My wisdom tooth had to come out and as an adult, it's not so easy!! Dr Palmer did a great job and was very quick, they gave me the Nucalm treatment which helps to calm with and it really helped to calm me down. The Platelet Rich plasma helped a ton with any bleeding and recovery as well! It's not cheap to pay out of pocket, but Palmer and their staff do a fabulous job of taking care of their patients and making them feel comfortable and that's worth every penny!! This I paid Dr. Palmer for 4 implants. One of those implants was not on a implant post of it's own. It was attached to another implant. This created a fulcrum. When I chewed on the two implants on one implanted base it rocked the two teeth slightly. This loosened the implant. I asked for it to be corrected. I then realized what he was doing. The implant failed again. Most people know chewing on a tooth that is not attached to its on base will rock the adjoining tooth base and cause it to loosen. I left Palmer distinctive Dentistry. I was told I had lost 2 fillings . This was never mentioned to me by Dr. Palmer. read more

FROM JUDITH As a health care provider myself I was excited to find a holistic dentist. This excitement became a personal nightmare. As a young woman I had all of my teeth restored mainly for cosmetic reasons. These types of restorations do not last forever. So after 40 years I embarked on a full mouth restoration with Dr. John J. Palmer. The planned work was extensive and would to cost over $17,000 and take months to complete. Part of that work would include a 6 tooth bridge. When the bridge was placed, I noticed black at the margin and it was painful. This was never fully addressed, even though it was brought to his attention multiple times. Another part of the restoration was a single crown replacement. Shortly after that replacement the tooth broke off at the gumline making it impossible to just have a new crown on it. I underwent an expensive procedure called a root lengthening: a surgical procedure to expose a greater amount of tooth structure. During that procedure I happened to notice that the Xray of an adjacent tooth appeared to show decay. Dr. Palmer did not address this either. Shortly after that visit the tooth in question broke off. I made the decision to see another dentist. On my first visit with the new dentist the dental tech remarked "you have a cavity at the margin of your 6 tooth crown, and best we take care of that asap". The dentist came in and tried to remedy the cavity but informed me that the cavity extended under the bridge and that the teeth under that bridge were more than likely overprepared and that a replacement bridge may not be an option. Mind you this is all less than 2 months after my last visit with Dr. Palmer who persisted in giving my teeth the okay. I then went to an endodontist who did invasive painful flap surgery where my gums were cut open to try and reach the cavity. Her unfortunate finding is that the bridge is in failure and nothing can be done to salvage it. At this point my only option is implants or dentures. This is not what I spent $17,000 for. I could go on about the multiple failures I experienced, but I am not here to do that. I am here to say RUN. You see other reviews that mention that they have had failures. Do not think it cannot happen to you. Because if you do, you also may have spent your money unwisely and be left with no alternatives. I offered Dr. Palmer to handle this in a Christian manner which he refused. I am a tenacious person and for close to 3 years explored avenues for redress. I finally have had closure. read more

I have never been treated so badly in my 56 years . I went in for consultation paid in full at visit even though I had a cracked broken tooth that had to be extracted. They couldn't do it for two months and then they call me and want me to pay in full three weeks before before they even see me so they don't have faith in me to pay my bill the day of like I did last time, but I'm supposed to have faith in them to do the work in my mouth. I told her I'll pay the day of the appointment. What's the big deal? She's like well you'll be sedated. I said my husband will be with me. I've never had a doctor. Asked to be paid three weeks prior for a treatment. I will find a better dentist that actually works with me when I'm in pain and doesn't make me wait two months in pain and then call me and want to be paid three weeks before the procedure like I said I've never been treated so poorly before I'm just sharing this with others I would hate for you to waste your time and your money with people that don't trust you. read more

I left my appointment from Dr. Palmer with serious concerns about his approach and treatment protocols. I was given a written questionnaire, followed by an additional interview from the technician. I was then administered x-rays and cone beam scans. When I later met with Dr. Palmer, he showed me images and recommended the following: Remove a "dental cavitation" in my jaw. The removal of this "abscess" would cost me $5000. Remove two molars containing root canals. Dr. Palmer stated the root canals were infected and needed to be replaced with implants, for an additional cost of $10,400. I later asked Dr. Palmer to send me photos of the problem areas, and when we discussed these areas on a follow up conference call, I still did not see clear evidence of the stated problems. Since the total recommended treatments came to $15,500, I got opinions from my local dentist and endodontist, Both of whom have years of experience and high ratings. My dentist took his own cone beam scan of my jaw, and showed me multiple cross-sectional "slices" of my healthy jaw --He did not see evidence that I had a jaw abscess. The endodontist showed me x-rays of my molars, and showed me that there was no evidence of infection in either molar. After doing some research on "holistic dentistry," I found that holistic dentists believe that all root canals have or will have infections. However, this belief has not been supported by evidence from well-designed studies. I ended up declining Dr. Palmer's recommendations. I'm concerned that his protocols do not seem to be evidence --based, and many of his "treatments" were not based on a medical diagnosis, but rather based on a conversation with me about my symptoms. I'm a believer in integrative medicine, where it can be demonstrated that diagnosis and treatments are evidence-based. I don't believe Dr. Palmer is engaging in evidence-based dentistry, so I won't be seeing him again. read more

