For anyone whom have been a victim of this location and any other place where you pay for service. Please avoid going back and forth with these people and follow the following steps in obtaining your money back for services rendered and future services. They overcharge you and intimidate you into paying for services you do not need. 1. Call them and cancel the ALL service and request a refund. 2. Ask for the manager or whomever is in charge of billing 3. If they set up a credit payment service, call them and inform them that you are no longer interested in the service. 4. File a compliant with the following institutions: BBB, CFPB, Office of the Inspector General, and Health Equity with their corporate office (if they have one). It does not take 30 days to refund you your money for services that were never rendered. They have predatory practices. read more

Felt overcharged and misled about pricing I had two appointments with Aspen Dental this week--one on Monday and another on Wednesday. While I appreciate how quickly they were able to schedule me (I called on Friday and was seen by Monday), the rest of my experience left me feeling taken advantage of financially. When I arrived Monday, the front desk interaction felt abrupt. I was handed a tablet and told to fill it out after giving my name--no warm welcome or explanation. After about 10 minutes, I was taken for X-rays, then brought to a dental chair in an open room shared with others, divided only by cabinets. The dentist came in for maybe two minutes. We chatted briefly, and she told me I had no cavities and my teeth looked good. Then she left, and the hygienist came in. She said I had periodontal disease and started measuring my gums, telling me that 4s and 5s were concerning. I didn't fully understand what that meant, but I trusted her and let her continue. She was very kind and professional. Afterward, I was told to return to the waiting room to discuss pricing. This surprised me, as I have Tricare dental insurance and expected a standard cleaning to be covered. A staff member then told me I needed a deep cleaning due to periodontal disease and handed me a treatment plan. She said insurance would cover part of it, but I had to pay $791 up front before any work could be done. I asked why my insurance didn't cover a regular cleaning, and she explained I needed extensive treatment. What bothered me was that no treatment was done that day--I was being asked to pay before anything happened. I mentioned that I couldn't keep missing work for more appointments, but they scheduled me for Wednesday after my shift. When I returned Wednesday, the hygienist again was very kind. After the cleaning, she gave me a bag with an electric toothbrush, water flosser, toothpaste, and mouthwash. I told her I wasn't going to pay extra for those items, and she said I already had. When I got home and checked the paperwork, I realized that part of the $791 included the cost of that dental kit--something I didn't authorize or even know I was paying for. The electric toothbrush alone was priced nearly $100 more than it costs on Amazon, and I already own one. I feel misled. I thought I was paying solely for a deep cleaning. Had I known I was being charged for a dental kit I didn't need, I would have declined it and potentially saved about $300. This lack of transparency makes me feel taken advantage of, and I will not be returning. Their business practices, in my opinion, were not entirely honest. My experience at this dental office was outstanding. I had a serious car accident years ago and it was finally time to have all the teeth I worked so hard to save pulled. The dentist was awesome and quick. The hygienist who cleaned my teeth went so far above and beyond.She is my girl until I move home. I HIGHLY recommend this dental office. What a disappointment. I went in for a broken veneer. They sold me on a deep clean, and 6 crowns for the front teeth. Something I have wanted to do for a very long time. I wound up with a one piece bridge that is not the correct color. I don't know if I got what I paid for. I was able to speak to someone on the first day and was told that they would speak to the Dr. and get back to me the following day. No one has called and that was a week ago. Now when I call them I am automatically sent to voicemail, I am assuming they know its me through caller ID and ignore my calls on purpose and do not return my message. They ran my credit card for the full amount ($12,000) before any work was done and were very happy to answer before completing the work. The girl that was responsible for helping pick my color was very much off her game that day. She spent 30 minutes trying to scan my mouth with a wand that had a dead battery and was not very attentive when I asked which color did she thing was good. I don't think she wrote down the correct #. The Dr. even asked when placing the bridge who was the technician that helped because she wanted them to be whiter. Scheduled appointment for dental pain which i needed to get resolved before I could get my braces put on, dentist came in I told her i wanted both teeth extracted and i would like to be awake during procedure. Also, i told her once my braces is removed i will be getting implants done, so we went to insurance coordinator. She then gives me the total we owe once insurance covers their portion $885 due to dentist requesting bone graft for implants. Wait a minute #1 Dental pain requesting extraction for both teeth #2 Once I get the teeth removed I will be able to get braces put on #3 2yrs later once braces are removed then, implants would be but in place of missing teeth #4 Why would she