A couple of years ago I was in a lot of pain from a pinched nerve in my neck. I could hardly move my head to the left. My neurologist referred me specifically to Imelda and I have been grateful ever since. Shortly after I started PT at PhysioPartners, I began to experience some pain relief. I was given a comprehensive home routine that I followed. I did not ever think I would be relieved of the neck pain and I am glad that I do not have it often. I would not be honest if I said I was completely pain free. I sometimes get flare ups and the vast majority of the time the home exercises help relieve the pain. Imelda is a McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy clinician. I am grateful for her proficiency in this method because it definitely helps my spine conditions. I recently started physical therapy again. The orthopedic specialist I see told me to work with Imelda again for my spine, lower back pain and nerve pain. PT is helping me quite a bit. I was given new exercises to add to my home routine that are helping me improve and strengthen. From the time I walk through the front door to when I leave, I do not feel rushed. I was under the care of Imelda at PhysioPartners for ~6 months. I went in due to ongoing back pain from a herniated disc, and she was the first PT that I felt genuinely listened to my concerns and was fully committed to my recovery. She introduced me to a variety of new exercises/stretches/equipment that helped accelerate my recovery. I never felt like our appointments were rushed, and she always took time to answer my questions (oftentimes being willing to go over by a few minutes because I had so many of them!). I first came to PhysioPartners years ago for rehab after knee replacement surgery. I had never had such professional therapy with explanations of the procedures at every step. Also, all personnel at PhysioPartners were helpful and friendly. Of course I returned a few months ago when I had serious hip pain instead of anywhere else. Dharti Shah, my therapist this time, exceeded even my past expectations with a variety of treatments, techniques and exercises, all performed with extreme care and intelligent assessments at each stage of my recuperation. She always went beyond the care included in the appointment. For example: when I mentioned visiting a massage therapist, she wrote a most comprehensive explanation of which areas would be beneficial for the massage. When I was leaving for a vacation, she wrote out a series of exercises for the flight to mitigate discomfort. She offered myriad suggestions to improve my at-home exercises, with both online and paper diagrams. Each week she offered differentiated treatment between hip exercises, body work, measurements and assessments and full body treatments. She was always meticulous about form and best practices with each exercise. There is no doubt that her degree of DPT included training beyond typical PT. I cannot recommend Dharti more strongly than "exceeds expectations" on every level. read more

I struggled with pain from cervical stenosis for a few years and had limited relief from cervical epidural injections (and they only lasted 1-2 months). Jon Artus worked with me for six weeks. Do yourself a favor by getting superb therapy and support small business too! I went to the Lakeview location. IT is not as if I arrived at Physiopartners by chance. No, it was recommended to me by a valued professional. She knew I was seeking a business model with individual attention and not a hybrid of therapist and assistant. Further, I needed availability of times , accepting of insurance, a location with available parking and IF POSSIBLE a consistent therapist, oh AND SKILL! I am busy and was motivated to get the best mobility and strength possible. In recent months I had been losing mobility and had ongoing knee pain on activity. Navigating stairs up and down were a problem and I could not rise to stand without using hands. Rising from low chairs were a particular problem. I am 78 and have had osteoarthritis of knees for some 20 years. I have had varying qualities of Physical Therapy in that time. Nothing though has had the impact of the therapy I have received at Physiopartners. The rigor of treatment, the measurement of deficit and then progress was so encouraging. The elimination of pain and resumption of easy mobility, is priceless. The explanation of approach, giving me a perspective to view mobility and strength in view of my arthritis and the motivation to incorporate exercise into lifestyle has been very important. My astonishing therapist Dharti, had the confidence that she could make a 100% difference. She did not promise painless. I tore my ACL (complete tear) while skiing in March 2018. While at the skiing resort, I started working with a physical therapist who advised me to find another physical therapist as soon as I got back home to Chicago. She warned me to stay away from big chains, and to seek out smaller boutique firms because they would be offer a