We invested in the Vivos appliance program as a braces alternative with Palmer Dentistry. The program has a hefty cost that was required upfront. The plan had many stages that was supposed to need years to complete. A short 8 months later, the doctor unsympathetically told us that the appliance didn't work and we would need to pursue braces for my son. Unfortunately the office has not had the integrity to accept responsibility and we have not been reimbursed for their failed product. read more

Really wanted to take my family to see this dentist, however, they require you pay the FULL AMOUNT for any service upfront (I was told $440 for cleaning and x rays for one person) and then they file your insurance. They seem to be very nice and competent dentists. I had to have a tooth pulled sometime bsck and they only gave me two suggestions. Bridge or Implant. Impant about $5400.00 and bridge about the same. So, not inexpensive. I did not feel the need to ruin two teeth for a bridge, and $5400 is just ridiculous for one tooth. I noticed they never opted to suggest a partial, so I'm assuming they do not do those. I did feel overwhelmed with the dentist, hygienist and office person looking as they wanted me to make some big financial decision like that on the spot. $5400 may be chump change to them, but not to me. I guess being so near Thornblade can skew your practices vision. I already ordered a partial from another dental practice but would consider going back to Palmer. I do like the dentist's. I just wish dental practices focused more on what needs to be done than selling your expensive procedures. read more

True confession, I had not been to a dentist in 20 years. As with many things, once you put it off it gets harder to put it back on the schedule again. Then one day last year I bit down on a gummy bear and one of my wisdom teeth completely shattered. I had heard good things about Palmer and gave them a call. They were extremely gracious and did a great job of extracting what was left of my shattered tooth without any guilt trips about my lapsed care. They asked for full payment upfront. The zirconium implant failed after 5 1/2 months of discomfort and pain (when I called about it, they said the pain was normal). Then I was charged for a second extraction again at $750 each time. Then he put in a bridge which is too light in color and the teeth are a funny shape. The charge for the bridge was $1500 more than what my regular dentist would have charged. One tooth ended up costing more than $6700. Palmer chiseled one of the teeth under the bridge down too far and now that area is sensitive. I now have almost the identical problem I originally went there for only a different tooth. Now I have less teeth and a much lighter pocket, not to mention months of agony and still have discomfort while eating. read more

I'm currently sitting watching my wife have her treatment done and so far this is what I've experienced. I haven't been to the dentist in over five years. Luckily, no issues. I found Palmer Dentistry by googling natural dentists in Greenville, SC. So glad I did!!! This place is amazing. Unlike any other dental experience I've ever had. As a new patient, instead of handing you a sheet of paper for you to fill out and then wait to see somebody after, the hygienist (ours was Jessica H-C) will sit you down in a private room to gather information (both medical and personal). They even gave us each a small gift bag. They get to know you and address any concerns you have and try their best to find out what type of patient you are and what it takes to fulfill your individual needs. I chose no x-rays simply because I didn't feel they were necessary and prefer no radiation exposure when possible. They were more than happy to accommodate that need. On a side note...a conventional dentistry office in G-Ville that I attempted to set an appointment with prior to finding Palmer told me it was law that I could not decline x-rays even when paying out of pocket. I'm so glad I received the dishonest response. I wonder if they would have tried to force fluoride on me as well... The building, office and environment is phenomenal. Everything is comfortable. Hospitality is A+++++. Technology is A+++++. We got a full tour by our hygienist (Jessica H-C) and she was more than willing to answer any questions we had, and I had plenty in regards to our visit today, future amalgam removal and future preventative treatments. She gave us information and advice on oil pulling and offered products for purchase. She allowed myself and my wife to sit in on each other's treatment. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. We must have been asked at least five times if there was anything we needed. No soda available either! I love that! No fluoride treatment available either! Love that too! These people know what they are doing! I paid out of pocket for this treatment because I've chosen to decline dental coverage with my job assisted health insurance and quite frankly what we received so far today was far beyond what I will be paying and I WILL be returning to have the five amalgam fillings removed. I'm in the service industry and it's extremely difficult to find businesses that care for their customers as this place does. A+++++ all around. Can't go wrong here. My experience with Palmer Distinctive Dentistry was the worst dentist experience I've ever had. The first visit was nice... the receptionist and dental hygienist were friendly and the office is quite nice. I went back for a second visit to get a crown replaced and instead of replacing the crown, Dr. Palmer replaced a filling on the tooth next to the crown without even discussing it with me. Given my mouth was numb, I didn't realize what had happened until after the fact. The filling wasn't causing me any problems until it was replaced. It was then painful to chew on that side for weeks and is still sensitive. Dr. Palmer did offer a quick apology and I was eventually refunded for the pre-payment I made on the crown. However, I spent most of a day getting unnecessary work done and now have a tooth that frequently bothers me. I get mass emails from them quite often asking their patients to leave (positive) reviews and send referrals for rewards (such as a $300 gift certificate, cash, and other drawings for nice things).
