Twice a week for two months, and I'm mobile again! I have nothing but positive things to say about Athletico, this location, and especially my therapist Nolan. He is, by far, the best PT I've ever had. (After years of competitive tennis, running and injuries, I've had my share of therapy.) Everyone works together as an efficient team here, and there's a lot of one-on-one treatment... unlike many companies where they treat three and four patients simultaneously. Nolan designed a mini home program for me which I followed closely, and it helped speed my recovery. I highly recommend this Athletico location. read more

Mandy is a wonderful PT! I have been in and out of PT for the past few years and she is by far the most compassionate and truly loves what she does. I especially like Athletico over other brands because the PT spends over half of the appointment with their patients versus just for the 5-10 minutes of hands on manipulation. I would absolutely recommend this location! Even with COVID, I have felt very safe as they do temp checks and require masks. When I first showed up to the clinic I was in extremely bad shape. I was recently diagnosed with sciatica from my left lower back all the way down to my left foot. I could barely walk, I was in excruciating pain, and I could not go about my daily routine- let alone do any kind of working out of any kind. I was feeling pretty deflated as a result. Additionally, my primary care hospital, Northwestern, could not see me for 2-3 months & they referred me to Rush where I saw a couple of doctors who could not have cared less about me being in their care nor did they do anything to educate me about my problem. I had the opportunity to work with Meghan Liimatainen. I could tell during my first visit that she was the first professional that I had spoken with that actually empathized with my situation. Not only did she actually listen, but she did an amazing job educating me during my first appointment- as well as every step of the way. I noticed progress after my first couple weeks and that progress continued throughout the course of my therapy which ended up being 2.5-3 months or so. Athletico was a convenient option & scheduling never seemed to be an issue. I cannot speak highly enough of Meghan and the level of service, education, and care she provided. 5 stars. Absolutely 5 stars. I have a chronic shoulder condition that I have seen 4 different physical therapists for. I was in treatment with a different PT when I had a flare up and was told "its chronic, you may never get better". All three previous PTs told me - you will only get better if you stop training. As an athlete, my end-goal was to return to sports I love [power lifting and swimming] with a minimal amount of pain. I reached out to a friend who works for Athletico and she connected me with Dorothy. Dorothy treated me with the utmost care and empathy. While she did pause my training for a while to let my injury settle down, the end goal she had was for me to return to lifting and swimming with little pain. [and I did resume those activities about a month into PT]. She also understands the athlete mindset. Treatment was only successful if I could be training. She set reasonable and clear expectations. She told me I would see significant progress in a month [which I did!] and after 2 months, I have greater range of motion and less pain than I have had in 2+ years. She gave me a clear and straight forward take home program to continue on my own, and while I hope to not have to go back, I know I can. The morning and evening appointments were great - I could go in before or after work or occasionally at lunch. They handled everything with my insurance, great about communicating with my doctors. While one hopes to never have to go to PT - if you need to, I would recommend Athletico without hesitation. read more

Update: now that I have gone through two tours of duty with Karen Groulx, I still hold the highest regard for her work. I consistently saw appreciable improvements in functionality and strength by just completing the regularly scheduled PT sessions and "homework" exercises. Due to my various surgeries, I have unfortunately met more orthopedic surgeons, PTs and nurses than I ever thought I would. Yet Karen still stands out for her warm personality and professionalism. During my visits I frequently observed clients treating Karen as a trusted friend. How many can say that about their PT? read more

I chose this office for the location, but I stayed for Karen Groulx and the rest of the staff. The staff was always welcoming and friendly. On day one Karen asked me what my goals were in my recovery after a bad ankle break and made sure we stayed on track from then on. She was supportive and warm, but also tough enough on me that I am on my way to a full recovery. I wouldn't wish a broken ankle on anyone, but should it happen I hope you're lucky enough to have Karen as your PT! read more

I received PT on my shoulder following labrum surgery. I went 2-3 times/week for 3+ months and had a fantastic experience. Meg was my PT and she was extremely knowledgeable and reassuring throughout my recovery. Jess was also fantastic as she worked alongside Meg for a large portion of my visits. Emily helped me with a radial nerve issue from an occupational therapy point of view... very kind person, and very skilled... she had me back up with some arm relief in short order and I was able to then focus on physical therapy. I know Athletico has a lot of locations and therapists, but I can only speak about this one. I was seen by a therapist here who was not focused at all. Sadly the place is where older men go to have young PTs flirt with them while patient care is secondary. I was given a battery of calisthenics and was loosely monitored by non clinical employees. My condition worsened and the therapist noticed, but made very little adjustments until I finally quit going as things got worse. read more

