What a great place to go for a walk, run, bike ride, fishing or just sitting and relaxing. Great pond in the middle with all sorts of wildlife like turtles, cranes, deer and all sorts of other things. It's behind Emory and the President of tue university's home is in the park. Very. Pretty. Plenty of trials to explore - follow the creek all the way down Houston Mill and Hahn woods. In fact if you're driving Hahn woods is a good place to park as parking is not great anywhere around Lullwater. There is a deck that you can pay to park in at the Emory Clifton campus - that is the closest parking I believe. read more

We had a great hike this morning at Lullwater Park. Here's the best part: it's only 14 minutes from our house. The gate off Clifton Road is blocked for cars, so we parked at Hahn Park off Houston Mill and walked in. It has the added advantage that you walk by the ruins of the actual mill and by the suspension pedestrian bridge over South Peachtree Creek. Lullwater itself is beautiful. Very friendly fellow hikers. We made one circuit around the lake and headed back to where we started. Technically you are supposed to have an Emory University if card to hike, but apparently no one has ever been stopped by Emory security. And be careful on the trail from Houston Mill to Lullwater: there's loads of poison ivy on both sides of the trail. Late at night while you're sleeping poison ivy comes a creeping all around. Take a snack and water. Lullwater has no facilities. But it is super well maintained by Emory. read more

Pretty sweet park. I strolled down here with my sister, who's showing me around. I'm visiting Atlanta, so I'm not like a local or anything. First off, coming in there's an iron gate cutting through the paved asphalt road, with a sign that says "Private Entry only" -- don't remember the exact phrase. Suffice to say, I'd imagine they want to warn off traffic, but any *foot* traffic (ahem, pedestrians) are fair game here. As in, it's a free country, and it's perfectly allowed to go for a casual stroll around -- so no worries, brother. Cool views all around. Lot of light to deep- green vegetation, as is customary for all Georgia sights, as I've slowly come to learn. Saw a brotherhood or some forked trees, about human height, I'd say. A tree that seemed split in two, perhaps by the storm or such. A wide open grassy pasture, which is perfect to sit down and picnic at, maybe eat a sandwich or something for lunch. Wouldn't be a halfway bad idea. Oh, and I spotted a dear -- deer. Snapped my fingers because I'm a bit combatant for no good reason, and the deer's ears eventually perked up, and it glanced in my direction, a bit quizzically, tilting its head as if asking what the heck I was about. I just said aloud, "Hi!" and promptly waved in a genial rejoinder, and it promptly snorted (or maybe I heard it in my mind) and went back to feasting on the wondrous, glorious deep-green vegetation. Oh, well. Vegans, am I right? Anyways, strolled down a bit farther, came across a man-made waterfall. Didn't get too close, but I managed to snap some photos, as you can see. Eventually, on the right side of a road, we beheld a narrow metal bridge, which looked safe enough to cross. It was situated above a murky swamp, or maybe it was a lake. We crossed two at a time, even though I wondered if maybe one at once would've been a wiser choice. Turns off, there was enough wisdom to go around, as nothing too eventful transpired there. Ultimately, came upon a private residence, the Lullwater House -- named after the park, I'd hazard a guess. It said invited guests only, which was a bit of a bummer, and I'd assume dear Nosferatu would agree wholeheartedly with me. Anyways, we turned back or rather continued the loop to head to the path that returned to the entrance, but overall my experience is that this is a pretty nifty, out of the way and low-key park, with a sufficient amount of vegetation, trees, and wildlife if that's your sort of thing! Seems like a great and altogether unassuming location too. I'll definitely be back here, at least once more, maybe run it solo next time! After graduating from Emory, I really regretted not coming to this beautiful park more. Home to the President's mansion, I have only explored the edge of the park one time in my four years of undergrad here. We came here after a lunch nearby, and the day was just too beautiful not to linger outdoors. We entered through the Clairmont entrance, which is right next to the Clairmont campus. I remember I had tried to go for a jog through here one time when I lived on this campus, but didn't realize this connected to Lullwater Park; spoiler alert: it does! Parking is free on weekends at the parking deck on Clairmont Campus - park at the upper deck (not visitor's) for a closer access to the park entrance outside the shuttle traffic gate. The park is beautiful, with beautiful green lushness all around. It's every allergy sufferer's nightmare. However, the views are worth it! So get your butt outside while the weather is nice and before it gets too hot to lift a finger! read more

