I've been a runner for almost 5 years now, and I've encountered my fair share of setbacks during that time. Perhaps once a year or so, one of my leg muscles or somewhere in my knee joint would flare up during training and slow my running nearly to a halt. The experience was always incredibly demoralizing. And perhaps more demoralizing was the fact that repeated bouts of physical therapy didn't seem to prevent the issue from occurring in the future. It always felt like something was missing, so I searched around for an expert that could help me piece it together. I sat down with Jason for my initial evaluation, prepared for another month long routine of stretching and glute strengthening exercises. But even within the first half hour of meeting me, Jason was already subverting my expectations. He effortlessly identified a lack of hip mobility and tight quads -- the ultimate "etiology" of the knee pain as he called it. He sent me off with some hip mobilization exercises, and when I came back soon after he offered to dry needle my quads. The difference these two changes made were night-and-day. The nightmare of another month of PT had vanished in an instant, and I was back to running nearly pain-free. And what's more so is that the results have lasted. I usually stick to reviews of restaurant and bars but need to rave about Core PT. If you are in need of any PT services, please run / walk / hobble (like I did several months ago) to see Jason at Core PT. I came in with a grade 3 sprain having torn 2 of 3 ligaments in my ankle. I had limited mobility as I'd been in a walking boot and was hesitant / scared to start PT. Jason was great from our very first meeting at my initial eval. He really listened, asked good questions and did a physical eval in order to gauge where I was in recovery. Based on what he heard, he also demonstrated on a skeleton what most likely happened to my ankle when I fell and explained what was and has been impacted (ligaments, cartilage, muscle etc). Jason is super knowledgeable and was able to explain what sensations I'd experience after certain exercises and stretches and, as we introduced more motion into my recovery, what warning signs to look out for if I push myself too much or too little. I've been going for about 10 weeks now and am surprised by how much progress I've made since I hobbled in. Each session is usually half ankle expertises and movement manipulation, some massage gun therapy (when he's feeling mean ) and ends with exercises (forewarning, you'll be surprised at what you think you're ready for and what you can do so trust the process!). Jason is super easy to talk to, always ready to answer questions and super supportive of my recovery goals. His wife, Nicole, does the billing and she's super great with questions around billing and insurance. I cannot recommend Jason and Core PT enough, come check him and his team out! read more

Jason is a miracle maker! I woke one day and I couldn't move my right leg. I had painful numbness, tingling, and sciatica. I had trouble walking, standing, and sitting. There were days I could only lie on the ground to find comfort. I went to two hospitals - northwestern and uchicago - and they couldn't figure out what's wrong with me. It felt similar to the herniated disk pain I had before. The best guess the doctors had was an inflamed nerve in my spine. I still couldn't walk very well but Jason asked me to come in. I came in and after my first session I could walk again normally again. After more sessions, he got me to a point where I could sit and stand. I've been to other PTs before but Jason's method is more holistic. My treatment included massaging the muscle, exercises during PT, and exercises at home. He wasn't like other PTs who just tell you to do exercises while looking at their phone mindlessly. He really checks your form and only count the reps that you actually do well (he doesn't count the ones I half assed and rightfully so!) I highly recommend Jason and don't hesitate to go. read more

I've always been hesitant about going to physical therapy because it always ended up costing me a lot of money and I never yielded any significant results. That changed when I came to Core PT. I came in with severe lower back pain and throughout the next 6 weeks I worked with Karli. She was so attentive, easy to get along with, and was able to solve my issue. I am recovering from a knee surgery and he took a lot of time to understand what areas I needed help with and made a very specialized plan for me to improve my strength. I was sent to PT by an orthopedic doctor. I worked with Caitlin K. on ankle mobility/hip strengthening and she also helped with some techniques to relieve plantar fasciitis pain. Caitlin was super helpful and also fun to work with! She is a great communicator--always listened to and addressed my concerns and explained the treatment plan in a way that I understood, but didn't feel like I was being talked down to. The location is very convenient and Jen at the front desk was super friendly and organized! In terms of results, I noticed a marked improvement in ankle mobility and also saw improvements in the other areas. Overall, a great experience! read more