Meghan and the rest of the staff at this location were kind, professional, and very helpful. Meghan figured out immediately that the source of my arch pain was actually some lower leg issues, and then we worked through a set of exercises to address that over the course of about a month. Some negative reviews note that some of the supervision of the exercises themselves is by support staff, but I think that's completely reasonable. You get plenty of attention from your physical therapist every session--evaluation, massage, other treatment--and then sometimes your exercises are with support staff. It strikes a good balance. Anyway, it's a pretty small office, so I never had the sense that I wasn't under a watchful eye. Thanks Meghan! read more

The entire staff at this location is awesome! When you walk in everyone greets you with a smile. Karen Groulx was my physical therapist on my road to recovery for knee trouble. She is extremely skilled and friendly. Karen made sure to keep me accountable for my home exercises and was a joy to be around. I spent about 2 months here before and after knee surgery for a meniscus tear. I'd been trying to rehab it on my own for a year before finally deciding to get professional help. Best decision ever. Dorothy and staff are excellent; they're all highly competent and very friendly. I enjoyed stopping in and the time just flew by. They know just how hard to push your body to get your parts strong again. They'll do a free injury screen and can get you back to doing the activities you love. Total rest isn't the way to heal. Strengthening exercises are vital to getting your joints working properly again. read more

Let me preface this review by saying I have never been a big believer in physical therapy. Sure it helps some people, but never in my experience. For prior injuries, I've shown up, been told to do the same exercises I've been doing at home all week, and barely supervised. Why do I need to pay someone $100 a session for that?!? So when I herniated a disc in my low back in February I was dreading it when the doc told me first step was to try PT. My sports medicine doc specifically recommended I see Karen Groulx, I thought, ok sure it's worth a shot if he has someone specific he thinks will help. Plus with the amount of pain I was in, I would have tried anything. Fast forward a few months and I've just 'graduated' from therapy. Karen has helped me tremendously. She knows what the heck she's doing. I also love that we never did the exercises she gave me for home during my appointments - she knew I was diligent about doing them so would rather spend the time doing something else that will benefit me. The manual therapy she provided as well has been awesome - there were days I walked I there almost in tears from pain and after a few minutes on the table, my pain was significantly reduced. The other thing that is so great about Karen is that she would periodically ask how I felt about therapy and if I thought I still needed it. I literally thought it was impossible to get a physical therapist to ever agree you were done. All of my previous experience was my therapist trying to squeak as much out of myself and my insurance as possible. This was completely the opposite with Karen - she only wanted me to come if I thought I was getting something out of it. Karen really helped me bounce back from my injury, and while I'm not yet 100%, I will be able to take what she taught me to help any pain I incur as I continue my recovery. read more

Had such a great experience with Athletico North Loop. I had a knee surgery (meniscus repair) and had to do a lot of rehab - these guys helped me to get back on track. Even if it took a while (more than I expected) the process was better than I feared. The whole crew is amazing - Dorothy, Megan and Karen are really good and very attentive. Meghan, the other PTs, and desk/support staff were all awesome! I went to physical therapy to regain range of motion in my ankle and strength in my legs and core after Achilles' tendon surgery. Within a few months Meghan was able to get my range back to exactly where it was before surgery and also allowed me to learn so many exercises I could do on my own to build up my strength again. Her massages are the best!!! My scar felt so much better after she loosened things up. She was such a bright light in my life everyday I went to PT, always kind, encouraging, and helpful. I came in with a strained neck complaint. I had undergone 2 sessions with a chiropractor during the prior week and had not seen any progress. Meg was my physical therapist at Athletico. She was able to resolve my complaint in only 2 treatments. Meg was attentive and explained in great detail the form I should be using to complete my rehabilitation exercises. Before Athletico and my PT Dorothy, I thought physical therapy was only for people recovering from surgery or physical trauma. So when I hurt my lower back and neck during rehearsals at the Goodman Theater, I was surprised that the doctor prescribed physical therapy. I always thought sore muscles could just be worked out with weekly massages, but the massage PLUS muscle training Dorothy taught me strengthen muscles that I didn't know would help take the pressure off my joints. Dorothy taught me so much about how my body worked, and how, yes, massages can alleviate muscle ache for a moment, but for long term results, you have to train the right muscles around it to prevent further or recurrence of injury. I would recommend PT to anyone with chronic pain or weak joints. And I would absolutely recommend Dorothy if you can get her. She's so personable, dedicated, and knowledgable. Convenient location if you work in the loop. Everyone is very friendly. I have worked with Karen for a few injuries. She is great! She doesn't overwhelm you with so many exercises to do at home that you never do them. In the clinic, she has you do different exercises & pushes you enough so you can get better.
