I hired Aspiro Renovations to do a complete remodel of a one bedroom loft unit in Gramercy Park, New York City. I had interviewed 12 contractors, narrowed it to two, and then proceeded with Aspiro. I had very high expectations going into the project, and Halina and her team at Aspiro Renovations exceeded my expectations with the job, timeframe and budget. The major highlight in working with Aspiro was the flexibility in execution. The team worked very hard to deliver my vision for the apartment whilst keeping within time and cost parameters. The team is very innovative and finds solutions when new problems are discovered. My building is older, so when you do a full renovation like what I did, you are bound to come across unexpected issues. (ie old piping, walls aren't straight, etc). One of the major differences between Aspiro and other contractors that I have worked with is transparency. Throughout the process, Halina was very good at letting me know various options and their price implications. Therefore, when the final bill came, there were no surprises (and when scope was reduced, the line items were removed thereby reducing overall cost). This is a breath of fresh air compared to the "rape and run" and "hostage" type attitudes of other New York City contractors. I would recommend Aspiro Renovations for any job big or small. We chose Halina as our contractor via Sweeten. Halina is not your typical contractor. She is friendly, accommodating, sweet, knowledgeable and fashionable. Meeting her wasn't like meeting a new vendor, but more like gaining a new friend. We decided on Halina as she provided the most flexible option in terms of choosing our own materials, and she is extremely careful with giving a detailed quote so that the client can see the complete breakdown. Halina helped us with a full kitchen and bathroom renovation. We had a modern kitchen but hated the look. I showed her my Pinterest board which she immediately understood my vision. She brought in an amazing cabinet maker (millworker) who did fabulous custom cabinets for us. I am an avid baker and cook and wanted the small kitchen to be as functional as possible. Halina accommodated with bringing in the millworker who mapped out our entire space for maximum efficiency. This included pull out spice cabinets, utensil cabinets, toe kick and pull out trash bin. We had a custom color sprayed on the lower cabinets and they look and function beautifully; with soft closing drawers and inlay cabinet doors. The bathroom was definitely a complete overhaul. We did a bathtub to shower conversion with hexagon tile flooring, subway tile walls. Halina made sure that all the plumbing was good to go, and while this was a slightly difficult process for us to live without running water for a little bit, the end result is well worth it! We have a beautiful bathroom that makes me feel like I am at a resort every day. The tile work is very well done. As far as change orders, Halina doesn't start anything without asking us. We had a few things that we wanted to change that were on our part - and the prices were fairly reasonable. What we paid at the end was very close to what we were quoted in the beginning. Overall, we are extremely thrilled with our renovation from Aspiro Renovations. Halina is a true gem to work with on any renovation project! We worked with her on a complete renovation for our bathroom, which was both outdated and starting to fall apart. Her team started our project on the planned day and completed it within 4 weeks. They showed up daily and were always very responsive to any questions or concerns we had along the way. The project estimate and projections were very close to our final cost. This is a team that does what they say and when they say they will do it. From early on in the process, I felt that we were working with very honest and efficient contractors. Her pricing is very competitive, and she itemized clearly all the work we should expect for that cost. They also were very conscientious of our home and set up a clean working space during the project by taping off rooms and covering the floors. Her team finished the project by cleaning our space and removing all of their materials so that we could move back in without much disruption. Halina guided us through the design process and kept us on track throughout the project. She began the project by sharing with us inspirational images and listening to our ideas. From that point, she encouraged us to begin selecting our fixtures, tile and vanity. She sent us options to choose from and then handled the ordering to ensure proper timing on delivery and correct sizes. She has connections with various sellers and was very transparent with us about ordering our products and the pricing. I always felt that she gave us a fair, unmarked up cost for all of our orders. They are experts in laying tile and did an excellent job with great care for detail. At one point it was determined that the pipes behind our sinks needed to be replaced to accommodate a modern floating vanity. Halina alerted us that this would indeed require a change order and adjusted the cost for us. We used Halina and her team to totally redo our kitchen, and also refinish all of the floors, painting and electrical/lighting upgrades throughout the apartment. Halina and her team were fantastic. She's very professional, a great communicator, and most importantly, she earned my trust to get the job done right. She was incredibly respectful of our timeline and budget, and was super clear about where the time and budget were being invested. Other contractors I initially spoke with seemed very busy and distracted. Quotes and timelines were vague, and no one seemed to think a visit to the apartment was that important. I even asked one contractor what he thought of the photos and if he had any initial ideas...he said he couldn't remember what they looked like. Halina was the total opposite of this. She insisted on doing an initial site visit. I walked her through the apartment to share our vision, she took notes, made helpful suggestions, and even identified potential opportuniites and problems I hadn't considered before. Within 2 days she sent an itemized project proposal with associated costs for various aspects of the work. This helped me understand how to prioritize aspects of the project, especially given our limited time and budget (what we should invest more in, where we might need to try to find cheaper materials, what could wait for a later weekend project, etc...). Even if surprises came up later that affected the timeline or budget, these were always clearly communicated, and at no point did I ever feel like I was getting taken advantage of (which I know is everyone's fear). Even though we had to extend our budget and timeline, I felt good about each addition, and at the end of the day, we were so happy with the final results, especially our kitchen and floors! They did such a good job. We found several problems after demolition (water-leak, damaged floor from leaking refrigerator, crumbling brick-work). For each of these, Halina told me what was found, gave me some ideas on how to fix it, explained the potential impact on cost and timeline, and gave me her professional advice about the best approach. But at the end of the day, the information she provided helped me make my own decisions about how I wanted to spend my time and money, and that level of clarity was super helpful. At every juncture, I felt like I knew what we were investing in, and I also was confident that Halina was ultimately committed to delivering a quality product. After requesting numerous quotes from contractors like Aspiro and other "all-in" businesses with showrooms and designers clearly adding overhead costs reflected in their very often exorbitant price, what really made me decide to go with Halina for my bathroom and kitchen renovation project was that she was very friendly and detailed explaining how she would handle the project, and this made me very comfortable. She made me even more confident to hire her when her quote came in; detailed and reasonably priced. Was she the cheapest? No, but one of the most affordable, and I admit some lowball offers did scare me off by not disclosing the line item costs. Halina was more transparent, which was an important factor for me. To find a good contractor in NYC is as difficult to find your spouse. I was so glad to find the right one - Aspiro Renovations. My construction scope was to knock down walls, redo kitchen & bathroom completely, new wood floor and paint job. I've spent a very long time to look for and interview contractors. Either they didn't response at all or quoted a very high price. I was lucky to find Aspiro at the end. During the first brief meeting with Halina, I already knew Aspiro was the right one. Halina was very friendly and patient to explain how she would handle the project and it made me very comfortable and relief. After received the quote, it made me even had more confident to hire her. I really like the way how she breakdown each item of work individually. It was clear and detail. She would find ways to help you to save and work with your budget. During the almost 2 months constructions, we faced a lot of challenges and Halina's team helped me to solve all of them. They worked really hard and fast. They even finished earlier than scheduled. Aspiro Renovations is great. They provide top-notch craftsmanship. They do a neat and careful job, with minimal disruption, and clean up well afterwards. Among other things, I have had them install flooring, baseboard and crown molding, fix walls, paint, and install a complex bi-fold shower door. Also install lights, switches, and outlets. Removed and replaced wall sconces, railings, curtain rods. Removed, repainted and replaced radiators. They even hand-crafted a new attic hatch. On all of these things, they did a job of the highest quality. They're great at design, too. And I've used Aspiro to fix up, sometimes complete, work that had been done by other contractors who, sadly, were not the best. read more