higher level of care and service. Before finding PhysioPartners, I visited Athletico and I realized how discourteous and difficult it was to work with them. Needless to say, I took the advise of the PT at the skiing resort, and found a better option... Upon the first 10 minutes of meeting Joe Ascher at PhysioPartners, I knew it would be a great fit! I started working with Joe in April, had surgery in May, and I was running/working out again by September/October. The speed at which I was able to heal exceeded my own expectations and those of my doctor. I'm incredibly happy with the care I received from Joe and I'll miss our training sessions. He was so much fun to work with, I almost (!) wish I had a reason to keep seeing him. Honestly the PT I had was way too aggressive and injured me. I have received physical therapy before and know it is not supposed to cause excruciating pain. The PT never checked in with me regarding pain and made uncomfortable/insensitive remarks. After 3 sessions I decided to be done and paid my balance via check. For months they had been telling me they didn't receive it, when I actually could see that they deposited my check months prior. After they threatened to send me to collections I finally snapped and called them and then suddenly they found my check... seems suspicious to me! Id go somewhere else if you're looking for PT *UPDATE* Immediately after posting my original 1 star review, the owner of the clinic called me and was very supportive and apologetic. I appreciate that this is a difficult time for small business and the call really felt like the owner cared and would go the extra mile for her clients. I truly hope my bad experience was a one off and that the majority of employees working day to day are a reflection of the owner and I was unlucky in dealing with a few untrained or detached staff members. read more

I came to Physio Partners because a massage therapist had suggested that the Schroth Method might be helpful for my ongoing back issues related to scoliosis. I've had back pain most of my life related to scoliosis and have seen several doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists, but nothing has helped. Before I went to Physio Partners, I did some research on the Schroth Method. I found that Stephanie Penny at Physio Partners is one of the few Schroth Method providers in Chicago. Since I'd never heard of this method and it's not widely practiced, I had little hope, but decided to give it a try. Stephanie and the Schroth Method have changed my life. I have no idea why the Schroth Method is not more popular here in the U.S. or why a doctor has never recommended it for me. Stephanie is amazing. She actually cares about her patients and works to solve your specific issues and tailor your therapy to you. My back is in a much better place and I understand what to do when I do have flare ups. I can't say enough good things about Stephanie and the Schroth Method. It's been a few weeks since I completed my physical therapy sessions with Joe and I'm still feeling continued improvement! I saw Joe for some shoulder pinching that was causing me pain and discomfort (I also happened to be pregnant). We worked together for a couple weeks with exercises that focused on improving my range of motion, breaking up those pesky muscle knots, and stretching some hard-to-reach areas. Joe was a wonderful PT and I can't say enough great things about him and the team at PhysioPartners. Joe was always professional and very knowledgable, especially considering that I was pregnant during our sessions. I learned newer techniques that I still use when I'm feeling mild tightness. Definitely the best PT I have been too. My friend recommended her Physical therapist. He name is Stephanie Penny. I met with her for my appointments, she did a extremely thorough exam of my back. I have some low back pain and SI joint issues. She assessed the angles of my spine, tested my lower extremities flexibility. I started some sessions with her and started feeling better. I had to switch therapists because of the holidays and now I am working with Katie Alberts. She is also amazing. They work together to help me out. The front desk is extremely helpful and clear about what is being charged to your account and what insurance will cover. They overall have well established team. I would refer any of my friends or family here in a heart beat. Both Katie and Stephanie have the intelligence and the compassion to help get you to better health. Also, I'd like to point out that they stay one on one with you for the entire hour. I have been to other places where they just make you do the exercises and start working on someone else. These places are just like physical therapy factories. They just run through as many patients as possible and its the worst. Physio partners IS THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE. They take the time to know you, ask you how you're feeling, what improved from last time, what helped, what didn't...etc. Definitely come here if you need physical therapy and ask for katie or steph. read more

