His favorite teacher there was Don Shea, who also is the Oakland Mills Head Soccer Coach. He has been a great influence there as a mentor and leader in the Oakland Mills community. This time it was to the point where my child was crying because she was afraid to go to school. The schools solution was to recommend her staying in the class for students creating problems rather than deal with the aggressors. They were going to try to come up with a plan to keep her safe for bathroom use and lunchtime. When we put in a request to transfer it was denied even though my daughter's safety was at risk. We had to pull her out of school for her safety. Those same students who were bullying her found her in the neighborhood of a friend and attacked her, two girls beating her up to the point she had a black eye, and the police had to be involved. Shame on a school and school system that doesn't provide for a child's safety!

Too many changes each year in personnel is not a good sign, and those whom stay are no longer effective and need to retire. Beware that we found out 3 years in that the school accepts a large amount of "problem" kids which puts a huge damper on other students trying to do their best because of disruptions. The school has locally been deemed a "jock" HS due to football and other sports always in the limelight, so not so much for academics. The tuition is overpriced, not all $$ that you must give the school is listed on website, you do not get your money's worth for the amount of nonsense that goes on with both the administrators, students and teachers. Tardiness in all areas from the majority of teachers is unacceptable and translates into lackluster behaviors in students. The principal is great and I am sure he tries his best with the skeleton crew he has to work with, but he needs to step up and hire professionals that stay at the school long-term, and also have talks with some staff and teachers to dress professionally and act like adults not a kids best friend or goofy buddy! Doubt you would see such behaviors from adults in schools striving for excellence but here a $20K a year HS you will. Casual and not professional at all. The face of PHS. Kids complain that it is very hot all year around in the classrooms. No air flow and old lockers, and classrooms. I surmise their heating bills are sky high and could be the major reason why the tuition prices are so high. Small class size for some classes is alright, but other times too many students crammed in a small classroom. Odd places for classes not healthy. The rate of teacher turnover is alarming. Not a good fit for students who want to learn in an environment fostering excellence. The school could be excellent if they hired excellent people and communicated very frequently with precision. The previous administration doomed the school by fostering a casual and laissez-faire approach to the manner that they ran the school for decades. The new uniforms are ugly as sin. The cafeteria food is trash because the "food" is made from the least expensive ingredients, therefore, taste and nutrition is nowhere to be found. If you can go elsewhere please do, otherwise you know the drill.

This school has reasons to be both fun and terrible. There are some things that make this school…read morefun but others make it the worst. The first reason I have which makes this school bad is that some teachers are VERY racist. Yes, I'm talking about you miss, (definitely targeted) like some of us actually want to learn but are treated unfairly. WDYM you won't let me sit with my friends just because I'm not the race you like. Some people have their IPADS out because "they forgot their computer" but you're gonna make copies for me when I don't have it... AND you're gonna write me up if you see my phone IN my pocket... My second reason is that the bathrooms are actually so dirty. WHY do the pad machines not work?? They are catching dust. OMG and the nurse? Before we actually got ice packs but now?? FROZEN.NAPKINS. HOW is a napkin gonna fix anything. My final reason is that the food is actually hazardous. We found food that was expired LAST year... Oh and the broccolis actually stink. The fruits smelt so bad because they were DEFINITELY not "fresh". But a few things are great, for example the activities that we did were pretty fun and some of the teachers were nice and made you feel welcomed in there classrooms. Sometimes I have to use the bathroom after a class and then I go to the bathroom just for it to be locked and then I have to go to another one and then I become late to class or almost late.
