This place has a little of everything which is great but I feel like they should open more mainstream stores like h and m or forever 21. There's a great variety of curated stores which appeal to everyone from the young professional to the young adult to the young family to the straight up young. Spending an afternoon here with friends or the family is a pleasure and it's my usual go-to weekend activity when I have no agenda. Some of my favorite places to grab food and drinks are here, too, which makes the appeal that much greater. Because of its universal appeal, Assembly can get pretty crowded on a beautiful weekend afternoon. It's minutes away from home and surprisingly stocked with high quality shops and restaurants despite the otherwise ghetto surroundings. Came to the first Assembled event yesterday, and loved it. The Assembled marketplace will be open and running each Saturday from now until September 21st, with awesome craft and art vendors, plus food trucks! I hit up the Bon Me food truck, and had a delicious miso braised pulled pork sandwich and it totally hit the spot. Jesse went to the Frozen Hoagie truck, and had an ice cream sandwich the size of his head. It was two big Nutella cookies, with three scoops of ice cream inside, and required a spoon. He was pretty happy, though thought that it would be more of a pick up sort of dessert. Not really the case, but the few bites I had were delicious. We checked out a lot of the vendors, and my favorite was pretty jewelry found at the Demoiselle Designs tent, which I found a great necklace at. I had a gift certificate, but I do think I'll likely buy more goodies from there-they have some gorgeous stuff. I also really liked everything at Love on the Blocks, and there were a LOT of other great vendors that had fun stuff to check out that I'll have to pay more attention to when I am not packing a wiener dog next week. I'm really pumped to have this event happening each week so close to home, and imagine I'll be here each Saturday! read more

The marketing tries to convince you this is a new neighborhood, but let's be real -- it's an outlet mall with apartments on top. You'll get some good deals at the Adidas or the Banana Republic outlets, sure, and it beats going to Wrentham. And the movie theater is really nice. But in the end it's just a bunch of chain stores that you can find in any American suburb, and none of the places to eat I've tried are worth the trek. I don't think I want a Somerville renaissance if it means turning Somerville into Natick. (Also -- why on earth aren't the streets pedestrian-only? The entire place would be noticeably nicer without car traffic zipping through. Not like there isn't plenty of parking around the perimeter.) read more

Are you in or around the Somerville, MA area? If so, I highly recommend coming over our way and checking out the uber-local Assembled, the Handmade Arts Market at Assembly Row. It offers local artisans, music and some pretty darn delicious food trucks - if you ask me. ;) Did I also mention free admission?? I have the pleasure of living right across the street from the Assembly Row area, which most people know as the area of Somerville that has the Christmas Tree Shops. :P Whatever landmark you need to use is fine, but I think that gives most people an idea of where in the city this is located. Assembly Row is nestled between the Sullivan Square and Wellington stops on the Orange Line, but does offer ample free parking if you are stopping by while out and about. There is a booth where you can catch what Assembly Row should look like when it is completed next year with outlet shops, restaurants and a movie theater. They are even getting their very own orange line stop (Yes closer to my house!) They actually shut down a portion of the through street to hold the event. The info booth sort of acts as the separator between the artist booths and the food trucks. It makes it flow nicely. One one end of the street are all the amazing vendors - think Etsy type products! :) I am always impressed with such creative people so this area of the market always inspires me. There are folks out there selling art work, clothing, bird feeders, hand painted stemware, woodwork, home-made delicacies and so much more. Books made in to pocketbooks! How creative. I wish I was cool enough to come up with things like that. I'm just glad there are people out there than can ... and do! :) And then I caught the cutest dress in the corner of my eye and knew I had to grab it for my 'niece' Joanna. The booth was adorably designed all around ... I mean hello great use of sidewalk chalk! Sarah Joyce Designs and company easily won for cutest booth of the day! (She was sharing the booth with another designer) The Black and Red Lady Bug Pillow case Dress would be mine!! Then as we continued around the booths my other half spotted something she just had to have. There were a lot of cute things at this booth, but the thing she had to have was a piece of stemware. Yup, a beer stein with a painted mustache on it ... and matching shot glass! The big decision then was ... which mustache to pick! The tough choices in life... :P The booths were all amazing and I made sure to stop at each to really appreciate all the time and hard work that went into these pieces. After seeing such amazing artists and passing tent after tent of yummy fudges, popcorn and BBQ sauces, it was time to hit up the food side of the market! They had about half a dozen picnic table set up in the middle of the street with the 4 food trucks spread out on either side. It was wicked hard to decide which truck to try, but we finally picked the Away Cafe! We decided on the Sausage Basil Onion and the Smoked Pulled Pork. Boy was the decision tough - drunken chicken sounds pretty fantastic - but these were DELICIOUS!!! And we were lucky that on August 3rd the Dock Dogs were performing! The pups were adorable and some were making jumps for the first time. A little stage fright for a few, which made it even cuter when they finally did get in the water. read more