I would highly recommend Ake at Physio Partners. My foot doctor at Rush gave me a list of suggested locations to rehab my foot, but I decided to try out Physio Partners because I did not want to drive downtown, parking was convenient, and the facility was energizing and clean. I am very lucky to have been paired up with Ake. He is very professional, engaging, SMART, and knows every little detail about the body and how to make excellent suggestions for correction. Every session was slightly different with always focusing on my foot and all areas related to it. He was always on time, always knowledgeable, and always eager to get me better. I'm pretty disappointed in this place and was rather hopeful. I was initially unable to get my prescription from my doctor by the date of my appointment because of holidays and such. I did not cancel my appt. because of the $100 cancellation policy and I realized the script had not been sent the same day as the appt. I was dissuaded from rescheduling and was told that I should still come in. Upon arrival I filled out the forms and waited. The person working the front desk left shortly after I'd arrived and before I finished my forms without giving me further instructions. No one explained to me prior to my appt. how PT was going to work, what charges I may incur or what was covered by my insurance. I waited for around 20-30 minutes after my appt. time to be seen. I was brought in and given the Musculoskeletal exam by the doctor. Afterward he tried to explain to me the billing but did not seem to completely understand it himself and assured me I would not be billed that day- we would speak about it later. I called and spoke with Paula to cancel my appointments days in advance because of conflicts, hoping to reschedule in the future. Minutes after I hung up I realized that I'd been charged $133 dollars with out my consent. I was not sent a bill nor was any claim finalized by my insurance. I was simply sent an invoice after the payment was taken out of my account. I have read all the FAQ's and gone over the forms that I signed prior to the exam and there is nothing stating you will be billed sight unseen. There is a clause saying that you will be billed directly to the card on file for late cancellation but that is all. Nothing about payment was explained to me prior to the appt. as I have stated there was no one at the desk while I waited. This is the only Doctors office that I have visited where they don't show you any any verification of insurance coverage, or wait until the claim has processed (I have checked my insurance claims and it has not), or alert you before they charge you. I only briefly interacted with the Dr. for an exam and everyone seemed nice. I was excited to begin treatment at Lakeshore until this happened. It feels untrustworthy, greedy and illegal. I am currently looking into settling this. read more

After struggling with plantar faciitis, hip and lower back pain for 5 years I was thankfully referred to PhysioPartners by my Dr. Over those 5 years I had been to several physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists in several different cities to no avail. I was resigned to my pain and limitations until my toddler's needs forced me to seek help once again. Needless to say I wasn't optimistic but after meeting her I knew this time would be different. Angela is professional, knowledgeable and engaged with the latest findings in the industry. She utilizes effective, creative and unique therapy modalities (e.g. ultrasound & graston technique) that most old school physical therapist just don't do. My treatment plan also had me work in conjunction with Jennifer Nelson, another amazing physical therapist at PhysioPartners. She treated tightness in my pelvic floor due to pregnancy and used dry needling to relieve lower back/hip pain in just a couple of months. My plantar fasciitis has decreased significantly allowing me to start running again which is something I never thought I would be able to do again. read more

Like everyone else, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Lakeshore Sports Physical Therapy and the care I received there. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! I have been in treatment for this shoulder/upper back issue before. My first physical therapist said I had a weak upper back and gave me some exercises. That helped some but a few months later I was in excruciating pain again so I decided to see a chiropractor. He was able to get rid of the pain but he did not provide me with a long term solution. Enter Angela, my physical therapist. She is a genius (see #2) and I really feel like I now have the tools to prevent the injury from happening again. What sets LSPT apart? There are 2 things that really set this place apart from the corporate chains: 1. Hands-on: the therapist is with you the entire time. My other PT used to give me exercises and then leave me while she saw other patients. I felt like a number, not a priority. The is not the LSPT way; your therapist is with you the entire time and this undivided attention really sets them apart. I believe this time investment really improves outcomes. 