Its one of the more larger libraries in MOCO. I was looking for a book... thats a best seller. However all the libraries in the area had long waiting lists. They have Lucky Day shelves. Which means those books with waiting lists sometimes will be there. I bypassed that 4 week waiting period. I came initially to use one of their conference rooms. Which is huge and spacious. They have a discovery room which is a huge sensory play area that I use to take my littles that they absolutely loved. Teachers can also reserve the room during the week for a hour. However use caution. Idk if those toys are sanitized. So make sure your littles dont put it in their mouth. Lots of computers to use, or bring your own laptop. Wifi is good. However their printing is expensive... .15 cents for regular and i think .99 cents for color. They also have classes, especially if you wanna learn how to knit, or play mahjong. They also have reading time for the littles. read more

I'm a huge fan of libraries, and the Gaithersburg branch is a great option. It is always clean, and the librarians are helpful. You can reserve study rooms, play rooms, and conference rooms. I appreciate that there's a separate teen section so that age group has their own space. They offer tons of activities. There used to be a monthly craft for teens, but I'm not sure if that is continuing. A pro tip, reading to a dog fills up fast. I think you need to get there 30 minutes before it starts to even hope to get a spot. With it being so popular, I wonder why they don't just bring in another pup. read more

I did however note a shoppong cart stored on the Montgomery village side, Since the library attracts children as it should, I don't think that anyone who is not using the library for it's intended purpose should be hanging around there read more

What a great library! I spent a good portion of the morning and early afternoon here while my kitty was in surgery. They had many places to choose from for seating, including comfy chairs, work tables, computer stations, and private rooms you could reserve. There were also plenty of outlets available if you have your own digital device. I was able to use the WiFi from my phone to do work on my computer throughout the day, although I believe they may have their own network available. The library was well stocked with all sorts of reading material, media, and supplies. Bags of masks and boxes of COVID tests were available on a desk in the front. It looks like they also have a coffee shop and classrooms, although neither were open while I visited. They also had citizenship and legal resources for immigrants upstairs. The bathrooms were clean and in good condition. The staff members were all very friendly during my visit. Thanks for being such an excellent community resource! read more

As an avid reader, I love the feel of the actual book in my hand turning the pages and the scent of the older books. With that said, I seemed out the closest library to my home, unfortunately not within walking distance, but not too far by car. Initially, when I walked inside I was a bit taken aback by the open space, but then it hit me they had to structure the space due to covid to keep people from sitting on top of each other, so I welcomed the space. It is easy to get to, and it is named after the county of Montgomery, there are lots of parking spaces, and handicapped accessible. It's a nice library, they still adhered to wearing a mask, recommended, but not enforced, to wear a mask at your discretion. The staffs are friendly and helpful and their checkout stations are state-of-the-art and up-to-date systems and very user-friendly. I recommend this library because I feel safe here and it's my favorite spot to hang out to get my books and read. Currently, I'm reading Colleen Hoover the author of "Maybe Now" and I recently read volume 10 "Finding Perfect" by her. There are 8 more volumes by her. I recommend her books. 5 read more

I came here today for a staff meeting, and only spent my time in a meeting room on the second level. In addition, I also used the restroom. I used to go to the library when I lived in the county, but hadn't been back since four yrs ago. It was my first time here after the renovations were completed. It is a very nice facility. You walk in and there are tables in the lobby before you step foot into the library. There is also a courtesy charging station. On the second level there are meeting rooms, classrooms, and the Charles Gilchrist Immigration Resource Center. The room we were in today came equipped with a smart station and screen from what I could see. It was a little challenging to hear given the room was so large. It was also a bit chilly in there. Overall I was very impressed with the amenities and resources the library now provides. I wish it was that nice when I grew up in the area. One note, if there is a big meeting or event parking can be limited, but I was informed by colleagues that parking is available in the business parking lot adjacent to the library. read more

It's quiet place and the staff is friendly. They have events for the younger children.

