After a long day of touring and shopping in Berlin we stumbled across Asteria and decided to give it a try based on the positive reviews. We arrived at 6/18:00 and took an outside table. The place was empty but we reminded ourselves that dinner starts a bit later here. We were greeted with a complimentary Ouzo shot (which continued to be refilled) & started with the Tarama. The dip came in 4 scoops and was pink. Although I've never seen pink Tarama, It wasn't the best Tarama that I've ever had and was okay. (But wouldn't order this one again) We also ordered Spanakopita which we enjoyed. For main, we had the "grilled meat for one"which was excellent (tasty grilled chicken, pork & Gyros!) but is really "Grilled meat for 2 or 3." We ended up sharing this which was a good idea as we couldn't finish it. After dinner, we received complimentary Cognac, espresso and dessert (fruit, yogurt) which was a nice touch and the restaurant was packed by the end of our meal. We went again to try more dishes. Food wise I'd rate Asteria 3 stars due to the price-value ratio (rating is purely based on vegetarian and fish options). The salmon was very oily but tasty. Not special in any way, simply grilled. Overall the dishes are large and greasy and heavy. 90% of the people here eat meat. The mussels appetizer we didn't really enjoy (personal preference). The appetizer plate allowed us to taste a bit from everything. What's good are the grilled eggplants and the white creamy dip (not tzaziki). Besides that I'd also recommend to skip the plate, everything else was ok. Why would I still give 4 stars? - The Service is very thoughtful! You get free shots and if you don't drink them, they have us espresso for free. You get fruits at the end. The FREE shots. It kept coming. This review may or may not been heavily influenced by the gratuitous shots of Ouza we received. Or the free fruit plate dessert. Or the complimentary espresso and Haribo candy. Or the kisses on the cheek by the handsome Greek waiters. ;-) Nope. Not at all. One of our best meals in Berlin. Service was fantastic. We ordered a small serving of the gyros covered in cheese (absolutely delicious) and the Asteria for 1... which would have fed 2-3. The first time I was there with friends for dinner, he recommended it this place, so liked to give it a try. And Wow, what a great Greek restaurant! I believe this is one of the best I tried so far in Berlin. I always love Greek food, this place sure became one of the place I will keep coming. Asteria is quite easy to find, it is right next to U-Bahn station Eberswalder Straße. When you get out of the station just like around, surely you could find it very soon. The design of restaurant is quite nice, classic and comfortable. I usually will take the site outside though, if it isn't too cold. The food here are not only delicious, but also enough to make you full to sweat. I like the meats here a lot, specially the grill dishes. It tasted fantastic. Some side dishes are very good as well, they also got quite friendly service. The price is totally acceptable. We really enjoyed our dinner here. It perfectly match my taste. We came to this place for dinner, and was immediately welcomed by two waiters who snapped to attention as soon as I began to ask for a table. As soon as we sat down, we were served shots of ouzo which were refilled even if only two sips were gone. For drinks, I ordered a Greek mocha that was like a watered down espresso shot, and a friend ordered banana juice out of curiosity. It ended up being pretty good! For food, we ordered an Asteria plate and gyros in a cheese sauce to share. It was pretty good, but it was a lot of meat and some turned out to be a little too salty. We also got free salad and fruit! The service (and the free stuff) is what bumped this review up a star. The waiters were extremely friendly and gave us English menus; they made the atmosphere comfortable and inviting. This place is also very family-friendly. I saw staff give kids large Asteria-labeled balloons, and they have high chairs to accomodate younger children. By far the best restaurant we've been to in berlin. The food was great. We had the salmon and lamb fillet. Although, I suggest getting the lamb shank as the filet tasted like steak. Excellent bang for the buck! Came here while visiting Berlin with my father. First impression: free ouzo! Second impression: wow unlimited free ouzo. Anyways, we ordered one of the recommended appetizers, grilled halloumi with vegetables, and for entrees stuffed peppers with rice and chicken in metaxasauce, and everything was great! The meal also came with a free side starter salad (lettuce, carrots, dressing - yummy) and fruit to end. Great service, would recommend. This restaurant had the best service out of any restaurant I've ever been to. You get seated very quickly and are served complementary ouzo and anise shots. They refill these shots throughout service and keep the liquor coming. Larger tables had pitchers of these shots placed on their table. After we ordered the waiters and owner kept checking up on us. At the end they provided complementary espresso with the bill. I went to this restaurant on a week day and it was packed. EVERYONE there was laughing and having a great time. I was skeptical about the reviews mentioning all the Ouzo but it's entirely true! The friendly staff kept the ouzo coming all night. The fruit plate and espresso were nice additions as well. We started with the fried feta, garlic bread, pita with tzatziki and spanikopita (it was a large group...) The pita with tzatziki was very good; flavorful and crisp on the outside. However the rest of the dishes were unremarkable. Dinner began with a salad that was unnecessary, weak lettuce and a salty dressing. The portions were huge. I ordered a ground meat that was juicy and flavorful with a grilled exterior, it was amazing. The rice on the side seemed to be an after thought and was room temperature and bland. I also tasted the pork skewers which were really delicious, a great texture. The gyros are amazing, some of the best I've ever tasted. This is a great find, an all around great experience. read more

