The pub itself looks like one you'd find in some forgotten little village in rural Ireland -- a place that time left behind from the 60s or 70s. It reeked of cigarette smoke (which is still allowed in bars in Alabama apparently). The bartender/owner was very nice and seemed genuinely happy to have customers on a slow Sunday afternoon. He was helpful in recommending some beers (they have a good selection on draft -- most from regional breweries). We ordered the Irish spice bags of course and enjoyed our beers while we waited. The fried chicken pieces and French fries came in the bag, well seasoned. On the side were the fried green peppers and fried onions and the golden curry. We added the peppers, onions and curry to the bags, shook them up and tore them open to dig into this hearty Irish treat. The chicken pieces were tender and nicely breaded (the breading did not fall off). They were quite tasty on their own. The fries were crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The peppers and onions were fried to light brown and had just the right amount of softness. The golden curry was only mildly spicy with a great curry flavor. All mixed together, it was everything we hoped it would be. Well worth the trip to a smoky dive bar in a strip mall (we didn't even notice the smoky smell once the food came). If you've never had a spice bag, this place does them well. Food and service 5. Atmosphere 3. That accounts for the 4 rating.

V&O doesn't disappoint here either as everyone is well-versed and opinionated in what they are serving. It's the perfect place to let a few hours bleed away and forget what is going on in the world; maybe have an intelligent sparring session about tastes in the 'brown drink' or adult grape juice... You can spend an entire night here or end up here at the end of the night for a night cap... I don't think you can wrong either way. This place opened recently and offers a huge selection of wines (from Germany, France, California, New Zealand, and more), several varieties of bourbon, and a craft cocktail menu. They also have charcuterie boards and a shop with wine- and alcohol-themed memorabilia that are really quite cute -- think tumblers, candles, and other great gifts. There are televisions playing softly in the room with the bar but there's also a more intimate room; I think it'd be a nice place to gather with friends. I was told there'd be wine tasting nights starting soon! The bartender, Teylor, was exceptional! She put me right at ease, spoke knowledgeably about each cocktail and wine option, and had a good sense of humor. She worked efficiently among the patrons and was very attentive and polite. Shout-out to Teylor! The vibe was really great too - the other guests were friendly and sociable without being overbearing and I enjoyed my visit while having a drink. I ordered the Monte Sano Sunset, which is a rum drink with fruity elements to include orange and pineapple juice as well as a squeeze of lime. It wasn't overly sweet and didn't upset my stomach as similar drinks often do. It was a pleasure to watch Teylor make my beautiful drink as well as what others ordered; there was even fire involved with one particular beverage! I enjoyed my drink and heard rave things from the other guests about each and every drink that was served. Although this bar is rather far away for me, I look forward to bringing friends from out of town to this special new place.

Margherita pizza - so authentic and fresh. Love the brick oven cook on the crust - this pizza reminded me of Italy! Would love to try the other options as well. The website said they close at 11 but they actually closed at 10. As a result, the kitchen was closed, and I was unable to try the Smoked Rainbow Trout dip my friend raved for weeks about. I don't know if there's some ordinance or safety reason but there's an unused area behind the bar that would be great for a patio. Instead they have accordion windows which is cool, but a very tiny walkway to actually be outside. Half the fun of a rooftop bar is being outside. My cocktail was pretty pricey but interesting because it had chai tea in it. It was pretty watery for the price but I liked the idea. Overall, I'm disappointed I didn't get a chance to try Vesper's food because of the incorrect hours online, but from what I can tell, Baker & Able up the road still leads Huntsville in the rooftop bar scene.