2. Breadth and depth of their knowledge and services: Angela is a genius. Seriously. She may be the most knowledgeable healthcare provider in the city. She understands the human body and has a systematic approach. She is the first person who looked at my injury as more than just shoulder pain. In her evaluation she looked at my entire upper body and in doing so was able to identify the real source of the problem. My weak upper back was a symptom of a larger problem and in identifying the "larger problem" she was able to truly "fix" me. I am forever grateful for her care and the knowledge she imparted on me. It sounds cheesy but she made me a better, smarter person!! I am also a huge fan of Stephanie. She has helped my mother and father and I saw her for a dry needle session. I have never tried anything like it and it really helped my neck and shoulder stiffness. Skip the marketing gimmicks of the large chains and go to Lakeshore Sports Physical Therapy. I have extremely serious scoliosis. Three years ago my internist suggested I try Schroth method therapy which is a specific therapy for Scoliosis patients. I was always in pain, had two failed back surgeries and was so embarrassed about my curvature that I wanted to just hide. I thought I looked like a freak and I was in constant discomfort. Only my internist and Dr. Kosky suggested I try it. I went in with a pretty skeptical view of this type of physical therapy. I had had physical therapy in the past but had never tried Schroth Method which originated in Europe in the early 1900's. I read up on it and thought this isn't going to work! This is going to be too difficult!!!???? But I am now into my 6th week of working with Stephanie Penny at PhysioPartners and I can't believe this! My back pain is pretty much gone, my posture is not all stooped over I'm actually standing up pretty normal, very straight. I have had 2 friends during this COVID who live in my condo building tell me I'm standing up so much straighter what have I done? They didn't even know I was doing physical therapy. I have gone to chiropractors, acupuncturists and to no avail of any relief, just spent a lot of money. I actually went to Dr. Kosky to talk about a third surgery so kudos to Dr. Kosky and Gretchen his physicians assistant for telling me I should try this Schroth method. Stephanie is an amazing therapist. I haven't been the easiest patient and she always deals with my moods and my skepticism. I walk, sit and stand straighter. I look NORMAL. It's not only the Schroth method that will make a person better it's the physical therapist and I highly highly recommend having Stephanie Penny as your therapist. Now one last word of advice. You need to do all the exercises which really isn't a lot to maintain the improvements you make. You also need to incorporate the "sticks" Stephanie suggests as tools to keep your body use to being straighter. This is an absolutely savior to me PhysioPartners AND Stephanie Penny! read more

Going to Lakeshore Sports was one of the best decisions I've ever made. After nearly a decade of knee problems, two sprained ankles, stress fractures and a thrown out back, I went from working out every day to barely being able to climb the stairs. Three months of physical therapy with Blaire, and I'm already starting a running regimen! LSPT is outstanding! I have been somewhat injury prone over the past several years and as a result have had to do more than my fair share of physical Theapy. I first came to LSPT about a year and a half ago for treatment of a lingering/reoccurring elbow injury. Under Angela's care the elbow completely healed. Also why Angela was evaluating me, she noticed a problem with my should that I had mistakenly believed had healed. At her suggestion I saw an orthopaedic surgeon who diagnosed a torn labrum. This time around I have been working with Stephanie and again, I am very impressed with the results. The shoulder is healing quite well. LSPT is by far the the best place for physical therapy I have ever been. Everyone is very profession, they tailor your theapy for your needs and my results with LSPT are much better than any other therapists I have ever seen. Due to hypermobility of many of my joints, including my hips and back I was in significant pain when I first moved to Chicago. Joe Ascher was great in helping me get back to 'normal' again, addressing the symptoms, but also identifying the exercises that I needed to strengthen in order to maintain a longer term fix. Joseph Ascher is a very professional and thorough Doctor, and has provided excellent care! I received a complete evaluation on my first visit, and Joe developed an individual plan specific to helping me improve the strength/stability of my ankle. Mandy is my therapist at