Lullwater is a pleasant place to stroll around a small lake or through the trees on well manicured trails. If I was an Emory student or worker, I'd be here a lot. As it is, I've come here maybe four or five times. People have mentioned parking. My solution is to use the small parking area at Hahn Woods and walk Yerkes trail to Lullwater. It's not long and won't provide any kind of workout, but it's sort of a hidden gem. read more

Absolutely gorgeous park that is kept squeaky clean! Absolute pain in the ass to access. You'd think one of the many people who recommended this park would have mentioned that there's not really any parking for the preserve itself. I had to spend a few minutes on Google looking for recommended places to park and got lucky with the last space at 1900 Skyvine (I think?) Then getting my barely walking 27lb kid and his tractor trailer sized jogger stroller up and down the access trail was misery to say the least. So if you're alone or with able bodied friends and bigger kids, this is amazing! If you'll have to bring a stroller or tote a toddler, I'd avoid at all costs. read more

I can't' say how much I love this place. The best place for running and relaxing. anytime I go there, I find a new trail. There is a lake in this park and you can run around the lake and breath the fresh air. If you are lucky, you might see some deers around you. There are always gooses around the lake. A very nice and scenic place for those who like shooting photos. It's also a nice place if you want to walk with your dog, however, the leash policy is enforced. There is also a stream inside the park. You'll also find a beautiful bridge which connects the trail to the back of VA hospital. So if you leave in front of VA hospital, you have access to the park and you do not need to use the front door. read more

Our favorite park in the Atlanta area. Has a gigantic green hill with soft grass and pretty trees perfect for a picnic. There's also a little sandy area with water and a "waterfall" as well as a big pond with a trail that goes around it. Great place to come and run. There are a few nice hammock spots. Great park with some great trails! Perfect if you live in the area and want to get outside for an hour or two. Well shaded, great paths and busy enough that you feel safe but not too crowded. Ideal. Try and park at Hahn Forest if you can. There is a tiny parking lot there. I was lucky and found a spot. Love Lullwater, a peaceful sanctuary that can be found just off hectic and nutso Clifton Road. Home to the current president of Emory University, this beautiful park is free and open to all, not just students and staffers. On a sunny and mild day, you can find Lullwater humming with runners, walkers, students chilling on the lawns, budding photographers, and families. Even on cloudy and chilly days, people are still taking advantage of the nature that can be found smackdab on campus. Ducks, geese, and herons are all residents of Candler Lake. Just watch out for goose poop on the paths! I even saw a small herd of deer in the woods once. The suspension bridge is fun to walk over if you want to feel like Indiana Jones. The loop around the president's house is paved, some other trails are not. The main entrance to Lullwater is on Clifton but there are a couple of secondary entrances as well. Parking can be a challenge, but most Emory decks are free on the weekends. read more