require bone graft for implants today????? Did she assume i was coming back to their office to do implants??? No excuse The drive for me was 1hr to this location experiencing dental pain. I left the same way i arrived in pain, my insurance covered both extractions,x-rays, and office visit, the reason for scheduling. Bone graft was definitely not needed. Aspen Dental Sumter, SC- Starting July 2023 - Seeking Dentures * Originally were pulling some teeth but pulled ALL my teeth without my consent. * Over and over, the dentures were crooked, or short, didn't fit, pinched, fell out, etc. This went on for months! * I wanted a second opinion from an independent dentist who found that I am losing bone and need to act quickly or I will go without teeth for the rest of my life. My first trip to Aspen Dental and had a terrible horrifying experience with the dentist! I went to have one tooth pulled and she told me another tooth had to be pulled as well so ok I agreed being that I was already there and live over a hour and some away. The nurse came in and put the numbing gel on each side. The dentist came in the room introduced herself which was nice. The problem came in when she gave me four needles for numbing and she was digging and pushing it in too hard and I was telling her it was hurting might as well have been talking to myself cause she ignored it. Then, I sat there for my mouth to numb up and she came back in and started working on my tooth drilling and pushing down on my tooth hard I began to hurt and fill her drilling on my tooth I told her several times that it was paining me and that I can feel the drilling she then told me "just a little more" and began to drill again I than told her again and started to sit up and she said no no! lay back almost done. Did that on both sides. She was forceful while pulling and jerking them out very painful and uncomfortable. Now, get this while she was working and drilling in my mouth she left me 4 times (open and bleeding) to go tend to other patients of hers. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional. After all that tugging pulling and pushing she prescribed me antibiotics and ibuprofen. After getting home and the numbing wore off I started feeling bad pain worst on both sides making my ears, temple, and head hurt worst ibuprofen wasn't touching the pain ice pack and all. So we called up there they said it was normal just start hot salt water but the pain kept shooting sharply in my ears and temple. We called back to see if I can get in there so she can look at it and they kept ignoring us NEVER called back so here it is the Fourth of July they all closed. My husband had to rush me to the emergency room because something was sticking up out my gums and sticking and scratching my tongue come to find out it's my jaw bone. I would not recommend this place to anyone, we have spent over$7,000 with this place and the had to spend even more to another dentist to do the work properly. With spending 2 years in pain and having blisters on her gums because they fit so poorly. My wife was to embarrassed to be around people as the dentures would fall out no matter how much adhesive she would use. These people refused to refit them. She has spent two years eating soft food because of it and has removed all joy in her life. They did not care. Well I had to spend even more money with another dental office and guess what they have fit perfectly from the first try. That is how it should be when dealing with true professionals . Ok RANT! Aspen Dental in Sumter SUCKS! They pretty much talked me into my dentures and promising me a nice natural pretty smile, well they LIED I have been in constant PAIN from day one, February 13th 2020, when I got my so called "finally set" of dentures. The full top denture was supposed to be done in the "comfy light" material, but NO it's not, and all I keep getting told is it's because of the way my mouth is shaped? REALLY? and that the dentist REFUSES to do anything to fix it. Not only does it feel like I have a GREAT BIG WAD of wax in my mouth, but I can't eat properly as both upper and lower keep slipping and sliding and lifting and moving around so that I practically choke on them, no matter what adhesive I use. I've called and complained to their corporate office and they turned around and called Sumter office who called me and said that if I'm not happy then they will refund my $$$ and refund my insurance but I have to give them my dentures within 90 days. I went to the Aspen Dental in Sumter SC in early August to get a set of dentures. I ordered the best ones they offer, the "Comfort-Lites" for $5,000 dollars. The first visit they wanted to use my current dentures to make the molds. I told them I didn't want them to do this because the hot wax they use to make the molds might warp my only set of dentures. The lady DDS said "Well, it's my way or the highway!" I should have left then, but I guess I was just in shock. So, they used my dentures to make the molds and sure enough, they warped my top plate. I have a lisp when I say words with "S" in them, that I did not have prior to this visit. But I thought I'd be getting new dentures, so I didn't worry about it at that point. My next visit was today at 8:30am to pick up my new smile! I went in and was brought back almost immediately. When they gave me the dentures to try, my heart sank. The two front teeth were noticeably off center with my nose and lips, the right front tooth was stuck out much further than the left making it look like a buck tooth, there was a spot so thin in the acrylic of the top denture that you could see right through it. The bottom set had a front