I dropped in last second to see what they had to offer. Donna, who was nice and helpful, went in the back and brought out 3 dress in my price range (1000$ and lower). To me that isn't much of a selection for a savvy shopper. 1 was nice, 500$, but needed 400$ in alterations. Too big! I think that's a bit much! Most dresses are 1200$ plus. I had a wonderful shopping experience with this family owned Clearwater boutique. I had 6 months until my wedding and hadn't done any dress shopping. I was visiting my family in FL and we decided to stop into Athena's- I found them on Google and they had excellent reviews. From the minute we walked in, we were treated amazingly- Lexi, who is now my guardian angel, took the time to understand what I was looking for and my budget, and never tried to show me something that wasn't my taste or was out of my price range. I never thought I would buy a dress at the first shop I went to but Lexi helped me find a dress that I felt totally gorgeous in. Well I came in here to try on some more wedding dresses as I was having dress regret (I should admit that I did end up exchanging my dress where I originally purchase it) and I wanted to check out some other shops. I have to say my consultant was super helpful and did have me try on dresses I would have never thought looked good on me. She was friendly and knowledgeable. The owner was super sweet and also came to check on me to see how the dresses look. I will say had I not purchased a dress prior I would have bought one from here. Well, I promised an update and here it is. I'm married, exhausted, but definitely wanted to return to clarify the rest of my experience with Athena's. After I purchased my dress with Gina, I came back for fittings and alterations- about 2 and a half months before the big day. First fitting, I gained weight over winter and dress didn't fit. Ha! The seamstress was so sweet; "Don't worry, you're going to be beautiful, please don't cry." I said "I'm not going to cry, I'm furious." So funny looking back on it. I was so angry at myself. My alterations were paid by the in-laws, which is incredibly generous and I'm very thankful. I paid for my dress- about $1300. Alterations were about $400. WARNING: Lace is an expensive material, and it is difficult to alter, therefore, more money. They had to let my dress out (for my big ole gut), add a 5 button bustle, and adjust length. Please do not assume that you will spend the same, all dresses and their materials are different. There seemed to be a bit of miscommunication between the seamstresses. On my 3rd fitting (I had 4), the top hadn't been done. There was a bit of a language barrier, but they were very sweet and thorough all in all. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend you purchase their accessories. Veils, tiaras, etc were way overpriced compared to the other bridal shops I'd visited. They also had at least 100 gorgeous quincenera, prom, mother of the bride, bridesmaid, and evening gowns. Thank you Athena's. I'm glad I purchased with you and I hope to be a repeat customer. While I will say that Gina, our sales consultant, was wonderful... She is the only reason I can recommend this bridal salon. The alterations I would not recommend at all for one reason... The lack of communication between seamstresses as well as customer service does not even rate one star. The work they do is very good but it's almost not worth it because it was very very stressful to try to have A wedding gown altered. I'm not sure if it was a language breakdown between customer and seamstress or a communications barrier between seamstresses but it's too expensive of a purchase to leave to chance and there was virtually zero communication between the seamstresses and the customer. The work they did was very good, but it took a very long time to get there and was very stressful. I would 100% recommend buying a dress from Gina I would just take it somewhere else to have it altered. read more

I went to Athena's bridal on a Saturday afternoon to shop for my wedding dress. I had an appointment with Donna we went through many dresses and finally found one I really liked with my wedding being less than 6 months away I asked before I fall in love with this dress will I be able to order and get in time. She said I checked if you order by next Saturday you will get it a month before your wedding. Then later into the appointment said I could always buy the floor model which was beat up with a stiff zipper. I let Donna know that I had one other appointment and then would be back if nothing was comparable. She said that they were closed Sunday and Monday so wouldn't be available till Tuesday. Tuesday I showed up asking if I can see and order the dress. Donna stated that the floor model was sold and I was unable to order the dress. I asked her that since Saturday I'm not longer able to order the dress and Donna let me know she never actually called to check if I could order and unfortunately she was wrong in telling me that I could order and if I liked something I should of just got it then. I was never going to get the floor model and I feel that she realized that I wasn't going to order the dress on Saturday but instead of being honest didn't want to risk a sale so tried pushing a damaged floor model dress. My experience was less than ideal and I would not recommend Athena's bridal to anyone. read more

