I contracted with Sawhorse in 2012 to replace my entire HVAC system, encapsulate/seal my…read morebasement/crawlspace, install a new hot water heater, waterproof and install a proper drainage system at the back of my house, and provide some miscellaneous electrical, drywall, and flooring work. 1. The HVAC and basement encapsulation work was subcontracted to Vis Viva Energy Services, who then hired two additional subcontractors to perform the bulk of the HVAC work. Communications between the Sawhorse VP/Project Manager, Justin McAusland, and Vis Viva was poor. On the first day of the project, Vis Viva began to re-use existing ductwork during the installation. Working from home, I caught the mistake and the NEW ductwork that was contracted for was installed. 7 years later, I found out that the condensate drain pan for the attic heat pump installed by Vis Viva was too small, resulting in damage to the living room ceiling below when the system leaked. 2. Howard, responsible for the ductwork/HVAC sealing (this was a newer service that Sawhorse was offering) did a good job overall, but made a simple mistake (improperly sealing the vents in each room during multiple HVAC leak tests) that resulted in continued testing, chasing "leaky" new ductwork, for several weeks, maybe a couple of months, beyond the initial time estimate. Vern eventually caught the mistake, and did a great job throughout the entire project. 3. I was quoted $2,775.60 for a hybrid, electric/heat pump hot water heater (materials sourced by Vis Viva, and installed by the plumbing sub-contractor) that ended up being significantly more than the same exact model I found at Lowes ($1,173.91 delivered with a 5-year extended warranty... that number doesn't include installation). I understand adding labor for the plumbing contractor and a 10% general contractor markup, but not the $1,600 additional that I was quoted/almost charged. Justin did return the materials that Vis Viva ordered, and ended up purchasing the hot water heater on my behalf at Lowes for the lower cost. Again... I'd expect my general contractor to provide competitive pricing the first time, without me having to check. 3. Justin appeared to be taxed, managing multiple projects. One day, he dropped off a sealant to be used in the waterproofing/drainage system at the back of the house that was clearly marked, "do NOT use under grade." When I brought this up, he was confrontational, condescending, and argumentative. Matt was brought in to help resolve the situation, and we ended up using proper materials for the task that I found with the help of a local distributor... again, work/management that I should not have had to do. 4. Matt, after I signed the contract, was largely absent from the day-to-day management activities of the project. IMO, for the premium that Matt/Sawhorse was charging, I should not have had to stay on top of Justin and Vis Viva the way I did, and the quality of the project management and technical competence should have been much higher. 5. The electrical, plumbing, drywall, and flooring subcontractors were great.

They use a landscaping company that I noticed used their blowers to blow all their leaves off of their property onto our neighborhood property. My husband went to their door and mentioned it to them. The young woman there shut the door on my husband after he addressed the issue. She did not care whatsoever about it. Who would want to use a company like that that has employees who are rude and disrespectful? The Scriptures have been fulfilled 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Thus, it was of most crucial that we chose someone very trust worthy with our huge life time investment. It was a long process because it required knocking down everything I had and building everything from scratch. Because my project was large, I actually got quotes from many GCs around my area but I went with redemption in big part because of their prices. They were not the cheapest nor were they the most expensive either. But everytime my husband and I would specifically calculate a price for anything and ask them about their price, they would be right along the line range of what we we had calculated to be a respectful price. That always led me to think that they are very professional as well because obviously they are in business to make a profit but also to be fair to their customers. That was very important to me to be able to work with a company that thinks about their customers, their workers and their bottom line all at the same-time. I also felt that their payment terms aligned with ok materials are purchased they are at your house, first payment is due this day etc meaning they ask for payment when you can see where your funds are going and that allowed me to built trust throughout which is key for us when doing large projects. I also learned a lot from this project that is important to give your opinion often during the whole process. For example, I wanted my doors installed one way and once some of it was built, I realized that I need to tell the workers hey wait a minute, I actually think it looks better this way, lets change this or that before we go further. Communication is key when someone is working at your house for months, you cant just sit there and expect everyone to read your mind and ask to change things once is all finished. I felt I was able to communicate with everyone well and the workers knew very well exactly what we liked or didn't like all the time because we were always following the process. Each day that the workers finished their day, my husband and I will review how things looked and ask ourselves is this how we imagined it in our dreams? We were well aware that things may look different once installed or built but wanted to make sure that we catch anything we could potentionally not like later within a reasonable time to make adjustments. They were always very accomodating to us ofcourse within resonable expectations and within budget. I also felt that there were many times we would ask for things that were not initially quoted and they would right away tell us the change in price before it was done and I appreciated that as well. My deck and fence were done in a very reasonable time, yes we did have some delays but they were outside both of our control. You cant go into a project thinking is going to be quick, everything takes times and a lot of patience is required in construction projects this large and we knew this very well from the begining. I really enjoyed working with this company as communicaton with workers and project managers was smooth and I felt that our opinions mattered. I would love to work with them again in future projects to keep building a home that our children can enjoy for generations to come !

So, then I say, so you don't paint cabinets? She responds, yes...well, we don't really like to advertise cabinet painting, but we do make an exception...if the cabinets are new. Well, okay. We had DB Atlanta remodel our master bath, a $50K plus job. At first it went great. Appearance wise…read morethey did a very good job. The remodel included a heated floor system, that all documentation said was to be connected to 120 volt circuit. Unfortunately, their electrical team installed it on a 220 volt circuit. We didn't find this out until a few years later when the thermostat failed, and a manufacturers rep diagnosed the problem. Fortunately only the thermostat failed although according to the manufacturer the floor elements could have also failed do to the over voltage situation. When DB Atlanta was first notified they indicated they would be willing to work with us to correct the problem, but eventually refused to return our phone calls, refused to answer a complaint filed with the BBB, and refused to respond to a letter from our attorney. We have more projects in future but would never again use DB Atlanta, nor could we recommend them.
