I used to have a good experience with the Aspen Dental people in Greer, but not any longer. I have been going to this establishment for approximately 10 years. Today I turned my back and walked out of there without any treatment because they wanted to charge me $140+ for treatment of periodontal problems -- but I do not have any such problems, nor have I ever had them. Today, I was asked to pay even before being allowed to go back to the treatment room. The receptionist told me that "looking in my chart" I have been getting perio treatments since 2022 and they have been charging my insurance company for them. Aspen Dental bills the insurance company direct so I am not aware of what was sent to the insurance company to make them pay for perio treatments I did not need (who really knows what they bill the insurance company for?). This year I changed insurance, and because the new insurance company will not pay for perio treatment, Aspen Dental now wants me to pay for it. I never have had periodontal problems and it should never have been in my chart. I complained about it, and asked that perio problems be removed from my chart -- and was told it cannot be done--ever. Whoever is in charge there could have had their hygienist look at my mouth and confirm that I did not need that treatment, but I was not offered that option. In June I had taken my sister into Aspen dental to get dentures.. The cost for everything with adjustments and let their paper work permanent dentures after the adjustments and her mouth was healed from the bad teeth being removed.. The cost was $ 4,135. 50 On June 30 th I informed them that she had left my residence and would not be returning for any more work. Carson the office manager said that he had spoken with the doctor and they would lower the cost by $1400 dollars which they never did.. Please don't use these thieves.. I'd leave no stars if I could. I had an SRP procedure in October and was given instructions to use use the toothpaste and mouth wash in the evenings. Within a day of my procedure my teeth started browning all around the teeth, primarily along the gums. My teeth look rotted out and I'm mortified. I've been in contact via email with the office and basically this has never happened to anyone but it is possible, and is caused by the prescribed mouth wash, and they're only willing to do a teeth cleaning at my february appointment to correct the brown spots. I've asked for some sort of a refund and they're refusing. I'm not sure how ANY dentist office would allow their patients to walk around like this. I should have read all the negative reviews before coming here. I'm a hairdresser and I've been terribly embarrassed laughing and smiling in front of my clients, even my family and especially over thanksgiving and probably Christmas too. If you're needing this procedure, I highly recommend seeking a different dental office and avoid this place at all cost. read more

My visit there was an absolute nightmare. I had just relocated to the area and didn't have a dentist yet and had an emergency. I popped off a crown and needed for it to be replaced. Aspen was able to get me in on the same day. After a full set of X-rays and an exam, I was told that I needed a Root canal immediately (that day) or I would loose the tooth completely. Also, the crown had to be remade as my crown had a crack (that I couldn't see) and the total would be $1,800.00 that my insurance wouldn't cover. They ask for a down payment of $500.00 then the balance to be paid before the new crown came in. I opted for a second opinion. I went to a well established dentist who asked Aspen to send over the x-rays. After reviewing and giving me and the crown a thorough exam~the new dentist replaced the crown that was not cracked, said no root canal was needed and my insurance covered 100 percent of the visit. At the end of the day, I was misled, lied to, and yesterday I received a bill from Aspen for $170.00 for the advertised free exam and ex-rays. They are a scam. Recently, my regular dentist (not Aspen) said pain coming from an upper bicuspid could be due to a crack but it might be salvageable with a crown, though a failed attempt could require removal by an endodontist. I wanted a 2nd opinion on saving the bicuspid and my insurer AETNA's website showed Aspen had in-network endodontists. I phoned Aspen and was told I needed to see a regular dentist first. On 1/3/23 at the Taylors SC Aspen office, my tooth was x-rayed and looked at by dentist Dr. Horvath, who said it didn't look cracked. A hygienist checked pocket depths around all my teeth, after which Horvath declared I had "periodontal disease" that needed treatment involving "microspheres" = ARESTIN. NOTE: I had my regular cleaning and exam at my dentist's only two months before and there was no mention of periodontal disease. Per the Aspen office manager the cost would be: $3,010 treatment fee - $1563 insurance discount - $810 insurance benefit = $637 my cost. I asked Horvath if the treatment would fix my problem and she unequivocally said "Yes", so I accepted the treatment. The hygienist treated the side of my mouth with the sore tooth and said she would treat the other side 2 days later. I returned on 1/5/23 sensing my tooth had split since treatment, which Horvath confirmed. Rxlist lists gum inflammation as one of several ARESTIN side effects, which likely caused the split. [NOTE: The 26 reviews of ARESTIN on WebMD give it an average 2.2 out of 5 stars, with several mentioning severe side effects] Given the failures of Aspen's staff and treatment, I declined the second treatment. I asked the office manager for a full refund, to which he replied that he would only refund half my money for the declined second treatment. The manufacturer OraPharma's "Limitations of treatment" states that scaling and root planing (SRP) is the primary treatment to prevent and treat periodontal disease, with ARESTIN secondary for deep pockets. [NOTE: Aspen's staff summarily dispensed with any SRP and contrary to OraPharma's recommendation went straight to treating ALL MY TEETH with ARESTIN] The article "Is ARESTIN® a red flag?" at Dentalbuzz states, "ARESTIN is a great product!... The problem is how it's being prescribed... You've visited a new dental office, and not only are they recommending that you have treatment for your periodontal disease, they're also saying you need a course of ARESTIN to be placed on the same day that you have your initial treatment [LIKE ME]. It's even a bigger red flag if you floss regularly and never see your gums bleed [LIKE ME]. The thing is, ARESTIN isn't cheap... You're seeing the big picture now: treating gum disease can be quite profitable!... This antibiotic is marketed to dental professionals as a way to help us make money, all in the name of "helping our patients"." read more

