WHY ARE THEY USING TICKETMASTER!! It simply doesn't work. My friend and I (and other people there) had the same issue, not being able to sign in and download the tickets. Very frustrating and I was ready for a fight. The person at the box office was very helpful and explained that you do not have to purchase tickets through ticketmaster. We've been here several times for shows over the years and it's always an amazing experience. Their website says to arrive an hour early for parking, walking and security checks but we've always been able to park close ($10 parking charge) and walk in quickly through security. I appreciate the extra security checks and metal detectors for everyone's safety. Check their website for different packages and deals especially if you're bringing children. Also, make sure you check for security updates. It's pretty common knowledge I think but only small, clear bags can be brought into the theatre. Masks are optional. They have fun theme cocktails for $10 and lots of food and snack options like cheese & crackers, sandwiches, candy, huge brownies etc. Prices are a little steep but not shockingly high. Ushers are posted near each section of doors going into the theatre to guide you to your seats. The rows are pretty steep and narrow making it a bit precarious to navigate but the view of the stage is good. Not a bad seat in the house. We saw "Lion King" on our last visit and it was AMAZING!! Exceptional actors, music and very visually dynamic! A wonderful experience that exceeded all expectations. read more

Parking was easy and my husband and I were impressed by how quickly we could exit by car, there was no wait! The staff is friendly and helpful in finding your seat. There is a metal detector check upon entrance and a bag policy so make sure to check that before coming. I did see they had a bag check table outside if you didn't want to take your larger purse back to your car (not sure how secure it is). The drink price was $10 per drink and they were strong! Worth it in my opinion. We saw Annie and the show was excellent. We will definitely look into coming to more shows here! read more

To begin, the plays at ASU Gammage are wonderful. It is the reason I became a donor ticket holder after a few years. I also believe in their message of helping aspiring performers. However, the parking situation is atrocious and ineptly handled. Twice I have been told I can not park in the parking lot that my ticket indicated (The Gold Lot) and have been forced to park several blocks away. As a senior, one of the reasons I purchased these tickets is that the parking lot is the closest to the theatre. Even though it was evident that there were spots open, the policeman told us we could not enter and would have to go to another lot. So we did. However, by the time we got to the entrance again, the policeman was letting people in the Gold Lot again. So this time I stopped, and asked him why we were denied and now cars were going in. He simply said that he was told not to let anyone in even with a gold parking lot ticket unless they were a donor. Now he did not ask if I was a donor, he only told me that I could not park there. There were no instructions on my parking ticket that stated I would have to identify myself as a donor in order to be let in. What an absolute mess. Additionally, when I called on Monday to speak to the ASU Gammage ticketing staff, they absolved themselves of any responsibility by stating it was not their problem, it was ASU's (the university??) problem. Talk about passing the buck round and round. I think they owe me a parking refund on my donation since they do not honor their parking obligations. And ASU Gammage needs to stop passing that responsibility to other departments since they are the company that sells the show and parking tickets as bundle. read more

Wen to ASU gammage and saw Hamilton! The show was amazing and the cast was spectacular. People always will complain about the parking for Gammage being terrible. Yes, I agree, it's not the best, but when you get the email with confirmation for your tickets, you're warned to get their an hour early or park at one of the garages nearby instead. If you do that, then it's a breeze and there's not an issue! Overall ASU Gammage was a good experience. The show is 5/5 for sure, but the venue has a few things left to be desired. You have to make sure that you get a seat that is not on the edges, and much more centered, otherwise you may not be able to see some of the play. The sound is great and I feel that even though I sat in the second level, I could audibly understand everything that the actors/actresses were saying and singing. But if you are concerned about hearing well, ASU Gammage offers headsets that you can wear during the play so you can hear everything clearly, at no extra charge either! They also have multiple concession stands inside so you can grab a glass of wine, a soda, some water, or some light snacks to munch on during the show. I purchased 3 tickets to Wicked and all three of us had extreme difficulty hearing any of the actors words. There are absolutely no speakers on the sides or in the back like a movie theater. Btw, I am no theater connoisseur or sound expert however, we just saw Jersey Boys at the Phoenix theater company and we had absolutely no problem hearing the actors at all. This place may have good acoustics, but the sound system for wicked was absolutely horrible. For the price that I paid for these three tickets, I'm just disappointed at the quality of sound or amplification. read more