I can't sing Lullwater's praises loudly enough. It's the perfect place for walking or jogging- excellent paths (some paved, some sand, some dirt, some mulched, some gravel); a suspension bridge; a lake with geese, ducks, turtles, and a blue heron; open space for a frisbee game or a picnic; hills for running up or rolling down; an old water mill with Latin graffiti a la Dead Poet's Society; my list goes on and on... As for parking (if you don't live within walking distance to one of the park's several entrances), parking is free at the Clifton School after 6 on weekdays and anytime on weekends. The Clifton School is located at 1900 Starvine Way (the same road that runs through the Clairmont Campus- just take it to the top of the hill). I decided to head to Lullwater with a couple girlfriends to enjoy some sunny January weather and have a lovely lunch out in Emory. We researched a bit and saw that we might have the best luck parking in the visitor's parking at the VA and walking over. Well, we did just that and got super confused, and wound up walking Clairmont to the Emory campus on Clairmont, veering off to the right onto Dooley drive, and walking all the way to the back, and luckily finding a trailhead there, thanks to Google maps. We wound our way through the park, by the lake, by the old abandoned power mill, and then by the lake and onto Clifton. It is stunningly beautiful! From there, google maps took us through the Emory campus and down to Bad Dog Taqueria for a lovely lunch. On the way back, we went the opposite way we came, by the President's House and across the suspension bridge to get back to the VA. We definitely took the wrong path out as we wound up in what seemed to be a random parking garage on the VA campus. I'd recommend the full loop to exit back out through the Emory Clairmont campus and back over to the VA. We were there on the Monday MLK holiday and the park wasn't very crowded at all. There were families picnicking, dog walkers, duck feeders, bike riders, a fisherman, and even folks doing yoga. It was so peaceful; such an oasis in our city! I'm so very glad we came and got great exercise! There's a parking deck apparently at Starvine Way off Clairmont that might be worth trying next time! read more

Since I live within walking distance, I am thankful that there isn't parking nearby. Either way, you have to work for it as what a treat it is. As long as the life flight isn't coming to CHOA, you feel as if you have left the city. An Emory protected sanctuary full of trees, trails and birds. Dogs are welcome on leashes. There's a cool looking tower next to the waterfall that's filled with random graffiti. There's not many signs on the trail ways, so make sure you plan ahead of where you want to walk, especially if you're not a local. But it's not hard to get lost here. If you bring your dog, they must be on a leash, and if you ride your bike, I believe it's allowed only on certain trails. read more

I actually stumbled upon it when I walked a path right by Clairmont campus and it took me all the way around a few lakes and an awesome stream with a few waterfalls and old buildings and a bridge. Impression: I'm so glad that Emory has its own gardens. UGA has its own state botanical gardens and I'm glad Duke has its gardens too. Lullwater doesn't have those nice manicured gardens or displays, but it's a lovely piece of land that has a nice pavement winding around its signature creek, good tree cover for nature lovers and students in environemntal science, good nature exploration, a lovely President's House to build snowmen( oops) or take pictures of or even get cookies on Halloween, and a great hill to go sledding on snowy days by either borrowing DUC trays or sneaking your mattress outa your dorm. For the education people: I highly recommend yanking an Emory Prof or any prof really who's big on nature, conservation, or knows plants- it's always fun to do a plant walk through these woods and learn what is native and what is invasive. Privet is all over the woods, which is invasive for example. Emory is also home to the rare Starvine that has medicinal properties. There's also good blood root if you dig and will get your hands all red. There's good sorrel if you wanna pluck plants and try something sour. Nature here is great. I've seen 5 species of hawks before. Small snakes if you want to pick up. There's also all kinds of fish in the lakes. also if you like to go on a hike while learning, there are many unmarked trials that hikers can see from past hikers. For the scenic people: Lullwater is actually great for photos- your enjoyment, engagement, photo shoots etc. Fall scenes are exquisite here with the good warm Georgia weather but reds and oranges behind you. There's an awesome bridge that spans across the creek. That creek also has ruins that is both historical and probs a good place to have parties and do late night shenanigans but it's nice that people don't pollute/litter in this park if they do party Lake is also good for painting for those who love landscapes. The DUC has a beautiful lullwater painting right by the Mary Grey Theater. Recommend you take a look at it before they tear it down. For the animal lovers- can walk your dog or even just sit back and look at what there is to offer. For the shortcutters- you can take this scenic route from the back of Woodruff dorms to Clairmont campus. I personally don't like walking through the woods in the dark, but if you've got friends, it's a nice stroll! read more