Love Assembly Row!! I go here all the time with my boyfriend and friends. There's plenty of restaraunts and shopping. Also the movie theater here is the best. Some of the stores are outlets, so you can get some good deals. Other are regular retailers. The parking garages are even nice and tell you how many spots are open on each floor. This mall is close by to where I live but i hardly come here. I think its decent though, has a nice layout and really convenient. As for someone saying that Somerville will become like Natick? an outlet mall doesn't change much of what Somerville already is only adds some much needed flavor and flair to a city that is catering to a increasingly "crunchy" crowd. I'm going to review the mall itself, not the stores that are located in here. I don't think Assembly Row is responsible for each store's customer service and pricing. The fact that there is a good variety of stores and they are mostly outlet stores with good pricing is pretty nice to have. The view of the Mystic is awesome during the spring/summertime and even has a serene beauty during the winter and fall. The cars driving around and stuff? It's a part of the layout, where people are actually feeling like they aren't at a mall but on a normal street and can enjoy the scenery and space. I think of it like Newbury St. in Boston but without all the snootiness and people walking around posing. Face it, Newbury St. is for people to "be seen". A lot more actual diversity exists in Assembly. The options for dining is nice, yet atypical of an outlet mall like this. Moderately priced fare for the convenience of shopping (no crummy food court options here). And if you drove, you can find a bunch of decent options nearby outside of the mall. All and all its a nice escape from what Somerville is without the hassle of going to downtown Boston. And this place actually has free parking. Plus who can complain when you actually have a TRAIN STOP for this place? geez it's like people will complain about anything even when it becomes TOO convenient. I laugh at those who cry about how they have to "fight" the cars that drive through here. . . Do you feel the same way when you walk around your neighborhood? The reason I am giving one star is because of parking. Many people park there and take the train, others just leave the car and uber to Boston. I have personally seen and heard from people. I drive Uber and have picked up people there, so they save money on uber because is close to the city (they don't want to take train at night on weekends) Parking is FREE anyway right? The city of Somerville should do something asap (like implementing gates for paid parking as the Galleria Mall) because people that go to restaurants or stores are not finding parking anymore. I see people driving frustrated there and because they didn't put stop lights in every intersection, pedestrians are constantly risking their lives when crossing the street too. The frustration is with everyone I talk to. The city recently put a sign stating parking limit is 3 hours but WHO is monitoring that?? Gster is a regular at AR. Given the amount of times he comes, it is actually shocking that I haven't been. His love for it has made me want to come scope it out. Overall, I was not impressed with some things (food), but was astounded by others (the environment, the feels, the movies)..... 1. Feasibility: It is very easy to get to. It is right off the highway, and has lots and lots of parking, that's free. Definitely one of the strengths to AR. 2. Environment: The environment is very trendy. It feels like a mini city, but then opens up to the beautiful ocean, which who knew Somerville had waterfront. It has lots of apartments over the stores, and 4 main strips of stores. The buildings are designed like all other new buildings, looking sleek, clean, and fancy. The area has lots of great landscaping. Overall, it is appealing to the eye and makes you feel that you are in a much different city than boston. 3. Shopping: The stores are iffy. Most appeal to the 22-35 year old. I give this age range because the stores are for younger aged (ie. Francesca's or Charlotte Rousse), but then also insanely pricey( Brookes Brothers and JCrew). Overall, there wasn't many stores that I was dying to go into, or that I couldn't go into in the city. I wasn't as impressed as I wanted to be. However, they are outlet stores, even though they may not say it. That hidden feature is definitely an asset. 4. Eating: The eating options are less than desirable. AR would be a win if they could get some decent food options. The only options really are expensive sports Bars, too expensive fancy bars, expensive mexican..... you catch the drift? Expensive, and limited options. If they got better/ more versatile/ more reasonably priced options, this would be a great place for a date night, or to get out of the city easily for food. After my time here, I don't think I would come here to eat. The prices, and the options are not what I would expect. 5. Things to do: This wins AR lots of points. An AMC, with easy parking, 10 min from the city.... oh and you can book it online and book your seats so you don't have to worry about craning your neck if your late! Definitely a plus. read more

This place is fine when there's not crazy congestion. Parking is typically a problem as there aren't enough surface lots and parking garages. There is some construction going on where one of the surface lots were and I hope it is to build a parking garage. There is a nearby t-stop nearby as a public transportation option. Assembly row consists primarily of outlets, restaurants and a theatre. The AMC theatre is nice and has assigned seating (seats do not recline). This is a good place to come during the week. In frank terms, Assembly row is an outlet mall, build by a developer with no vision, attention to human factors, or character. I love what they have done with this place! It's excellent to come to on a nice night, enjoy walking around and shopping after work. The New T stop is 5 min away. Excellent selection of restaurants and bars, nice stores, a movie theater, and the the spacious parking lot doesn't hurt. An amalgam of outlet style discount stores abound: Nike, Le Creuset, Barbour. Popular chain restaurant reside: Legal Seafood, River Bar, Paul, Papagayo. Whole family went now that the new train stop is open. Lego Discovery Center was our destination, but we had lunch and did some outlet shopping as well. Plenty of parking if you wanted to drive. The new train stop is beautiful and the location on the Mystic River is very scenic (who would have thought?). You can see the boats at Winter Hill Yacht Club and even looking at Mystic Power Plant is kinda cool with the giant fan. There is a nice selection of shops and a few restaurants. Legal on Mystic is open and looks nice, however we refuse to ever set foot in a Legal again (story for another day). I really hope Earl's (Canadian chain) turns out to be a good place. It wasn't opened yet but they have a great outdoor dining setup with umbrellas and gas heaters. JP Licks is a personal favorite from when I lived in Newton Center. When it gets done it's going to be pretty spectacular and it's definitely a destination worth seeking out. Next time we are going to bring our bikes and try the new bike path along the Mystic River. There looks to be some nice walking paths and a cool little playground. read more