Books! They have books!!! Books for small kids! Books for medium-sized kids! Books for teenagers! Books for parents! Books for older adults! And not just books, but movies too! And current magazines! There's free wireless for BYODs, and computer terminals for those without personal devices. (If only they could only find a way to limit the time kids can spend on the adult terminals, like a time limit clock that can only be unlocked by a librarian). The central hall can get noisy due to the lack of carpeting and high ceilings, but there's a quiet room to the right rear, a separate young adult room in the left rear, and carrels and group study rooms for high school and college students. There's a kids circle for elementary kids and a dedicated children's restroom on the left side, and a discovery/climbing room for toddlers while their older siblings peruse the stacks. Parking can be tight due to the community meeting rooms on the second floor and after school hours, but there's a small overflow lot at the Montgomery Village entrance/exit. There was a small cafe that served Costco-type snacks and drinks near the entrance, but it's been closed for a while. You can still eat at the tables, however, provided you don't try to bring food and drink into the library itself. read more

Beautiful county library! I attended a seminar last week on the second floor of the library. Yes, it has a second floor. The building is very accessible and spacious. An elevator is available along with stairs. There were plenty of meeting rooms. The main floor was quite busy during the after school hours. There appears to be a wide selection and categories of interest. Plenty of parking. read more

I went to the new library today and was quite pleased to see the new place. My expectations were that it would be more like the Rockville location but it definitely has its own personality. I took a ton of pictures so you can check them out to see what it looks like. They still have a lot of selves to fill so that was strange to see how much space was empty but hey, it's a work in progress. It is smaller than I thought and is just the one level for general use. The upper level is dedicated to community room space but I'm not sure about the requirements to reserve the spaces. I was a bit annoyed because I wanted to get a group study room for my group of 6 and all the rooms were taken by singles using the space as homework or office space. Hopefully they will remedy that soon. The teen room was a hit for my girls but they were annoyed that every book just about involved romance and sex or were fantasy type books. I hope the library will invest in some good clean teen reading that doesn't involve relationships and sex activity or too much fantasy if that's not your thing. The Discovery room aka play room was a great thing to see but when I went in a lady was in there with her two kids and said she had the space reserved until noon and that we have to reserve the space. We reserved it for the next available time slot of 1pm to 2pm and she was kind enough to let us in the room to play with her children until her time expired. Later on when I was in there I did the same and had two different families join me. It was 5 kids and 3 adults and the kids all played nicely. I'm sure there must be some rhyme or reason to this policy but I just haven't figured it out yet. One thing I love about this library is that they have a little café with tables and chairs right at the entrance! It makes sense because there isn't really anywhere you can go easily for a drink or a quick bite. As of today it was cash only but they are working on being able to accept other forms of payment. Woohoo!! I think all future libraries should have this option, especially since you can't brown bag it when you have a marathon library session going on. As a homeschool mom I am sure we will be here a lot. I look forward to discovering and enjoying more things at this library. It's been long awaited and long overdue for the Gaithersburg area. read more

I came in October just before Halloween with my 6 year old grandson. It was the Saturday before Halloween & they were celebrating with a family friendly craft & trick-or-treating event! There were craft tables set up in the utility room. Pumpkin themed activities began here & continued throughout the whole Library! There was a scavenger hunt for pumpkin faces that was very challenging. They were hidden all over the place on windows, walls and the book shelves! When the card was completed we took it to the main help desk to get a treat. There was also a variety of games of skill to play. Again my grandson got to pick out a treat of candy or a small toy. One game my grandson seemed to really enjoy was very educational. It was a matching game where you match up the animal with it's habitat! Although he did not leave the library with a big bag of candy he had a really great time. The library staff was friendly and engaging. If this branch of the library was closer to us I am sure we would come here on a regular basis for books & activities. This library is one of two Gaithersburg branches of MCPL, even though Google maps lists it in Montgomery Village. It's located right near Lakeforest Mall, and was renovated a few years ago, so it looks brand new. There's a lot going for this library, but I mostly use it to get books and as a work space. As for books, I feel like the selection is as good as, or better than, many of the other Montgomery County libraries. I often find more copies of books here than at Rockville, and sometimes find books here that other libraries do not carry. The employees at this branch are incredibly friendly and helpful. I've had middle and older aged librarians give me minor tech support and teach me about various apps on my phone. Given our respective ages, shouldn't it be the other way around?? All in all, I get the impression that the employees genuinely enjoy their work, an impression that I don't always get at other libraries. The Children's section is nice, and the book selection is quite extensive. I've brought nephews and nieces here, ranging in age, and they always leave satisfied. Unless your child is extremely particular, they'll probably find something to their liking. One thing to note: for many of the popular book series, the books aren't located in the usual, 6-foot shelves in the middle, but the short book cases along the wall. If your kid has read a dozen books about magic kittens/puppies and wants more, this is where you'll find the series. For work/study, there is a lot of desk space in the main areas; many tables with chairs are in the center, and a good amount of desk space along the perimeter facing out the large window. I've never sat in a space that did not have a power outlet, so my assumption is that every space is powered. There are 6 private group study rooms ('collaboration' rooms) which you can reserve for 2 hours, as well as meeting rooms. The larger quiet study room has 23 spaces, 7 of which are along the windows, which face the front and side parking lot. The room is in the corner of the library, has large windows, and faces southwest, so you get a lot of natural light from late morning through sunset. You might imagine that this can be a bad thing, since the sun can get in your eyes if you face it or create gate on a screen. But this library, which is a little more high tech, has a perforated sun shade that comes down when it's really sunny. I don't know if it's activated via sensor, a smart timer, or if it's manually drawn by a librarian, but it's cool when it just drops down on its own. Parking depends on when you arrive. The front lot can get packed, but there are more spaces on the side toward the Montgomery Village Ave entrance, so you'll likely find a spot. This side is also where motorcycle parking spaces are. There are also 10 designated "Fuel Efficient Vehicle" parking spaces in front. Oddly, they are often filled by monster trucks and non-military tanks. It took me at least six-eight visits before I ever saw an actual hybrid parked in one of the spaces. Aside from this, people respectfully follow the rules. Overall, this branch offers something for everybody, and offers community and legal services that I have not used. For example, there is an Immigration Center (on the 2nd floor, I believe) that offers free immigration consultations, legal services, and citizenship programs, which I think is great! read more

