A-1 Rental saved the day!…read more My daughter was scheduled to have her bat mitzvah in December. In Michigan. During a global pandemic. But this date had been scheduled for years, and changing it was not in the cards. Once the vaccines were available, including the ones for younger kids and boosters, we were cautiously optimistic about holding a smaller event indoors. Then the specter of Omicron raised its ugly head, and we reconsidered the wisdom and safety of pulling off such an event. With less than two weeks before the event, we decided to pivot and try to move it into a tent in our yard. In December. In Michigan. A-1 Rental was able to make it happen! Some other tent company told me they wouldn't even try to put up a tent in December. But A-1 sent a crew to my house to check out the property, assessed the largest tent they could pitch, and gave me a list of things to do before it could safely be installed. Namely that was to call Miss Dig and cut down a low hanging branch. The sales team was great and hooked me up with everything I needed, and maybe even things that I didn't need but I really wanted. They said one tent heater would be sufficient, but I wanted two. Plus I wanted a crap ton of extra propane tanks to run those bad boys. I have to say, tent heaters are magnificent! They kept us toasty in a tent that was well ventilated on a below freezing December afternoon. The day before our event, the setup team came within the scheduled window. Consulted with me about where everything should go, and got the heaters working. Actually, one wasn't working, but they sent another team to fetch a new one. The day of the event, one of the heaters still wasn't working, but a new crew came with a functional replacement. I don't think our guests even knew anything happened. We got to keep the tent for the whole weekend, which was rad. The propane supply held out. And the pickup crew took everything away as scheduled. No muss. No fuss. For those concerned about how everything worked out from a COVID perspective, we required everyone over five to be vaccinated, and provided rapid tests so everyone could check the morning of the event if they were contagious. We even sent some additional tests home with folks so they could retest before returning to their families. Everyone returned happy and healthy! And we could not have pulled this off without A-1. Thank you for the speedy turnaround and for working with this needy father on the verge of panic.

Unfortunately, my experience with this business owner and her workers was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. On the day the tent was delivered, I immediately noticed several problems. The tent had holes in it and was dirty, and three of the eight tables I ordered were broken. Additionally, the bar table included in my order was missing. The items that were delivered were left scattered across my lawn, and based on my conversation with the owner, I was under the impression that the setup would be handled by her team. When I called to clarify the situation, I was told that setup would cost an additional $240, which I understood to have been added to my order. As my family was at the property helping me prepare for the event, they were understandably frustrated by the condition of the tent and tables and contacted the owner to ask what was happening. According to my family, the owner hung up on them and then began texting me, stating that she had the right to cancel my order without a refund at her discretion because she felt she was being harassed. I had personally never spoken to her at that point. I was eventually able to speak with her directly. She explained that the replacement tables would not be delivered until later that evening and that the missing bar table would not arrive until the following day--which was the day of my event. I explained that I desperately needed to get everything set up because I was catering the event myself. She eventually came to the property with her husband. At that point, she explained that the tent that had been delivered was her discounted tent, which was not the tent I had originally ordered. This was extremely frustrating, especially considering the tent was dirty and had holes in it. The situation could have been handled very differently. If the correct tent had been delivered, the tables had been in usable condition, and the communication had been professional and respectful, this entire situation could likely have been resolved without the level of frustration that occurred. After the event, workers returned two days later to pick up the equipment. Their attitude was also unprofessional. One of the workers told me, "My boss told me she will never do business with you guys again." That comment was completely unnecessary and further demonstrated the lack of professionalism throughout this experience. I did receive a partial refund because of the condition of the tent, including the dirt and holes, and I appreciate that. However, the problems went far beyond the condition of the tent. The missing items, broken tables, confusion regarding setup, incorrect tent, and poor communication made an already stressful event significantly more difficult. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company, and I would not use their services again. A business can make mistakes, but how those mistakes are handled and how customers are treated afterward makes all the difference.

The owners have done an incredible job converting a farm field into a lavender farm. They have built a beam barn and planted row after row of lavender bushes. They offer a "date night" adventure with a table set under a very old tree and this humongous charcuterie board. We brought our own wine and enjoyed the sunset and dusk.
