Very good selection of paint colors , brands , painting supplies and most important for me , good friendly honest advice from the employee behind the counter that was greatly appreciated from someone who ain't handy at all . Absolutely disgusting and objectifying comments coming from the men who work there to my wife. She had headphones on so they thought she couldn't hear them. The employees even noticed she wasn't sure which isle the stuff we needed was in and made jokes about her being lost instead of trying to help. I've used this place for months, but neither of us will ever walk in there again. If you cannot control yourself when a woman walks by, then you have no business being out in public. I've been coming here for a few months now, for all-things "hardware." What might that look like, you might ask? Well, here it is: floating shelves (didn't end up buying them from here because I am picky AF), leaky faucet issue, some screws and bolts that were needed for mounting my TV, and alas, a door lock! What I love most about this place: Great customer service. The reps are always so nice, knowledgeable and helpful. What I don't love about this place: The hours. 6am to 6pm on weekdays. Uhm, this is NYC and people work late. But I've made my way in the early AM hours, before work, so at least we have that option. Yesterday, they were particular helpful (I first called to see if they were open because - COVID-nineteen!) while serving people at the door, armed with masks and gloves. I bought my door lock (and after installing the one the locksmith recommended), I have to now return it when the store will reopen. (Only God know when that will be!) read more

My boyfriend and I always come here for hardware stuff and paint. We just painted three rooms in our apartment and we bought everything from here. They have what you need and the staff is friendly, accommodating, and knowledgable. The last time I went here I asked for four gallons of paint and the man working was nice enough to tell me that I could get five gallons for less money. That alone should tell you this is the kind of place you want to spend your money. We'll be back! read more

I am not a professional painter and I am not in any way "handy" whatsoever, but the guys at Astoria Paint Place were so patient with me walking me through the pros and cons to different finishes and helped direct me to brushes and drop clothes within my budget and for my skill level. Everything was clearly labeled and well lit, prices were also more affordable than other paint / contractor locations in Astoria. Will definitely be directing friends and family to them for all future paint uses! read more

Even though we got everything for painting our apartment from the home depot. We forgot to buy a ladder. I had seen this place around the corner, so I decided to walk over. They had 3 people working there, I walked in and they all looked at me and proceeded to drink their coffee and continue talking. umm ok. strike 1 so I'm looking around for a ladder. find one but there is no price on it, I walk on over asking them for a price, apparently none of them knew how much it cost. proceeded to look through a catalog for 10 minutes. strike 2 found a price of 250 for a ladder. ummm ya. do you have another cheaper. He showed me one, and I said I would take it. so I'm sitting there as he is writing a receipt. then he goes around back and is talking about some bar with one of his boys for another 10 minutes. strike 3 never again oh ya, extremely over priced read more

Decided to skip Home Depot & buy supplies here. Paint selection is limited to Benjamin Moore, but we found every color we were looking for. Went up to the counter with samples and the employee was very thorough in asking what kin of sheen we wanted, how big the walls were that we were painting, etc. He gently tried an upsell to a gallon of paint, but was ok when we opted for less. He also helped us pick a rugged primer & explained how to use it. He wanted to make sure we had good ventilation in our apartment. We nabbed all the supplies we needed, including a few handy tools that we didn't know existed (combo tape/drop cloth, paper drop instead of plastic). We got everything we needed to paint 3 accent walls with heavy-duty primer, for well under $200. I'm satisfied with my experience & stoked to do some painting! read more

Stunned by the incompetence I experienced here today. Just needed two copies each of my two apartment keys. Handed the guy the originals--he made two copies of the apartment door key, and then took the original street door key and carved that one too into a copy of the apartment door key before he realized his mistake. So I now had three copies of my apartment door key, and no key at all for my street door. This place locked me out of my own house. So if you take your keys here to make copies, make sure somebody is home to let you back in. read more

I completely agree withe Armin's review. I went in at 8:30am, on my way to work to get some info and prices on primer and paint for some bookshelves I am building. The man behind the counter was, for some unknown reason, reluctant to answer any of my questions. The entire time I was talking to him he was looking up at the TV, watching a world cup game and not even dignifying my presence, much less helping get what I needed for my project. He did not act at all the same way with the guy before me who he seemed to know. Finally, I just gave up. I switched to speaking in Spanish and talking about the world cup, which seemed to kind of confuse him, since I don't necessarily look at first glance like I speak Spanish. But whatever, I am not saying there was any kinda cultural thing going on.... my point is simply that I was not getting any customer service whatsoever. So now, I am going to Home Depot, where incidentally I expect not to be able to find anybody to help me : ) read more

Recently bought paint and supplies here and the buying experience was good, however the custom paint we bought was not mixed well and the bottom of the can had flecks of strong red/brown, like undissolved specks of solid color that was unnoticeable until spread on the wall (the paint we bought was Pearly Gates, 190). This ruined our last coat. Explained to store and they refused to assist, saying if we had brought sooner they could help, but not at the end, which is ridiculous since the problem was at the bottom of the can! Will need to redo hours of labor and wasted all the $ on paint and supplies. Expect better service when the issue is faulty product. read more
