I'm not used to that kind of honesty these days! He even gave me a few pointers on what materials I should use and suggested a few youtube videos. I literally went next door to the hardware store, picked up what I needed for under $5, went home and did it myself. All it took was a razor blade, some super glue, an ice-cold beer and I was done! While there, I noticed some really cool hoodies, surf boards galore (even some nicely priced used ones in the back), and a ton of dope skateboard kicks. I haven't said the words "dope" or "kicks" in quite a long time (especially in the same sentence) but having stepped foot in this pretty hip skate/surf shop definitely brings it out of you. Hang tight! Or is it hang-loose? Either way, this is definitely a rad shop right by the beach!

We got in and they told us they didn't do any wetsuit rentals and did not have ANY women's wetsuits available to sell. Planned our whole weekend around surfing this morning and our whole day was wasted. On top of that, they couldn't even refund us right away because it was done online. Horrible management and horrible experience, do not recommend at all.

Mike was very patient with me (I was in the store for over an hour being indecisive) and helped me pick out a cool pair of board shorts for my boyfriend. He even threw in a freebie! I highly recommend this spot and plan on hitting it up next weekend to get a head start on spring shopping. I wish they had a Maritme in the city!

I especially like the fact that they don't try to rush you or push anything onto you. They have a good selection of short boards, fish boards, fun shapes and long boards. They also have wet suits, apparel and even do rentals. You can also rent out a locker and walk right to the beach from the shop, which is only 2 short blocks away. So what am I looking for in a surf school / instructor? Obviously the coaching - I want someone who will be honest + tell me what I'm doing right / wrong. I want to know what I can do on land to improve my surfing. I want to get some seriously awesome tips on how to better my game. But I also want a cool human being to hang with for 1.5hrs. Someone who is personable, fun, engaging. And you get all of that with NYC Surfing. My friend (surf newbie) who joined us was super nervous + she was made to feel comfortable.
