Lots here that is good including the team of dentists and techs. The problem is that this office is owned by an evil venture capitalist group. This appears to be responsible for the emphasis on squeezing every last nickel out of the patient. Read the contract and look out for a "complementary" set of dental tools. You will be charged $200 for this. The products are low-level and not worth $200. For a healthcare provider to sneak in charges like this is reprehensible. I went in to get my crown fixed for the third time! I should advise my root canal was done by another office. I was mortified because it was one of my front teeth. Dr. Kirk and staff were amazing with not only the care I received but my emotions and dignity! Dr. Kirk and the staff spent so much time with me that the doctor clearly did not have making sure I understood all my options and answered all my questions, I ended up having it extracted and with plenty of tears and embarrassment Dr. Kirk and his team made sure I left that office not feeling that way anymore! Kingston NY Office was dirty and I could not imagine having a cleaning or cavity fill in a filthy environment. I just had xrays and left. A vacuum hose on the floor was encrusted with dust, marks on walls and floors, yuck. For my next appointment they said it would cost 2,400$, or 1200 once my insurance was applied. I am very disappointed with Aspen Dental Kingston. IThe Kingston Aspen it appears is only interested in getting patients committed to their practice but not providing care when it is needed. went there because I had a bad toothache and they advertise "Emergency Services" and walk-ins. I was given an emergency appointment quickly. I explained my problem and that I did not have insurance and asked for only the problem tooth to be x-rayed. They charged me $190 for 2 x-rays of one tooth and I was seen by a dentist. I was then told that no one could fix the broken filling for 3 weeks! That is not emergency treatment. I am unable to eat. I was told I could see an Aspen dentist anywhere and that a dentist at another location could use that x-ray. I called an Aspen location in Charlotte, NC. They were very nice and spent a long time reviewing my x-ray. The dentist there said the x-ray was blurry, poorly done, and that he could not treat my tooth off the x-ray and suggested I call the original Aspen to get another x-ray. I called the Kingston Aspen as instructed. The Kingston Aspen said the x-ray was fine and refused to help me. Booked a cleaning- 1st visit they did just patient intake and did not clean my teeth. 2nd visit they picked and scraped at my teeth but did not want to polish until my next (3rd visit). With some push back on my part, they offered to polish my teeth on the 2nd visit but the hygienist really did not take her time or do a quality job with that part of the visit. Also, the layout is like an auto shop, no private exam room for your cleaning. Run away as fast as you can. This place just wants as many visits and dollars it can squeeze from you. Do not go to Aspin Dental. SCAM!! They call to confirm my appointment and said I was scheduled for a cleaning. I explained I was not. I have a small chip with a small sharp point I need filed. They accused me of booking a cleaning online and trying to LIE!!!! I was like whoa back up, I called and booked with a person on the phone! She told me they'll do a cleaning and X-rays and I'll need a new appointment for the chip. I said my appointment is for the chip. She hung up on me! I call back and ask for a manager, I was told I was speaking with one (yeah right, like the manager answers the phones, but ok) I explained the situation to her. She accuses me of trying to get services I didn't book online. I told her that's not true and explained I called and booked with a person and explained to that person I need an urgent appointment for a small chip that has a point poking me. He even asked if I was bleeding when I made the appointment so I know he understood me. The "manager" tells me the crack could be down to the root (to which I told her it's definitely not, it's small at the top, but she won't allow me to speak at this point) and said that they will do X-rays and see if the dr has time to do anything because this was booked as a cleaning, but won't guarantee anything, I'll probably need a new appointment. Then said I'll have to pay for both appointments. I said that's not my fault. I explained I needed to be urgently seen for a chip and a sharp bit poking my tongue when I booked. She. Starts. Talking. To. Me. Like. This.! When I tell her I'm not an idiot and don't talk to me like that she tells me she's an educated professional?!?!!??!?!! I told her I'm likely more educated than her and I need a new manager. She said she won't be spoken to like that. I said that's fine, get me another manager. She hung up. read more

Dentist and hygienist did not discuss with me price points. After the visit a finance person showed me the plan for next steps with many billing codes and extra fancy procedures that my insurance does not pay for. Made it seem like this was standard. I have an extremely expensive high coverage dental plan but they tried to tell me I'd need to pay 400 dollars for a cleaning so they can use lasers and fancy mouthwashes. Claimed it was necessary. When I asked for my X-rays to get a second opinion they sent me thumbnails in one picture which obviously another dentist cannot use to fill a cavity and did not respond to my email to get the actual files. I see online now that there has been a class action lawsuit against aspen for overcharging patients. Do not go here. read more

