My son has been taking lessons here for almost a year and absolutely loves it. Casey is so encouraging and inspiring, he has my son absolutely hooked on guitar and my husband and I couldn't be happier about our son's enthusiastic response and dedication to his newfound passion. I love this place! Stumbled across it online while searching for someone to repair a vintage snare drum I'd won on ebay. Mike took great care of my drum within a very reasonable amount of time and for a very reasonable price. I really like the fact that he's the one who does the repair....he didn't have to "send it off" to God knows where, which , of course, always costs the customer more money in the end. Check out this groovy store if you get a chance. I wouldn't trust my instrument to anyone else! And if you happen to go around meal-time, Mike's probably on the front side walk grilllin' some awesome eats! read more

Repair review for my custom Robert Smith Cure / Ultracure Schecter diamond series with dual humbuckers and single coil splitting push/pull knobs: Due to a careless accident my beloved Cure Schecter guitar fell over a couple of months ago and a huge chunk was chipped away from the mahogany wood in the top corner (see picture - I can assure you that the chip looked bigger/deeper in person than the picture suggests!). I decided to take it to the guys at Atlanta Musician's Exchange and the experience couldn't have been better. They gave me very reasonable quotes and kept me in the loop the entire time, explaining to me what they were going to try and eventually succeed in. It looks PERFECT. They were being modest with me before I picked it up, honestly - no one would ever be able to see that such a tricky repair job was pulled off with my guitar. It looks amazing and Brian did an amazing job of documenting exactly what he did along the way given the tricky nature of the repair with the wood, angles, finish, etc. Mike and Brian were amazing and easy to communicate with the whole time , leaving me detailed updates. It was an extremely reasonable final bill and I couldn't be happier with the experience I had with both Brian and Mike at Atlanta Musician's Exchange. If you are looking for friendly, honest, and VERY skilled people to help with whatever your repair / trade / buying needs are, you need to give these guys a shot before looking elsewhere. My son attends St. Pius X and is in their fantastic guitar program. We were looking for a reputable establishment we could go to in the event we needed repairs or wanted to update our gear. We had heard about AME over the summer break and decided to drop in to check them out, and we're very glad we did. What other reviewers have posted with regards to AME's great service and great deals are absolutely true. Mike, the shop owner, is very approachable, friendly, and fair. Used to be a dedicated customer. Just can't take it any more. Mike has very little professional demeanor (which is fine up to a point...), as you can see in his response to the other 1-star review he received. If you can put up with Mike being rude, you'll find great deals. His drum repair work is mediocre at best, though. I ordered some custom drum wraps online and asked him to install them. He had some questions about the wraps, so I put him in touch with the online wrap guy. Mike wasted little time in insulting him, insisting he doesn't know what he's talking about (and now that guy won't talk to me). Once I got the wraps, they were installed, but had numerous bubbles and ripples. I've heard other drummers in town say the same kinds of things. I wanted to give Mike the benefit of the doubt, if only to support a local music store instead of the big box music stores. But time after time of unprofessional behavior has led me to this point. He throws a little concert/party in his store once a year. He asks bands to play for free, to help generate awareness about his store. I have played this show for free two years in a row, and was planning on playing a third. The band that I was bringing had to back out. Upon informing Mike of this unfortunate development, several of my musician colleagues and I were insulted. That was it. One too many instances of failing to keep his opinion to himself has brought me here. It'll take a miracle to get me back in the store. Best of luck, Mike! read more

I noticed that they seemed to have a lot of clarinets for sale on Craigslist which were non-descript. Anyway, I wanted to see if they had one in Eb and a professional Crampon. Instead of just responding with "No, we don't have one." I got an email from them telling me my email appears fishy. I would be very skeptical of anyone that gets overly nervous concerning a simple question concerning an instrument. My child has been playing for several years and is stretching out in the clarinet family. As a band parent of several years, I know there are several people that sell bum instruments. Woodwinds are especially sensitive. It is easy to pay for a lot for a clarinet that is better off as a lamp. I was hoping to find someone that was reputable with a collection of instruments to sell. Instead I got someone that thought asking for an Eb clarinet is "fishy". I am currently in the process of purchasing a professional Bb (more than likely Buffet R13) and an Eb. Glad this group showed their hand early before I had any dealings with them, because the clarinets I will be purchasing cost over $6k. Hate to pay purchase these clarinets new. However, it is too risky to buy from someone that freaks out over simple questions. read more

I have been to the shop twice, and Mike has been informative about the ukulele I recently purchased. I am a left handed string player, and needed the nut replaced on my instrument. He could have gouged me for the repair, but told me that all was needed was to restring the ukulele backwards and the nut on it will work fine without the strings slipping. He was right, and I have returned twice for strings and a pick. He gave me a discount on the picks, without, me having asked for one. I am new at playing my ukulele, but Mike will be the one to sell me a better one when my skills improve. Thanks again...I appreciate you treating me as if I am the best player on the planet. If he treats a novice like myself with respect, I can only imagine how he treats well established musicians. read more
