I came here just after 2 p.m. specifically for the egg sando, only to find out they were sold out. Since I hadn't come up with a backup plan, I let the really kind hostess pick both my sandwich and coffee for me. You order, grab a seat, and wait for your name to be called when everything is ready. The restaurant is easy to miss. It's set back from the street and, partially hidden behind overgrown weeds and litter. Once you find it, the space is actually below street level and has a retro, almost 1970s bunker-like vibe. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, though some of the less-used furniture and fixtures could use a good dusting. I ended up with the karaage sando and a matcha. The matcha was strong, which I appreciated. The sandwich was very meaty, though I wasn't a fan of some of the rib meat pieces. Overall, I'd say it's a hipster hangout with a solid menu. Just be sure to get there before the kitchen closes at 3 p.m. and even earlier if you have your heart set on something specific.
Great Japanese Curry! Shocked to taste a great tonkatsu curry here. This might have been one of my favorite Japanese curries ever to be honest. The pork was crunchy and tender, the rice pillowy and up to the task of soaking up all the great curry. I didn't leave any curry sauce behind. The matcha was also equally on par. The shop is somewhat depressed into the surrounding landscape which made it difficult to recognize at first, it definitely added to the aura of a hidden find. The only annoyance was that it was packed with, let's say, entitled college students, parked for what seemed like the long haul buried in their laptops who couldn't be bothered at all because whatever they were working on was of the utmost priority. I'm sure they were all working on brokering world peace or the cure for cancer. LOL. I do suppose that is their market audience so perhaps I shouldn't complain but thankfully the staff was really sweet sensing that I was having trouble locating a place to sit. Just note it may be hard to find a place to sit during peak hours. Staff was awesome.
10 x this please is 100% a great vibe and matcha place to chat or work at. They have tables indoor and outdoor. Indoor there is a disco ball and I imagine they have evening events to have fun. We were there in the day. I got the matcha and the Hojicha lattes with oat milk. Matcha was a 8/10 but the Hojicha was a 10/10! Seriously so good. They also have sandos that looked great. I didn't try it but our friend gave it a 8/10.

The crowd is young -- seems like students come here to study. All the drinks and treats I tried were delightful. As a matcha snob, I'll say that the matcha is better than most establishments that offer "matcha" but not amazing (still a little diluted for my liking). Service can be a little slow.
Came to this place because I'd heard good things about their egg and katsu sandos. We got here early around 9:30am but realized the kitchen doesn't open until 11am, so we ended up ordering from the breakfast menu instead. I got the egg-salad toast and a matcha latte. The egg salad was very tasty, and the thick toast was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The matcha latte was pretty standard, I asked for it unsweetened, but their matcha powder is a premix with sugar, so the sweetness couldn't be adjusted. Still tasted pretty good though. The inside of the café is really nice and spacious. There are smaller tables along the sides and bigger communal tables in the middle. It was empty when we arrived, but by around 11am it got really crowded and there weren't many empty seats left. We came on a snowy day, and I appreciated that they had a coat rack at the front to hang your jackets. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you, which is convenient. We actually came back for lunch later, but since I'd already had the egg toast, I didn't feel like getting another egg sando. We ordered the katsu curry rice instead. It was pretty standard, the chicken katsu was crispy and tender, and the curry was good. There were lots of people working on laptops, and they do have WiFi, but it was a little slow. They also have a vinyl-records section on the side and definitely give off a strong design-work / creative-crowd vibe. The ambiance overall is really nice. They had discounted pastries (probably day-old), and we tried one. It was still really good. Overall, a great space with good food and a nice vibe. Just keep in mind the kitchen hours if you're coming for their popular sandos.
If you're looking to have a moment of zen crossed with a hipster culture space to socialize plus a beverage or light eat, then Osmo x Marusan (a.k.a. the former Café Osmo) might be what you're looking for. Although it has a Rue Sherbrooke Ouest address, you really enter through a setback doorway off Rue Clark behind the startup incubator Notman House, owned by the Osmo Foundation. Found the place reminiscent of Billyburg late '90s/early '00s, where a neglected nook was reinvented as a café with select vinyl offering and dj booth, especially given their use of the small green back courtyard for seating. The interior structure had a brutalist/industrial look, but everything gelled to create a place easy to connect. Sitting with my family in out back, the time seemed disproportionate (especially considering the light level of customers) for the pager to signal my Match Oat Latte was ready. The large "PAUSE" metal sculpture viewable from the garden, however, set the moment. The late summer weather was perfect and, when it arrived, that Latte was a good afternoon refreshment. From what I saw, I'd recommend stopping by, especially if you'd in the high-rise downtown but would like a nearby retreat to escape the hullabaloo.