Lullwater Park is a beautiful nature preserve located on Emory's campus. The preserve has many luscious rolling hills, creeks, a pond and a beautiful waterfall that takes about ten minutes to walk to from the entrance. The preserve is always very peaceful and well maintained. And sometimes you'll even see deer walking through the park. read more

There are lots of trees so a good deal of the park is under shade. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there is not a nearby bathroom. It was definitely hard to locate this place at first it like a hidden sanctuary. It's a nice location to just go for a stroll. Wildlife runs free in this area me and my friend encounter some a deer with her doe. They was running around just having fun. Though Piedmont Park gets all the glitzy attention in Atlanta, a deserved centerpiece of greenery centrally located in the hustle and bustle, off to the side on Emory's campus, Lullwater Park plays Jan to Piedmont Park's Marcia. Such shouldn't be the case. Lullwater is more lovely, more temperate, an oasis of green that just happens to be located a stone's throw from the deadliest place on earth. (Hello, CDC!) Pick a lazy Sunday and park at the Emory's clinic's guest parking deck up the street and around the corner making a left. I'd tell you the exact street, but I seemingly navigate entirely by muscle memory. I seem to remember that it's the next street to your right driving away from Emory Village on Clifton. However, the good folks at the clinic leave the gate open and it's free to use. Walk back down Clifton, enter between two stone pillars and a gate that ominously declares "No vehicles!" and walk down the strip of asphalt. Before long, the asphalt bends to the left to reveal a well-manicured park of hills, grassy areas, and a large lake. The effect is like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. If you follow all the paths, you'll find a lazily-moving creek, a decaying old stone mill, beautiful and majestic, and Emory president's Tudor home. And dragons. Lots and lots of dragons. I may have lied about the dragons. Lullwater is an Emory standby though virtually unknown to even long time Atlanta residents. Do yourself a favor and spend a Spring day there. You can thank me later. read more

I went today (on a holiday), and it was lovely. Definitely a little oasis in the city, or technically in the suburbs... Emory really isn't "city city" if you know what I mean. PARKING: I scrolled through many reviews to try and figure out what I would do for parking. I first located the park's entrance, which for me was on the right, then I drove around to look for potential spaces. I finally just settled on the "visitor lot"/resident parking lot. The parking lot is at the George and Irene Woodruff Residential center... if you pass Lullwater Park main gate entrance on your right, the next street will be Gatewood Rd, turn right onto Gatewood Rd and there's a large parking lot on the right. The sign said visitor parking between 4pm - 6am. I parked there at 8am on a Monday that was also a holiday, stayed 2 hrs, and got no ticket so I'm assuming its free on weekends and holidays. It was a short nice walk to the entrance down Clifton. PARK & PATHS: I thought I looped around the entire park, but now that I'm home looking at the map I see that I really just did the President's circle... which is the main paved circle. I saw the mini waterfalls, saw the big lake and geese, saw lots of lovely greenery, came back around and crossed the suspension bridge... from there you can either go left or right, but it was a very lush dirt path and I was dressed to skimpy to risk bug bites. So I turned back around. Headed back towards the main gate, but veered left and starting taking an uphill dirt trail to somewhere... then decided to turn back around, lol. Oh and there was also a dirt trail near the lake. The paved section doesn't loop around the entire park, it basically loops around, well, the president's house, lol... To go to the other sections, its all dirt paths. If I had a big dog I would have likely went down some of them, but I didn't want my little fluff monster to get too dirty that's why I only went down them partially and held her when I did. I wish the other sections were paved... atleast the path around the lake. But even with just going around the President's circle, and partially down 2 paths, then turning around I did 7000 steps, which is only 3000 away from the daily recommended 10000. SIGHTS: As mentioned above, I saw the mini waterfalls-- very pretty. The lake-- too much geese poop everywhere though. The suspension bridge is cool, and shaky, my dog handled it like a pro though. There's a great section with beautiful trees and plush green grass that would be awesome for a picnic and pictures. The president's mansion is lovely, although it was clearly being renovated because of the scaffolding around, so much of it in fact that it made it not worth taking a photo. I wish I would have seen the old watermill tower... it's clearly off of one of the dirt paths, I don't know which one... there are several. PEOPLE: As everyone stated it's not too busy there, probably because it is kinda hidden, and the parking. The parking is a big reason, but not reason enough for low weekend and after work attendance. I think the lack of paved paths comes into play as well. There were many joggers, walkers, people with their dogs, folks with their babies, etc. Dogs must be on leash (posted everywhere) and you can only bike on the presidents trail. SUMMARY: Pretty, serene, hidden park. Only about 15 minutes from Midtown in no traffic, so I'll be back. The only thing it has over Piedmont are the waterfalls really... and the suspension bridge is cool, but idk how a suspension bridge would fair in the busy busy Piedmont Park. Piedmont is continuously adding on, so maybe we'll be getting a waterfall soon too, lol. Oh and I will say its more peaceful than Piedmont depending on what day/time you go to Piedmont... but any way you look at it Lullwater is definitely an awesome place! TIPS: They don't have any dog poop bags, so if you bring your pooch be sure to bring a few bags even if all you have are plastic bags from the grocery store. read more

