My son attended Brighton from first through eighth grade and my daughter started in preschool and is now in sixth grade. My kids are completely different and they have both absolutely thrived at Brighton. Brighton does an awesome job of providing an excellent well-rounded education for many different types of learners and kids. Brighton offers an excellent academic program, but also offers an amazing drama program with Mr. DC, some great sports programs, after school extracurriculars, yearly overnight field trips that get longer with each grade level and culminate in a 10 day East Coast trip for the 8th graders, etc. The greatest asset to Brighton is its staff. Brighton attracts some truly talented, caring and highly invested staff and teachers. There are teachers at Brighton who have truly changed the course of my childrens' lives. Ms. (formerly Gabriel) Savage is my daughter's idol. Ms. Savage is the perfect role model for my child, as she is strong, confident, smart, kind and encouraging. My daughter is a gymnast and she has talked to my daughter about mental blocks. She is a great teacher but she clearly cares about her students in a way that goes beyond what her job requires. Her assistant Ms. Carrie is also so caring, patient and kind. Ms. Durbin is another teacher that made a real difference in my daughter's life. Ms. Durbin was like a second mother to my daughter, or my daughter's stand-in mother at school. My daughter has always had a ton of anxiety about overnight field trips, but knowing that Ms. Durbin would be on the field trip always made her feel better. Ms. Durbin knew when to be serious and get the class under control but could also be so silly and have fun with the class. Mr. DiLorenzo is another incredible asset to the Brighton community. Mr. D. was my child's third grade teacher, and he was an incredibly gifted educator then, and now he is the head of the middle school. Mr. D. can be so fun and silly with the kids, but he also knows when to be serious and address serious issues. My son had an awesome middle school experience at Brighton and during his years there built up a community of friends who carried over into the same high school. Ms. Livingston has been serving the Brighton middle school for years in various capacities and she is AMAZING!!!! She is currently teaching math and she is an awesome math teacher, but she also handles a lot of the administrative stuff for the middle school. She's very friendly, great with the kids, great with the parents, and easy to get along with. Ms. Bodnar, according to my 17 year old son, is "the GOAT" (greatest of all time). Ms. Bodnar teachers study skills and math (I think) but she connects with the kids in a way that few others do. My son emphatically thinks that she is the best teacher at Brighton. Ms. Thaler is also a great language arts teacher. She definitely knows what she is doing and I appreciate that she actually challenges the kids. This is Ms. Parks Lobbs' first year as Head of School, but she has been involved with other parts of the school for years and she appears to be 100% in charge of what is happening and in control of things. As a very long-time parent of Brighton who has observed three separate Heads of School, I think Ms. Parks Lobb is doing a great job. There are a lot of other amazing staff members at Brighton who I am going to forget to mention. We love Coach Matt, who is the kindest, funniest guy to have around. He always greets my daughter in the morning with the biggest smile and it makes me feel so good about dropping her off. He also love Coach Brandon, who has been there for years and is super well loved by all the kids. He made the summer camp a blast for my daughter. We really loved Ms. Becca, who is a former aide who is no longer there. We wish the school brought her back. My son had Ms. Schippers for both hers and his first year at Brighton (first grade) and she made him feel super welcome and safe. I don't remember the full names of my daughter's pre-K teacher and aide (the aide was Sarah) but they were both so amazing! Oh yeah, the parents, kids and community at Brighton are also awesome. Both my kids have made amazing friends and we have done all the playdates, the sleepovers, the skate nights (thanks, PTO!), all of it. My son has friends he literally made in FIRST GRADE and now are JUNIORS in high school and they are part of the same friend group and in some of the same advanced classes. My daughter and her best friends met years ago, some as far back as preschool. I've known those parents just as long. The parents are great and the PTO is currently thriving. I've never been involved in the PTO, but I am very, very grateful for the amazing parents who run it and all that they do. Best money we ever spent!

With 3 kids who have spanned the range if preschool, elementary, and middle school, I can say the middle school especially has exceeded expectations. Initially, I was nervous because of its smaller size, but it's been fabulous, the teachers embrace the middle school years while preparing students for real-world situations. We've had the honor of having both Ms. Shippers and Ms. Savage twice. Ms. Shippers has years of experience yet brings fresh enthusiasm every day, and Ms. Savage's connection with the kids is remarkable. Brighton truly offers a nurturing, dynamic environment we're so grateful for!

The curriculum at Soundview really stresses these principles and we see the impact in the day to day interactions we have with our kids. We find our kids sharing freely, expressing their emotions, and asking thoughtful questions. We find the teachers, staff, and administration really address all of our concerns throughout the year and have an open door policy. The teachers also really prioritize communication with parents. There are regular parent teacher conferences and the teachers always send you message if your kids are having a tough day.