The coffee is smooth, and the sandwiches are delicious and came out quickly. They have some vibey outdoor seating as well. Definitely will return to try the curry!
I came here while I was visiting Montréal and it was a great spot to work on my laptop, lots of university students working away. I will say, the wifi only lasts 2 hours before you're booted off. But if you just need a place to quickly get some work done or enjoy the cool atmosphere, it's totally great for that. I tried their iced Cortado and egg sando and it was soooo delicious. Cortado was made perfect and the egg sando was soft and buttery. Great, friendly service too, as they bring your food and drink to you! Very different from most American cafes. If I lived here I would go all the time
This is such a cool coffee shop in Montreal! I got the matcha and it was delicious! The croissants were great as well. It is a great spot to just go and hang out. They had a dj playing records as well which was a unique touch! 10/10 recommend checking it out!
Guess I needed a taste of my prior Japan trip when visiting Montreal, because as soon as I saw the Japanese style egg salad sandwhich on the menu I knew I needed that for lunch. It was delicious, and importantly not too mayo-y and not too sweet (so not in tamago egg style). I also ordered a hot matcha latte but it was a little meh for me - bitter without any of the other matcha flavor shining through. Hard to top matcha from Japan or the Bay Area though. The other dishes offered ordered by cafe patrons looked incredible as well, wish I could go back and try more. Logistics: - indoor seating (extremely busy so expect to share tables) and I think there was outdoor seating but it was raining so I wasn't sure - limited street parking nearby
I had the tomago sando! I enjoyed it, however the music is a bit loud which made ordering difficult. Somehow salmon was added to my order/sandwich so I had to peel it off as I am vegetarian and did not intend to order anything added on. Definitely wasn't the servers fault, so I didn't complain but the music did make it hard to hear when ordering. The restaurant is clean and has a great vibe otherwise! I appreciated the tables staying clean despite it being nicely packed at lunchtime!
The matcha was so amazing. The perfect blend of umami and sweet. The egg sando was the perfect breakfast option but they do not start serving food until 11am!! We did not know that so we came way too early and had to wait. The staff was cool and friendly. The interior was an absolute vibe. Obsessed with this spot
This place was such a vibe! When trying to find the place, be careful to not walk past it since I did. You'll see the cafe from outside, but you have to walk down stairs to get to it. They had both in door and out door seating and it looked like such a cool place to hang out. I had a matcha latte here and it was great!
Super cute place to hang out and work/study. Both the Sandos were delicious, the salmon one was refreshing and the other one was super savory. The hojicha latte(didn't get a picture) was also yummy. Not too sweet or grainy. read more
This is such a cute cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating! It's a little tucked away beside the gas station. The parking situation is a little tricky but if you're lucky, you can find street parking and pay via the app! Love the vibes inside including the little retail area where they sell vinyls. There is also a huge disco ball hanging in the middle! The water station is self-serve beside the cashier. Your food will be brought to you on a tray and you can put your tray/plates/utensils away at the end of the meal (at the same shelf where the self-serve water station is). I came for the egg sando and it did not disappoint! It was so yummy. Egg was the perfect consistency. It was pretty filling so it is something that can be shared if you don't have a huge appetite. I ate half and got a box for the other half. Matcha latte wasn't bad either. The only reason I took off one star is because it took us 20 minutes just to get our drinks. When we were finally served our drinks, the server was like "oh, you guys are waiting for food too right?" which makes it seem like our order might've been forgotten.. read more
This cafe was right beside where I was staying in Montreal, so I had to try it out. I was so pleasantly surprised - it is such a vibe! It's quite obvious which items are the most popular, including the egg sandwich which we ordered multiple of. It was certainly delicious, and not something you can order just anywhere! Their roaster of choice was Express -- a pretty good local Montreal roster Service 3/5 Coffee 4/5 Vibe 4/5 (different from other shops) Location 3/5 (more neighborhood) Only same dimension service wise whoever is usually on Barr is very very chill and if you're not in a rush, that's OK but they don't turn over things fast. I do appreciate the order buzzers that they give out. read more
We tried this place since it was close to our hotel. This is Japanese cafe and they had famous egg sandwich, which has half-soft fried boiled egg between Japanese white bread. It was around $12 and was delicious! The fries egg was crispy outside and creamy inside and was amazing. We loved it! We went in the morning and the server informed us that this egg sandwich was only available from 11am when they start lunch time. They also said this egg sandwich normally sells out around 2pm. Since we went on a week day, they still had it when we went around 2:30-3pm. They make the sandwich as you order, so it was warm when we received it. If you get a chance to visit, I definitely recommend you to try this Japanese warm egg sandwich! read more
Great place to come if you're looking for a nice study spot and great drinks! Hojicha latte and regular latte were both made extremely well. Hojicha latte was one of the best ones I've had in a long time. We did also order the katsu and egg sandos. I wasn't the biggest fan of either with both of them having a TON of pepper and salt thrown on top. A little bit is always great but it was practically soaking in it. Outside of that both sandwiches were solid, but wouldn't go out of my way for these sandos. I would however do it for their drinks. 5/5 drinks 3/5 food 4/5 overall read more
Came here around 11:30 AM on Friday September 20th. I have tried the Marusan restaurant located inside the Time Out Market at Eaton Centre and really enjoyed the classic Japanese curries. This location offers more variety and doubles a coffee/study shop. The location is easy to access however being downtown there is only paid street parking. The restaurant is sort of underground but has great sky lights, a small terrace and plenty of seating. There are large communal style tables in the middle and smaller tables for 2 on the sides. When we arrived though most spots were taken and filled with students studying or browsing on their laptops. This would not be ideal for families or larger groups. We got the pork katsu curry dish and a chicken sandwich - both were amazing, very flavorful, decently priced and filling. If you are looking for comfort food, this is the perfect lunch spot. Food is fresh and appears made to order. Service was prompt, overall vibe and ambiance is really cool. This is definitely a unique spot. read more
Friend recommended this cafe because of the ambiance and interior design. It's a new cafe with a modern, industrial inside. This would definitely be a great place to get some work done on the weekend, but it's fairly noisy -- if you're looking for a quiet place, this might not be the cafe for you. We got the tamago sando ($11 without add ons). This was the PLAINEST egg sandwich I've ever had LOL. There was absolutely no flavour, the egg barely tasted salted. Verdict: come for the vibes, do not come for the food. read more
Wow, this popular coffee shop filled with locals was hidden between two buildings and had an awesome karaage (Japanese fried chicken) sandwich that was juicy cooked to perfection. It was also well spiced with a hint of occasional heat. My wife had the tamago (egg) sandwich and it was just as good. She had a side of curry sauce that was not needed, but complemented the sandwich very well. Cons: The croissant is not my style. read more

