After our discussion, I promptly signed up for an 8-week wheel throwing session. In the span of 2 months, I learned how to wedge clay, create cups, bowl and plates, trim and glaze my pieces. It was challenging, yes, but the feeling I got when I held my finished product was more than worth it. What set this studio apart was its philosophy to push students to explore their creativity. We were taught the basics, but after that the sky was the limit. Bojanna, the owner and teacher, was incredibly patient with us and had boundless, contagious energy. In addition to teaching and making beautiful pottery, she also hosts various arts and crafts classes at the studio. I picked a rabbit and was advised to layer the paint on several coats to get the best effect later. Which means you spend a few hours here so take time out accordingly. It's a nice place to just relax and paint, however it's a little pricey. Also once you are done, they take your painted ceramic for a week to glaze and fire it in the kiln. The sweet barista didn't speak English (she spoke French, of course; Spanish was her native language), but she was lovely and patient and helpful and together we figured out how to get me an oat milk latte. The "energy" of a space affects me pretty strongly, and this place was my favorite so far of all the shops I've visited in Montreal. They have SO many offerings. Full frozen meals, sandwiches, pastries, smoothies, even speciality cakes, and of course numerous coffee drinks (including coffee spritzers? I'd never heard of such). I'm not a coffee connoisseur, but the latte was tasty, served in the cheeriest bright yellow mug and saucer. She even brought me a glass of water on the side without me even asking! They won some local and provincial awards (I included photos of the signs about these because I'm not sure what they're about.) I would like to share my extremely disappointing experience with Ateliers & Saveurs. I had booked a…read morewine tasting more than a month in advance to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise, and I must say, in terms of "surprises," we were not disappointed. Upon arrival, as we were taking off our coats and starting to chat with the other guests, we quickly noticed there weren't enough chairs (we were a group of 5). When I went to the counter, I was told there was no reservation under my name--not for tonight, nor for any other date. Even after showing my order confirmation with today's date and time, the employee told me he couldn't do anything because the manager wasn't on-site and that I would be contacted later in the week. We were then strongly pressured to leave the premises because the class was about to begin. We found ourselves stranded without a plan on my mother's birthday in the Plateau-Mont-Royal, where every good spot was already fully booked. The manager called me the following day to inform me that an employee had canceled our reservation by mistake. No apology, no offer of compensation for the ruined evening. He simply told me he would make an "exception" by refunding me instead of giving me a credit. How generous... In short, administrative errors can happen, but the lack of customer service and empathy that followed is unacceptable. Avoid them for your important events, or else make sure you have a Plan B for your evening.