Two stars because Dr. Kirk seems adequate, even if he is incredibly overworked. I hope he does his time and gets out to start his own practice. I had a wonderful small practice doctor who then decided to stop taking insurance, and then I ended up with a dental emergency and this place is basically the only thing with appointments that aren't weeks out. For a reason, as we will see. So this place is very much an assembly line. Twice in 3 appointments someone came in to ask Dr. Kirk if he could do something extra, like file down a crown on another patient, in front of me. Dr. Kirk was kinda sighing, saying couldn't the other dr do it, ok never mind I'll do it in a while. He's always dashing around and looks harried. But he does focus and do his best. I had an immunosuppressive condition and developed mild gingivitis, so they wanted a deep cleaning done before a crown. Fine, but the hygienist is very rushed and rough. They started my appointment 10 mins late and ended early, so the whole mouth was done in less than 15 mins. For this my very good insurance didn't cover so I paid out of pocket almost $150. Didn't take any pocket measurements or anything like that. I would've had to go back for the second part, which the hygienist said is just a regular cleaning, but I'm sure they will charge that like part 2 of deep cleaning. No thanks, I'll go elsewhere where I'm not treated like a cog on an assembly line. And after all that, there is a nice young lady who is centrally located to catch you on your way out, make sure you've paid, and publicly discuss your moral failings as reflected in your cavity ridden mouth. But seriously, it is very uncomfortable talking about your teeth and ability to pay basically in front of the whole office. I hate going here but since I'm in for a penny in for a pound with this yet unfinished crown, I'll go back once more but then never again. read more

My wife was told on Friday morning that they covered her insurance. She was scheduled to come in for an emergency visit, due to pain. Monday morning she arrived to be told, no they do not cover her insurance. The mistake in the insurance was bad enough. But the rudeness of the women receptionist was unforgiving. I had an emergency over the weekend with a periodontal abscess and started calling around for dentists in Kingston, New York first thing Monday morning when I stumbled upon Aspen Dental on Ulster Avenue. I was hoping to get an appointment for later on Monday but the soonest they could see me was Tuesday afternoon at 2:15pm. I was in quite a lot of pain but they were close to my home so I decided to gut it out and wait until the following day. The pain overnight was pretty intense and though I didn't sleep a wink I started feeling hopeful when the sun came up. I began watching the minutes tick by leading to my appointment. Then I received a called from Aspen Dental at 12:45pm (an hour and a half before my appointment) informing me that they had some kind of "office emergency" and one of their dentists had to leave so they wouldn't be able to fit me in after all. I know they have a dozen dentists at this practice and since I had an emergency I asked if it might be possible to shuffle things around a bit and slip me in somewhere, but Aspen insisted there was no way to make it work. I was very frustrated but decided I would just have to gut out the pain and fever one more day -- and that was when the Aspen receptionist explained that they wouldn't be able to see me until almost four weeks later. I was stunned and thought she must be kidding because she knew I had a periodontal abscess. Turns out she was serious. I asked to speak to the office manager and Christine got on the phone and confirmed that they couldn't see me for another month. I was absolutely flabbergasted, and it made me realize that having to cancel my appointment had nothing to do with their "office emergency." If it had, they have multiple dentists and would have fit me in the following day. Every dentist office has occasional emergencies and is accustomed to juggling things to make room, but pushing me off for a month made clear that the emergency was merely an excuse to dump me because a new patient didn't fit into their schedule. I politely asked Christine is she thought her practice was providing good customer service and she said something rather cold that effectively meant "it is what it is." I calmly explained to Christine that if they couldn't accommodate me in the first place it was unethical to confirm the appointment when they knew it was an emergency because I wasted more than 24 hours when I could have been looking for another dentist. Instead I lay in bed sweating and suffering and counting the minutes until I obtained relief at Aspen. I reminded her that I was in terrible pain and the infection in my tooth was causing serious fever and chills and I suggested that once Aspen made the initial appointment they have an obligation to see it through to an appropriate resolution. Christine was unmoved and hung up. It took me a little bit to figure out what happened, but here it is: Aspen Dental is a corporate chain with headquarters in Saracuse, New York. When you call you are connected to a corporate call center of well trained telephone representatives who are professional, appropriate, and courteous. They don't work in the Kingston office but they make the appointments. When I told them I had a periodontal abscess they accessed the schedule and offered me an emergency slot for the following day. But at some point on Tuesday the local office manager in Kingston, Christine, got looking at their schedule, realized they were overbooked for the day, and decided my appointment was the easiest to discard -- even though it was for an emergency condition. Talk about not caring for human beings! But even if Christine had to make that decision, surely she could have figured it out first thing in the morning and not an hour and a half before my appointment. I wonder how unhappy and overwhelmed you have to be in your job as a "helping professional" to decide you don't want to "help" someone in significant need. An abscess is a serious medical/dental condition that should be treated immediately but Christine and Aspen Dental didn't seem to care. I guess when I was looking for dentists I should have looked at the Yelp reviews first, but I wasn't feeling well and just made the appointment. If I had looked and seen the poor reviews for Aspen, I would have kept looking. Now that I see the number of negative reviews, I guess I feel fortunate it didn't work out. Instead I found a local dentist who immediately recognized the severity of my condition and offered to fit me in the same day, about three hours later. I don't know who he moved or delayed or inconvenienced to squeeze me in but he immediately demonstrated concern for a complete stranger and restored my faith in (dental) humanity. In closing, I can't say enough about how fortunate I am that I managed to dodge a bullet and avoid Aspen Dental. If this is how they treat new patients with emergencies I can only assume everything they do is substandard. read more

