HSC is an off site campus for graduate programs such as occupational therapy, physical therapy,…read morepharamcy and USC Keck medical school. They have a bookstore, credit union, starbucks , post office and food court. It is surrounded by LAC USC Medical Center, USC Norris Cancer Center and Keck Hospital. As an alumni from graduate school of social work from USC,I often like to come on campus to eat, buy new USC gears and buy event tickets. This place is full of school spirit and it is clean. I love it here. Parking is free so it is easiler to get here vs the main campus. Also, if you want something in the bookstore and they don't have it. They can order it from main campus and call you when it gets here. They have great customer service

Much has changed since the last reviewer's post on HSC…read more There is a gym now! It's quite far down on Soto (the other side of the train track; next to Lincoln Park). There's a shuttle (the bus is labeled by 8.5" by 11" white paper that says, "Soto Building") that takes you to the gym. It comes every 20minutes starting at 6AM until 8PM. And I think the bus driver said that after 4PM, the frequency of the shuttle increases. The gym smells "new." All the equipment are new. There are lockers you can use on a per day basis (bring your own lock but nothing remains in the locker at the end of the day.) And you can check out towels for free. There's shower, bathroom, water fountain, and even studying lounges. It is no longer possible to find a broken meter. The county has upgraded all the neighboring meters with the credit card version so you don't even have an excuse for not having coins. The meter only runs from 8AM-8PM, but since the library closes by midnight, it may not be practical to only come on campus after 8. Of course, you can always park a little farther where there are no parking meters... but that's another story. There is really nothing to do around the campus and safety can be an issue after the sun sets. The food selection is also very scarce. Everything on campus can only be described as, "I had better elsewhere." There is a post office on campus. And if you have the intercampus code (can be found online in the directory), you can send stuff to main campus offices for free. If you're a student, you can also purchase tickets to amusement parks and entertainments at a discounted price. (If only they can take $20 off of Disneyland ticket... com'on, $3 off? Why even bother...?)

This is a cautionary tale:…read more Cal State LA's downtown location is a nice facility with some programs designed to help you acquire your degree. Unfortunately, their care, cost, and execution are lies. My wife is finishing up her bachelor's degree this semester and has talked to counselors many times during her 2 years as a Golden Eagle. CSULA has waited until now, weeks into her final semester, to inform her that they will not accept a general education class and one of the major courses does not count (which was selected by the program, not her). This means we will pay for the "all inclusive" program and now for additional classes out of pocket for her to finish her degree. I toured schools with her and while CSULA put people out that said they cared, they actually are unable to care for their students because they lack the ability to council them and provide the degree they advertised. If you are considering CSULA's downtown program for convenience, I beg you to consider elsewhere, as they have left us high and dry to pay a premium for these night classes, but also pay for additional classes now that they have mismanaged her schedule over the course of 2 years. It seems it would be easy for educators and administration to admit their fault and offer to correct the problem under the cost of the special program, but instead we have been met with an explanation that amounts to "this is a YOU problem" and a hands off attitude. I hope their professors leave for other schools and their program implodes so that others can learn from great professionals while not getting swindled by what's apparently a greedy administration who has used this opportunity to upsell additional courses. In dealing with many people who can or could choose to fix this problem, Debra Meir is the one with the ability and position to solve this problem. She is largely responsible for being the person who is not accepting school accountability for mismanagement of scheduling, lacking oversight of courses needed, and adding additional cost to an "all in one price" program.