Jason's assessment was as informative and interesting as it was helpful. He poked around and had me do a couple of movements, and after assessing my pain and movement, explained to me what he suspected was going on. They have photos and skeletons that he was able to use and point out where he thought I was having issues, which very much helped me visualize what I was needing to work on. I LOVE that. It was the first and only time I worked directly with him, as my treatment care was taken over by Kaitlin (who I understand to be at the Lincoln Park location now) and Nick. I had been having pain in my neck and shoulder for just over a year and after seeing a chiro for it first (and finding zero relief), I took to PT. This team is knowledgeable and fun to visit - I looked forward to every appointment I had with them. Nick and Kaitlin were a superpowered team when it came to figuring out the exercises and treatment I needed. I swear, Kaitlin has magic hands. She proposed the idea of dry needling at one of my appointments and I ended up doing a couple of dry needling sessions with her. I am absolutely sold on the fact that those appointments were the turning point for my relief, with the added exercises and strengthening I had to do. I woke up one morning and realized that I was able to turn my head both to the left and right without pain, which was something I hadn't experienced in over a year! I'm so happy that I picked this group to work with. Every person in this office (even the other patients) were nice, friendly, and easy to talk to. Beware though, the office can get VERY chilly in the evening hours once the heat goes off! It sounds so weird, but I almost look forward to my next ailment so that I can start working with these people again. Hands down will be back to work with them if I ever need to! read more

I came to Core Physical Therapy after visiting another PT place and feeling that my needs weren't met there. At that place, I didn't feel comforted (as I expressed worries over my injury) and I wasn't given treatment since I was told I'd be ok in 2 weeks (but I didn't feel ok, I was in pain). After that experience, I looked for a different PT place. I'm lucky to have found Karli Smith. From the moment I met her, I felt I was in good hands. She has a warm, caring, kind, compassionate, patient, and understanding demeanor, which is exactly what I needed to help soothe my anxiety over my injury and get me back to where I was before my injury. I appreciate the thorough exam that Karli performed on me. She patiently performed it and explained to me my injury and what the recovery time would look like (6-8 weeks). As she did, I saw her strong understanding of the body, which helped assure me that I was under good care. Once I started healing, Karli helped me realize I was getting better (when I couldn't believe that I was) and encouraged me to built up my PT exercises (when I thought I couldn't/shouldn't push things in fear of getting re-injured). Under her guidance and support, I was able to see that I was gaining my range of motion and I could get back to my old routine. She found a nice balance between encouraging me to step away from fear but not pushing me to a point of pain. I highly recommend Karli Smith. I just started going to Core but I felt I needed to give my review. After suffering from a wonky knee since at least September, it got so bad I asked my doctor for a PT referral. I originally went to athletico but felt I was not getting proper attention for my therapy. After talking with Jason, he had me come in the next day (thank you for not making me wait!) and we discussed my issues further. Jason LISTENED to what my concerns were with my knee and the fact that I felt I was getting subpar treatment elsewhere. He brought out a spine and a leg to show me what is happening with my body, gave me his assessment and plan of action. He said that he/they don't just want me to come in and do a bunch of exercises and send me on my way. He assured me that he would spend time with me for my treatment (and then exercises!) and then reassess me to see where we are at and that I am getting proper treatment. I am halfway through treatment and I feel like Core is really taking me seriously. Everyone is awesome. They ask you questions and make sure you are comfortable with each step of the way. They make sure you are doing your exercises correctly and never treat you like a number. I feel that I am being treated like I'm IMPORTANT and that my issues and concerns are important. Everyone seems to really care, they all have fabulous attitudes, and they take pride in getting you better. I enjoy seeing smiling and laughing faces when I am there. I am about to complete my post-microdiscestomy recovery this week at Core PT - Loop; and, before all, it is very important to mention that the entire staff at this practice has been top-notch. They're a rare combination of personable, knowledgeable, caring, and motivating. Notably, Jeff