I love the renovations that they have done to the Gaithersburg Library! It has such a modern inviting feel. It is located not far from exit 11 on 270 and is easy to find. I love that there is a cafe here where you can purchase snacks and coffee. They have a discovery room here that has a cute climbing toy inside. There is also a teen room that has a lot of young adult novels and several reading tables - such a great idea! One thing that I wish they had were a few children's toys in the children's area aside from those in the discovery room. The kids really look forward to the toys at the other locations. Aside from that, we are really excited to finally check out all the updates! A few other reviews mentioned parking issues. It does get a bit crowded in the main circle but there is a cove of spots that are hidden by the exit that goes back towards Montgomery Village Ave. read more

It's been 10 years since I've stepped foot into this library and with the new renovations...wow I'm impressed! I didn't recognize it at all and I felt a bit lost as to where everything was. I use to work at the cafe in here back in high school and I haven't been back ever since. My library card is so ancient, it had my old home phone number in their system. I even forgot how to log on to a computer station (how embarrassing). FYI: The password to get a computer is your birth year by the way! To print a document you must scan your library card and again the password is your 4-digit birth year to retrieve it. This is what happens when you print everything at work, yes I'm guilty of it and so are you! The library seemed more organized than before and everything is spread out to enjoy your own space. I took off one star because of the parking space. Even the lines for the spaces are small so there's a good a chance you'll leave with a door ding. Overall, a good place to study and get some peace and quiet. read more

Great place for teleworking! Plenty of places to set up a computer and go to work. I've never seen all the work carrels filled and there's usually enough space that no one is actually beside you. I bring my own hotspot and need to be near a window to pick up the signal. I haven't used the library's wi-fi, but my laptop shows it to be excellent strength. They do have common work rooms which you can book before your arrival in 2 hour slots. Handy for conference calls. There's not a lot of restrictions on noise except in the Quiet Reading Room. I am surprised at the number of private phone conversations I can hear, although that's not a library issue. Restrooms are large and extremely clean. There's a nice coffee shop as you enter. The low chairs and the level of the carrel desktop means I need to bring a cushion to raise my arms to a more ergonomic-friendly height. And on my first visit, the staff was extremely friendly showing my where things were and suggesting ideas. read more

Long overdue re-opening of the ol Gaithersburg Library..... guess what? It's the BEST in the area. Very large, without it feeling like you're in a cavernous stadium. Little coffee/snack shop in the front with doors separating it from the main floor. LOTS of computers/magazines, and a neat machine that dispenses the DVDs.... cool! Haven't tried the Wi-fi yet, but walking in, I was able to find Bob Gates autobiography, and get two recent movies on DVD. Awesome! Also included, a small kid play area! Why wasn't this around when Jason was a toddler? Now the big joke: "fuel-efficient car" reserved spaces in front? COME ON read more

I come here almost every day with clients and have used almost every section of this library. The study rooms are great and are normally avalible. The computers on the other hand are normally taken. The DVD and book selection is great and staff are super helpful. The only negative thing about this library is the parking lot. The spaces are so small and it's always a headache. Once you get inside though you'll be fine. read more