This is for me one of the nicest and definitely most convenient parks in Atlanta. It's beautifully wooded but with nice water spots and greens. You can walk-run-hike as many as 6 miles without ever repeating your path. If you don't live close enough to walk or bike into the park, a downside is parking. More on getting around that later. Lullwater is a 185 acre park owned by Emory and is home to its president's residence. There's a paved loop road of about 1/1/2 miles on which cars are generally not allowed. Add to that many trails that crisscross and loop the park and you have not only distance but also variety for your outing. There are several large greens that are perfect for picnicking or frisbee. In the center is Candler Lake. There, you'll see geese, ducks and heron. Other wildlife is often spotted, like foxes and rabbits. I even saw a doe and fawn along the edge last week. You'd never want to swim here but your dogs sure will! They'll also enjoy the creek on the northern boundary. In recent years more trails have been cut as well as a suspension bridge added over Peachtree Creek. These will allow you to connect with Hahn Woods, the back side of Mason Mill Park via East Campus and Clairmont Road and, via Houston Mill and Mason Mill Roads; W.D Thompson Park. There is also a trail network over the suspension bridge that connects to the VA hospital and (somehow) the neighborhoods off Mason Mill. The park is well used but never crowded. This is partially due to the limited parking available. If you must drive there, here are a few unofficial ideas for parking nearby: On the weekends, the east campus garage is usually open. Reach it from Clairmont Road. From there you can walk down the bus path through the east gates into the park. You can enter the park indirectly from Houston Mill Road at Hahn Woods. Park there (allowed w/o an Emory permit) and cross Houston Mill on the path under the bridge. It's about a 1/.2 mile walk into the park along Peachtree Creek. This is your best bet during the week. On the weekends you can park without problems in front of Druid Hills High School on Haygood Rd. near N. Decatur Road. From behind the dorms next door, you can walk into the park on the bus path or just follow Haygood to the light at Clifton, turn right over the bridge and the main gate into the park will be right in front of you. Do be careful about where you park--Emory will ticket you. Also be careful about where you let you dogs off leash. In the main areas of the park you're very likely to get ticketed; the "backcountry" or more remote areas are safer bets. Emory police patrol regularly-which is a plus, and there are relatively few incidents there. Still, there have been some, so it's worth taking your dog or at least avoiding the most remote areas if you're alone. read more

I just plucked SEVEN gray hairs from atop my head. SEVEN. While this certainly signals a need to get back in a hairstylist's chair, it also reminds me to get back to Lullwater Park. Despite being smack dab in the middle of the city, this place is a total retreat. You can't hear the cars buzzing down Clairmont over the quiet sounds of leaves rustling in the trees. It's hard to think about crazy work insanity when you're miles away from your laptop with old water mills to explore. A shaky, swinging bridge awaits, daring you to throw caution to the wind and run across without ever looking down: perfect for kids and kids and heart... not so good for skiddish dogs. Bring friends to keep you company, or come alone and immerse yourself in solitude. Who needs Xanax when you've got this? read more