Bitter, the DPT I worked with, was absolutely amazing. Amazing is not an over-statement by any means. Jeff was empathetic to my unique circumstance of being a 22-year-old having to deal with chronic-pain-related-symptoms and with a recent spinal surgery. He made sure I was completely aware of the trajectory of my progress, what I should expect, and what my body expected of me to make sure I was maintaining the level of progress I've reached. He's made sure I stayed, and continue to stay, on track in regard to running and returning to normal activity levels. As others have stated when reviewing this practice, there are no miracles involved with being treated here; although, the quality of PTs and support staff is top-notch, the expectation is clear that you must work hard reach your recovery goals, and the support from the positive atmosphere and personable staff radiates and translates well to your recovery. read more

I truly cannot say enough great things about Nick Barin and Core PT! I started at Core PT in January 2018 after I injured my knee. I felt discouraged because I only had a few weeks to improve before a trip I had already planned. I met Nick for an evaluation and he genuinely listened to all of my concerns and helped me feel confident that I would continue to get better. In those first few weeks, Nick helped my knee become stronger and more mobile so that I could make it through my trip. After my trip, I continued to meet with Nick until I made a full recovery. I appreciated that he paid attention to other health issues I had at the time and tailored our PT sessions based on what I needed. At some point after my knee recovered I injured both of my shoulders. I had such an amazing first experience at Core PT I knew I would go back. At the initial evaluation Nick spent time asking me questions, listening to the issues, and figuring out what was wrong with my shoulders. His diagnosis was spot on which demonstrates just how knowledgeable he is. He also spent time explaining to me what was wrong and how we could improve it. After months of exercises, the graston, and some dry needling the pain in my shoulders is gone. At Core PT I think you get a more personalized experience than you do at other PT clinics. Getting to the root of your issue and fixing it is a priority. I also looked forward to and enjoyed my PT sessions because Nick and everyone else was so nice, caring, and fun to talk to. I started seeing Jason after no success treating 1+ year of chronic plantar fasciitis. His manipulation techniques did more for me in the span of two months that a year's worth of PT at my prior clinic ever did! After knee surgery I was required to go to at least 6 weeks of physical therapy. I'd never surgery of any kind or PT. I found this location based of proximity to my office and the great reviews sealed the deal. I completed my required sessions yesterday and couldn't be more pleased with my experience. Everyone I encountered in the office and treatment area were very nice. All the therapists seem great but I worked with Jeff Bitter (thearapist) and Xavier (exercise coach) each time. I was able to easily and conveniently manage my appointments online, though you can call or book in person. Jeff and Xavier were the perfect balance of being supportive and challenging. Always positive, they made me feel good about my progress. Jeff was very knowledgeable, patient and personable. He could answer all of my questions and make great suggestions specific to my needs and personal preferences for treatments, and life after PT. After I would work with Jeff, Xavier would coach me through the exercises. He was awesome, very patient and funny! As I would struggle to gain strenth or complete a new exercise, he would encourage me. I left every session feeling positive and like I made progress each time. I've been working with Jason and the staff for several months and it's been great. I acquired a trimalleolar fracture (badly broken ankle) in early September, followed by surgery and R&R. I started with Core in December and have been on the steady road to discovery since. It's been incredibly unremarkable, which is exactly what I wanted. No surprises, no setbacks. The online scheduling is handy. My schedule is often very tight and I almost always find a time to get in with just a couple days notice. I went here for my PT after a labrum repair and another shoulder surgery. I worked with Karli smith and she was very thorough. She explained all of the exercises and helped find substitutions when they weren't doable. A few months in and I was slacking a bit and she called me out and got me back on track. I ran the Boston Marathon in April and did something to something...but I wasn't sure what. I was really frustrated when it didn't go away after 1...then 2...then 3 weeks. One of my coaches recommended Nick at Core Physical Therapy. Everyone was really nice to work with, from my initial consultation appointment all the way to my 12 or so visits. They worked with my insurance to get me additional approved visits when my condition wasn't