Front office girl was rolling her eyes as she took calls. She was short and rude with a lot of people. Complaining she was understaffed. I waited 23 minutes passed my appt time before I was seen. The dentist? Walked in and gave me the dirtiest look. Didn't introduce herself. I thought she was the cleaning lady. (I'm not even kidding). She gave my mouth two seconds, refused to help with what I came in for and actually made it worse. Then they had the nerve to put me in a room to wait some more for a plan and cost. The hygienist and the younger girl who took me back were the nicest but not nice enough that I'd ever return. You'd have a more pleasant experience just having someone knock your teeth out. Free exam and X-ray for first time guests... but you'll be getting a bill for exam and X-ray 1 week after your visit. Cleaning lady was out for the day even though I asked the receptionist on the phone the day I scheduled our appointments for a cleaning. Doctor rudely laughed about my xrays and small teeth. Counted my teeth like a 2 year old and sent us out the door. Waste of my time, happily taking my family elsewhere next week. Never coming back. Went in to use my Medicare dental plan at the end of the year and was told cleaning and fillings were all covered by insurance, so I said go ahead only later to find a $1,500 bill in the mail. I specifically told them I only will approve what is covered by my insurance plan. This is elder abuse and I am currently working with my state senator, to get to the bottom of this. This was the most HORRIFYING experience in my life. The most incompetent doctor could not apply the numbing agent for a simple extraction. She was even rude and demeaning. In the beginning when the asst. checked my blood pressure, it was high and the Doctor said, "Jesus, relax!" The Doctor gave me one shot of the numbing agent, left for 20 minutes. Came and gave me 2 more and left for 20 more minutes. Came back and gave me 2 more and starting the extraction. I started kicking and screaming. The Doctor did not stop for at least 10 seconds. She then asked me " Do you want a break?". I said yes. This happened 3 times. She then blamed the pain on me saying that it was because I was nervous. WHAT A HORRIBLE DOCTOR!!!!!! She offered a different doctor. I called her nurse Ratchet and another doctor came in. He fixed it, easy breezy. He even said that the numbing agent just needed to be applied correctly. I went in back in March with bad tooth pain. They did x-rays and a full exam and gave me an estimate for over $3000 after my insurance for all types of treatment for more than just the tooth that hurt. I didn't want to do all of the treatment because $3000 was out of my price range. I asked how much it would be to get just my 4 wisdom teeth take out with Nitrous. The told me it would be $334. I was good with that and setup and paid for the treatment. Right before the appointment they let me know that they left something out, and I need to pay them an additional $43. I was still ok with that. Now a month later, I received a notice from my insurance that the procedure wasn't covered and I got a bill about a week later for $414 more. I called the insurance company and we are on a plan that doesn't cover surgical extractions. So all of this is on Aspen Dental. They got my insurance information to work up my costs and should have known that my plan didn't cover that. If I would have known, I would have just had the one tooth worked on or extracted. Aspen Dental pulled a fast one on me and has stuck me with a bill I can't pay. Stay away from Aspen Dental. Go see any other provider but them. At least that way you won't be lied Update: I spoke with Aspen and they did state that on their original estimate, they entered the insurance info incoming and so it was their mistake. Their flip attitude turned me off. I have a rare medical condition so I went in to ask if they could help me, 'yeah they see that all the time', type of response. Hey, a small mistake could kill me. Never the less I allowed them to give an estimate, couldn't afford it, lower bid for partial work, still too much. 'Well let us make an appointment'. NO! very definitely refused. I went in for my free exam and x-ray because I was having some pain and sensitivity that I was concerned about. Most of the staff is very nice and caring, but the endodontist they have is kind of rude and short. I heard her talking loudly about me in the hallway, and she doesn't even introduce herself when she comes in, just asks if I have a bump on my gum because it would make it "easier on me." She told me I had a massive infection above my front tooth and needed a drain and root canal immediately or I would lose my tooth. So unprofessional, that was my first sign That if I needed work, I wouldn't be letting her do it. Nearly a thousand dollars for that, and I had to pay for half upfront if I qualified for financing. Well, I definitely couldn't do that so I did some shopping.... there are less root canal options available at other dentists. Also, when the infection got a little worse, I found out that it isn't anywhere near my teeth and it's all pretty much in my sinuses. The pressure from the sinus infection is bothering my tooth. All I needed was a round of antibiotics. Don't go in for that free exam unless you want them to worry you to death about your teeth falling out immediately in order to get you to agree to treatments you might not need. I visited Aspen Dental this am because of a broken tooth. Following an x-ray was sent to an oral surgeon because of my blood pressure. I was given a discount at Aspen because they do not accept VIP coverage. Oral surgeons' office asked if Aspen's surgeons were out, because their surgeons were never in on Fridays because of surgeries. I had no idea. I was just told she wouldn't touch me with high blood pressure. I assured her I was fine and the pressure was always high. Two x-rays cost $85 which I was not expecting to pay and I still have a broken, aching tooth. read more