lower tooth sticking inward so much, it almost cut my tongue when I pressed it to the edge. And they had removed four of the jaw teeth!!! Two on the top and two on the bottom!!! Needless to say, I was not happy. The male DDS came in to ask me why I was unhappy with them. I showed him how the top denture was off center. He tells me how they line them up with the nose and the lips, and I said, "My nose and lips are not off to the left of my face." I then ask him where the other four jaw teeth were. He said I had "shrinkage" and that was why they were missing. I showed him the current dentures I had come in with and pointed out that they fit just fine with the four teeth in them! I showed him the bucked front tooth and the pushed in bottom tooth and the thin spot in the acrylic. He said "Well, you have a seven-year warranty on them, so you don't have to worry." I ask him if the warranty covered the off-center placement of the teeth, because if it did, I wanted them fixed. He said, "Why don't you wear them for a few weeks and see what other people say about them." I said, "Number One; I don't care what other people think, I'm the one that has to live with off centered teeth. And Number Two; I know if I leave with these teeth, I'm stuck with them just like this. And Lastly; these are not $5,000-dollar quality teeth!!" He said, "The only way to fix them being off centered is to re-make them." I said, "Okay, let's do that then." That's when he slams the paper down on the little tray in front of me and yells, "We'll just issue you a refund!" I said, "Okay", and headed for the front. The Office Manger gave me a paper refunding my money back in seven to ten days, and if they try to charge my insurance one thin dime, I'm going to sue these people for all they are worth!!! I'm going to the News Channel "5 on Your Side" and tell them how badly I was treated. It was more like being at a high-pressure car lot with an oily salesman pushing and bullying you into purchasing their old wrecks. We have visited this location a couple times and were totally dissatisfied to the point that we took our business to the Aspen over in Columbia to finish up our dental work. They say they have low prices but when you have a confirmed diagnosis from an endodontist that a tooth needs extracted, they nickle and dime you by making you come in for a "limited exam" to be sure their dentist agrees with the care plan that the other specialized dentist has already diagnosed a problem. That "limited exam" usually runs around $36 then they will want to bring you back for the actual treatment, either the same day or another day. If the offer you the same day, this location will insist on payment up front for the work- Sara will make sure of that... Like she wants to be sure you come back and she is all about meeting her budget goals for the week. Be careful and wise if you become a patient there. read more

The dentist doesn't listen to you. No care for if you are in pain. Is clumsy and drops tools. Is fairly rude half the time. Forgot I was even there for 3 hours my appointment before the last time I went in. Only plus side is how friendly and kind the ladies are at the desk. Do not go here. You are better off shopping around for someone competent and friendly. The amount of times he has contradicted himself regarding my x rays is absurd. They need a younger dentist with better people skills working here. This current dentist is too old and has verbalized in front of me to his assistant that he doesn't really know how to use all the new stuff. Dr. Dixon is very friendly and accommodating along with the entire staff. My wife and I are very pleased and satisfied with Aspen especially compared to where we came from. My wife has been waiting a couple years to finish her dental work which only taken a couple of months at a 3rd of the price. Scheduled appointment for an emergency on October 14th, was told first available appointment was November 7th. Clicked the "confirm my appointment" button on an email they sent me a week in advance. Get to Aspen dental 15 minutes before my appointment to be told that they "needed a verbal confirmation" to keep my appointment and that the earliest they could get me in would be the next morning at 9am. I took today off for this; tomorrow I work 10am to 9:30pm. I told her that my life is at risk if I miss this appointment and showed her my mouth. She scurried to the back, and came up front with the paperwork. I have now been sitting here for 2 hours. Why have appointments if everyone in the room waits for over an hour? Dentist (only one in the building) was not invested in my care. He was bouncing room to room trying to handle 4 separate patients at once. These people will set you an appointment for a month in advance then cancel it without letting you know. They will tell you that if you don't confirm your appointment they will cancel it. I set my husband's appointment a month ago and when I called today they tell me that they canceled it because we didn't confirm. We didn't get a phone call, email, or text to try to confirm the appointment. Now my husband has to sit with a broken tooth, that he has had for a month now, until I can figure out where else to take him. We have lost a day's worth of work which means we lost money but all I get told is that it's policy. I can prove that we didn't receive anything and I can prove that they had me on hold today saying they were going to try to work it out for more than 20 minutes. We will never go to an Aspen Dental ever again and everyone I know has pulled their appointments. This is an awful place and I definitely don't recommend going here. read more