healing as much as we had hoped, which was super helpful. Everything was very personalized and I really felt like Nick listened to how I was feeling at each visit and would tailor things based on how I was feeling. I always find it interesting when companies get only five stars. Seems there is always room for improvement. I will attempt to point out those areas where they can improve. I went to Core Physical Therapy for a month for follow-up after a hip replacement. I saw a different therapist every week. All very good, they used notes to define the best course of care (some of which was pretty painful). The therapist see you for the first half hour and then you are guided through exercises by an assistant. It's a very busy office and it's hard to see the same therapist, I even requested continuity of care, but that does not seem to be the practice at Core. Facilities were okay, building is older and elevator can be an issue. There is one dressing/storage room that you often have to wait to use, wait can be 5+ minutes. Good company and great therapist, but there are the things they can improve. read more

I will say that I started off skeptical -- I have never gone to a PT before until a recent strain left me with numbness down my arm -- but today, I am walking out of his office with no more discomfort and with more strength. It is very clear that Jason is very proud and dedicated to his craft. From the first free evaluation, he was able to identify how a recent strain added stress to injuries never recovered and how they have limited my mobility for years now. After the evaluation, he spends a lot of time empowering and educating you about your body's physiology. Jason cares about the etiology of what brought you into his office, so he can get you back out and playing. I'm very grateful that I found Core before taking the advice of my primary care physician to go to urgent care to get things checked out (and presumably then get tossed into medical purgatory). Jeff is awesome! I came in with chronic knee issues (patella femoral syndrome/tendinosis) that had been bothering me for about two years, inhibiting my ability to play basketball, go running, or even comfortably cross the street quickly to beat the crosswalk timer. After about 8 weeks of consistent visits to Core, my knee is in a place where I can play ball without thinking twice about planting, cutting, or jumping (after a solid warm-up of course). Just to be clear, there were no miracles involved here. Jeff was clear from the beginning that getting to this point would take a lot of hard work both in and out of Core's gym. Thankfully, he was willing to work hard for me too, constantly coming up with new challenging exercises, modifying workouts on bad-knee days, and putting together at-home programs when I couldn't make it into the gym. Despite my knee likely being a lifelong issue, Jeff encouraged me to get to a point where I'd feel comfortable ending my PT sessions. He provided a comprehensive list of exercises I could incorporate into my existing gym routine that would keep my knee healthy and strong. I underwent bunion surgery early this year and my swelling wasn't going down as quickly as I hoped. My doctor prescribed PT and I looked online for a local alternative. I work in the loop and Core Physical Therapy is conveniently located to my office so I could scoot over there in the middle of the day or the way home. They are in a new spot which has ample space now. Jeff, who is extremely personable, gave me my initial assessment and was very efficient in setting a path to recovery. He listened to what my primary physical activities are (yoga, jogging, biking) and customized a program to get me there sooner versus later. Jeff believes in working with the natural mechanics of the body to best insure against any needed surgical intervention in the future. Between hands on massage therapy and targeted exercises, within 4 weeks I was able to start back to my routines. Jeff and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly to work with. Jason changed my life. A big statement, for sure, but a true one. I had been suffering from constant pain in my left hip and leg, and decided to finally get some physical therapy. My coworker referred me to Core, and from day 1 I knew I was in good hands with Jason. His professional, calm demeanor immediately puts you at ease, and his expertise with the human body gives you confidence in his treatment. After some weeks of therapy, I was pain-free for the first time in months, and the pain has remained under control for months following my therapy. A small miracle, in my opinion. For months I had been trying to self treat chronic back pain that would flair up from too much air travel and too much time at a desk. Caitlin took time to not only diagnose the source of the pain but also devise a detailed plan to strengthen my core. Key for me was a treatment plan that I could take on the road with me instead of solely relying on treatment at Core. I came to trust Caitlin and the staff as I immediately started to see results. Jason Kart