Amazing place for Greek food. The family that owns it all pour their heart into their work and love what they do. The menu is huge and has food for all types of eaters, aside from vegans (sorry vegans!). The plates are quite large for one sitting, maybe you're better off sharing two plates with your date or friends. Most meals come with a salad that is brought to you before your meal as an appetizer. Along with your meal, you get unlimited free shots of Ouzo. They insist on refilling your shot glasses, so keep them full until the end of the night! For the prices, they are standard Berlin prices. What you get in your meal is totally worth it. Not only do you pay around 10-15 € for your plate, but after you're finished, you get free complementary fruit on the house and a free espresso. read more

Here's how to do this: go late, preferably on a Friday or a Saturday unless you're on vacation or don't have work the next day. Split an app and a meat dish (there's way too much meat in one dish for one person). Get the unlimited shots of ouzo. My friend and I each had 8. Yes, 8. The last shot we said no thank you and the guy said "too late". You also get free fruit plates (multiple), a free salad, and a free espresso when you pay. But mostly the shots of ouzo. The food itself is fine - again, too much meat but fine. But the free shots tho. Anyways, go late, get drunk, go out afterwards and only spend a few bucks on drinks. read more

Had a dinner with a friend earlier this evening at the terrace which was absolutely full (quite a rare thing on a Monday evening). It was a Greek restaurant in German style - meaning: I guess that a true Greek would have find the "schnitzel" in the menu quite out of place, but it seemed quite okay with everyone else there. Service is friendly and flexible - we asked to change the side dish of the Gyros to something which is not listed on the side dish options but on the "starters" and the waitress said "no problem" (and charged us no extra charge, although it was priced almost double as the "fixed" side dishes). The meat was really good, the main course was huge (I mean, I knew in advance that we should not have to order an extra starter, but still). Only one thing about the salad (they served a "side" salad with the main course): French dressing?! Really?! in a bloody Greek restaurant?! A good old olive oil extra virgin with more tomatoes and olives would have upgraded the all thing. If you're in Schoenhauser Allee, worth stopping by. read more

We trusted the Yelp reviews and went there yesterday evening but I really don't understand how it can have such a rating. Yes, they do offer free ouzo and the portions are huge, but that's about it. I guess the booze helped to improve the ratings ;-) Let's get to the food, we ordered a mixed platter of grilled meat and seafood. My first complain is the greek salad, we got lettuce and shredded carrots in a mayo sauce, that was it. Nowhere we had olives, tomatoes, cucumbers etc. A huge let down and honestly a joke for any Greek place. The meat in mixed grill was overcooked and dry, also there were no sides only meat and the small lettuce salad. The seafood was even worse, the salmon filet was tasteless, the baked fish was completely soggy and dripping from oil, the calamari were what you get in the supermarket to through in the oven. The highlight was a baked potato that came with the seafood. I most certainly won't go back there and I hope other reviewers on Yelp will also focus more on the food and not only on the free Ouzo and the huge portions. We ate here on our first night in Berlin - we grabbed the only remaining table outside on a Monday night. The waiters were friendly and enthusiastic and made you feel welcome. The food was outstanding. I had the lamb shank in a tomato base sauce with pearl onions and my wife had pork medallions which were cooked to perfection. The waiters brought around bottles of ouzo for free shots - there were several birthday parties. It was more like a Greek family type experience.