Welcome to 1992...upon arrival this local dress shop presents apparel that would be appropriate for a high school prom circa 1992. While there is nothing wrong with taking a classic approach to apparel I would like to state my personal disdain for the "style" of the early 90's. In believe in putting your best foot forward, so far not impressed. I have traveled nearly two hours with my wife to pick up a bridesmaid dress that was ordered months ago and paid in full. When attempting to arrange delivery for local alterations we were notified of "additional fees" that extended beyond the paid in full price, and we had no prior knowledge of. When inquiring upon the specifics of these additional fees we were met confusion. Nobody seemed to know what these fees were for, but that paid in full does not mean paid in full at this boutique. I want people to support this small business. I bought my wedding gown, my bridesmaids dresses and accessories here... and strangely, so did my mom almost 30 years ago but it had a different name back then. Overall, I'm pleased because Gina helped me find a beautiful gown at a fair price (not inexpensive, but comparable to other stores I had shopped). For a small store they have an excellent selection of gowns. I had the dress on time and it was altered quickly. I have a handful of gripes, though. I was an out of town bride and informed the staff that booking a flight was required for me to be at a fitting and they estimated a date, but couldn't give me a firm date. After checking in around the estimated date, I reiterated the importance of knowing when the dress was in so that I could come have a fitting (I was not a bridezilla: the arrival time of the dress and my actual wedding were under 3 weeks apart and I live 1200 miles away) I was not notified when my wedding gown arrived. Also, the salesperson pushed ALL of my bridesmaids to order a larger size than their measurements indicated and then every one needed altering. And finally, my alterations upon pick up were $70 higher than quoted. Again, I want people to support this small business. It was definitely a more pleasant experience than any of the chain bridal stores I visited. I was assisted by a professional and intuitive salesperson. The prices were fair and comparable to other stores and everything was delivered on time. Their selection was very good for a small store. Absolutely the worst customer service and worst experience. Booked an appointment and got Jill as our consultant. We came from all over the state and some from California to pick a dress. Granted wedding isn't until 2020 my family is here specially for this day. After only not even 45 mins and only 4 dresses tried on, Jill states that we were cut off and she didn't have anymore time. She rushed us out. Mean while another bride was a walk in and had over an hour. I'm sorry Jill but you lost a sale. No matter how far out the wedding is, a dress would have been purchased today if she found the right one. If I could give ZERO stars I would. Do not recommend for future brides. read more

I looked everywhere for a mother of the groom dress that was not matronly. I created a Pinterest board with about twelve dresses I loved and call as far as Sarasota trying to find any of the dresses. Athena's was the only store where anyone called back after looking u my choices . Although they said they had only one of them, Gina assured me that they had three dresses that she thought I might like. I found one that fulfilled that vision to a tee. It was gorgeous and I knew I rocked it. I, however, was not as pleased with the alteration department. I came back a week before the wedding, and additional adjustments were necessary. I stayed and everyone was very nice. But, I question if the bust was correctly altered even then. I felt the cost was higher than quoted but I paid. I would buy from this store again, but might have it altered somewhere else. read more

Buyer beware! No refunds or exchanges. What they don't tell you is that if you buy a sale item it is "as is" so you better check every stitch because I trusted them and realized less than 24 hours before my daughter's wedding that the hem was falling out. Luckily I was able to tape it up and it held-- with no help from them other than, " bring it in and we'll fix it"-which was impossible at that point. When I complained to them I'm made to feel like they did me a favor selling me a dress on sale! Also, they misquoted a price for alterations-in my favor-which was lovely- but they tried to change the agreed upon price after I had paid for it AND are making me feel-again-like they are doing me a favor with the alterations price, when the price they set was their own doing, not mine!! I have no idea how much alterations should cost! I got a deal on the alterations price but that was their mistake-not done as a favor to me as they are implying. So, bottom line-they are looking out for themselves-not the customer. The dress is beautiful--other than wearing it with the hem taped up and checking every 5 minutes to make sure it was holding. read more

I explained the her the situation and that I needed a dress for a wedding I am attending in 3 weeks. She understood I had a budget and stuck to that budget. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I had a horrible experience with this boutique. I picked out a dress for my wedding which was 9 months away and in good faith paid for it, however our venue changed to a casual beach affair so I no longer desired a fancy dress. I notified the shop of my changes and I said I was unable to get a refund I would have to pick out a another dress. I was told I must hurry or they would not be time for a new dress to arrive in time for my wedding. I now know that that was a ploy to get me to order the dress thankfully which I never did. I argued with donna as to why I cannot get a refund on a dress I have not yet ordered and she said it was their store policy however after reading my contract I saw a wedding dress cancellation fee of $200 to sum things up I had to go in on two separate occasions and get into a verbal fight just to get my money back. They are so unprofessional and they don't even understand their own contract. They are out just for the money I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

If I could rate this place with 0 stars I would. Let me start off by saying the experience of purchasing my dress was fine, nothing special they didn't make me feel uncomfortable but it wasn't the experience I wanted. However, the alterations department that this place is unprofessional, rude, and wants to take your money. 3 of my brides mates paid an additional 200$ for alterations on top of 220$ for the dress. They purposely order dress sizes larger to up the cost of the dress and then charge twice as much because the alterations are so dramatic. It was not only for the wedding dress but for each of the bridesmaids dresses too. Each bridesmaid was ordered a dress that was 4 sizes or more too big. They were charged extra for more fabric and then had extra charges for alterations. The alterations ladies would alter the dress incorrectly or not enough so that additional alterations were needed. I would not recommend they place to my enemy for weddings dress or dress shopping. read more

