this store is a joke. They used to have a great selection of albums discounted. And now they limit them to purchase only 10 I went up with 300 records for $300 and the store was empty and they gave me crap about it even though they never had a sign or any policy posted. What does it matter who buys them and what and for what limit money is money. I have several friends who are musicians, and I would never recommend this store to anybody read more

Great local guitar and amp shop. The staff is super helpful. I like to stop by every once in a while to check out the used and consignment inventory. If you shop for deals on used or vintage gear you must stop in. On my last visit Ben made a crazy deal on a Mesa Boogie V 35 head and cabinet I inquired about. Bottom Line: An awesome guitar shop! "I'll take that call from this random guy from California!" said nobody in Georgia..... in the history of man kind, or at least the history of long distance phone calls. Let me back up a bit - I found a Taylor 614 that these guys were selling. The guitar looked perfect, the price was solid....and the site encouraged a phone call, so I did this weird thing and just called them like I was in 1986 all over again and that was the only way you could do it unless you wanted to mail a letter. A nice guy picked up and was helpful, friendly, professional. He played the guitar for a minute and said that it looked good. I asked if he could test the pickup as well so he got my number, hung up and went and tested out the pickup and called me back! I wasnt even someone from off the street, I was just some random person on the phone from the other coast - but these guys are actual pro's. I worked out the finances and called back with a credit card number and got the sale rolling. This is when I started to get nervous as they were sending a very expensive guitar UPS ground..... and lets face it, UPS ground could break an anvil in transit. So I was biting my fingernails for a week (mind you, I have wanted one of these since 2004 when I first played one.... and I was desperate for it to arrive as a complete guitar and not a stack of toothpicks). Sure enough it arrived when the tracking number said that it would (as I had received an email from Big House with all of the information from the transaction) and the box looked mostly un-mangled. The guitar was heavily packed with bubble wrap, the strings were even slacked as they knew it would probably fly (the altitude and compression - or lack of compression in the cargo hold- can damage the neck of a guitar if the strings are at tension). You see what I mean? These guys are Pro's. People not giving a crap would have tossed this in a box with some sawdust and sent it on its way for UPS to turn the rest of it into sawdust but these guys did it properly. I always say that effort shows and lack of effort shows like a sore thumb. There was a lot of effort here and I really appreciate that. Big House - thank you to Josh, Will and Russ for being real professionals! This is the Taylor that I have always wanted and from beginning to end, handled all of it beautifully. I am not easily impressed with the guitar store landscape where I'm from ( Portland Oregon) we don't have much honestly. I was in town for a convention recently and decided to stop in Big House Guitars and see what they were about. Wow! Just blown away by the people there and the atmosphere. Not a holier than thou attitude. Super chill and friendly. I looked at some pretty amazing specimens. And the associate , Lexus was nothing short of a superb in every way! Called around to a couple amp repair shops and was told it would be weeks until I got my amp back and possibly days before I would know what was wrong or how much repairs would cost. Took it to big house and Patrick was able to assess and fix the issue within 10 minutes! I have played music in Atlanta for 40 years. These guys are a wealth of information on everything ATL guitars. Recently I purchased a used Epiphone guitar for my son and brought it in for a buzzing fret. Alexis grabbed the Ax and spent 20 minutes with it. It now plays as nicely as my Gibson SG. Just saw the manager/owner go on a tirade about wanting to fire all of his staff for "not selling guitars," even though there were only two customers, including myself, in the store at the time. After he was done berating his employees, he went and fired one of them right in front of me. It also doesn't help that this place has a penchant for price-gouging and is lacking in sufficient marketing. This is where you go to buy a guitar if you're either a 50-something year old lawyer or executive that wants to collect every Strat or Les Paul on earth simply because you can, or if you're just up to the eyeballs in cash, NOT if you're a gigging musician. If you're a serious player that is looking to get the most bang for your buck, I'd look elsewhere. P.S. to the manager/owner that lost his cool earlier and took it out on the employees, you need therapy. read more