Couldn't decide whether this was a four or five star .. went with the five star .. it is an older theater but that's ok because the shows, the location, the staff all get it done .. you will find parking but there will be a line and or a fee.. followed by a walk to the theater When you go to a movie in 2018.. you get your own recliner.. here you get small seats with small aisles so get here early so you're not climbing over people to get to your seat.. The quality of the shows is top notch, quality of the sound is good, the pop up bars put out good drinks and the sweet treats look amazing .. plus people leave here in a great mood .. read more

Visited ASU Gammage last night for the first time to watch the magnificent Dance Theatre of Harlem performance. The show was absolutely amazing and Gammage was the perfect place to host this event. I loved the fact that they had open seating. Giving those of us who are early birds first dibs on the good seats. I can't wait for the next show. Me and my family has a great time. read more

The inside of Gammage is generally very crowded before the shows begin. Sometimes there are random groups of people standing in the middle of the walkway rather than along the walls and people have to weave around those groups of individuals. I liked that Gammage renovated the women's restroom very much. It made using the restroom during intermission a lot easier. There was even a female employee in the restroom telling the ladies which stalls were unoccupied. I think that my impression of Gammage generally changes with the shows I watch. I recently saw Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I didn't see as much special visual effects as I have seen with other musicals. I generally also like musicals better than plays. Usually the theater gets cold after the show begins so I would recommend that all patrons bring a sweater or light jacket, even in the summer. read more

Went to see Hamilton. If it's just based on the show alone, it is 5 stars for sure! No doubt about that. The 1 star off rating is regarding the venue itself and my experience. During the show there is someone actively vaping and the staff did nothing about it. The vaping had such a strong smell it's disturbing the experience. Many attendees, including myself, was very much bothered by it. Unfortunately, the staff did not step in to correct the situation. read more

We have seen many Peter Pan performances in different venues over the last 16 years, because our granddaughter loves Peter Pan. Last night I took her to see Peter Pan which was the WORSE Peter Pan performance ever in all those years and, that includes three high school performances! The actress who played Wendy was lifeless and either her mic was bad or she didn't know how to project to the audience. She mumbled and the lack of emotion was terrible. We couldn't understand why she was dressed like she was going out, instead in a nightgown ready for bed, it was strange and confusing. What was the director thinking when they didn't have NANA in the cast. Mr. Darling eluded to the fact, "Maybe we should buy a dog...a shaggy dog". At the intermission my granddaughter and I stepped out onto a balcony and we saw lots of people coming out of the theatre. I thought it was so they could have a cigarette, but NO, they went to their cars and were leaving! When we got back after the intermission, there was a constant flow of people leaving the performance. That's sad and very telling of how it was going. The play was slow, boring, and had no joy. The actors, except for Peter Pan and Captain Hook, we dull, and seemed to just be getting through the night. We had a difficult time hearing 85% of the actors which was disappointing. All in all, save your money, my money went down the drain. read more

The ASU Gammage is a huge pavilion that feels like it seats 10,000, but in reality it's only 3,000 or so. We've seen a few plays here, most recently the Book of Mormon and now Hamilton. Seating is somewhat basic, given the prices they charge. Think narrow, bulkhead Economy Airline seats. We much prefer the (ATC) Arizona Theatre Company's Herberger. Granted you don't see many recent Broadway shows there, but everything is top notch and up to date. I only wish that ATC could come in and update Gammage. As for our recent visit, Hamilton might be the best play we've ever seen! Yes, it's that good. Download the Hamilton App and try the Lottery. We did and we got lucky. Enjoy! read more

We just watched a great show there, lion king. It was fabulous. It made my heart happy. But 2 complaints. First we were in the orchestra section. So we were in very nice seats. They were pricey. But worth the view and experience. 3 seats to the right of me, this lady kept going on her phone. And it wasn't a kid or a teenager. She was at least in her 40s with 2 teenagers. Then trying to leave. That was horrible!! And completely stupid. We parked right next to the exit in the parking garage. Which is also about 20ft to the road. They wouldn't let us leave there. We had to go completely around and then join with the parking from in front of gammage building. It was not laid out well read more