I had some initial trepidation going here since I have seen some unfavorable reviews of the Aspen Dental chain online, but I had a very good experience with them at the Taylors (Greer) location. I chose them because I pay for dental care out of pocket, and their fees seem reasonable. The free X-rays and initial consultation helped me, too, since I'm on a budget. After doing some research online I decided to pay for a dental savings plan called Careington Care 500 through 1Dental.com. I was worried a little it might be a scam after reading some negative reviews online, but I took a chance and it worked out very well for me. Most dentists will not accept this plan's lower rates for their services, but Aspen Dental does, which is a big plus for going there. For a $65 membership, I saved almost $180 off of a $461 bill that way, which was nice. I don't go to a dentist's office to make friends. I don't want rude service, but I don't have unreal expectations that they are going to kiss my feet, either. I just want them to do a good job on my teeth, which they did. However, every single person I came in contact with there was nice, from Samantha at the front desk to Dr. Horvath herself. They were busy, but professional and genuinely nice people. They are all skilled and competent, so far as I can tell, which is probably the most important criterion for selecting a dentist's office. I was impressed with how gentle the lady was who did my dental scraping--she didn't cause me any pain or bleeding. There was a little TV screen in front of me I watched for diversion, and It was almost like not being there. I had a pretty large cavity drilled and filled with a composite resin, and Dr. Horvath did a very good job. I was happy not to get a silver-mercury amalgam filling, and, apparently, the dental industry is moving away from doing that practice. I did some waiting between procedures, but it was reasonable, and I didn't feel like they were wasting too much of my time. They never tried to plus-sell services to me that I didn't need or force a lengthy and expensive treatment plan on me. But if they had, I know how to say no. I have only had a couple visits there, but I'm satisfied with the results. read more

I went for a free exam and x-ray. I was told I needed two fillings and a laundry list of things done for inflamed gums. I declined to have any of the work done and seeked two more opinions. I was told by two separate dentist that all I needed was a teeth cleaning and that my teeth were in perfect condition. I rarely take time to post reviews, but finding a great dentist is worth the time to post. I highly recommend Dr. Horvath and Aspen Dental in Greer. I've had a broken filling replaced, cavity filled, several crowns, cleaning/xrays, a tooth extraction w/ some older bridge modification done here. ... (and will soon be having an implant to replace the tooth extracted here.) Been extremely pleased with the work, the skill level, the comfortable environment, friendly pleasant staff., pricing... it's all been really good. The Carrington dental plan (found online- $75/year) mentioned in another review saved a lot of money here, as their pricing is pretty reasonable using the plan and it's nice to have an idea, beforehand, of approximate cost. They've also worked with me to just do what I absolutely needed done and keep the costs down with no extras. The pricing was explained well and options presented... nothing extra thrown in or hidden. I've been to a lot of dentists over my lifetime (I'm semi-retired now) as I was born with terrible teeth and a difficult tight bite, and Dr. Horvath is definitely one of the best dentist I've ever been to. The crown not only matched older crowns and an older veneer perfectly, but my bite has never felt better. The temporaries were all very comfortable too. That sounds simple, but it's amazing how much difficulty I've encountered in the past getting those adjustments right at my prior dentists in NC. Never had any pain during the work- very gentle even during the tooth extraction. The entire office staff has been great... friendly, efficient, and skilled. I also like that they don't overbook patients, as I haven't had to wait long at all... whether it's been in the lobby or in the chair. They get you in and out. It's not rushed at all, but they are very considerate of their patient's time and very efficient, which I really like. I was also able to get appointments when I needed them. Even the paperwork was efficient and fast. As much as I usually dread going to any dentist, I can honestly say, I truly don't dread going here... and I can't believe I'm saying this about having dental work done, but they actually manage to make it a pleasant experience each time. I'm always leery when I see 5star glowing reviews, lol, but when you've had as much prior dental problems as I have had, an affordable skilled dentist is an exciting discovery for me. Came in on a Friday due to some tooth pain I was having - I made the appointment 15 minutes before over the phone and they were faster than I could fill out the paperwork! After x-rays and an inspection they found that the problem was an old filling. In the meantime they had already figured out my insurance and the out of pocket (they were cheaper than my old dentist too!) - they were able to schedule everything at exactly the time most convenient to me. The front desk staff was excellent and personable. Melanie cleaned my teeth and was awesome - seriously! It is generally pretty awkward when a stranger is all up in your mouth but she made it painless. Dr. Horvath corrected the filling with Samantha assisting. As a side note the doc is hilarious and her knowledge covers more than just basic dental - she knows how other unrelated diseases can affect the teeth.
