This library is constantly losing books. It has happened to me numerous times & now they've just…read morelost another book I turned in which makes it twice in as many weeks. It is also the 2nd interlibrary book they've lost. For the first one, when I brought it to their attention that I had returned it but it was still showing up on my acct as checked out, the librarian said let me go look for it. She walked away to the children's section & came back a moment later carrying the book. It was on their shelf! I don't even know how that would happen since interlibrary books have a white paper taped to the front of them. This one no longer had the paper on it although it did when I turned it back in. It has happened to my husband as well. He used to check out their foreign language cd's but after being told he hadn't returned a set when he knew he had (he walked back to where he originally found it & there it was on the shelf) he stopped patronizing this place. As of right now, this (2nd) interlibrary book that they have lost is still on my acct as being checked out. They won't remove it. I know I turned it in b/c I checked out 2 books by the same author & turned them in at the same time. One made it back into the system & one has been lost. This is so frustrating. How hard is it to get books checked back into the system? Someone at this library is seriously incompetent. Now I will never just put the books I'm bringing back on the countertop (where they want them placed). I will stand in line & watch the librarian check each & every one of them back in & then I will log into my acct & make sure they are no longer there before I leave.

They now have a big open area with the children's section in two enclosed rooms towards the back. There are a few computer stations in the middle of the room, lots of tables for reading and studying, and a few enclosed work rooms. They even have a charging station for laptops and phones, which looks very high tech! The semi-enclosed children's stacks have 3 computers (for research, mom!), and the other children's area is completely enclosed so that will keep the little ones from roaming or disturbing other patrons. There are 4 check out desks, of course staffed by helpful librarians. The only down side is that there is no self-checkout, so you have to wait in line. I didn't go downstairs to see if that had also been renovated. Stay tuned!

To me, that's everything I need/want in a good study space. This library is also much less crowded than Bethesda library and quieter too; Bethesda library puts their quiet study room next to their collaboration rooms, resulting in a quiet study room that is not actually that quiet. The only reason I'm withholding the fifth star is the hours. They've recently extended their hours so they're open until 8 Monday-Thursday, but Friday/Saturday hours are more limited; only open until 6 and closed entirely on Sundays. This forces me to go to Bethesda library or an area college library if I want to have a long study session on the weekend.

I'm not clear if there is a cost associated with that, because I haven't yet tried to reserve a space. It's also more quiet on the second level compared with the first level which is geared more towards children. The Cons: The library is small, and I could not find a desk when I got there. I've been to two other libraries in the city which provide significantly more space. With no available empty table, I sat at a computer work station desk and tried to navigate space for my laptop.

Although some are critical of the vibe here, I cannot say I have found, on three visits, that is inferior to others in the system, or even discernibly different. I tend to select my retreat based on location, whatever is convenient to the last meeting or the next meeting. I would not criticize this venue. The city must have started a giant renovation project. So many of the branches have bright, well designed, tasteful furnished renovations. It does get a bit hot here. On the scale of concerns, with looming catastrophe from climate change, that hardly ranks as more than a quibble.

There's a sign out front that says "no vaping"--must have been an issue enough times to necessitate a sign. I picked up a book that I placed on hold without much trouble and checked out with no lines. An ideal experience. The checkout staff was willingly helpful and friendly.

Rockville has five, at best. -Lots of couches in the kids area to read books to your little one. Cons: -The room used for music time for kids was bursting at the seams, with half the parents standing outside the room. Surely there must be a bigger room to use, right? I opt to go to a library in DC (Cleveland Park) that puts on story time almost daily, instead. -Montgomery County PL has some really uptight, annoying rules. I brought in a bag of books to return (only containing books), also was holding my baby, diaper bag, etc, and the librarian insisted I take the books out of the bag myself. Only having one arm I attempted to dump the bag out on the counter and of course nearly all of them fell on the floor, leaving me to scramble to pick them up while still holding the baby. Thanks. That would be okay if they stayed in the children's section, but no, once that class was filled the ones that decided to hang out for the 11:00 toddler time class just set their charges free in the rest of the library. Since the public libraries don't carry professional periodicals and journals I needed to do some online research. This library has several web-connected computers to use, only they are out in the open, not in a private room. The problem with that is when a nanny decides to leave her baby stroller (with baby intact) parked behind you while she peruses the chic lit, it can get annoying, especially if the toddler is calling out to deaf ears. As for the library itself, it does its job: lend books. It is easy to get to (not by Metro) and has plenty of free parking.

The staff is professional, courteous, and helpful. But, today, I want to talk less about their regular services and more about the special way they helped the community by dispensing covid masks and tests. I arrived about 15 minutes ahead of time and the line of people wrapped all around the parking lot, down the street, and around the parallel street. I was unsure if they would have enough masks or tests for everyone in line. But, promptly at twelve the line began to move. It was quick and efficient. We wound through the entrance door and table was set up handing out tests and masks. It took about 10 minutes to get through the long line and exit through the opposite door. The library employees were wonderful. I have never seen such a large operation move so smoothly. So, if you need a book, need help searching for information on a subject, or need Covid masks and tests, Potomac Library is there for you! Thanks President Biden and Potomac Library.

Chevy Chase Neighborhood Library is a great place to study and have time of peace and do what you need to do. I tried Starbucks, tried time sharing places, even tried offices, the library is the place I can accomplish the most. Staff are nice and welcoming for new people. I wish they could walk me to the shelf I needed, and not just point in general direction, the obviously want enough. But one of the library visitors was happy to help. Very quiet library. Lots of places to choose. And staff that could be little better.

This means that the adults area is quite small and the adult materials are very limited. As a former librarian myself, my main criticism is of the library staff. I don't think they are very professional and they certainly don't take the ideals of the library profession seriously. (In other words, they just want to sit and talk.) It's mainly a community gossip center.