Every girl that was trying on dresses the owner was trying to push the less attractive one and wouldn't listen to what the customer was telling her. They promised that they WOULDN"T sell the exact same dress to anyone at the same school. Not only did they sell the dress to 2 girls at the same school but it was even the exact same color. How my daughter found out was because it was her good friend that was going to dinner with her on prom night and was going in the same limo. When my daughter and her friend went to talk to them the owner Selena was rude to my daughter and told her she couldn't have the dress that we had already paid $400 for. I would like everyone to know NOT to buy your dress from Athena's Bridal. A friend told me to check it out and I ended up with awful service. I found a lovely dress here and put a down payment on it. The next time I came her to pay a full in payment, I called first and said I'd be coming in. When I came in, the lady told me they have SOLD my dress to someone else out of state. Even though I have already put a down payment for this dress. They told me they could order me a new exact one but didn't put into any consideration when I needed the first dress in the first place. It took about a week for my replacement to come in. I was so upset over the matter, considering I can't believe they sold my dress to someone else and claimed to lose my number and couldn't come into contact with me. Celine the owner was also very rude once I complained about this problem, saying my dress wasn't even that expensive and when I asked for a discount they said they could maybe do that for me!!! Maybe!!! She never apologize for the inconvenience and no discount on anything. I will never come here again and highly don't suggest you come here either. read more

RUDE and their dress sizing is an absolute RIPOFF! My fiance chose this place over the bigger chains to support this small business and she was treated like garbage not like a princess preparing for her special day. Last month her and my Mom found the perfect dress so she ordered it...so far so good. When the dress came in and she went to get fitted, it all went down hill from there. They did a few minor alterations to it, the bottom which was barely noticeable and that hem alone was $100 for something we could done myself...they wanted $200 just for the minor adjustments!! I had to wrap my head around this when I heard and wondered how do they sleep at night...that's 50% OF WHAT THE DRESS COST ARE YOU OUTTA YOUR MIND!! They did not tell her this up front but were very short and rude with her saying well we have signs all over our walls and when she mentioned she did not expect to be treated liek this after chosing a local small business they just bashed the big name chains. I'm furious, she loves the dress but she's disappointed and felt mislead and not treated like a valued customer. Buying a wedding dress a big and an important decision and for her to be treated this way I was furious! They need to step up for their rude behavior along with the fact they robbed her pretty much of what half the dress was worth, and refund her the price of the fitting! This is a disgrace and will make sure I spread the world so others will not get the surprise slap in the face and wallet that we did! I bought my wedding gown here 27 years ago. Went in with my daughter today to try on a bridesmaid dress for her cousin's upcoming wedding. My daughter had called ahead, explained the situation and scheduled an appointment. Driving two hours from Orlando to make the appointment we were met with an awful and nasty greeting- 'well we don't do appointments to try on a bridesmaid dress'. And 'we don't do measurements if you are not ordering today'. AFTER we had called, explained and set an appointment. Absolutely rude- my husband, I and my other in law all walked away mortified at the terrible customer service. Here is the kicker....my daughter is 22 years old and just weeks away from being engaged herself. We will have a big wedding...BIG. And Athena's doesn't have even an outside shot after today at getting our business. And we will tell everyone we know- many girls the same age and point in their life getting ready to be married- to steer clear. Big mistake- BIG. Think Pretty Woman Rodeo Drive shopping scene mistake. So unfortunate as this would have been a good tradition to keep with my daughter. I could not have picked a better place to start wedding dress shopping. From the start Athenas was so good to me. I was looking for a particular dress and it so happened they had just ordered it and told me it would be here in a couple weeks and they would call me when it came in. well the dress came in and i made my appt. i even told them it would take me an hour or more to get there, they assured me it was no problem and they would start as soon as i got there. when i got there i realized it wasn't the dress i was asking about. Donna could tell that i was upset because it wasn't the dress i wanted but she told me i know that style and that designer and we have tons of her dresses that are very similar. if it wasn't for Donna extending her friendly smile and willing to work with me i don't think i would have stayed but i trusted Donna and her expertise because she really understood what i wanted and i'm so glad i did! the wrong dress turned into the perfect dress as soon as i put it on and i couldn't be happier! Donna took her time and really connected with me, with what i wanted and what i thought i wanted. Regarding Athena's Bridal. I have been a customer there for years and the best reason: Wonderful Saleswomen and excellent service!! I happened to be in the store when Angie from Pinellas Park arrived with her girlfriends and her boyfriend. Their behavior was deplorable. The owner jumped through hoops trying to please this young woman. She offered her any dress in the store, would call the manufacturers and get any dress she wanted and repeatedly apologized. When this young girl's mother arrived, she was just as arrogant and they simply wanted 'something for nothing.' Yes, someone made a mistake. Humans make mistakes. The owner apologized so many times and the mother continued with her rude tirade. The daughter slammed out of the store at one point -- after taking a stiff arm and slamming it into a rack of dresses!! Manners? NONE!! Low class people...obviously. I'm sure the owner -- who has been in business 28 years -- because of good service and excellent customer care -- doesn't need this girl's attitude nor her small profit on the prom dress!!