PhysioPartners. She is an experienced Physical Therapist, has excellent listening skills, and sets forth goals that are reasonable and challenging. I have a complex physical disability and over the last 10 years have had multiple treatment modalities, which included physical therapy from numerous providers. Prior to PhysioPartners I was in Shirley Ryans Clinic for a 1/2 day program, which included OT, PT and psychology. After completion my physician suggested PhysioPartners, and I must say that of all the PT I've received over the 10 plus years, Mandy has helped me become for functional than all of the other providers. I think the reason is that she doesn't suggest a boiler plate regimen. Mandy analyses the problem areas, and focuses on specific muscles groups and then sets forth a detailed PT program, making adjustments as needed in order to make the patient more functional. I went to the Lakeview location for PT on a post-Achilles-tendon surgery issue. It was my first time with Physiopartners. The therapist was knowledgeable, although the therapist/assistant in training was not attentive and didn't always follow the PT's instructions. The worst thing about using Physiopartners, however, was the billing. There were multiple errors in the amounts they show that insurance paid on claims, multiple errors in their statements re: what I owed, multiple errors in showing what I paid Physiopartners directly out of pocket, and multiple errors in how they submitted claims. It has taken more than 6 months, and many many calls and emails by me to both Physiopartners and Aetna to straighten all this out. I have had PT numerous times over the past 30 years or so, and I have NEVER had billing problems like these with any of the other PT providers. No matter how good their therapists are, it's not worth the time and trouble to deal with their billing issues every single month. They have some serious billing system problems. read more

I had shoulder surgery in August of 2018. I went to Physio Partners as it had been recommended to me by a friend. I began working with Katrina. She is the best! I loved my time with Katrina as she worked just with me not with several people at a time which was my experience at other PT places. Katrina is gentle and kind but straight forward and she knows how far to push you. She gently did not let me get away with not doing my homework. She really wanted to see me get the use of my shoulder back! Katrina was always prepared and used excellent use of my hour. I graduated from PT a lot sooner that I thought I would as everyone kept saying how long the recovery would be. We met twice a week for 7 months and then I was good to go. Dr. Erin Buenger has been a life changer for me. I came to PhysioPartners after having two consecutive surgeries on my hip, which I had managed to fix and rebreak in a nasty, freak injury over the course of several months. I arrived at PhysioPartners with a leg full of metal, unable to walk, and very unsettled by my lack of mobility. Erin knew exactly what to do to put me at ease, which was the first step to getting me back on track. As an initial matter, I came in on crutches and was very unsure of myself. Although I came to repair my body, my first experience was Erin repairing my mind and making me sure of myself again with simple yet very difficult exercises for me at the time. I was off crutches ASAP. We continued and coupled that base work with strength and balance training. She carefully noted each exercise and how I responded only to mix it up during my next appointment. I was now walking without a limp and riding a bike. These were seriously huge strides given that I was having trouble sitting/standing and walking stairs not that long ago. I also was so impressed by all the "out-of-appointment" work she would do to make our next session all the more challenging and productive. And it worked!!! I could see that I was making bigger and bigger gains week by week. I was actually running again. And once she was able to get me moving, each session became increasingly more challenging and more rewarding as a result. She also gave me a great home workout plan that I incorporated with the gym routine she encouraged me to start. It hasn't been easy , but I can honestly say that I am 200% better (and it has been fun; is that allowed in PT?). And I could not have done it with Erin. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Angela and her team of therapists are excellent! I had back surgery 8 years ago and originally went to Athletico. I was disappointed with my treatment because after one or two sessions, I was passed off to someone junior. I was not getting the help I needed. My pain Dr. referred me to Angelea and it was like night and day. She worked with me one-on-one and gave me the personalized care I needed . I continue to see Angela and her therapists for annual "check ups. " I have worked with Mandie, Jennifer, Stephanie and Imelda. All are HIGHLY experienced... and have helped me avoid another surgery.
