This end of the trail is less crowded than the Eastside trail, it takes you more through the historic neighborhoods of Atlanta and you can see the history. It is a great walk a good amount of nice art pieces. read more

While off from work during the end of 2020, I decided to finally visit the Beltline Westside trail just to get outdoors and take in some fresh air. Grabbed my little one and my sisters for a nice afternoon out for a little exercise. I did a little research on the Beltline's website just so I knew exactly where to access the trail and decided to park at the Washington park tennis center on Lena street since this was a good point with plenty of parking. There's plenty of signage with distance marker, art, boards with different pieces of history on the Westview neighborhood, and I just love how open the trail is and not crowded...at...all. It's a perfect place to just get out for some fresh air, quiet time, and enjoy the scenery. The trail is pretty lengthy from beginning to end and I must say once I'm done, I'm ready for a good rest session. I really enjoy this trail and have been back a few times sense my initial visit. I'd definitely recommend this trail if you'd like to get out and about and get your steps in! read more

I work overnight, so when I got off I decided to keep up the momentum of working out. A friend and I decided to go downtown and walk the Beltline. We had a great walk, but by the time we made it back to our cars, our calves were burning LOL. I even got the chance to see a popular actor while walking. We also stopped by the skate park to watch a few skaters do tricks. I love seeing people out walking, running, riding bikes, and skating because it motivates me. read more

I love this trail! In contrast to the Eastside trail, it is much less crowded, but boasts some lively bars and restaurants in its path. There are also less streets to cross and thus, less stopping. There are murals, art, tunnels, and a few small hills, but nothing too difficult. Part of the trail is along the road on the sidewalk, but 85% of it is its own path. Its 3 mile path takes you through some of the most historic neighborhoods in the city, and you can see the social change that has taken place. I would suggest parking at Washington Park at the north end of the trail and riding south. The bars and restaurants are closer to the southern end so it will be in the middle of your ride if you do it that way. If you start at the south, they will be at the beginning and end of your ride. read more

I was reluctant to Yelp about the Westside Trail because I didn't want to increase it's popularity. If you've ever been to the Eastside Trail, you'll know what I mean. On a decent day you're almost shoulder to shoulder on the Eastside Trail. But the Westside Trail in my opinion, traverses through some of the most untapped, unknown and underrated parts of ATL. Have you ever been to Washington Park? What about Adair Park? No? How about Gordon White Park? Westview Cemetery? I could go on and on but I highly encourage checking out the beltine website or mapping the trail to see where you can venture off to. The trail has a few spurs. One of them takes you to Westview Cemetery. If you are photographer or someone who likes nice backdrops, Westview is the spot. If you've been to Oakland Cemetery, check Westview out. There are a myriad of entry points to the trail. If you are a MARTA patron, West End station (N-S line) is convenient and Ashby Station (E-W line) is also in close proximity. I typically enter near University Ave or Adair Park and travel northward to maximize the full route of the trail. there is plenty of street parking near most entry points and most of them are also ADA accessible for those that require it. As of this review, the Westside Beltine had few businesses on it's ledger, but as the weather improves and the secret gets out, I fully expect that dozens of retailers and entrepreneurs will seek opportunities on the course. Presently, there is a Monday Night Brewing Garage, an Urban Farm near Adair Park and a Kroger close to Cascade Ave. On Lee and White St. (where Monday Night Brewing is) there will more retail shops to open possible Summer or Fall 2018. read more

I was leaving a meeting near by a decided to take a jog to explore. At this time the beginning was at Pittsburgh Yards but the Beltline website was difficult to ready to figure this out. I started about a mile down at the BeltLine Market Place which consists of a cookie store, coffee shop and plant store. There's no dedicated parking here now but the was space to park by the owners of those businesses. They are building apartments near by so I'm sure this area will be up and running soon. The path is quiet and peaceful. Mostly flat but there are steps (ramp) and some little hills. In the 3 miles the only business are the breweries. There's beautiful art installations and murals along the way. there seems to be lights and emergency buttons. There are also lots of entrances from the street on the northern half. Part of the path is actually on the side walk. This is wear I at times I wasn't sure where the path continued or which way to go for sure. There are some directional signs and mile signs but there really needs to be maps. A lot of the path is secluded with brush and greener banked on each side. Parts we are right along backyards or the street. Due to this I would not be on this trail at night or in the late evening. Since there are no businesses make sure your phone is charged and you have water. There was a water station set up the day I went. Also there are underpasses. Hopefully the BeltLine can keep the brush back once the spring comes as well as the standing water under a few of the underpasses. Cant wait to watch it grow like the East side did. Best place to enter is either Pittsburgh Yards or the Breweries. read more

With almost nothing in common with the bustling Eastside Trail of the Beltline, the Westside Trail straddles some poor neighborhoods, most of them historic, and seems like an almost forgotten city project, though a worthy one crying out for attention. The top half, which goes through the West End has an exceptional civil rights exhibit of photographs of Atlanta through that whole era. This exhibit (currently in Dec., 2018), which hopefully remains, was the aspect of the trail I enjoyed most. That top half goes past a neat little church, has some nice graffiti art and is an enjoyable stroll or bike ride, while the bottom half really needs some inspiration. Part of it, which may not be completed, is a path going down a regular street. You can hear, but not see a goat in one of the residential neighborhoods, but that is the highlight of this section, which is a long and dreary walk. Below that (I walked the whole thing except the very bottom) is numerous warehouses, razor wire, some buildings that look abandoned and one underpass that is covered in art, but is also somewhat intimidating on a cold day. There are barely any businesses along the route, which isn't terribly important, no rental bikes that I noticed, and this trail, which I believe has been there for a year or so, is still a work in progress in need of more art and care. read more