What can I say? I love this place. I think it's now my "to go" place for shopping. I came here in the summer months when half the stores were not yet even opened. I didn't know what to expect since the layout seemed small compared to other outlets in the North East. There was no food or rest area and the bathrooms were makeshift porta potties. I returned again mid-November when most of the stores opened. This time around I was very impressed with the outlet. So much so I visited a few times the same week. Shopping here is gorgeous at night, despite the cold North East winds. The outlet is laid out in front of a pier. It makes for a very beautiful scenic view if one wants to dine at the various classy waterfront restaurants. Parking is a breeze; indoor and outdoor lots are available, FREE may I add. What this outlet lacks in size is made up in the great selection of goods. I don't know how long the sales last for, but almost every place was 50% off entire store. My favorite is Wilsons Leather. Some others I enjoy visiting are Banana Republic, Nike, and Puma. There are also JP licks, AMC, and Lego Land. A trip here is a day of fun all packed in one. Another positive note, the outlet finally installed real restrooms. It's located near Strides, somewhere down a corridor to one of the indoor parking lots. One thing I regret from my trips is not dining at one of the restaurants. I'll have to return and try one out one day. read more

I used to love this place but these days the quality has slipped. The movie theatre was nice and it had a lot of nice restaurants to eat at before or afterwards. Now the place is just a zoo. It is in a constant state of construction and the parking and traffic situation is just getting worse. To top it all off the parking is no longer free. It is free for the first 3 hours and after that they begin to charge. Unfortunately movies these days are commonly 2+ hours so it is getting harder and harder to go out to dinner before hand. Additionally they still haven't worked out all the kinks with their "credit card ticketless" system. I was stuck inside one of the garages trying to get out and had to try other lanes until one of them finally worked. I understand that we need parking restrictions to keep people moving and to free up spots but it seems like the traffic just got worse with the new parking situation and the systems cause longer lines than they fix. read more

There is also a nice walking path along the river that is really pretty. Its right on the T, so its easily accessible for every one. They have a huge parking garage and there are a few parking lots. The pros: excellent movie theater, decent collection of shopping and dining in a walkable cluster. JP Licks! The cons: used to be a "drivable" escape from the city if you wanted an afternoon out without all the typical stress of Boston. However, finally, Assembly Row's success has caught up with it. It is collapsing under its own popularity and cannot support the volume of people that (mostly drive) out to the location. Parking is difficult and is not free in the garage anymore (unless you get out in under 3 hours - were you here to see a movie?). "Farther" lots have been designated "retail employee parking only." Several intersections are in desperate need of traffic lights - someone is likely to get hurt in the frustrated spaghetti of cars slithering to and from the garage. Bottom line: We primarily went here for the movie theater and a little shopping on the side. 2 years ago this was a 5 star place to go. It has gradually degraded to the point where we are seeking other options. The stress of going here has gone from "a relaxed escape" to "more of the same." read more

I went today and found several vendors were selling things that were not handmade, like homey little statues of dogs. I'm giving Assembly Row a poor rating because the public bathroom near the Carter/ Osh Kosh store has been increasingly disgusting for the last couple of months. There is NEVER any toilet paper, water everywhere, broken locks, and it smells terrible. Due to the HEAVY traffic, it should be cleaned at least few times a day. Other than that, Assembly Row is a great place to go to. It's fun to walk around, look in the stores, and grab a bite to eat. I can't wait for the new stores and restaurants to open. read more

Assembly Row is everything you want out of a shopping / entertainment complex: it has excellent shops, awesome restaurants, outdoor beer gardens and bars, ice cream, a giant modern AMC movie theater that serves alcohol, toy stores for the kids, the biggest sports bar in town for gamedays, public transportation, Starbucks, and even a park by the water, complete with a playground. Visited for the first time this week and don't think the area is anything special. Agree with other posters about the roads/sidewalks since it makes no sense to have cars driving through the area. Overall signage getting to the area could be better. The asphalt in the parking lot on the Home Depot side is riddled with potholes. Considering how new this area is it seems they certainly awarded the paving contract to the lowest bidder with no consideration for quality. If I were a man I'd feel a bit left out - Brooks Brothers, J. Crew and Banana Republic are pretty much the only places for them to get clothes. read more