This is a warning not to go there. My insurance pays for exam, cleaning and X-rays twice a year. They said they accepted my insurance but I couldn't get a cleaning until I had an exam and X-ray. They said I could make an appointment for a cleaning after that. After the exam and X-rays they told me I needed a deep cleaning but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Along with the deep cleaning I also had a one cavity under a crown. They told me it would all cost $4,000 and refused to give me a regular cleaning that my insurance covered. They are liars! SCAM ALERT! SCAM ALERT! SCAM ALERT! I went to Aspen Dental for a standard check-up / cleaning. I got my x-rays and was examined by a dentist who told me I had no cavities and everything looked good. He said there was some very minor bone loss, but nothing to sound the alarm about. He told me I just needed to keep coming in every 6 months for a cleaning and I should be fine. THEN, he turned me over to his hygienist. She checked the depth of the pockets around my teeth, which she mostly measured as 3-4mm, with a couple 5mm thrown in. I was then taken to the payment desk to review my suggested treatment plan. Well, I nearly fell out of my chair when I was told that due to the deep pockets around my teeth, I needed a $2450 scaling and root planing procedure, totally not covered by my insurance. I asked for a standard cleaning that would be covered in the meantime, as there was no way I could afford $2450 right now, and was refused that service. They then pushed their financing plan, which is very predatory with high interest rates, multiple times. I walked out. You can ALWAYS walk out when things don't feel right. If you do some simple googling (as I should have before my appointment), you will see Aspen Dental is owned by private equity whose job is to maximize profit, not care for patients. They're under investigation for their deceptive practices which is easily searchable online. The very next day I went to Kingston Dental, right across the street from Aspen. And what do you know, they measured the pockets around my teeth as 2-3mm across the board, which is perfectly healthy and requires no deep cleaning whatsoever. They gave me the standard cleaning and a clean bill of dental health that same day. I showed them the estimate from Aspen and they were literally laughing out loud. The dentist made a copy of it so he could show everyone in the office what NOT to do. He praised my scam detection and asked me if I'd accompany him to his mechanic. He told me to go on a vacation and enjoy myself with the $2450 I would have spent at Aspen Dental. Aspen Dental is predatory and corporate and should be avoided at all costs. read more