was hugely helpful and informative when I injured my knee when running. I love being active, so going to Physical Therapy and taking a break from my normal exercise routine wasn't ideal. Going to Core Physical Therapy was a huge eye-opener. I learned a lot about how my body composition impacts how certain joints like my knee function. Jason was great at explaining not only how to correct the issue, but also what it was and what caused it in the first place. My visits with Jason included some sports massaging and a series of exercises. Jason equipped me with several exercises to do on my own, as well as referred me to a podiatrist to help my knee even more. I am proud that after a few short weeks, I am happily running again pain-free! Core Physical Therapy isn't just a "band aid" for your pain, it's a real solution. I was been dealing with back pain for most of my 20's. As I got into my 30's, I started to resign myself to the fact that I just had a bad back, and that was going to be something I'd have to deal with for the rest of my life. My chiropractor recommended Core PT to make sure I was exploring all options for possible treatment. I met with Jason on my first visit. After some Q&A and about 5 minutes of physical evaluation, Jason said, "You don't have a bad back. I understand what this is, and we're going to fix it." He then took the time to explain the mechanical problem that was driving my back pain, and we started working on it that day. I saw Jason a 1-2 times per week for a couple months, and made great progress. After taking a break for a few months, I aggravated my back playing golf and went back to Core PT. This time I ended up with Jeff, and over the course of a few weeks, had the same great experience. I'm writing this review now, about a year removed from my last treatment with Jeff. I've continued to work hard on my own, and am now doing much, much better. I can say with absolute confidence, that I would've never figured out how to deal with my back problems myself, without everything I learned from Jason and Jeff about the source of my problems, how to address, etc. I think this speaks volumes about Jason and Jeff's approach to treatment. They worked with me to figure out the problem, helped me understand how to fix it, pushed me really hard during treatment to get me back on the right track, and left me with the tools to continue making progress on my own. I was going for PT at Athletico, when after 2 months of therapy and I was not seeing any progress. I was also not impressed with the service at Athletico and I mentioned this to a friend of mine when she recommended Dr. Kart. I decided to give it a try. After a few sessions I was able to see more progress than the two months of therapy I previously had. I showed him the exercises I was previously given by the other office and he explained to me why they wouldn't work for the issue I was having. Not only does he explain what the exercise should do to the area, but he also supervised that I was doing the exercises correctly. At Athletico, there are many therapists and they show you once what you are to do and then they leave alone. Dr. Kart is very dedicated to the patient and dedicated professional who takes pride in seeing the progress of his patients. Jason Kart is incredibly knowledgeable and results-oriented. I initially found Core PT during a lead-up to a lumbar spinal fusion (L5/S1 ALIF) to help manage symptoms. Once surgery became unavoidable, I came back to Jason to manage the rehab process, and couldn't have been happier. Jason got me back to running, lifting, and living nearly pain-free within 8-9 months post-procedure. Had 6 sessions with Dr. Kart and he was able to clearly identify what a majority of my issues were. Just to be clear, 4 sessions in (about two weeks) things hadn't changed. On our 5th session - he made a simple suggestion (adding in an extra sole in one of my shoes) to test a hypothesis of his, and lo and behold, I started feeling much better - not 100%, but better than anyone else I had seen had done. I think I can speak to Dr. Kart's character - his ability to problem solve, and to know what he can and can't do. I get the sense that he is truly dedicated to fixing problems - even if it's not directly related to his own skill set (case in point - referring me to another podiatrist in house to get fitted for orthotics). We'll see if this fixes everything, but even if it doesn't, it's helped immensely already. read more

Five stars indeed! After developing a frustrating back injury about three months ago from who knows what (getting older, clumsiness, not really sure), the pain got to be enough where I knew something needed to be done. Wanting to avoid medication or any potential surgery like the plague, I decided to consult with a physical therapist and I am so glad I did! Amy at Core has been tremendously helpful in getting me back to feeling like myself again- it's also an added benefit that she is a runner herself, so she understood the immense amount of frustration and depression I'd been feeling having not been able to run.