Have been to a few productions here. Usual issues with a venue holding a popular production, Hamilton, parking, no where to stand without congestion waiting for the doors to open, queues for bathrooms. Interior a little dated, but a quick splash of paint would lift the feel of the place. Super friendly people that are really helpful when you ask a question that I am sure has been asked a hundred times tonight already In row 26 and really happy while not on top of the stage I am not super far away and can see the stage well. Bonus of this seat is that I am on the end and not in the crush of people..... a little breathing space and I don't have to climb over people. It's been a while since I saw a show at Gammage. We had tickets towards the back (Row 23) and had no problems seeing the stage from where we were sitting due to the stadium-style seating. Acoustics were overall good and the show we saw was awesome (The Book of Mormon). I got an email a few days prior warning us about the popularity of the show making it potentially hard to find parking. So, we got here an hour before the show started like the email recommended and were pleasantly surprised to find parking closest to the theater in Gammage lot 3. I'm not sure if it's because we saw a matinee instead of an evening show since I was half expecting the lot to be full already based on what the email said. If you arrive early like we did they do have a bar and a few snack booths selling pastries, candy, sandwiches, salads, chips, and various beverages. Prices are on par with how much you'd probably pay at a movie theater for similar snacks. Another perk of seeing a show at Gammage is that you can get 4 free hours of parking at the US Airways and City Hall garages if you show your ticket according to the Gammage website so you can browse around Mill/downtown Tempe afterwards if you'd like. Gammage also has a partnership with several restaurants in the area where you can get a discount or a free item if you show your ticket. Some restaurants I remember seeing were Chompies, Rula Bula and Cafe Boa. It was total chaos and the parking lot attendants didn't seem prepared since all the exits weren't opened up when we were trying to leave, creating a bottleneck as cars came from every direction trying to exit from one spot. When they finally did open up the other exit it created even more chaos as cars waiting in the previous line tried to worm their way to the other exit. Overall though we did have a good time and I'd definitely go back to see another show here. If I am lucky enough to get Hamilton tickets maybe I'll be back in another few months! read more

This historic landmark is always a great visit. I feel it is more spectacular to experience in the evening, with the neat globe lighting surrounding the property. The indoor architecture is also beautiful. I've been to two productions, Hamilton and The Blue man Group. For the Blue Man Group our tickets were in the balcony, I'll be honest, I'm afraid of heights and this balcony seating is a little too steep for my comfort. Beware if you have a phobia of heights like me. For Hamilton we were seated in the eleventh row, no issues or complaints, plenty of leg room to walk past other guests seated in your row. We picked up our tickets at will call, there was no line, took 1 minute. We did arrive about 40 minutes early-so I'd guess this line gets longer the closer to the start of the show. We also easily found street parking nearby-paid $12 for 4 hours. Although, I just noticed a yelp tip that two of the nearby garages are free with proof of a ticket. The lobby area is very TIGHT, it was really crowded for Hamilton! Souvenir stations are bustling pre-show, we made our souvenir purchases during intermission, much easier and less pressure. In a less busy life I'd love to have season tickets, for now, making the trek to Phoenix from Tucson is a bit too tough to get in that often. Can't wait for the next show we make it to! read more

I have always seen ASU gammage from the outside and thought to myself what beautiful architecture in the middle of the chaotic traffic. They were playing the Disney's Aladdin and what better reason to go see the place and the play. I took my mom along with me and we booked a tier A seating. The place, parking and event traffic was very well organized. There was road construction going on and it didn't disrupt the general public traffic. There was food and drinks at every level of the gammage. We went in to take our seats and oh man it was not cushion or reclined and it was cement flooring. Our backs were hurting and there was hardly any place for people to move their legs. It was really bad scene. The play was good, their production, stage setting everything was fantastic but I had to keep adjusting and seeing. For the $80 we paid it was not worth the seating. It is definitely not the play but the seating which ruined the whole experience. They should give a thought of upgrading their offerings. Please don't be deceived by the beautiful architecture coz it was not comfortable. read more