So I called the number on the door. I was told that my insurance wasn't taken but I can come in and get a cleaning. But then when I came in after the x-rays let them know that I needed antibiotics before treatment. They said they would not be able to do the cleaning because it'll cause you to Bleed. But before that they did what was called a probing which is apparently a plastic needle they stuck in my gums to find out where cavities may be which of course causes bleeding. Overall everyone was friendly. But because of what they call a miscommunication I was very disappointed I was expecting a cleaning not a needle in my gums. Get a second opinion. I needed a new dentist and went here for two years. My first examination Dr Kirk had me look straight up at the ceiling, while he used one hand on my upper and another on my lower jaw to pull my mouth open like I was cattle at the county fair. True story! I'm a senior on Medicare, which does not cover dental. The office told me they do not offer financing. A year later they said they did. I saw several different employees for different things. To put it nicely, they were chilly. Then I had a cracked front tooth, but they couldn't help me just before thanksgiving and the holidays including a wedding. They are not on your side. Dr R took over my care and made me feel ashamed of my teeth. Unbelievable, but true. Finally, I was told the rest of my remaining teeth needed to come out (twelve of them) and get two full dentures for $9,000.00. I complained about Dr R and said I wanted a different dentist. No reply to my complaint and again got Dr R, so I just left. I got a second opinion. The second practice said only one tooth needed to come out and could redo my two partials. I will save thousands. Sounded reasonable but then when I went to schedule the cleaning, they told me that I had to do a deep cleaning that would cost $1000. Insane. And they would not let me do just a regular cleaning. I contacted Aspen dental on a recommendation from a friend. I had a back tooth break and was in extreme pain. Also I'm severely phobic. Everyone there was patient and kind as well as extremely professional. After a gentle but thorough examination the dr laid out a plan if treatment including extraction of the tooth, under sedation. Dr Xue saw me a few days later and removed the tooth. I experienced no pain whatsoever. I would go there again in a heartbeat- in fact I plan to go back for basic maintenance soon. Adding to my review on day two after the extraction. I've never recovered this quickly before. I can't say enough good things about the treatment I received at Aspen Dental in Kingston. Since my initial visits I've been back for a cleaning, a crown and a filling. Dr. Kirk is amazing. Horrible. I had been a patient for a year and scheduled a cleaning. Then one of my front teeth broke off two weeks prior to the cleaning. I called and said fixing the tooth was top priority, the cleaning was secondary. The office staff seemed to understand and agree. Well, I went today , reminded them of the need for at least a temp tooth replacement. The tech did cleaning only. I again reminded them of the earlier conversation to get the at least a temp tooth in front.This was especially important to me as I had an engagement in NYC the next day. The staff could not have cared less. It was exasperating. Kyra then called the police because I complained. Note: I'm 4'9", 70 years old, paralyzed on one side and use a Rollator to walk. I welcomed the police outside, they had far better social skills than the Aspen clerks. The police informed me that Aspen has banned me. While the Aspen - Kingston NY site has at least 5 nonchalent front desk staff, who sit around, they currently have ONE dentist, Dr Kirk. Dr Russo was transferred to another site. The staff used to be polite but things have changed. The office staff now have no concern for patients and seem to relish treating patients badly. A woman walked out in a state of disgust before I left. Perhaps treating patients badly is this Aspen staff's primary job satisfaction. read more

Welcome to Aspen dental, we need you to get a bunch of work done that you don't need so our owners can go to Aspen whenever they want. I went in planning to have my remaining teeth removed, and getting full dentures. They took x-rays, and then did a cleaning that I didn't need or want. (Just to make extra money I guess.) They told me that my insurance is very good and the dentures would cost $1,250 for the top,and $1,500 for the bottom. (That's a good deal!) BUT.,. I need them to remove my remaining teeth, (all 16 of them), at a cost of almost$6,000!!! Because my insurance won't pay much for extractions. The procedure from start to finish would cost $12,500 BEFORE my insurance paid, and I have to pay the difference of over $8,000!!! After much back and forth, I cancelled any remaining visits they had scheduled for me, and deleted them from my phone. They don't care about you, they just want your money. Stay away! read more

Run! This practice in Kingston,NY is terrible. I had a veneer replaced; they lost it, citing that it was the manufacturer's fault. There was yet another delay, again faults in the manufacturer, which I feel was a lie. The f al product is horrible! They have novice dentists who have never fashioned a veneer. I took my daughter here to get a cleaning and then they told me that she had cavities on all her teeth. She had no pain and never complained about anything. So I didn't believe it, so I decided to take her for a second opinion to make sure before we did anything. We went to a dentist in Beacon and he checked her teeth and told us that she did not have any cavities and that her teeth were in great shape. I'm not a fan of the turnstile type dentistry. A few years ago I had multiple visits in a few weeks time and the dentist couldn't remember what teeth he worked on and the medical records/xrays and what not were in front of him. The Dental Assistants who work with the Dentist in the room never introduce themselves. Doesn't that go against some sort of patient bill of rights ? Recently - I had 7 fillings done in two visits: In one visit - a front desk receptionist was getting some Dental assistant training during the visit and I felt most of the attention of the ACTUAL assistant was paid to the trainee. Needless to say the suction wand wasn't in place when I needed it. In the second visit - I had a newish dental assistant who seemed to be learning on the job. It's never very comforting listening to your dentist explaining EVERYTHING to his assistant. The front reception and billing department are pleasant enough people. The hygienist - Rachel - is great. update 06/19/14 The dentist who performed the 7 fillings I mention in my review was "let go". I of course do not know the reasons. I'm experiencing a lot of hot/cold sensitivity in these newly filled teeth. It maybe I needed root canals to begin with. read more