Probably my favorite green spot in Atlanta. So quiet, clean and beautiful. It's a great place to run -- the paths are pretty well-cleared, and the area is more or less flat with some modest hills to add interest. There's plenty of pretty nature to look at along the way, and the air smells so clean from all the trees. You can easily get in a 3-5 mile loop and probably more if you go over old ground. It's a great place for strolls too, of course. There are little waterfalls, rope suspension bridges, and plenty of other things to see and discover ... including Emory President J-Wags' beautiful mansion in the heart of Lullwater. The park also has a sizable man-made lake where people go fishing and tons of open fields where students throw frisbees around. Beautiful place for picnicking too. It feels pretty safe in this park, because there are always other people around and campus security is nearby. I usually park in the Emory guest parking spaces in the lot at Zaya, the restaurant near the corner of Eagle Row/Haygood & Clifton. You can also park at the Michaels Street garage (on the corner of Clifton & Houston), but you'll have to pay. read more

Let's say you're thinking of going to the mental health center on Clifton when you see it, or, rather you HEAR it: the blanketed silence that only mature trees, water, and green grass can create. It's Lullwater. And boy does it lull. You enter. You look behind you. Yep, it's all still there: the blaring sirens, the cackling of undergrads, the whizzing traffic. You look ahead. And the other world you thought you'd imagined still exists. You look down for a fault line explaining how two worlds so different could exist in one space at the exact same time. I was looking for a great spot in Atlanta to take pictures, was not necessarily looking for anything nature related, but website after website, reviewers couldn't stop talking about Lullwater Park After going back and fourth for a few minutes, I decided this would be the spot. I will tell you this, Lullwater Park is by far the best park in Atlanta. Piedmont is great, Grant Park is great but Lullwater is just amazing. Admittedly, it can be a bit hard to find, as it sits off slightly next to some railroad tracks. The park itself can barely be seen from the street. But once you enter the park immediately you will be blow away by the numerous nature paths, that take you in all directions. You continue to walk and a wide open field exposes itself, where you can have a picnic or simply meditate if you want. Continue to walk and a beautiful lake appears with all type of of wide life. The most special feature about this park is the suspension bridge, that connects you to another side of the park with even more lush nature trails. What surprised me the most, is that the park is in the middle of Atlanta technically on a college campus, but once you enter the park you forget about all of that. I had an amazing experience here. Awesome hidden gem in the middle of the city. If you didn't know this place existed, you would probably totally miss it. The main entrance is right on Clifton Road across from the Emory medical school/ health science library. There is practically no parking except on the Emory campus so very few people frequent this park making it the perfect place to go for a nice walk/run. It's also a great place for pictures especially in the morning around 9 or 10am when the sunlight pours in through the trees creating really pretty beams of sunlight on the unpaved trails. Highlights of the park are Candler lake where you can go fishing or see the ducks/geese/swans, the president's house, and the pedestrian suspension bridge over the creek near the mini waterfall. read more

In a Galaxy Far Far Away. You will find Lullwater Park. What a great place to take your hyper active white boxer puppy. I was there for three hours and only saw one other dog, mine felt like the king of the jungle. No complaints at all, but for 5 stars they need a street cart selling tacos or a Shake Shack--- I know this would only ruin the peaceful park but it would be the food find of all food finds in Atlanta. Go, take a hammock, a Frisbee, a joint, and a personal four legged friend. Just bring your own poop bags so that you don't piss off the geese. Pictures will be coming. We took our engagement photos here and they turned out perfect! :) The park itself is very peaceful with tons of streams, waterfalls, bridges, etc. I would highly recommend going on Sundays as visitor parking is free and it's an easy walk to the park. Love it! read more