We had a tour of the facility and were enamored of it before we were accepted. One of our daughters was in the Pre-K class, the other in preschool, and they went there nearly a full year. The teachers themselves were great. We loved them, they seemed very good at their jobs. The facilities were also good. The kids get a lot of opportunities to do some really cool stuff, and there are frequent field trips. The initial downside was that their communication skills were terrible. Emails from the administration wouldn't distinguish that the school part was closed (but not the childcare facility) for holidays. Our youngest wasn't potty trained (we tried!) before she started, and they refused to let her stay in pull-ups, so we ended up going through as many as four sets of clothes per day. The staff was terrible at telling us if we were running low on clothes and I ended up having to leave work mid-afternoon one day because my daughter was out of clean clothes. A fund-raiser we signed up for was pizza lunches every Wednesday. It was advertised as "skip making a lunch once a week", but when I stopped sending in lunches, I got an email from them telling me I wasn't meeting the state requirements on lunches and needed to supplement the pizza meals. We raised the discrepancy between the promises on the fundraiser promo-sheet and the reality with the childcare center's director, only to see the exact same flier used the next semester. The worst part of the experience was the early-morning drop-off. Before 8am, all of the children (regardless of age) were placed in the same room. Washington State laws require that in mixed groups, you use the age of the youngest child to determine required ratios. There were 2 year olds in with 5+ year olds, and the required ratio of 1 teacher for every 7 students was almost always violated during this time, or nearly violated. There was usually 2-3 teachers for 20+ children, and it was very chaotic. My girls ended up hating being left in the morning, and we ended up spending 5-15 minutes consoling them before feeling comfortable leaving them. The final straw that made us take the girls out was the morning we arrived and there was only 1 teacher for 16+ 2-4 year olds in the room. Older kids were taking toys from the younger, boys were rough-housing in the corner, the room was pure chaos. After waiting 5 minutes for another teacher to show up, I ended up having to go to the school principle to get more staff in the room before I felt comfortable leaving my daughters there. When I complained about the teacher ratios and having to track down extra staff, I was given a non-apology and told that if my daughters had difficult with the early-morning hour that I should bring them into school at a later time of the day. We took the girls out of Fairview shortly after that. It pains me to have to write up a review such as this one, but I don't think it's fair for any of the future parents considering this school to not have some insights into the problems that we had to deal with there.

When my son was in the child care center part of the school, he was always excited to get to school in the morning, which is a great feeling if you are a parent, to know that your son loves where he spends the majority of his day. Mrs. Foster was his teacher in the Frog class, and I have nothing but good things to say about her. My review is about the kindergarten program. I chose Fairview partly because of their small class sizes, and when I met Mrs. McGuire, the kindergarten teacher, I was really excited for what was to come. She definitely does not disappoint! My son can be a handful, and Mrs. McGuire is firm but kind in her expectations of her class and doesn't let him get away with his antics. He has absolutely thrived in the environment she has created. She has helped him grow in his love for God, makes learning incredibly fun, and is a loving, invested teacher. Every one of her students loves her! The other great thing about this school is that they have both before and after care on site, due to the fact that they are a child care center as well. This is very helpful as I am not out of work at 3:15 every day. To anyone considering Fairview, I would highly recommend enrolling your child there!

This school is based off of antiquated fundamentalist Christian ideals and the staff have no interest in teaching children about the true love of Christ. I was 11 years old when my parents decided to move me to this "school" and it was worst decision they could have ever made for me. I was placed in Laura Young's 5th grade class and she personally attacked and victimized me every chance she got, even though I was only a young child. I was shunned by other staff members, teachers and students alike simply because I liked girly things such as wearing lip gloss or nail polish. Teachers would tell students not to eat lunch with me because I was "too sinful" so I spent most of my time there alone. It was incredibly damaging to my self-esteem as a young child. As far as the education goes, sure, it was better than the average public school but a good education didn't make up for the horrific treatment that I experienced at the hands of the faculty and their offspring. Laura Young made our 5th grade class memorize the declaration of independence word for word. Let me tell you that as someone who now works at one of the largest corporations in the United States and makes well over six figures a year, memorizing the declaration of independence did absolutely nothing to aid me in my career (or in any part of my life for that matter). I have looked at the current faculty as of 2023 and I still see some of the same faces that I did when I was in attendance at this school. Those same teachers and administrators tormented me, all in the name of God. Word to the wise...if you value your child's wellbeing and spiritual health, stay very far away from this school. There are plenty of other Christian schools in the area that still offer a good education, without the extreme judgment and psychological abuse that your child will no doubt experience if enrolled in this utter pathetic excuse for a school.

One of my children has sensory needs and the structure and amazing teachers really helped her work through a lot of hurdles. She graduated with confidence personally and educationally for the next steps ahead. My other child loves being a part of the group and his favorite time of day is "circle time" where the children explore topics such as the sound of the week building on reading skills and socially sharing about different items from their homes. It's a pretty special place and we would highly recommend. For an extended morning, lunch bunch is a great way to make the session 1 hour longer and the kids get to eat together and play inside/outside after school.

We came from a Montessori school in a different city that had outside play before and after and spending the whole session in the classroom is not an issue at all. There's a park outside where people often meet after class and lunch bunch available for and extended hour. Plenty of social emotional learning happens in the classroom through shared activities. If you're looking for a real preschool experience for your child we would recommend Edmonds Montessori in a heartbeat.