matcha was good, although it was ~7$. I would've preferred a taller cup for that price! The texture was grainy (I got a hot matcha) which was weird. Long tables good to chat with strangers unless you want privacy then there's also smaller tables. We didn't realize until we were done but there was outdoor seating which is so nice. read more
One of the coolest cafes i've ever been to and their matcha latte was good as well! Their overall branding and aesthetic is so visually pleasing. On top of a cafe, they also sell vinyl and have a live DJ playing. Lots of open space and tables so perfect for those who might want to go to focus or work. I just felt like I could sit there and vibe for hours - definitely one of the most memorable spots on my trip to Montreal. They don't start serving food until like 10 am so we missed out on that but I hear rave reviews and will be checking out next time i'm in the area. read more
If you are in Montreal, cafe Osmo is a must! This is the cutest little coffee and sandwich/lunch spot located in a cute little "bunker" style with lots of communal tables and individual spots. If you come here on any given day, you'll see tons of students working on their laptops and friends catching up over some delicious bites and coffee. The ambiance is absolutely delightful - they even have a cute little DJ booth and the whole vibe of the place is a cute little dystopian world with silver metal accents and jungle vibes. The coffee is great and fresh and unlike most cafes that serve hot food, this place does it right. The sandos are delicious and unique - I've had the karaage one and the karaage in it is actually fresher and crispier than actual izakayas. I've tried the egg one as well and it features a scotch egg within a sandwich, and the hollandaise/mayo mix is quite tasty, although heavy. Anyway, a great spot to work or study - if you sit down and eat (especially the people who are there for an extended period of time), please tip your server! read more

Such a cute and unique spot. If you aren't familiar with the area it's easy to miss the steps down into the entrance. The have a large seating area inside with a good working area for those with laptops. The dj turntable area is very cool and the outside is a nice courtyard to also enjoy. The food is amazing. The drinks and pastries are available early and the food can be ordered after 11. I just wish the sandwich had been served with a side maybe a green to soak up the freeze from the fried pork or fried egg. But both are delicious Japanese sandwiches. read more

A must if you're in montreal. We have a very good cafe selection and this one is at the top of the list. The atmosphere and decor are so welcoming and unique. The food is delicious and aesthetically pleasing. I recommend the iced hojicha latte, it's just sweet enough for someone who doesn't like coffee. The egg sandwich is very filling and not expensive for the quantity and quality you are getting. The eff and salmon one is my favourite so far, it's so comforting and tasty. read more
Definitely one of my Montreal go-to café, yes it's almost always packed but the service is always on point, the food is really really good, the coffees and lattes are excellent and the vibe is very cool! If you're a student and you're looking for a place to study with a tasty hot drink, that's the place to be ! read more