Talk about a place in desperate need of a renovation! I am always saddened when I come here and see how dirty this place has gotten over the years. rips in the seats covered up by colored duct tape (not kidding) huge spill stains on the carpet in the main foyer and just general dirtiness everywhere else. This place rakes in money hand over fist and yet there is 0 money put in to the venue itself. The crowds that pack the concessions area make it a nightmare to even try to get to the bathroom or souvenir booth so I generally avoid it as much as I can. The plays that come here are always fabulous and this is a rating for the venue itself not the musicals/plays. Time for an update gammage, time to become a place where it feels ok to dress up and go to the theater, not some run down old dump that is turning into a high school auditorium. read more

I treated my husband and I to VIP tickets 'The Lion King' on 7/14/2022. Row 12, seats 25 and 27. $350. This was my first and LAST visit to ASU Gammage. What a horrible experience, this was a birthday gift to myself. One particular family in our row, seats next to us, family of 6, was up and down throughout the performance. Their kids were up and down needing in and out of the row and the parents made multiple trips for martinis and food chasing the children. Many times trampling our feet AND our belongings. The parents were clearly intoxicated and therefore I can see why the children had such poor behavior. If a performer came down the aisle, the children toppled us over getting to the aisle to get a closer look. Also, there were two nine year old girls in front of us who repeatedly stood up during the performance or sat high up on their knees blocking our view. I NEVER expected this behavior from VIP section that cost so much . I did voice concern to staff at intermission who then said 'there is nothing we can do'. I feel as though I should get my money REFUNDED due to the chaos surrounding us, the show was impossible to enjoy. Worse yet, I was knocked to the ground walking to my car by an overzealous family running to their vehicle. They never even stopped to see if I was okay, just laughed. Strangers helped me to my car. Yet there is more. We arrived to the event at 5:30pm. Apparently doors do not open until 6pm. We were forced to wait outside in the extreme Arizona heat, one lady actually collapsed and was placed in front of the outdoor large fan and lectured about not drinking enough or eating prior. Upon entering security area, my CLEAR PURSE, well within dimensions stated did not fit into their small bowl, and I was hassled about that . 8.3 x 3.0 x 6.9 well within dimension stated would be allowed. Very disappointed and will not return. read more

I think this is the best place to watch the traveling Broadway shows. They have a decent selection of wines and offer show-themed cocktails to compliment the show you are watching, which is a neat concept. They sell snacks and desserts. The ladies bathroom was recently remodeled to include more stalls, which is GREATLY appreciated because we can now get in and out of the bathroom quickly, even during intermissions. They offer headphones for those with hearing impairments. The only two negatives are: I think the seats could use an update and the ceiling looks like it needs some repair. read more

Gammage is beautiful to look at from the exterior with its mid-century Frank Lloyd Wright design, but the interior needs a refresh. Peeling paint in the auditorium floors and the seating could use a fabric update and some padding in the backrest. The original rounded drinking fountains are cool and the bathrooms also have that Wright feel. Acoustics seemed good, though we only saw a play. read more

I go to Gammage regularly. Some shows are great, most are mediocre at best. On occasion we leave at intermission if it's really bad. I have multiple sclerosis (MS) and sit in the accessible seating at the back of the orchestra. They call it accessible but there really is nothing accessible about it. It's a regular row of seats, the very last row. With my MS, I am unable to navigate stairs and have extreme difficulty side stepping. I've settled for this seating arrangement as it has worked for me in the past. There are no stairs to get to the seat. Unfortunately due to the side stepping required to navigate the rows, when other patrons are seated, I have to arrive as early as possible and leave after everyone else exits. During the most recent show I attended, I had to use the restroom in the middle of act 1. After clumsily making my way out of my row, I headed for the door. The usher stopped me from exiting. Since the show was in progress, she "couldn't open the door." I'm assuming it would have interfered with the lighting or caused some other technical issue. The problem is, with my MS I can't "hold it". The usher directed me to a side door down a flight of stairs. There was no railing to hold onto and it was very dark. The usher didn't assist me or shine her flashlight and I fell! There accessible practices are misleading, outdated and extremely dangerous. I've canceled my season tickets and won't go back but I'm fearful other people with accessible needs will find themselves in similar unsafe situations. Does anyone know how I could report this to the ADA? read more

