treatment that you don't need. The office manager (with no dental experience) tells you that you need it for your treatment plan. It was not optional. The Dental Hygentist, nor the dentist that I saw for 3 minutes said anything about it. Very unethical. Look up Aspen Dental unethical practices on PBS Newshour or google it. Go somewhere ethical. I had 2 teeth that needed to pulled,one was causing me really bad pain and giving me headaches.Now remember what im saying, i get called in the hyentits checks me put first, she says i need a deep cleaning and not a regular one,i was ok thank you.Second i see the dentists,he checks me out and says the teeth need to be pulled.. So i go back to waiting room figuring out they are going to get me sey up to pull my teeth. I get called out back again,but only this time to talk about a plan for my teeth,im saying to my self the only plan i have is pulling that one tooth that is causing me pain.So he asked if i want to be knocked out for my tooth pull I'm like no just novocaine. Then he tells its going to 2736.30 for everything i need done, that's with insurance mind you, without 8844.Now i didn't ask them for anything i just asked them why my mouth hurt and i wanted to pull that tooth. The office manager said to me they will not pull my tooth unless i have the deep clean now that's 2200 just by its self,i asked them to do a regular clean cuz my insurance paid for it, he was NOPE we Can't.. I truly hope that this message doesn't go unnoticed! I was with my mother yesterday at an appointment to have her tooth extracted by dr Lee. My mother was nervous from the procedure as it is, when we walked in both nurses were very nice however when the dr came in he was very unpleasant and ended up being extremely rude! He gave my mother the Novocaine and my mom kept telling him that she still is feeling pain. He proceeded to extract her tooth even though she repeatedly told him that her tooth is hurting. He through the tools from his hands on several different occasions and gave her more Novocaine. Finally after drilling her tooth he proceeded with the extraction and my mom raised her hand with tears in her eyes and said "dr it really hurts, why don't you believe me?" He threw his tools again and put a stitch in my mother's mouth while showing to compassion or care and stormed out of the room while saying, "she needs to put to sleep during the procedure" I have been to several dentists and had wisdom teeth extracted and my doctors were very compassionate. My mom chose Aspen dental because that's what her insurance covers! You are supposed to be a reputable practice and unfortunately this was an awful experience. Doctors are supposed to be compassionate and gentle because you are dealing with people on a very intimate level! This is absolutely horrible, my mom left asking "what about my tooth, am I going to be able to function with it in pieces?" He didn't even take the time to explain to her the situation!!!! In my opinion I've seen veterinarians that treat animals better than Dr Lee treated my mother. She is paying for a service and if it wasn't for people like my mother Dr Lee would not be in business. If he doesn't know how to treat people then he should find a new profession, maybe shuffling paper behind a desk in a cubicle away from human contact. Thank you for the disservice! read more

Well this place is just awful! I have a broken filling and my regular dentis unfortunately couldn't schedule me in right away (they did say they'll call me as soon as ye get a cancellation) now a broken filling isn't the end of the world. It this one has been really sensitive and last night it REALLY hurt! So worried, I called and scheduled an emergency appointment with aspen. They said I could come in at 1245pm today. At 810am I got a call saying they double booked the 1245 and couldn't fit me in but if I got in before 9 I could be seen. Frantic I rushed over. They got me x rays and the tech said they'd do an exam and fix my filling. They did the exam and the women who checked my gums said he Doctor would be in to check my teeth and fix my filling.mthe Doctor came in checked my teeth and said I had to go through billing then he'd fix my filling. I went to billing paid for the work that was going to be done and then the kind woman in billing said she had to schedule me for two appointments to fix my broken filling and a cleaning. I said I was very much under the impression that I would be seen today hen the rush appointment. Full disclosure I was stressed from lack of sleep and pain and I started to become overwhelmed and raised my voice in upset panic that I had just paid over $200 and would not have my tooth repaired. The woman in billing was very kind, but Dr. Luu thought it was appropriate to come in and reprimand me for raising my voice telling me I was behaving inappropriately and that my tooth was not a "major concern" Fair enough perhaps raising my voice was inappropriate, but telling a patient her issue would be addressed taking her money and not fixing it is FAR more inappropriate! Perhaps my tooth wasn't a major concern to him, but it certainly was to me! Being in pain and all! After slightly more shouting, I calmed my hysterics enough to apologize to the lovely woman in billing whose name I unfortunately do not remember off the top of my head. She promised to refund my money for the future appointments that I had already paid for, and she promised my insurance would not be billed (especially since they were going to bill my insurance despite advertising a new patients free x-rays and exam deal). To that poor woman I am sorry, as long as my insurance doesn't get billed (I'll have to check Monday because the help line is closed weekends) she put up with my upset and was wonderful for which I am thankful. Dr. Luu however was disinterested and just awful. I went out to my car and balled my eyes out. Wasted morning, stress, and my tooth is STILL in pain... Wish I had read the reviews here ahead of time!