I've never seen architecture like this! Osmo is such an interesting café setup and I've loved reading up on its backstory since my visit (https://montreal.eater.com/2021/7/6/22564256/osmo-marusan-japanese-cafe-notman-house-espadon). Any creatives would feel welcome here. I'd had Marusan's curry at Time Out Market, so it was cool to see the linkages between different businesses. I ended up trying their Hojicha Latte - it was not too sweet, and a great way to start the day. For a Saturday morning, the café was not too full. If I was local, I would certainly frequent here to get work done. read more

I love this café. Beautiful open layout with lots of natural light, a various thetic interior. Great Asian drinks (e.g., hojicha latte, sencha, matcha...), both hot and cold, both tea and coffee, and excellent food as well. Great spot for lunch or as a café. The only two things are that it might be hard to find a seat since it's can sometimes be busy there, and it can be a little loud if you're sitting next to the speaker. Overall, still one of my favourite café/casual lunch spots to-date! read more
On a Saturday afternoon, we had to wait for a table. A cafe with free Wifi and power outlets is definitely popular! Besides bakeries, they serve Japanese food. There was one vegan option which is the vegan curry and it's made with tofu. The sauce was tasty mixed with rice. I came here because I was mostly interested in its architecture. The skylights and the windows brighten up the interior with minimal use of artificial light. read more
Came here for a brunch spot when visiting Montreal and absolutely loved it! It gave the best college atmosphere with students studying around. The place is a cafe in the afternoon and social at night with lots of great records. The staff were all very helpful in adjustments to my order as well. I really enjoyed the small little details and the interior design. As for the drinks, we ordered the Iced Vanilla Latte with oatmilk and it was pretty good! The iced green tea seamed more simple and basic so not much on that end. - Chicken Karaage Sandwich (9/10): Definitely star of the show! Loved how juicy and crispy the chicken was and the ratio of vegetables was perfect. - Katsu Curry (7/10): The curry base was really yummy but the pork was a bit dry for my liking. Overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and food and would definitely come back if I studied nearby. read more
Such a cute cafe! The food and drinks were all good!They're all Japanese-style. The egg sandwich had runny eggs so that was yum. I wish the mayo was spread out a little better since it was basically just at the bottom. My friends enjoyed the sando and curry rice! The seats are quite uncomfortable there, it's like metal chairs. I saw a lot of people studying there so maybe it's okay! read more
The food here is bomb! You have to get their eggs - everyone in my group loved it. There's outdoor seating as well as indoor seating - if you're getting food, I definitely recommend sitting inside because the wasps outdoors are vicious. read more

Vibrant, beautiful spot with great sandwiches. Cashier was really nice. Would love to eat here again. One suggestion I have is to have curry sandwiches! The yuzu mayo is nice, but a curry sandwich would be amazing. read more
I came upon this gem during my visit in Montreal! I loved the vibe of this cafe and they even have a DJ! This is a great place if you're looking to do some work or study in while getting coffee and a bite. I tried the tamago Sando (I loved the perfect runny egg!) and the karaage sando (it was crispy and full of flavor!). I definitely recommend trying the sandos! The only thing is they don't serve food till 11am so if you just want coffee, they open at 8am! I would come back here if I'm visiting Montreal again! read more

A M B I A N C E Great time! The place looks beautiful, the DJ is playing music, the workers look happy and the vibes are there! Vinyls line the walls and it's really cool! The only issue we had was the tables and chairs were cold, uncomfortable and wobbly. C L E A N L I N E S S Workers wipe down the tables between customers and take the dirty dishes away. O V E R A L L Q U A L I T Y Coffee was really good; we each had a latte with oat milk. Ask them what the specials are before ordering coffee! We shared the Tamago Sando and the Karaage Sando - such a good move. The Tamago was light and delicious! The Karaage was really good but way more filling! The curry sauce on top of both was highly recommend. C O S T $$ W A I T T I M E S We were lucky and got a table right away, however it does get busy and the line is long at times. Once you order you sit at a table and in about 10-20 minutes they bring you your order (coffee and/or food). This place has very cute vibes! I really loved the dj booth and record shop. There's a decent amount of seating inside and out, but it seems to get quite busy. The drinks came out pretty quickly. I ordered a caramel miso drink and it was tasty! I think it's definitely a unique spot. read more