I used to come to Gaithersburg library regularly when i lived in Gaithersburg. Even after I moved to Germantown, I still come here from time to time, as it is conveniently located near I-270, and also close to a few shopping places. This library was torn down and rebuilt a few years ago. This current building is way better than the previous one. It is much more spacious and modern. It also has a big auditorium on the second floor, which is good to hold community event. It also offer some free classes on the second floor. But the study room is a bit small, and there are fewer study rooms than Germantown or Rockville library. read more

The computer lab is quiet and nice and cold. I casually you get those really interesting characters that think it's OK to come into a computer lab and talk on their phone. However eventually when the staff realizes they do approach them and tell them they need to leave the room. The staff is very nice and very helpful. read more

This is one of my favorite study spots in Moco. I typically don't check out books in print so I can't comment on their book catalog. I've checked out books a few times from here and the experience was painless. Their main room has lots of study desks, both communal and individual, all with power outlets, which is much appreciated! Wifi here is easy and fast. While I only use it for work and not streaming, I haven't had any issues. In general, I find the clientele to be respectful of noise level, unlike some libraries in the area. Additionally, there are multiple study rooms available that can be reserved in advance. This library is quite busy on the weekend and some evenings so I recommend getting here early and if you want to a study room, reserve it in advance - especially on weekday afternoons or on weekends. Parking here is easy but can be tight on the weekends due to the number of patrons so again, get here early. Overall, in my opinion, one of the nicer Moco library branches. It's so new and esthetically pleasing. read more

I was planning on a road trip, so stopped my the new Gaithersburg library to pick up a couple audio books. Wow.... new library is so modern. The large glass windows provide a lot of natural lighting and the high ceiling makes the place seem nice and airy. The check-out clerk was nice and patient with me. I forgot my library card. With proper ID, she looked up my info, checked out the audio books for me, and updated my address on file. read more

It takes a long term volunteer who has spent money out of their own pockets because anything that was said to the staff members. The staff then say to the volunteer that they don't appreciate what they have done in the past. Word of warning to any new computer volunteers they don't stand behind you. read more

Why didn't I think of going to the library to get books for my family child care before? I walked in, applied for a library card and found myself in children's book heaven. I browsed the books for over an hour and had to resist checking out more than I could carry. Check out was a breeze. Next time I will use the self check out and make it even easier and faster. The new library looks great, but there are some problems. Some pros are: -Wifi -Cafe with snacks (over priced) -About 40 computers with big screens (they are touch screen) -Computers in the kids area for the kids to use -Magazine reading area -Many tables with outlets -Reservable rooms -Discovery room with toys for kids to play in (it must be reserved) Some cons are:: -The server for ALL the county libraries goes down weekly (and sometimes multiple times during a day) so logging in to computers and printing doesn't work until they reboot it -Not enough parking -Kids use the adult computers to play games and are loud and don't seem to be supervised -If most or all of the computers are in use, most people don't realize that there is a computer kiosk to register on that will assign you to the next available computer (it is toward the back of the library by world languages instead of being between the front door and the computer area) -The restrooms are in the lobby by the front door (oriented so people can miss it) read more

Each visit to Gaithersburg library I promise myself to come here more often. It is a great place for reading and for relaxation. It is beautiful and the librarians are so helpful. Whenever I order some book that they don't have at that time, they are bringing super fast and holding it in the shelves for you. They are so organized and clean. This is a very nice library ! I like how when you enter the door automatically opens that way you don't have to open the door . There are computers for people in the middle . But it do gets loud because of the kids using the computers , and people talking on the phone . One guy went up to a guy who was talking on the phone while using a computer and said to talk somewhere else . The guy on the phone told him shhhh , the guy respon did don't tell me shhhh before I throw your phone across the room. I said wow. One time I went there, there were kids who were using profanity speaking very loudly while using the computer . I said where are there parents? This is unnecessary because some people are studying on the computer , some people just want quiet. If you want to talk throughout your stay just go somewhere else in the library . Have some courtesy you know? But this library is decent . Nice people who works there. read more

It is a very nice building. The people who work there are friendly and willing to help. But... Today was my second time there and got disappointed again. You could hear little kids crying, teens talking loud to each other, cell phones ringing all the time and people been taking the call and actually having a conversation!!! If you want to socialize this is a good place on the low, but if you try to get some work done and study... I do not recommend to go there. read more

Study here all the time. Whenever I think I might need a reference book. I check out their catalog online, and they usually have some related text. Very useful. Can't always find a place to sit, but worth it if you're studying for a license or some other exam. There are some homeless people around, and I think it's pretty cool that the library let's them stay. I see them on the computers or out in the lobby area. No harm whatsoever. read more