I don't like writing negative reviews and try to work it out in good faith before. I spent a LARGE sum of money on instruments at Big House Guitars and got burnt. Upon the inspection I requested, the $$$$$ vintage Les Paul turned out not to be true to representation (only 1 PAF pickup instead of two ... oops, sorry!). I still decided to trust them and worked out a deal including several trade ins. They simply didn't honor it: I received one guitar with cracks, they half-assedly tried to pin it on UPS before telling me it was like that when I tried it... Nice! They also never took my guitars agreed as trade-ins, leaving me on the hook for selling them... I called Russ the store owner many times, who ghosted me and I received lip service by email. VERY disappointed. It's a cool shop and the guys seem friendly. But sadly, I wouldn't buy anything ever again from them. BUYER BEWARE. read more

I am just learning how to play guitar on a Taylor my dad loaned me. I broke a string trying to tune it (oops!) so I googled to find a guitar shop that could help fix it close by and found Big House. My dad (who is experienced with guitar) was visiting today so he came with me. I'm SO glad we went here! The people there were so nice and extremely helpful. I walked out in minutes with a new string on the guitar, a guitar in tune, and a lot of knowledge I didn't have walking in. My dad was also very impressed by the quality and care they took with his guitar and the level of their knowledge. Will definitely be going back here for any guitar needs I have from now on! I can't stop bragging about this two story treasure in Decatur. This place has the best selection in what appears to be a climate controlled environment. Although the place is new, these collectible guitars don't have a speck of dust. The owner and staff take pride in the inventory. Now I don't see a need to frequent any big chain guitar shops with this in the neighborhood. There was not one item in there that was mediocre or sub par. They even have an artifact from Elvis' home. A cast iron door! Downstairs you will find more guitars and swanky leather couch to play guitar. In addition, a conveniently placed Luthier set up. Most important, the staff are kind and attentive. This review will be brief, since this place is very new and I've only visited once - but this is a LEGIT store, full of cool used gear (mostly Fenders and Gibsons) with a handful of amps and a small smattering of basses (yes, they could use more - but I'm a bassist). VERY nice folks working there, huge service area for guitar mods / repairs. Well organized selection of *actual* vintage guitars and some less so (1970s and above are NOT vintage - SORRY!) - but most are very cool. To say this place has "some nice guitars" would be the understatement of the year. They have a huge inventory, and it's mostly really nice high end stuff. That's not to say that they can't help you out if you are working with a bit of a budget. I've been playing acoustic my whole life, but have been really wanting to scratch that electric itch in my new band. Russ, the owner, cut me a great deal on a "Parts-caster" tele which, though it is of somewhat unknown origin, seems to be made up of some pretty high quality parts and especially some nice pick ups (I was trying them against other teles at the same volume and you had to turn the other guitars up to get the volume I was getting on the one I got). Anyway, I'm well on the way with my rock n' roll dreams, and well under budget for the guitar, gig bag, a pedal and a strap - all for under $700. Definitely check this place out. It's great (or dangerous) to have a nice store like this in the neighborhood! read more

came in on a boring mid-day Saturday, met the down stairs staff first, 2 guys in their 20s, both were extremely knowledgeable and were able to talk about everything from jazz to metal. I was shown around the high end room and given info on almost every guitar on the wall it was awesome, I consider myself to have a good grasp on vintage and man these guys were teaching me new stuff. I went upstairs to see some more fenders and met the owner, he was very welcoming and encouraged me to pick stuff up off the wall. I over heard the owner buying his staff lunch which just goes to show he appreciates them. The guitars themselves were immaculate, I had never seen so many cool guitars in one place, I couldn't put this old jaguar down. Also, the upstairs had every variation on fender vintage student guitar, which was cool to see. The highlight of my trip was when the owner got very excited to show us the new Rickenbackers they had because even though the shop was so Fender/Gibson heavy, him getting excited about a stranger brand just shows that hes a true guitar player and still gets excited over guitars, which was refreshing to see.