Man....the more I go here, the more I hate this venue. The shows and performers are OUTSTANDING, but it is a true shame that this is the best venue that AZ has to showcase them in. Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US, and this is the best that they can do? Embarrassing... Aside from the pukey colored walls and a color scheme that was stolen from a 1980s couch, this pink spaceship seems more like a outdated convention center as opposed to a theatre. It's truly an eyesore from the outside as well. I love Frank Lloyd Wright and his architecture (having grown up in a midwestern town where his architecture was prevalent), but this definitely is NOT his best work. Poor Frank would probably be disappointed in the dirty orange carpeting too. How can they charge the ticket prices that they charge (which are fair, considering the high quality performances) and not provide adequate bathroom facilities? The second act of the show starts, and for the first ten minutes of Act Two audience members are crawling over each other getting back to their seats because the bathroom lines were so dang long. Come on Gammage! Every time we see their lineup of shows, we're excited.... but we immediately think, "Do we really wanna deal with this horrid venue?" Wish somebody would buy this place out, sink some money into it and make it the gem that it could be. read more

Recently visited Gammage to see Hamilton. Everything about getting here was such a pain that I almost never want to see a show here again. I've seen a few other plays at Gammage, and I don't remember it being such an ordeal. Highly recommend if you attend that you do not try to enter from Apache heading eastbound. Although they had an officer controlling the street light, because there is no left turn signal, it took a good 20 minutes for us to make a left from Apache to approach the garage. I don't understand why they didn't have an officer just directing traffic to help with the flow. In fact, don't even try to drive here. Just Uber. I was so stressed and annoyed by the time we actually got inside that it kind of tainted the overall experience. Once inside, the staff was very friendly, but the walkways are very narrow and hard to navigate with crowds. Didn't visit any of the drink stands, but while the bathroom lines look insanely long, they move much quicker than you think they will. Love the vintage feel inside the theater as well. TL;DR - don't attempt to park here to see a show. Once inside, it is crowded but lines move fast. read more

The premier venue to watch a play or concert in town. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright the inside in acousticly built to maximize any vocalist and your seats are not that far away unless you are at the very top. The bathrooms are a little out dated and don't accomodate large crowds. Until a few years ago you were not allowed to bring drinks and snacks in th we auditorium and there are no cup holders. I have been attending shows and concerts here for many years and have seen Phantom of the Opera, Wicked to Elton John's comeback concert which the sound is always top notch. Big tip, if you are an ASU Student, half price tickets are available morning of show and sometimes are prime seats. Parking is limited but we generally park at the garage off Apache and College/Normal which is a short walk. read more

Another 5 star review. I saw Beauty and the Beast with my little niece last night and she couldn't stop talking about it. (It was her reward for having good grades) I know I'm supposed to be the reviewing the theater, but I can't bring myself to rate them lower than 5. It was such a good show that even though there were a few minor issues at the theater, they still deserve 5 stars. The auditorium is starting to show its age and hopefully they get the funding to make improvements. (Also some lady with a big head sat in front of us and my little niece couldn't see, so I changed seats with her.) No big deal. Other than that the staff were very professional and helpful as always. We absolutely love seeing Broadway productions at ASU Gammage. The classic, elegant feel of Gammage truly makes your Broadway experience one to remember. Last night, we saw Wicked for the first time and it was absolutely phenomenal! Their locally made homemade goodies at the snack bar make the perfect intermission treat {the toffee is a must!}. The only thing that they could improve on is the bathroom situation! I didn't even have time to get through the line before the show started again, which was a major bummer! So if you have to go, I would rush straight there when the doors open! Other than that, our experience was a fantastic one! We can't wait to come back for Book of Mormon in October! read more

It's a great place to see a show, but the acoustics must be a challenge for sound crews because, depending on the show, it either sounds fantastic and goes unnoticed or it is muffled and becomes burdensome. Hamilton was a prime example of one with very poor quality sound when it mattered most. At intermission, I went and got a hearing assist device and the sound was just as muffled. This issue has been confirmed by a couple of friends who also saw this performance at Gammage. Oklahoma was another show where the sound crew just couldn't get it together. Other shows (Wicked, Tootsie, Annie) did not have these issues. My family always enjoys the experience, though, except maybe for Oklahoma, which was just obnoxiously bad. read more
